I'm not exactly sure when the change occurred... The Dollar used to be totally gay, housing three bar areas. Now as you walk in, the front bar now caters to goth-like people. In the back stage area, you will find thrash metal bands playing for kids hurling themselves into each other. Some of it looks painful and is actually quite interesting to watch. The bar to the extreme right as you walk in is still a Tejano gay bar. It's just so weird that two diverse cultures are co-existing under one roof. I'm not saying it's good or bad. Worst place ever! They don't tell you it's cash only to get in. They just tell you there's an atm so once you pay and get in there's only one tiny part of the bar open. Then you try and get a drink and it's cash only too. You try to leave and get a refund when you've been there 3 min and they're like you're already inside so no. Never going again read more

Ok. Well Back in the day this place was called the Silver Chancla ( which is Mexican for Sandal) Because of its level of class. However they have worked diligently to revamp the place and all in all its a a quaint little establishment that has cheap drinks, a little shade and a unique crowd for sure. They have Karaoke, allow smoking, full bar and someone who finds you attractive will most likely send you a drink... because they are less than 2.50.... So bring some pepper spray and a friend and enjoy! Oh and the street tacos outside are tre' yummy! read more

Absolutely love this place. It is my favorite gay bar in all of Texas and proud to say its in my hometown of San Antonio. Great margaritas and the best Tejano music! People are very friendly too and the drag shows can be fun! read more

On Tuesdays They have 1.25 Miller beer,Bud-ice,And Lonestar Tallboys!! 2.00 Pickle and Chamoy shots,2.50 Coronas and wells... The music was to die for... It was retro,electro...dance.We had a great time with dj just angel,dantes prayer,and infekktion... I recommend it for the cheap drinks,and great music... Tuesdays....Decades! read more

This was not the "gay country bar" I had in my head. To start, this is a large venue broken up into multiple rooms with each room having a bar. It's very easy to get twisted around in this place. The staff was professional and friendly. It had a very relaxed atmosphere. There were security guards walking through the venue. There is a large room in the back with a stage for performances. And then there is another large room in the back for dancing. The bathrooms weren't the best but your not going to find 5-star bathrooms in a venue like this. On this particular night that I went (Saturday), there was a drag show in the stage room, and then there was Tejano music playing in the dancing room. I would say there were as many gays that there were straights in this place, with a majority of the straights being female, mostly dancing in the dance room. Did I see any "cowboys" here? Half dozen, if that....but that's mostly because of the local gay rodeo association having an event that night. I came looking for a gay country bar (comparing it to the likes of Midnight Rodeo). Did I find it here? No. Should this place be reclassified on other gay listing sites? Yes. This is NOT a gay country bar. For what it is, for those looking for this kind of place, I think they would have a great time here. read more

This is the most disgusting bar I have ever been in. Extremely dirty and unsanitary. I always feel like I have to scrub myself down with bleach when I get home. The restrooms always smell like urine and are never clean as well as no hand soap or paper towels. How about the three dueling DJ's. The three of them have the volume up so loud you cannot hear yourself think. Just horrible. I walk outside with ringing ears. read more
