A true classic in San Rafael. I was introduced to this ice cream shop by my boyfriend and we've been here several times since. Here I am finally writing a review. It's easy to find and it's located in a plaza so parking is easy. Service is always friendly and helpful. On this particular day I opted for a single scoop sundae (comes with whipped cream, hot fudge, almonds, sprinkles, & a maraschino cherry) which was the perfect amount for me. You can tell it's a town classic and favorite as the wall was lined with various pictures from way back as well as memorabilia, etc. I opted for the plain cone with what was initially 2 scoops: Lychee and Peach. As I was getting ready to pay, I spotted Matcha on the last case and of course, I had to get it. The combination of flavors went perfectly together. The ice cream was velvety and creamy but not overly sweet. You can taste each distinct flavor on its own. The ice cream is fantastic. I had pecan praline and butterscotch in a waffle cone. It was absolutely amazing. What was not amazing is I brought my service animal inside and they told me he had to have a vest that said he was a service animal. That is not required by federal law and the American disabilities act. When I told the person waiting on me this, he refused it and said it was their policy. I suppose they don't have to follow the policies of the ADA, but I've never seen a business that didn't have to before. I visited on May 24, 2026. The first thing I noticed was that there was only 1 table inside, which seated 2. When I was there before, there were at least a few larger tables. The second thing I noticed was the rudeness of the employees, start to finish. A girl about 25 and a guy about 19. The third thing I noticed was that, when I was in there a long while back, the shakes were in nice glasses, suited for shakes, malts and floats. But this time, they were in flimsy, very small paper cups. Basically, you were forced to take it to go. There was a lid, which would pop off when you tried lifting the cup. I dropped it twice, spilling it both times. I ordered a rootbeer float. Not terrible, but definitely the worst I've ever had. Low quality rootbeer and I could barely taste the vanilla ice cream. I ordered 3 pints of ice cream. These 4 items, by the way, were $50+. The Mint Chip was definitely the worst I've ever had. It tasted like medicine and mildly curdled milk. The chocolate chips themselves were also low-grade. The Chocolate Mousse ice cream was so-so, and had that same curdled milk taste. The chocolate/peanut butter ice cream was the best of the 4 items, but the "peanut butter" was merely (and literally) Mini Reece's Peanut Butter Cups. To say that this place has gone downhill in the past some-odd years, is a HUGE understatement (first visit was the late 70's and frequented it in the 80's and 90's). I was so glad to see that they were still around, but after that experience, I'm sorry to say, but they should think about closing shop. read more
