We saw this at the theater in Times Square so my review is only on the musical itself. I'll be reviewing the venue separately. If you have not seen this show & have the sense of humor for it, you don't know what you're missing. We sat in the fifth row in the vault seating so we got a decent view though I still had to move my head some to see the action onstage. I also got a free "Twinkie" when they threw them into the audience for a scene. The songs are hilarious, the writing is totally on point & the actors are awesome in it. I highly recommend this one if you have seen "The Silence of the Lambs," like irreverent humor, appreciate a good gay joke or just want a night out away from kid friendly things. The songs are worth the price of admission alone. I didn't get much opportunity to see the merchandizing after the show but my husband really wanted them to sell the soundtrack. I'm not going to spoil the show for you but make sure you don't take little children or the easily offended. The easily offended won't want to hear "If only I could smell her c..." & you might not want your kids singing it. Unless you want to give some uptight conservative family member a stroke, you may want to leave that person at home. Oh, and they also still let you bring drinks in for this as there is still no intermission. read more

I'd *bleep* me. I'd *bleep* me so hard! If hearing a line like that sung repeatedly would offend you, this is not the show for you. And that is one of the milder offerings! However, if you're as juvenile as I am, then this show is right up your alley. Much like a "Saturday Night Live" episode, there are some hits and misses with this show, but the vast majority of it is clever and funny. It helps to know the movie somewhat well so you can clue in on everything that is being parodied. The performers are great, especially the dancers. And as Hannibal Lecter, the guy who played Marcy's first husband on "Married With Children" is awesome. Also, I kind of have a bro-crush on the dude who played Jack Crawford. My favorite songs were the one about the senator's daughter trapped in the well and Lecter's opus, "If I could smell...." (I won't finish the title, although the song did go on a little too long). It's a small venue so most seats are good but if you sit closer you probably won't miss a few of the lines like I did. I will most likely go back and see this again. read more

It was an interesting evening. A mix of some very silly songs with some very uncomfortable songs. Some parts were entertaining but others had me squirming in my seat a bit wondering when the song was going to end. I didn't think I was the type that offended easily, I don't know, maybe I am a becoming a prude. It was very interesting none the less. Whoever did the casting did a terrific job. The characters were great. It would have been nicer if the ticket prices were a bit cheaper but I guess they were "New York" cheap. I did really dig how the theater is actually a re-purposed school. After having left one restaurant where a glass of beer was $9 - it was so nice to enter this old school NYC building (complete with lead paint covering up the brick) to see a bottle of (good) beer only $3. And you were encouraged to drink (I never went to a musical where you could actually bring an entire bottle of wine to your seat!), no less. And you know you're in for a good time when you're walking down the hall and see some other "upcoming show" posters for "Gandhi: The Musical... 'You'll be hungry for more!'" and "Schindler's: The Musical". The show? Spot-on. Way clever and done so well. Vulgar songs will be stuck in your head for days. I have even more respect now for serial killers that tuck. read more

Seriously the funniest spoof to hit Broadway in Years! Move over Book of Mormon, this irreverent play in the cozy off-Broadway Elektra Theater was spot on in so many ways. Clarise, Hannibal Lecter and Buffalo Bob were played to a T!! If you shut your eyes, you'd swear Foster, Hopkins and Levine were on stage (to top it off, Agent Starling and Dr. Lecter were played by the understudies!!). This is a must-see in a fun theater environment (a former crematorium) that is all decked out for Halloween. Warning: NOT KID OR PRUDE APPROPRIATE! Worth it, but don't pay full price (try goldstar, or google discount tickets). I rewatched the Silence of the Lambs before going, which helped with getting some of the jokes, but wasn't totally necessary. I must say, this was a very interesting experience. The first thing that you'll notice is that the venue is not built for a show like this. Unless you're occupying the first three rows don't expect to see any of the performers' legs throughout the show. Aside from that it was a decent show. I had a fun time watching. I happen to be a huge admirer of the original movie. Therefore, I was able to appreciate most of the jokes and mockeries here. FYI, expect your profanity jar to explode. You will encounter lots of, I mean LOTS of, cursing out loud, dirty sexual references and jokes. Don't go in there with a first date or religious fanatic friends; definitely not with parents no matter how "open-minded" you think they are. The actors were talented though. So. Much. Fun. Went with another couple and we were laughing and havin' the time. See this with friends (NOT your parents) as there's a song or two that err on lude. It's very important that you recall Silence of the Lambs (the movie) to "get" the show, but even if you haven't seen the movie recently, you'll have a great time. No intermission, which is almost needed as the chairs as super uncomfortable by the last 10 minutes of the show. Get tickets, laugh and enjoy yourself and repeat. read more

Very funny. I would recommend watching silence of the lambs before going to see this. It will help with some of the jokes however even without a refreshment of your recollection this show will make you crack up. I can here after eating at the redhead so I passed out for abt ten minutes due to food coma. But the parts of the show that I saw were great. The wine they sell here is by the bottle and cheap but there's a reason for it. You can tell that it's cheap wine, not very good at all. They should get wine from trader joes. it's cheaper and that wine is actually good. Good show for 20 dollar tickets. read more

Keeps you laughing. Still rough around some of the edges. It is the movie set as a parody so bone up on your movie before you go. Language, sure, but the actors interpret the parts and the words and the nuances. The audience for our show was small (31?) so I think it lost something without the feedback from the audience. It was a no brainer to grab tickets for our New York trip when a 'Broadway Box' discount showed up in my email for "Silence!" Really, r-e-a-l-l-y funny, crude and creative in so many ways. The lead actress just nails Jody Foster's Agent Starling character imbibing the role with comedic flair and spot on impersonation. A few of the musical numbers could use a little fluffing up on the music and lyrics but you won't care too much because you'll be laughing too hard. The venue is in an old school building which adds to the creepiness of the entire venture, BUT the seating area is very much like a studio theater with seats on risers and the typical "hotel-convention-ballroom" type of chairs that may torture your back and bum somewhat by the time of final curtain (there isn't a "curtain" per se, see Studio Theater.) IT HELPS TO re-familiarize yourself with the original 'Silence of the Lambs' film though ... We caught it on Bravo, where it runs sporadically, though oddly "center cut" for old square tv screens and with a lot of the raunchiness edited out. (So weird, that Bravo has to slice and dice this film yet it shows copious amounts of Real Housewives doing and saying plenty of sh*t that could be left on the cutting room floor --- for good!) You should watch the movie again before seeing this (perhaps at the risk of being freaked out) but even if you know the movie line by line, it still might be worth it to really see and laugh at all the nuances and parodies of Silence! Even if you don't and have barely remembered your fava beans, you'll still laugh your ass off. The theater is great and they sell cheap booze before the show. Their merch is also quite funny. You should look into buying a Precious shirt or a "put the lotion in the basket" pin. The workers do a fantastic job of corralling people into the theater and seating you. With incredibly talented actors and singers they manage to pull off a well-staged and cleverly-scripted musical. $59 for the FBI Headquarter seats got us seated in the front row but I definitely think that getting the cheap tickets is fine as well--there's really no bad seat in the tiny house. This play SHOULD be on Broadway as far as I'm concerned, but the raunchiness and comedy is best suited for a down-to-earth off Broadway audience. The intimacy is really what gives the play its charm. The actress who plays Clarisse--AMAZING. Jodie Foster should be proud... read more

This is a hilarious musical parody on Silence of the Lamb the movie. It was quite inappropriate and overall ridiculous without being too overboard. Definitely keep the children and elders away. Bafflo Bill is super creepy and at some point i think completely naked? I can't really tell from where I'm sitting or is it my own selective memory loss trying to protect meself. read more

From the moment we walked in the door we had a fantastic experience! Every single employee was kind and helpful. Location was very convenient. Decorations in the theater were awesome!!! The show was absolutely hysterical. Adult humor that kept us laughing the whole time. My husband has a background in theater and I have never seen him enjoy a comedy this much. hilarious! a friend and i got tickets at tkts for 50% off (cash only) the same day for a Friday night. We were super excited as this is our kind of show! Seating is theater style, as you get seated farther back the seats are a bit snugger. Many of the seats have cup holders, so if you are a tall person like I am try to straddle the seat if you can and be careful with those cup holders. There are differently priced tickets (like the sheep seats or cocktail seating) all good as the theater is smaller. The theater wasn't full when we went and they let us move father up. We saw 2 understudies but it was still great and we had a blast! Save some money to purchase one of the t-shirts ($25) and give yourself some time to enjoy the haunted house the theater is located in (especially now and during the next few weeks). read more

Decided to see this musical for my birthday with 5 other friends. HILARIOUS! This is the most crass and vulgar show I have ever seen and I loved it! This is the funniest show I have seen in a while. The stage is small and so is the theater. I was in the third row though so I got to see it up close. This show is NOT for kids. Adults only! The new venue is at the Times Scare location on 42nd & 8th. There is a bar in the foyer area of the theater and you can bring your drink inside. Good times were had by all. read more

Kudos to whoever it was who initially came up with the idea to parody Silence of the Lambs via Musical. This show was spectacular in pretty much every way, and as epexted, it was hysterical. They chose just the right people to play Clarise Starling, Hannibal Lecter and Buffalo Bill especially, and the actors played upon every questionable, dirty, and entertaining feature of the characters they were representing. The songs were brilliantly written, too, with numbers like "If I Could Smell Her C*nt" (by Hannibal Lector) and "Are You A Size 14?" by Buffalo Bill. And to top it all off, the show is strewn with various choruses mostly populated by floppy-eared lambs who kind of narrate the show. I would gladly recommend this show to anyone who likes bawdy theater and Silence of the Lambs. read more

I simply loved this vulgar, profanity laced musical from beginning to end... And I didn't see the movie. Having heard about and seen previews of the movie was more than enough to understand the musical. The musical numbers were original, the singers were outstanding and jokes were laugh out loud funny! The cast conveyed a sense that they were having fun up on stage. It was like watching an extended skit of Saturday Night Live (when SNL used to be funny and smart). Funny, witty, raunchy and nude guy alert!! I was laughing all through the show. You have to watch the movie like a day b4 you go for the show because the scenes more relevant and super funny. Poor Hubby of mine had never watched the movie but still managed to LOL. Very Very funny play. Yes, the theater is small but in response to a previous yelper "Rocky A." (who stated that this theater is not equipped to meet the needs of a play with these demands) I reply, who needs to see the actor's feet?! The front two rows are the best seats in the house but to be honest if you purchase tiks in the middle rows like row H you will not enjoy the show any less. And thanks to group-on I purchased two tiks for under $90 and had a great time. The bars and mini restaurant outside the show was nice as well and kept with the "Times Scare" Theme. Great decor and great attention to detail. I will say though you should watch the movie before attending in order to catch all of the little jokes plugged in throughout the show. read more

super super funny parody of Silence of the Lambs. that said, you will not enjoy it unless you've a) seen and b) liked Silence of the Lambs (also, if you lack a fondness for vulgar humor, all bets are off as well). there's no intermission, which i happened to like, but 90 minutes in a crappy folding chair wasn't the most pleasant experience. overall, the show was totally worth it. not to mention that i have a lot of respect for any theater that offers its attendees the option to purchase an entire bottle of wine to take into/drink during the show. note: the difference in "seating quality" between the most expensive and mid-priced seats is not worth the extra money. also, i believe that Goldstar has discounted tickets for weekday showings. oh, and a fair warning: you might get hit in the face with a twinkie during the show. just sayin;. read more

No doubt about it, Silence! is clever and creative and the cast is great. I have friends who saw it and loved it and there were audience members at the performance I went to who were really digging the show ... but it's just not a show for me. I got the humor they're going for, I just didn't find some of it particularly funny, which doesn't help when one of the songs I didn't find funny went on a little too long. Don't get me wrong: when it's funny, it's REALLY funny (and witty!); I had "I'd fuck me" stuck in my head all week. I'd say it's worth checking out if you can find a really good discount on tickets. It looks like I'm in the minority of people who aren't raving about Silence!. I'm glad I went, saw what the hype was about, and can now form my own opinion about it. read more

I just saw this musical at the Hayworth Theatre in Los Angeles. HILARIOUS!!! One of the best shows i've seen. I laughed so hard I was crying.
