A previous dentist I went to took several x-rays and said I had 2 fractured teeth and 3 cavities that needed to be taken care of. I wasn't given a cleaning and couldn't get on the schedule until 4 months later! But he wanted to do the dental work right away! I didn't reschedule and boy am I glad! Also, my pediatric dentist had been a real piece of work, so it left me always very uncomfortable and apprehensive with dentists. I relayed this experience and how it made me feel to them and they seemed incredibly unconcerned. They did discover I in fact had a number of problems and would require a lot of work. First, however, they referred me to an oral surgeon to take my wisdom teeth out, as that was the most pressing issue, as well as schedule a follow-up for after the surgery. Unfortunately, my work schedule changed and I had to cancel the follow-up. I asked that they call me back closer to the end of the project I was working on to reschedule, and they never did. I have tried off and on to get back in, leaving messages on the phone, and they have gone unreturned. A little more than a week ago, I started having some pain in my lower jaw, so I called in again and left another message, which went unreturned. Then again yesterday, and it was unreturned. I called today and finally got someone who picked up, explained the situation, and the earliest they could get me in was in 2 days. I asked why my calls hadn't been returned and was told very rudely that they had been on vacation for 2 weeks. This information was not on their voicemail service. Ultimately, I found another dentist that took our insurance, who happened to be one that had seen me on an emergency previously, and they were able to get me in sooner, so I canceled with Dr. Cloninger. The doctors in this office may be very competent, but I wouldn't know. I never got the chance to actually experience their care beyond an evaluation because the office staff was so rude, disorganized, and completely lacked any empathy. This poor management is a reflection of the doctor/provider themselves and erodes trust with the patient. My wife has been a patient with them for about 12 years, and I'm going to encourage her to find care elsewhere as well.

I sought this office specifically because I have significant dental trauma from past procedures where I was drilled without adequate numbing and told to "man up" while in pain. I have extensive dental work that needs to be done, which is exactly why I sought sleep dentistry. After the exam, I was told I did not qualify for sleep dentistry, not based on any anesthesia evaluation or airway assessment. The anesthesiologist refused to come see me or consider my case, and instead the office manager was sent in to deliver the decision. The only options offered were standard local numbing or nitrous (laughing gas). As an autistic adult, these options do not work for me. I have severe anxiety related to needles and the sound of the drill, which the office was made aware of. No meaningful alternatives were discussed, and no referral for hospital-based anesthesia was offered. To make matters worse, I was casually told to "go to my primary and get on Ozempic," which was completely inappropriate, unrelated to dental care, and dismissive rather than compassionate. On the financial side, I have had Delta Dental insurance for nearly two years, yet the office's financial representative told me I would need to wait another seven months before receiving any care, which made no sense given the length of time I've already been insured. If you advertise sleep dentistry and trauma-informed care, patients should not: * drive long distances only to be turned away * be denied an anesthesiologist consult * be offered only basic numbing despite documented trauma * be given weight-loss medication suggestions instead of care options * receive contradictory or inaccurate insurance information I came here seeking treatment, safety, and understanding. I left without care, without solutions, and deeply disappointed after investing significant time, travel, and trust.

The hygienist, Nikki, was the most sweet and caring person and made my first appointment incredible. She was very kind and explained the entire process to me, what she saw on the monitor, and why the treatment plan was recommended with opportunity for me to change if I wanted to. Dr.Derek was very nice as well and both were sensitive about my oral history as well as genuine with how we will move forward. This office puts every other dentist I've ever had to shame because Dr.C's office has the most competent and knowledgeable crew you will find in Washington.
