We were here last week and rented a Teryx for a couple of hours. It had a lot of power and no problem making it up test hill! Anyone sitting in the the back seats will get bumped around a whole lot more then the front so go easy if you've got kids especially over the clams (the bumps before and after the hills). They are also quite loud so if your kids are sensitive bring some ear plugs or cotton balls for them. A full sized cooler is attached in the back (you can bring anything except alcohol). If you rent for at least 2 hours, it's a nice break to park your buggy by Lake Michigan and have lunch. There are only a couple of picnic tables so bring a few towels with you. Wear a bathing suit underneath so you can take a swim. The water was clean, clear and warm enough to want to jump in. I am very disappointed with the way they handled our reservation. It was cancelled due to inclement weather, when they pushed us back weather didn't clear, we then said our schedule wouldn't allow us to be pushed back further. They refunded pet of the deposit but charged us a 10% cancellation fee to cover their "credit card usage" charges. Had they handled it differently I would have been back. I will take my business elsewhere on our next trip. read more

I usually rent a quad or buggy. It might be a little expensive for some, about $130 for a 3 hour quad rental or $220 for a 3 hour buggy rental. Prices vary by length of time. Staff here is very friendly at the desk and in the shop. One of the guys I was with flipped a quad and damaged the steering alignment and cracked the plastic cover on the steering wheel. When I saw the bill for the damage it was only $30. They said all it needed was an adjustment and they zip tied the cracked panel. Anywhere else would have charged in the hundreds. Their shop is also very reasonable if you need some kind of mechanical work done. They welded a broken piece of metal on my jet ski trailer for $5 and it took about 1/2 an hour. I would recommend this place before the other rental places in the area and I believe in 2010 they're suppose to get a new fleet of quads. See you guys next year. read more

Great place to rent from. We rented the dune buggy and had never been put on the dunes before. We didn't pay for a guide but Mark (m2), showed us around so we would know where to go. We did get stuck once but Mark came over and helped us out. Great place and we would definitely go back. read more

Had a great experience with this rental company over the weekend renting 2 2-seater buggies. They were very friendly and even were giving out water since it was a really hot day. If I had to do it over again I would do the Teryx since the 2 seater buggies do not have reverse or as much power. Definitely worth the trip up to Silver Lake. read more

The overall customer service was pretty good. I booked a dune buggy for a rental, I think they should be more open with how powerful their equipment actually is. If I knew that equipment wasn't power full enough to actually go up the dunes I wouldn't have rented it. They have some more powerful options that are more money but worth it. read more

We rented two person buggies, we had no idea that they have very little power or that they have no reverse gear. It was very difficult to climb hills without getting stuck. They are also very loud and pretty uncomfortable. It was hot and dirty too. The rate of $120.00 per hour is very expensive. The dunes would be a lot more enjoyable with more powerful and refined vehicles. This review gets one extra star because of L Michigan and the dunes area. It's an unusual environment and definitely worth experiencing in a different vehicle. read more

First time at silver lake and after reading positive reviews on this place we decided to rent from here. Everyone is super friendly and helpful. Rented the 2 seater dune buggy and while my sis and I had a blast, I would probably think twice of renting the buggy again. There's not much power nor does it have reverse so if you're trying this out, just know that you'll most likely get stuck once or twice. We got stuck three times but thank goodness there are 1) good Samaritans and 2) the staff that was on the dunes to help tow us out! Overall, we went on a day with PERFECT weather and wasn't too busy. While the prices are really spendy, I would still recommend this place! read more

We had a great time renting a buggy from them. We originally booked a 2 hour ride but t storm was coming in so they suggested we shorten it to 90 minutes. Father and son rented 2-seater together to head out to the dunes. Pros - Much fun!, equipment was reliable, friendly and helpful (once you get there, didn't feel like it on the phone), staff gave good advice Cons - Pricey, phone etiquette issues...the fellow accidentally hung up on us once and forgot we were on hold the second time we called Tip - If you're renting a buggy here know it's low to the ground...a handkerchief to wrap around your face to keep out the sand will be handy Would we do it again? Probably...everyone should do this at least once, lot of fun. read more

My wife and I went out in a two seater buggy. They are a little lacking in power but obviously renting at this price doesn't command high performance standards. We got stuck once before we realized how to handle it properly. We listened to our instructor and made sure we built a ton of speed before attempting a climb, and held the throttle to the floor most of our time out. We tore things up pretty good and it was a rough ride. It was a lot of fun! Two hours was plenty for us, I could see doing longer if you wanted to take things easy. There is a ton of people watching you can do and some of the vehicles are impressive and hilarious. The dunes can bring in the confederate flag wavers, if that sort of thing offends you, don't worry I think it's just for attention. All in all, it was a great time beating around a beater buggy. Next time I would like to try something with a little more power. read more

This was our first time renting and I was not impressed. First of all, the staff inside are completely rude if you aren't there 45 mins ahead of time. If they want you there THAT early, they need to schedule your pickup for that time. Dani was unknowledgeable and unprofessional. Secondly, they make you take a 15 minute tour of the dunes that CUTS into your paid riding time. I thought ok whatever but no big deal. Then they expect you back 15 minutes early to turn your buggy in. That's an entire 30 minutes that you paid for that they take away and when I'm spending $620 for a 4 hour buggy ride, I want my money's worth. Wild bill's is a lot more popular and reputable and I would've rather rented from them. I will say, the man who rides around the dunes with fuel was very nice and so was Chris, the guy who brought us to and from the dunes. The overall quality of the buggy was good, it was good on gas and was a smooth ride for the type of vehicle. read more

Amazing! Friendly and helpful staff, wonderful experience! My girlfriend and I were a little hesitant because of the price, but it was totally worth it! Definitely get some eye protection. If you have sunglasses that wrap close to your face, that will suffice. Also, we rented the 4-seater buggy because we would have had to wait 2 hours to get a 2-seater buggy. I'm not sure how the 2-seater buggys ride, but it was worth it for us to have the 4-seater buggy out there. The 4-seater has a reverse gear which can get you out of some jams. The 2-seater does not have reverse. read more

Please don't waste your money renting here. One of my girlfriends made a spur of the moment trip up this past weekend so we decided to head to the dunes. We stopped in to rent a 4 person dune buggy, but due to being last minute, we settled for 2 two person buggies. The young lady at the rental desk was friendly, but the rest of the staff was short tempered and appeared quite annoyed with us "tourists". When I was asking about the difference in rentals, no one mentioned the two person dune buggies have almost no power. I am not a dune buggy expert having only driven friend's buggies 5 or 6 times, but I expected my buggy to have more power than a go cart at Craig's Cruisers. When entering the dunes, I was driving pedal to the metal and barely made it in the park. We tried going up the very end (smallest incline) of Test Hill and immediately got stuck. We spent the next hour on the flat areas of the park and attempting small hills until we eventually turned the vehicles in almost an hour early. If you want to be able to climb hills and keep up with traffic on the dunes, do yourself a favor and rent a jeep instead. read more

For our 1st time ever on the Dunes & in a dune buggy, this was a great experience! Not to mention that we're in the "sunset years"! We felt we were given good service, instruction & treated with respect. I would recommend this business! We should have brought scarves or bandanas for keeping the sand off our faces, but they do sell them there, if you forget to bring them...we just didn't know how helpful they would have been. They DO offer helmets, free of charge & you should definitely wear one! We enjoyed being together in the 4-seater, called the Teryx and it handled very well, even though we DID get stuck once on a steep dune. The good news about that was the wonderful guys that showed up almost immediately to help pull us out of the rut we'd dug for ourselves!!! Very unhappy with their Phone etiquette. These guys have one 2 ATVs with them and they din't mention it anywhere on the website. We are a party of 5 and we wanted to do this as a part of a celebration. 2 of them booked the ATVs for a time slot we wanted and the rest 3 of us could not book after they did. It has blocked all the time slots around the time slot our friends chose. I called the Rentals and asked them what we could do and they suggest me to take another bigger vehicle that will accomodate the other 3. All of us wanted the ATVs only. So I had asked them to cancel the reservation as all 5 of us wanted to go at the same time and they gave me a 90% refund only. I told them that they did not mention it anywhere that they have only 2 ATVs and that they should give us full refund but these guys were very rude on the phone and were not of any help. I am not going to book with these guys anytime ever for their worst customer service. read more
