The Orpheum is an iconic off-Broadway theater. Years ago -- many years ago! -- I'd seen "The Me Nobody Knows" and "Little Shop of Horrors". More recently "Stomp" had an unusually long run at the Orpheum. The theater is comfortable with good seats and ample leg room ... but if you sit behind someone tall, you're screwed. Luckily nobody was next to us, so we were able to slide over. As others pointed out, bathrooms are limited, with only two stalls in the lady's room. You have to climb a steep stairway to reach the restrooms, which is problematic for people with mobility issues. (One needs to temper expectations since the theater dates back to the early 1900s.) We saw a fabulous five-star dance production called "11 To Midnight" that had me smiling throughout. A friend said, "I only go to Broadway shows." I personally love the intimacy of off-Broadway and the promise of productions that may take more risks than what you'd see on B'way. read more

What a beautiful theater! I had never been here before, but it's so easy to get to and it's such an intimate space. If you're looking at the seat map, and see balcony seats in the front row, I would maybe avoid the very end seats just because of the poles that may be in the way. But otherwise the seats are pretty standard and comfortable and the staff was friendly. read more

Can't believe I have never been to this theater until recently. It is not on broadway. It is actually on the east side near St. Marks area. It seems to be an old theater and that is has been there forever. The lobby area is very small and it has a super small concession stand and merch area too. There are not too many choices for a snack or drinks here. It can get a bit chaotic in my opinion especially on a cold night and there is not much room to move around in. The theater itself is smallish and a bit narrow. There is an upstairs too. The seats are on the smaller side, not the most comfortable. Staff who work here are nice and helpful. read more

This is the review for the current production of Ginger Twinsies at Orpheum Theater. Ginger Twinsies is currently playing their off-Broadway production at Orpheus theater. This show is a parody of The 1998 film "The Parent Trap." This production was quite fun and showcased multiple 90s tropes. Despite the stage being small, the set design was impeccable and utilized strobe lights, doors and scenery changes. The plot, for the most part, followed the same concept as the film. I was seated in orchestra right H12 and my seat was unobstructed. The only setback to this fantastic night was the bathroom which only had two stalls. read more

Gritty is the word that comes to mind after hanging around the outside, lobby and stairs to the balcony of the theater. It's been here forever, I lived and worked up 2nd Avenue in the 80's but remember it for Little Shop of Horrors in the early 80's. Sat in the front of the balcony for Big Gay Jamboree, great view, excellent sound. Small theater, 299 seats per Wikipedia. Stomp was here for a very long time (1994-2023) More like a MS theater but this also has a small balcony, steep ! Seats are ample & comfy. Smaller theater but great space. Went to see Rachel Bloom's show here after previously seeing it first in the Lortel (also great). No issues with overhang with center orch. Keep in mind the only bathroom is upstairs and the merch is in the small lobby. Even though I got there fairly early, I would've definitely gotten there earlier to allot for the limited amount of stalls and knowing that the merch area is something you're kind of quickly shuffled past as you provide your ticket. This is a very typical, inner city type theater. It's small, almost a store front. It's in a very busy and lively area near NYU. The area and the clientele for the show was saw, "The Empire Strips Back", were young, hip and full of energy. In Denver we have the Ogden and the Bluebird which are very similar. The theater is surrounded by interesting bars, bookshops, tattoo parlors and restaurants. My wife and I took the subway there and back, walked four blocks and never felt unsafe. Even when the show let out near midnight. It's a very small theater but the lighting and acoustics were fabulous. I deducted one star for having bathrooms that are very complicated to get to. So much so, opted to just wait until I got back to the hotel room. The shot itself was a huge hit. Funny, sexy and great performances. read more

Just because it's off broadway doesn't give a license for you to be disgusting. The bathrooms are terrible. The stench is as bad as the subway. There are few stalls. The line is so large several people missed the first 10 minutes of the show. I ended up leaving in the first act because my daughter needed the bathroom and I wouldn't subject her to this. 500 $ down the drain. read more

When trying to buy tickets for STOMP I wanted to get an idea of where the seats are as supposed to the stage but with this place it's small enough that the seats don't matter much where you are. I was surprised at how small the theater is? Not really sure why I expected it to be bigger or in better condition seems to be the theme with a lot of these smaller venues. The small space makes for a bit of an uncomfortable & cramped stay while watching the show I was lucky enough to be entertain so it didn't bother me much since my attention was on the show. Theater could probably benefit from a good face lift, great show probably deserves a better more modern venue. read more

It is hard to review this because the show is awesome, but sat on the front row of the balcony. You have to be a midget to sit comfortably in the seat and on the ends you have availing three feet from your face right in the middle of your view of the stage. The lower bar of the railing is right at your knees. So the show goes like this...you slouch in your seat to see the show while your feet hang off the balcony. At the end your back hurts and then you have to climb down stairs. If I knew this was my seat I would have made other arrangements however at no time of purchasing the tickets through stomps ticketmaster website did it say there was an obstructed view, and I spent $90 on the seat, should not be theat costly for that kind of struggle. Great spot for Stomp. Small theater and the seats are close together so you definitely feel a little cramped until the show starts... then it's so entertaining you forget about the lady crunching food loudly next to you or the kid behind you touching your hair. Well, you almost forget. Ha. The theater staff are friendly and efficient in getting you where you need to go and directing you to the bathrooms, which are upstairs in the balcony level. We sat orchestra level about one third back from the stage and we were able to see and enjoy everything without a problem. We had a great time being entertained by the cast of Stomp! read more

I came here to see Stomp! Luckily enough, we found parking down the block during primetime 7:45 PM which was pure luck. The staff was nice and efficient. The only thing is that they don't serve alcohol at the theater or food. So eat before you come! The show has no intermission so use the bathroom before you come. Also, be careful with the stairs when going to the bathroom. They are extremely steep. The show was absolutely incredible and I recommend for everyone to see Stomp! It was funny, fun, entertaining and rhythmically whimsical. Please come it see the show. You won't regret it. It is a must see. The theater is clean and inviting. It is a little tight like some other yelpers have said, but go on a weekday to avoid that. read more

I had seen Stomp back in 1999 and thought it was amazing and innovating then. I hadn't been back since and decided to check it out during the 20 for 20 promotion being held during restaurant week. I was pleased to see that this show is still going strong. It is creative, funny and entertaining the entire time. The show runs about an hour and a half without intermission, but keeps your interest throughout. This show is a great example of how music can come from anywhere and it just takes a creative spirit to make it happen. I think this show is great for older kids (it can be a bit loud for very young children), especially those interested in music. The theater is small, so there aren't any terrible seats, but unfortunately there are some obstructed views. My only real complaint is that the seats are terribly uncomfortable, especially if you are taller (I am about 5'8" and I found these seats to be worse than many theaters around the city). I started to get a bit antsy towards the end of the show simply because my knee was starting to really hurt from being cramped up for so long. If you are on the tall side, be prepared to pay for your enjoyment. read more

I never review theaters, since they've all seemed the same to me, but I had to voice my thoughts on the Orpheum Theater. Why is it so cramped and uncomfortable here? I am 5 feet tall and I couldn't fit in these seats. Imagine what my 6 foot tall brother was going through! I felt awful bringing him to sit here. Why is the bathroom in shambles? It's so small I thought I was in a nursery school bathroom. And why are they allowing babies in here? It's kind of annoying watching a show while hearing a newborn behind you crying and babbling! So of course, I was there to see Stomp. I loved it, but that's a separate Yelping. This review is on the venue. I think this is the PERFECT venue for a show like Stomp. It's not fancy, not pretty, not fully stocked. The walls beyond the stage were decked in, well, garbage...the kind of stuff they'd somehow make music to in the show. The acoustics were great. The banging hardly echoed. It's small, intimate, and just plain cute. The staff was really friendly, both security and the box office. The night we went, the theatre was extremely hot and dry. I was very uncomfortable throughout pretty much the whole show. I actually had to take off my sweater and was sitting in a camisole (on a cold winter evening and no I'm not menopausal!). The heat was also making me sleepy - could you imagine being able to nod off for a few at a show called STOMP?! I had been wanting to see the show for years and was very happy to have the opportunity. It was good but I was expecting just a little more "oomph". There were still some aspects of the show that I really enjoyed and where the movements and hitting of everyday objects actually did seem to create music. And that's why you go to see this show. I would recommend the show if you can get discounted tickets, and I do hope that my overly-hot experience was a random one-time thing and the theatre is not like that all the time. read more

This review is strictly based on the theater itself (not the amazing show I've seen here twice). The first thing I have to mention is how uncomfortable the seats are. Not friendly toward the tall or 'hippy' individual. Thankfully for me the show was so freaking awesome I was distracted from my discomfort lol....it's not a big theater and the acoustics in the building (or lack thereof) make it very easy to hear the person 5 rows in front of you whispering. So because some people don't know how to actually be quiet during performances, i find that quite rude. But I LOVE STOMP!! So as long as it's being shown here, I'll most likely be back again and again...sporadically! read more

I read the limited reviews on Yelp about this theatre hoping to get an idea of what seats I should buy to see Stomp. Yes, the theatre is small. I guess any seats in this theatre would be OK with the exception for short people. The theatre does not incline enough for the person behind you to see over the top of the person in front. If you are short like me, and, a very tall person sits in front of you (like what happened to me), you are pretty much screwed. Luckily I had an aisle seat so I spent most of the show with my neck contoured. As for the seats, I thought they were fine. They are cushioned. Also, they provide cushions for the kids. read more

just watched stomp this afternoon with my gf for the first time. i have been wanting to see this show since last summer when i was in vegas and finally saw it today. and i must say, i must have had high expectations for this show bc unfortunately i was a bit disappointed. it wasn't a complete let down, however, i just thought it would be more exciting with a bunch of ooo's and ahh's. yes, they're talented but the show itself felt liked it drag at times. my favorite was the beginning and the last bit. i hate to admit this, i nodded off for a sec! it might have been a combination the freezing weather outside, the warm theater inside and the nonstop walking around. who knows. we bought the tickets at half price so it came out to $81. BUT ACTUALLY, i would say it cost me $101 bc i F*CKING lost $20 at the booth. it was so windy the wind blow my money. i was able to catch most of it except one bill... it fell down the damn crack of the bldg! needless to say i was extremely upset for quite some time and am still bummed. whatever. my gf tried to make me feel better by saying some homeless person will find it and that will make him/her happy. ugh! i dont want to make a homeless person happy... i want to make ME happy! selfish? i don't care...bite me! read more

I have seen Stomp before, but it seems that this time there was some energy lacking. There was a bit more coordination before, and the flow was faster and smoother. But it doesn't mean that you should miss the show at all. It's truly worth watching. The Orpheum Theater is another story altogether. The seats are seriously uncomfortable and both times I had a regular height person sitting in front of me block my view almost entirely. They really need to give some thought to the slope of the seats to allow for better viewing for those sitting behind tall people (or those with weird hairdos - seriously, leave the crown buns at home). read more

This show is a MUST see! Even for families. I don't have kids, but there were several in attendance and they all greatly enjoyed the show. What amazed me most was the perfectly in synch performers. They all participated in making the beat of the music with their movements and they never missed a beat! Especially if you are creative or musical this show will blow your mind! What I liked about the venue was the courteous service and down to earth people there. Sometimes theaters and the people that work can have the air of superiority, but everyone was so warm and real. read more

NEVER I REPEAT NEVER PURCHASE PRIORITY SEATING AT FULL PRICE FOR THE ORPHEUM THEATER. THE THEATER DOES NOT FILL UP AND THEY MOVE EVERYONE FROM BACK TO FRONT ANYWAY. The bathrooms are also two small ,only two stalls and very rundown and dingy not taking care of I attempted to purchase tickets during theater week at buy one get one free. Made a mistake and did not enter the code correctly, while I thought I canceled the order unfortunately i did not and wound up purchasing an additional set. Between Ticketmaster and the actual theater I went back-and-forth for days trying to resolve with absolutely no resolution. i wound up paying full price for seats that were right in the middle of the theater which were considered priority seating.... I'm not sure why they are considered priority seating because the seats right behind it and right in front of it sell for a fraction of the price and only an arms length away. The theater would not give me any resolution over the phone even after I explained I would be taking the train into the city to see the show the incredibly rude box office personnel could not help me. They only offered to refund my discounted tickets moments before the show. At that time I had given them away rather than risk losing it all together. This is a review of the theater and the personnel working there show and the performers were wonderful but the headache I went through was not worth it read more
