A lot of parking, but there are 10 buildings and it's a bit tough to use all the amenities as they are all so far away

Do not move here! I have lived here for almost 5 years - the first 2-3 years I had normal issues as any renter and I loved it here. However, the last 2 year have been terrible! The units need to be better maintained, they charge unnecessary additional fees for everything and require you to pay for valet trash and cable. It is not only limited (internet service is bad and trash doesn't come consistently) but extremely overpriced. We only renewed due to convenience while we have been house hunting. The office staff has changed significantly in the last 2 years - 8 out 10 times I have had to work with them they are extremely rude, unprofessional and do not provide a decent level of customer service for the amount they charge in rent. The grounds are not well maintained; the doors to the outside handles are broken or don't stuff, hallways and stairwells of our building are not well lit and they are constantly filthy with trash, pet feces, stained carpets, strong foul odors and smells. The elevator smells like urine and is constantly broken with no notifications as to when it's broken or will be fixed. I lived at Silos for 2 years and during that time, my experience left a lot to be desired. Below are the biggest inconveniences I encountered on a regular basis: 1. Staff. The staff in the leasing office always seems inconvenienced when you stop in to pick up a package, drop off a check or get a replacement key fob. On several occasions I have had to walk into their offices from the main reception area to ask them to assist me and leave their personal phone calls or facebooking for later. 2. Key Fob. My kemp fob had to be replaced on numerous occasions. The staff could offer no explanation as to why my fob (and the fob of countless neighbors) continuously deactivated. This left me locked out of my building, the gym or other common areas more times than I can count. 3. Parking. The parking lot for building 10 has fewer spaces than residents. If you get home after 7PM plan on walking 3 blocks in a sketchy part of southend. My car was also broken into INSIDE the gate and so were many other cars. Additionally, there is no parking for guests. 4. Fire pits. They never work. Ever. 5. Dog poop. Neighbors leave dog poop everywhere. And while some bother to bag it, they leave the bags in the lobbies and staircases. 6. Carpet cleanliness in common areas. Looks like the carpet in a frat house. But considering the looks of the pool on the weekends, this is to be expected. 7. Smell. The odor in the halls from valet trash is unbearable and embarrassing when you bring guests over. 8. Call box. I almost always had to go down to let guests in as the call box often failed. 9. Safety. Once a homeless person walked right in off the street and knocked on doors asking for money. Another time, someone throw a rock through the glass foyer doors to steal things inside. .......the location is decent and there is a lot to do in southend, but you'd be better off in another complex. read more

I rented here for nearly three years and had a wonderful time. The facilities and the people here are wonderful. There only reason I left was because I bought my open place. There location is fantastic. It is close to a supermarket, brewerys (4 withing easy walking distance), restaurants, and the lightrail. It's very possible to love here without a car. I recommend taking part in the events they hold such as wine tasting and the yoga, all included in the price. The staff are super helpful and never had any issue that wasn't resolved quickly. read more

The Good: 1. The front staff is so wonderful and sweet. When our air conditioning was on the fritz they arranged for us to spend the night in the model apartment. 2. The maintenance staff is quick to respond. On another occasion when our air conditioning was on the fritz, within minutes of submitting the on-line work request, a maintenance worker was knocking on our door. 3. I loved living by the light rail trail. It's a 1.5 mile run to uptown. We could walk back from Panthers games. It's a half mile walk to Sycamore Brewery. Triple C Brewery and Good Bottle are literally next door. Mac's Speed Shop and Long Animal Hospital are across the street. They are building a Harris Teeter across the street too. 4. The apartments themselves are very nice, from the lighting fixtures to the cabinetry. The Bad: 1. I'm in my forties, and felt that Silos -- and the South End neighborhood -- is a little too young for me. Go to the pool on the weekend and you'll think you're on spring break. There are way too many in the pool getting drunk, so it's definitely not a family atmosphere. 2. Tenants don't pick up after their dogs. Even though the complex has plenty of bags and trash cans around the area, you see poop everywhere. My dog was constantly getting some kind of stomach bug. 3. Safety is an issue. One night our neighbor's car was broken into. We later found out that it happened to at least five other cars, but the complex did nothing to notify the tenants. We found that odd. It's a gated community, but one block over it can be pretty sketch. read more

The apartments are beautiful but do not be fooled. The leasing office women are an absolute joke. I moved out and had a horrendous experience and they turned around and bad mouthed me to another resident who was my friend. There are a lot of nice apartments in Charlotte with much more competent and kind leasing office women. I would not recommend the silos to anyone I cared about. The pool, a huge selling point , is filled with trashy people and their hair extensions. Look elsewhere and you won't regret it. Jessica was unkind and unprofessional when I had to break my lease for professional reasons. Absolutely would not have leased here knowing what I know now. read more

Awesome experience. Lived here for two great years. Clean, maintenance team is awesome and quick. Leasing ladies are kind and extremely helpful. Gym is nice. Yoga is great. Never had an issue parking. The only real complaint I ever had was that lots of drunk young people come staggering down the hallways at 2:00am. But this *is* an apartment full of young people, in a neighborhood full of young people, so....Can't really blame Silos for that. Anyway, loved my experience here. read more

I normally wouldn't think to write a review about an apartment complex, but my experience with maintenance at Silos today prompted me to. I'm a current resident (moved in in January) and besides the beautiful apartments, pristine amenities, and friendly staff, its worth saying the Maintenance team at Silos is AWESOME. I never realized how great it would be to live in a complex with an efficient, effective, and fast maintenance team that gets things DONE! Having a team like this now, makes it so obvious that I could never live anywhere else. At Silos they keep the standards high, I can't tell you how much I appreciate the quality of life here. Being able to put in a maintenance request and have it taken care of in less than 24 hours is something I couldn't go without now. And also something I never knew could be so great. So I mean, theres a ton of great things about Silos, but the maintenance staff is one thing that probably doesn't get enough credit, and a potential renter wouldn't necessarily think about! Me and my fiance moved into Silos about 3 years ago and we have had the best experience since we moved in. The management has always been so attentive and quick to respond if we have any issues and have always treated everyone in the community like family. The location is walkable to so many great places to eat and drink, and also a few minutes to the light rail stop for those that work uptown. I would highly recommend for accessibility, management, and overall great experience and place to live!! read more

Silos is awesome! What sets this apartment complex apart is how friendly and helpful the staff is. They treat you like a person and it makes a difference. The tenants are generally clean, quiet (for the most part-aside from a few crowded pool parties) and respectful. The only slight downfall is Silos is that sometimes the parking lot would fill up and you would have to find park outside your designated lot. The staff realized this and took a big initiative to hire a new parking company and send tow alerts for non-residents taking spots inside the resident lot. The yoga classes were fun as well as the run club. The gym is also great compared to other apartment gyms. I would recommend Silos to anyone looking for a good place to live in South End. read more

I dislike leaving negative comments/reviews for any place of business, but here goes. I have viewed several apts in Southend and have heard great things about silos. Unfortunately that's where it ends. My first impression is that there is no organization as to how to conduct tours based on first come first serve. I asked one of the staff how next appts were determine and was assured that it was under control. Nope, not the case. Completely overlooked and again promoted the question. I did receive a half apology with a staff member stating that I should have phrase my question differently. Quick feedback is just to apologize for misunderstanding my question or ask for clarification, rather than criticizing my delivery. read more

My fiance and I moved into Silos in early June and absolutely love living here! We look forward to the coffee truck, Avalanche Coffee, that's here every Friday, the convenience to the Rail Trail and walkability to South End bars, restaurants, shops etc and the responsiveness/proactive updates from the management office. The grounds are well maintained, pool/grill area is lovely, and overall we recommend living here. My only complaint would be the valet trash/recycling pick up as we feel we should be provided a recycling bin in addition to our trash bin for pick-ups. The current trash bin is too small to fit both bags on a nightly basis and we think the recycling bin may help eliminate the use of the clear plastic required recycling bags which is wasteful. We love living here and so does our pup! It's a very dog-friendly community and a fairly diverse age group of folks residing here as well. read more

I have no complaints with Silos in regards to the beautiful apartments and great amenities. However, I have had nothing but trouble with the staff. When we first moved in our leasing agent made a point to say how annoyed she was with us for changing our lease when it was clearly stated it could be changed multiple times. 2. When I have gone in to discuss rent and paying utilities I had two leasing agents tell me they don't know what I'm suppose to do.. if you don't know how am I suppose to? 3. Signed a lease because "guaranteed" gated parking. Yeah.. right. There is no parking after 8pm and if you're a female like me you don't want to be walking late at night through the streets. I parked in an illegal spot after complaining about non residents parking in the lot and got my car towed by the leasing office, pictures of my vehicle with my name and address, were sent to towing company. They decided they should tow residents instead of people who don't live there. The place is lovely but when one of the reasons you chose to live in a place becomes compromised and after request of assistance and nothing is done frustration is inevitable. read more

Absurd. There is not a more suited word for the apartments of Silos at South End. Wildly unreasonable in all aspects in regards to living. Anything you would desire in a leasing manager and staff is not found here. Simpson Properties needs to readjust their standards for customer service and beyond that their consideration for their tenants. The idea of "resort style" living is relinquished here the moment you actually start living here. Consistent issues from the moment we signed our lease, the office staff has not been helpful, and if they are they helpful they are quick to make you feel as though you have inconvenienced them, when you simply, oh I don't know, ask them to do their job. 1. Parking-- This was our number one concern as young women living in an apartment uptown. We sought to rent from a complex that had gated parking and where we were 'guaranteed parking close' by. This guarantee fell short as we consistently have to park blocks away from our building *outside* of our parking gate, leaving our cars out on public streets and vulnerable to towing. On top of that when you do get lucky to find a parking spot inside the gate your fear for getting towed does not vanish; for, the towing company will still pull your car regardless of if you are a resident or not-- based on a technicality. You would think considering we pay a disgustingly stupid amount of money in rent we would have the leasing office on our side in regards to such technicalities.. yet that is not the case, they would rather side with their cheap towing company than to provide their tenants with the service they were promised. 2. Utilities-- another flaw in this 'resort' falls in the quality of appliances that are given. Washing machine and dryer, you are better off buying your own. Faucets, lowest of quality. 3. Amenities-- All the perks that make you want to sign here stop glittering when you realize half the time the pool and/or gym are closed due to maintenance. 4. Service-- The only time of year is the the leasing office will be kind / go out of there way to help or give free beers as bribes is during their survey season. If they would consistently deliver service to their tenants year round there would be much less issues in the turn around. It's unfortunately too late for us, as we are 7 months in to our lease (and have had some sort of inconvenience/ issue from Silos each of those months), however if you are about to start renting.. run away from this place FAST. Take your money and put it else where because believe me there are many better places you can put it. read more

I've lived in several apartment communities since I have lived in Charlotte, Silos has by far been my favorite. The location is close to anything you would ever need in South End (restaurants, breweries, grocery stores, light rail). I loved the amenities there and took advantage of the pool, gym, yoga, grills, coffee, etc. The staff is so hopeful, any time I would have an issue they would get back to me right away. After extensively researching apartments in South End along the light rail line, we selected the Silos Apartments and are very glad that we did! The Silos is truly like resort living. We are delighted with the modern amenities, such as a business center (complete with computers, printer/fax machine, and a private conference room), free Starbucks coffee, gourmet kitchen and social rooms with a pool table and card tables. We use the swimming pool, bocce court, great gym, and gas grills often. The gym includes a studio for twice-weekly yoga lessons! The staff is friendly and efficient. The maintenance staff does a great job of promptly addressing service requests, often within one day. There are many opportunities to meet residents at Saturday brunch, cooking demonstrations, food truck events, and movies by the pool. Weekends at the pool and grills are well attended. Our only concern was with the many dogs living here. The Silos is very dog friendly. Fortunately, the dogs and their owners are well-trained and responsible neighbors. From beginning to end the experience was first rate. It starts with the leasing agents, MJ and Jessica who are not only so great to work with during the initial process of finding an apartment but are exceptionally helpful to assist with anything while you are living there. The apartments are updated, spacious and very livable. The amenities are very nice from the well appointed gym to the very social pool area. It is also a very dog friendly environment. Sotheby's has so much going on and the building around the area continues. I only lived there for 6 months as I moved into a house but I will miss the convenience and great environment of the Silos. read more

I was one of the first residents at Silos South End. I stayed for almost 7 years and loved it! The maintenance team is super efficient. I never waited more than a day for a request to be resolved. The front office staff is so welcoming to residents and their pets. They were always accommodating-you can tell that they truly care about their residents. 4 stars only because the rent is very high - even for south end. But if you can afford it then it's the place to be. I don't understand some of the negative reviews, I have found that everyone who works at silos specially in the leasing office is overwhelmingly friendly and always willing to help. As opposed to apartments I stayed in before they are much quicker to respond and offer more amenities than I could even ask for. There was an incident where my apartment building made a mistake with some of our trash violating the apartment policy and the building was so willing to work with us and let us off with a warning which was fantastic since it was completely our mistake. As far as issues I've had it's a little bit hard to get mail sometimes because the office has fairly brief hours and sometimes packages are delivered there instead of to the door. My dry cleaning delivery service also frequently has issues getting into the building because Silas has not given them a fob or access so that's another issue that hopefully they will get worked out soon. read more

My experience was so wonderful I felt compelled to write a review and I haven't even moved into my apartment. I'm relocating to Charlotte from Chicago and spent many weeks researching apartments and reading countless reviews. Silos had the most positive reviews so I made this my first stop on my list of complexes I visited. It was my first and ONLY stop. From the minute I walked into the leasing office I felt welcomed and comfortable. Jessica was the person who I worked with and her enthusiasm for Silos is obvious and encouraging. If you are relocating here you read a lot about amenities. Silos really does have all the amenities they have on their website. I saw them for myself so they do exist. Jessica took the time to listen to my situation and found me the best apartment that will work perfectly for my personal and professional needs. Once I decided on my apartment, the application process was simple and painless. Jessica again made everything so easy. So far my Silos experience has been beyond excellent and I'm very happy I decided to make this my home. read more

This is hands down the BEST apartment complex I've ever lived in. This place is like a resort. It's has a luxury pool, Game Center with poker and pool for the boys, a pet spa, a turf dog park and the most helpful leasing office you can ask for. By the way if you are anything like me you probably think that I work for or have some association with the complex. I don't at all. The Silos is easily the best apartment in Charlotte when you consider the floorplan, location and amenities. The price is on the higher side for Charlotte but coming from Atlanta I don't mind it. read more

I have lived here for 9 months and think this is an amazing place to live. I am happy to be moving to my own house but will truly miss living here. Why do I love the Silo's? * The Staff: They are First Class - they know you by name, are sincere, and quick to address any issue, within their control, as quickly as possible * The Facilities: New, modern, up-to-date, bright, great gym, free coffee, great on-site resident office and conference room * The Apartment: Granite, stainless steel, W/D in unit, and 10' ceilings! This place is so quite!!! The only noise I hear is the train when it goes by and the band at the outdoor summer concerts on Wednesdays across the street. I have never heard a significant noise or sound through the walls!!! I hope my new house is this quite. NO PLACE IS PERFECT, but this place is close!!! More than once I have stopped prospective residents on tours and encouraged them to sign up at the silo's and I would encourage you to pick the silo's too. read more

Been here for eight months, and love it. It's on the higher end price-wise, but it's worth it. The apartments are great, but the awesome staff and maintenance really makes the difference over other South End Apartment options. Noise levels are also very low in comparison. Common spaces, gym and events are a great perk too. For us, going up a big price wise was definitely worth it, we are very happy at Silos. read more

Well I would start off by saying, I looked at a thousand apartments before relocating to Charlotte. As it seems that SIlos would be awesome. The building walls are very thin and you can hear everything from your neighbors to the people above you. It is horrible. They don't push the non smoking in the buildings or balconies. Hence the cigerette butts all over my balcony. THEY DO TOW IN THE GATED LOT FOR NO PARKING PASS SHOWN, ETC! Then they have the balls to say they dont have anything to do with it. The key fobs arn't the best as the thing that sets it off is behind a tree. So you may be pushing the fob 20 plus times. Now when I moved it, I believe that it was a more mature crowd, now we have very young and loud and continous parting at all times of hours and days. They do charge for lost keys, extra parking passes, etc. Parking passes don't stick on windows so suggest using lots of tape. LML I really wanted to relocate to a better building, although a $1400 increase in rent. So I am still here and still dealing with the problems until I buy a property. The security is there, although if you call security for a problem it goes to there main call center and you have to tell them what location you are at hence Silos and the problem. But most of the time they don't even report the problem to the leasing office. And or do anything about it. The amentites are great, except the fact that you can only have two visitors per apartment in your common areas including the pool. OH and the pool during the summer on the weekends is a VEGAS party. Tons of alcohol and young people being assholes. But thats all I have to say. Not impressed. read more

THE WORST LEASING STAFF I HAVE EVER WORKED WITH. Seriously, this office is HORRIBLE. I'm not one to leave reviews, but my experience with them has been such a nightmare I felt like it was necessary. When I first toured with Silos, I absolutely loved the units, amenities, the building, gated parking, etc. I toured at least 10-15 other complexes but kept coming back to Silos. I wish I had signed with any BUT them. For starters, they WILL NOT let you sign a legally binding lease until Move-In Day......ABSURD! They'll print out a Welcome Sheet that states the price they quoted you, which unit, proposed move in/move out day and have you sign and they sign. You leave there feeling confident you just secured yourself an apartment. NOT THE CASE. Once my Welcome Sheet was signed, I received a call a few weeks after from the Property Manager, Courtney, who told me the person living in my proposed unit has decided to stay and I no longer can live there. After 15-20 minutes of arguing my stance on me SIGNING for that unit, she lets me know it's not legally binding and I will not be considered a resident or even "future resident" until Move-In Day. After much discussion, they called back a few days later to let me know another similar unit was available and would I like to (again) sign a Welcome Sheet for it. I said sure. Again, another 2 weeks go by and they call to inform me that tenant as well has decided to stay and again...out of an apartment. At this point, I'm begging them to let me sign a lease so I don't have the extreme stress of having an apartment pending....they refuse. They will only let future residents sign leases (you guessed it) ON MOVE IN DAY. WHY IN GOD'S NAME WOULD A LEASING COMPANY NOT WANT THE ASSURANCE AS WELL THAT THEY HAVE A TENANT LINED UP?!? After so much confusion and stressful days/nights, I decided to lease elsewhere and my new leasing office has been nothing but angels. Simpson Property Group needs to get a grip on this office ASAP before they lose everyone. Absolutely absurd, ladies of Silos South End. read more

Lived here several months now, and I don't have a single bad thing to say. Unlike some apartments, Silos has great people in the leasing office-Jessica was extremely helpful during my application phase. The maintenance team is incredibly quick to come fix problems. Even the janitors are friendly. Apartment has a nice gym, nice pool, yoga studio with classes and several other nice common areas. Pricey, but you're getting what you pay for here, and it's about what you'd pay to live anywhere in South End. Super dog friendly. Good mix of younger just-out-of-college types and older folks. read more

I had nothing but a FANTASTIC experience while living at The Silos! We lived at more than one apartment throughout our near 3 years in the community and we had no complaints at all. The staff in the office is great, Jessica and the rest of the girls have always been more than helpful and willing to accommodate our needs. I have lived at similar resort style properties in the past and this one beats out the rest, by far. The maintenance staff is always prompt and very professional, and the amenities are constantly held up in pristine condition. The entire property truly makes you feel like you are living in a tight knit community, all of the residents are super friendly. I have visited many properties in the South End neighborhood and none of them hold a candle to The Silos, in my opinion! read more

Really enjoyed my time living at Silos. The apartments were gorgeous and the entire site was well-maintained. Noise was a nonissue (although I may have had quiet neighbors?), and I really loved all of the modern fixtures. The pool and fitness center are absolutely gorgeous and I miss having access to them! My only gripe (and this was kind of huge during the summer) is that residents were only allowed to have two guests per apartment (NOT per resident) at the pool. I lived in a one-bedroom with my boyfriend, so that meant that we were only allowed to have two guests total. Normally this wasn't a huge issue, and I understand the rationale behind it (the pool was getting really crowded), but we once had three guests staying with us. I was out of town for the weekend, so my boyfriend figured that he could bring the three guests since I wasn't going to be there (since we could have four people total including us). The pool monitor was really unaccommodating and outright refused access to my boyfriend and his three out-of-town guests. Considering the rule was inconsistently enforced (there were always huge ragers after the pool monitors left on sunday evenings), I thought that was really unfair and it left a pretty bad taste in our mouths. We paid a lot of money for the apartment and amenities and it was really frustrating to never be allowed to have more than two people at a time at the pool. Regardless, we loved this apartment complex. I would just be warned that the pool policy is super strict and kind of unreasonable. read more

This building complex has really gone downhill over the past four years. Originally they said this was "luxury living in south end", and when I first signed my lease I think that was true. However, over the past couple years quality has gone down. In the past six months, I would rate it sub-par. For example: the valet trash (that we all must pay for) hasn't been coming for weeks. I have complained MULTIPLE times. The response from the leasing office is to "call them ourselves" to complain about "specific trash that has not been collected." Ok.... cool..... sounds good, Additionally, parking is really really REALLY bad. They tell you that you have 24/7 access to a lot right by your apartment, but that is a total lie for most people if you come home after 8pm. I come home 9pm most nights, and am parking on the street blocks away because everything is full. The leasing office says that I should just use the lots for other buildings (multiple blocks away). They seem confused about why this is happening (it's obvious - they have tons of college kids cramming 3 people into a 2BR; people also have extra counterfeit passes; entire complex knows this because also you can't get a chair at the pool if you come down after 11:30am in the summer). Enter at your own risk. Only reason I haven't moved is because I can't afford it right now. read more

This apartment complex was nothing short of a nightmare the entire year I was locked into a contract with them. Half of the "resort style living" amenities never happened or even exsisted, and if they did then it was first come, first serve basis based on who checked their email during the day. If you had a normal job and couldn't be on your computer all day, oh well. The people at the front desk were rarely helpful and mostly rude when you needed their help. Don't even think about having a friend or significant other have a key or be able to check on your apartment unless they are a lease holder of your building. My fellow residents and I simply felt lied to the entire time we lived there. What they advertise as the things that make them stand out were none of the things you actually recieve. I am happy to be out since there all ready wasn't enough parking for the current residents or room at the pool, let alone when the hundreds of new residents roll in to the new buildings which just opened. Between being directly off the lightrail where strangers would walk up and knock on my door, to my neighbors being chased down the lightrail when people tried to steal their dog (multiple times), to just blatant lies from the front desk I was pretty miserable during my tenor.
