Absolutely unimpressed by Silicon Valley Iron Works Inc. From scheduling to work completed, to customer service, this is a 1-star operation. The job was to modify the existing lock set to ADA-compliant height and replace the existing hinges with commercial-grade ball-bearing hinges on our main gate to our private HOA property. [[HIGHLIGHT]]In finalizing the schedule with them, Miriam wouldn't thoroughly answer our questions via email.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]We had to call to verify the start and end time and make sure they understood that the work had to be done by 3pm as traffic through the main gate would be high between 3:30-8pm.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]They rescheduled the job TWICE. Their reschedules meant we had to reschedule our staff since the work being done was on the main gate/access point to the property, and we had to maintain member and asset safety and access integrity to the property.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Once scheduled, they arrived later than agreed and didn't complete the work on time. The person doing the work then asked that members stop entering the facility (our only entrance) at the time we told them they had to be finished. Less than 5 days after their repair, the gate handle/lock stopped functioning. After our facilities manager assessed the gate and took the handle apart, he noted a small part of the lock mechanism was missing which was why the gate handle eventually failed. [[HIGHLIGHT]]We contacted Miriam as it was Memorial Day weekend, and we were very busy. We asked her to send someone to fix the gate. She refused.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] She said the gate was working when they left the job, and then accused our facilities manager of deliberately losing the piece. It gets worse. [[HIGHLIGHT]]After she accused her customer of purposely sabotaging the gate during one of our busiest weekends, she then removed herself from the text thread where we were communicating.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Finally, they never sent our Office Manager the invoice. When they didn't get paid, less than 3 weeks after the work was "completed", they emailed us a "California 20 Day Preliminary Notice" and said they had sent the 20-day notice via certified mail earlier. They did not. [[HIGHLIGHT]]No one from their office called us. No one from their office re-sent the invoice or asked for a status. That is not how you treat customers.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] They quoted us for a much bigger fence job we have coming up - we will never use them again. Their customer service is horrendous. read more

My wife loved the work they did on gate so much we had the com back to design and build railing for a raised patio and in a nutshell it turned out awesome. Great design, great build and perfect installation. Especially appreciated triple checking on measurements and even make sure design aligned with our needs and preferences. I have an automatic security gate at the bottom of my driveway that has become a bit misaligned. Silicon Valley Iron Works came out and "fixed" it. Cost $650. Three weeks later the gate remained misaligned. Edgar came out again and "fixed" it again. Cost $750. A few weeks later, despinte new gate hinges and other repairs, the gate is still misaligned and is not unusable. I hae waited nearly two weeks for Edgar to return--even left a key for him for 12 days. He is too busy with other customers to commit when he will return. Maybe this week, maybe not. I ordered a decorative piece to be made by Silicon Valley Iron Works: 1. The piece took a very very long time to make. One of their managers left, they moved the shop and one of their machines stopped working. I was going to quit waiting but I had already paid a deposit. 2. There appeared to have been a misunderstanding regarding the size of the scrolls so they made two decorative pieces with the same design. This misunderstanding cost me money so that is why I'm a 2 instead of a 5 star poster. 3. In the end the piece that I wanted was finished they way I like and not so heavy to put on the wall. Wish that I didn't have to pay for the second piece too though!! read more

I would not recommend this company. More than one year has passed with us out $5800 and nothing done except time wasted attempting to communicate with them. Got us to sign a contract and kept trying to increase the price, then saying we had to proceed. Took them a month to figure out the original fence project they had us sign for was illegal to complete. Currently refiling a complaint with the BBB. Heading to a lawyer tomorrow to help get our money back. Caveat emptor! read more

I hired Silicon Valley Ironworks to create a fence around my garden. I didn't want to pay for a full custom design, so I looked for businesses that could add pre-made decorative panels to basic fencing. SVI helped me pick panels from a large catalog of options and offered several very good suggestions. They added several embellishments and decorative touches which gave the finished project a hand-crafted looked. The project was started quickly and completed on time. SVI did a great job for me, they did wonderful wrought iron decorative work and installed a gate and railing system. They always meet my requirements and did extra work. If there is one downside it is that they would hire additional employees to meet the demand. The staff was always very courteous. If you are looking for installation of high end fencing and gates with automation , do yourself a favor and stay away from Silicon Valley Iron Works. Edgar Fernandez , who was in charge of our project is LACKING major qualities that are necessary to deliver the quality product: DUE DILIGENCE (original specifications that were quoted in the contract had been changed and the price increased), TIME AND PEOPLE MANAGEMENT (his crew would disappear for a few weeks without any justification. The whole project took 16 months to complete, instead of contractual promise- 4 months), ABILITY TO DELIVER AND INSTAL QUALITY IRON WORK (the gates have been rusted in places even after powder coating and custom made paint applied), EXPERTISE IN INSTALLATION AUTOMATION FOR THE GATES (we have been having problems with our three sets of gates on the regular basis. Two sets were installed using solar panels , another was connected to electrical supply. Whether it is brand LIFTMASTER that provides flaky design or unprofessional installation by Silicon Valley Iron Work, but the gates would stop operating for no obvious reason. Sometimes, they start working back on its own, or my husband finds and fixes the problem. Current problem with solar set we are having now, less then a year after the completion of the project, does not look simple and we cannot fix it on our own) and finally, CUSTOMER SUPPORT AND WARRANTY (Edgar would send his people couple of times to look into and fix the problem with the functionality of the gates a few months after we paid the final amount, but he stopped responding to our concerns after his people failed to silence extremely squeaky gate (most likely due to poor coating or/and incorrect installation of the gate). We will look into hiring another iron gates company to provide the service establishing functionality of the existing gates. I do not wish you end up like us, so look for more reliable and professional company and let us know about it. read more

Avoid this company. My job was pretty simple, yet the experience was poor. I called and they gave me an estimate on the phone to fix a fence gate. I agreed and they gave me a time. When the time came, they were terribly late, and when they did show up it was not to do the work, but to check the estimate in person. So, they reaffirmed the estimate, and identified a few other things to do, and said they're provide an updated estimate, the next day. Well of course they did not. And after another day I called, and they said they'd get it to me. Well they did not. And when the day came for them to do the actual work, they then increased the price for the gate fix 50% to $450--Despite two times giving me the $300 estimate, and one of those times in person. I will say that the actual work on the gate appears decent. But the whole experience was unprofessional, and I will never take work there again. I'm lucky this was not for a bigger job. read more
