Sig's Lagoon is what other music stores in town (Sound Exchange & Cactus Music notwithstanding) wish they could be. Thomas and crew are helpful, knowledgeable and extremely cool to boot. Besides local and unusual CD's, its got many releases on vinyl for those audiophiles and vinyl purists out there. Oh and any music store that is surrounded by bars and taquerias is A+ in my book! read more

OK, for some reason, I have neglected to review Sig's and Sound Exchange for a while. Both I have been a customer at for years. Though I never visited as much as say All Records or Vinyl Edge. It is a wonder why, for both places. Downstairs is packed full of mostly used, with a few bins for new vinyl. The Blues and Jazz selection is out of this world good. Not only volume wise, but for shear quality. Somethings are a bit more pricey than I would like, but most are reasonable. There is a $3 bin, plus the regular stuff. Which can range from $5-60. Though the pricey stuff, is, well, awesome. I picked up some Stanley Turrentine, and Ray Charles. They will get some pretty obscure Metal and Punk records as well. Upstairs, as was explained to me...was everything else. :) The person working the register was so happy to show me around and chat. It has been a while since my last visit, so he was more than happy to reorient me. If people think that record stores begin and end with Cactus in Houston, they are selling themselves short. This is an awesome, funky, quirky spot that is as good as any I have been to. read more

If you you are a TIKI junkie this is the place. He's got a full line of the most recent Tiki Farm Mugs. Sweet. Add in the great music collection, clothing, and other miscellaneous stuff that will make your co-workers stare in wonder as they try to figure out where in the hell did he find that? Sigs Lagoon is the place. A perfect place to take your in-laws when you're really trying to escape their constant complaining about how flat and hot Houston is. The store is bright and shiny and should keep them occupied long enough for you to get a moment of sanity in the record or tiki section before getting back into the car with the know-it-all who continues to inform you how flat Houston is and that it's very hot here. I digress. In short I like Sigs. It's great place to get me a birthday gift or confuse and bewilder the inlaws. read more

This is one of those record stores you could hang out in all day. I found a wide variety of music and art here. They have shirts, stickers, buttons and posters too. There are two stories of music heaven and the walls are covered in pictures. The guy running the place was very friendly, willing to answer questions and provide information about the local music shows in Houston. They have vinyl, CDs and tapes. read more

A nice little record store with a cool vibe and a decent selection. If they don't have what your looking for they'll order it for you too. The main guy, who I think is the owner, is very helpful and polite. For the most part their prices are fair. I wouldn't say they are great, but I understand a business has overhead expenses and whatnot, so even though I could probably find some of the records cheaper online I prefer to support these guys. For some items like limited edition LPs and signed records you will be hard pressed to find anywhere else. A small downside is parking. Finding a parking spot can be tricky. Sig's Lagoon is immaculately organized. The love that went into designing the layout of the bins alone is worth the trip to Sig's alone. It's a vinyl temple, really. Respect to the architect! If you have a thirst for vinyl, prepare to spend some time here. The selection is seemingly infinite! I went there looking for jazz which notably seems expensive off the bat but when I went in there all the jazz was marked up way higher than the regular prices they go for. One record I own that I got for a dollar at a yard sale and it's worth 16 dollars was 200 in there I swear to you. Another one I have that goes for 27-35 was 100 in there. If you want jazz don't go here unless you're ready to pay big markups for relatively common records. eBay is better than this. read more

Been to sigs lagoon about 10+ times but I unfortunately don't go there any more not because of the records or anything because if I'm honest they have several records and it's quite a nice vinyl store no doubt abt it only thing that I just hateeee abt it is the owner!!! I'm almost 100% sure he is the owner because every time I would go he would always be there and when I tell y'all this man is soooo rude and just not nice at all!!! His attitude is just soooo ugly and it's unfortunate because he has such a nice store but has a nasty attitude with customers. I'm Not the type of person to just stop going somewhere just because of somebody but it just rlly annoyed me when I would spend up to $100+ each time I would go for him to check me out with an attitude and stale face and I just no longer felt like giving this man my money when he can't even be nice to a regular paying customers don't recommend giving this man your money at all! read more

There are vintage records categorized by genre, witty posters/art, and more. The guy working the counter was very welcoming and was there to ask answer any questions we had. Love this place, and I think you will too. Sig's Lagoon is another Houston record store that has a really great ratio of new/used/classic albums including a bunch of funky old picture discs hanging from the downstairs ceiling. I haven't ever bought anything from the new section but I do remember the prices being pretty comparable to the others (and online). The upstairs is where I tend to get lost in the exciting ether of old-school records. I've found some seriously obscure stuff up there and some really funny/cool 80s/90s stuff too. One day I saw a pretty rare Cars pressing a few bins down from Mariah Carey - Glitter....and I think this sums up the quirky and enjoyable vibe at Sig's. I really enjoyed chatting up the guy at the register (maybe the owner?) about the records I was purchasing and just the act of writing this review is making me want to go back and check it out again. You never know what you'll find in this place and I'd definitely plan to spend a solid hour if you're a thorough person that has to flip through every record in the place. read more

Picture the best concert of the year in shelves of orderly fashion. Placed in Vinyls, Cassettes, and CDs. Welcome to Sig's Lagoon. A place for every music lover out there and the owner is pretty cool as well teaches violin. Its a colorful place with a two story storage of musical artist. The prices are reasonable. Worth the pay. Its a beautiful paradise when you enter. Though when I first went in it was a paradise for me since I was having a bad allergy attack all day. (Hope i didn't ruin my date. Lol) But I felt at home with artist I knew and love and artist that I had no clue who they were. If I could I would spend hours on end listening to music and changing and rewinding and pausing, and relaxing, and shifting to another genre. Every 10 minutes. Its a colorful, nostalgic wonderland for music lovers. A place to escape just for a good 45 minutes (because that's how long you will take in the store) also if you get hungry after checking these sounds. Just walk across the street to eat chicken and waffles at the breakfast klub! read more

I only had about half an hour in here one Saturday afternoon on my way home. I mainly looked through the used jazz selection. Positives: 1. Some really collectible records at reasonable prices, but I didn't see any must-buy deals either. An original pressing of Staney Turrentine w/ Three Sounds was priced at $100 (, which is very reasonable, while a copy of Coltrane's "New Thing at Newport" was somewhat more expensive than Popsike's recent sales prices. So, a mixed bag and if I knew them I would have tried to negotiate, but nothing to complain about and it is great to see some rare records out in the wild. 2. A ton of records for digging. Negatives: 1. No listening stations. This is fine if all of the records are in VG+ condition or better, but they sell some G+ or worse. For those it is useful to check just how bad the visual damage translates into audio. read more

Possibly the only spot in Houston where the tiki torch still shines on. Great selection of Tiki Farm mugs, some tiki-related books, exotica music, and related artwork. For the tikiphile traveler, this is the first place to stop while in Houston. Super friendly owner, whose recommendations of things to do in the area were all spot-on. Aside from the tiki memorabilia, there's a great selection of unique or hard-to-find items. The range of vinyl & CD's on offer was impressive. They also stock a large assortment of bobbleheads, some outrageously funny postcards, fabulous artwork & fridge magnets, and a nice collection of books for your swank pad. I found a Drop Trio CD, but I wish they had more of a selection of local music. It's nice that they also sell posters and art. The magnets they have are really cool and funny. So is the wall of bobble head dolls. If I could give this 3.5, I would. The only other thing I have is that the cashier didn't seem like he really wanted our business. read more

This is the most convenient record store place for me, since Black Dog Records moved. The only rub are the prices. They are often high for vinyl and covers in less than collectible condition. I had once found a record inside an album and it was the correct title but wrong release, so the vinyl and cover numbers did not match up. As for customer service, they are top notch. I have, on several occasions, called and they have been very quick about looking to see if they have a particular band or even particular album in stock. If not, they always check the rerelease section. I have never had an issue of them saving a record for me, it's always there, as they say. Sometimes other record stores (named for prickly plants) can't be bothered to physically check their used vinyl selection, but that's never the case here. They recently expanded the store downstairs and it looks great! Also they have a large assortment of Music related Pop Funko figures for sale as well. This is a top notch shop! read more

I have visited the place several times now since it's closed to where I work. The same guy was always behind the cashier and he is very friendly. He doesn't have a lot of knowledge about the vinyl but he is eager to help so I am good with that. If you are patient, you might be able to find some bargains. I love movie soundtrack and they have a huge selections. And baskets of $1 bargain. Some are actually quite good. Definitely will be my regular place to go vinyl hunting. read more

A++ store - large inventory with lots of great used (and new) variety. My personal highlight was the jazz/blues section (robust, strong selection, *very* reasonable prices). International section was as diverse and well-labeled. Spent 2.5 hours digging and came away with three LPs that were in great shaped and priced well below what they'd fetch online. Very courteous owner - even replaced an outer sleeve when the sticker left residue. My first HTX record experience, and I don't know if I'll ever look elsewhere when in town. read more

They sell music from artists that perform at both the Big Top and the Continental Club and some classic stuff, too, e.g. the Ramones, Al Green, but I saw some Putomayo CDs, and used stuff, too. They offer vinyl upstairs. But there's so much more! I'm always amazed when I walk into this store. It's almost as if the owner ( a great guy I might add ) and I are thinking telepathically. Bolivian psychedelic music from the 60's? Oh yeah, it's right there on the front rack! Peruvian rock? Again, on the front rack!African funk from the 60 and 70's? Again, on the front rack-you would have to be blind to miss it. Porno music from the seventies, on vinyl? I think you get the point. I really like his selection, from garage rock to Cajun stompers. His CD and vinyl selection is prime, all thriller and no filler. If you want the hit of the month club look elsewhere, because you will be sorely disappointed. But if you love gems and and digging through some great music, you've come to the right place. There are also some great silk screens, books, dvds, and other bizarro funky items here. This place gets brownie points for location, and being so darn cute! and the owner is soooo polite. However, their prices are exaggerated. You will find some of the same records, cheaper, at sound exchange. But if you just want to wander in and look at a lot of trinkets and neat memorabilia and browse some records, it's decent. I will admit it's fun to window shop in there, but it's always a little pricey in my opinion, which is a shame, cause it's right by my house and I want to love it so hard! read more
