Loved the freshly made ice cream! Decided to stop by here after having lunch at Firehouse Brewery a block away and it was such a "sweet" ending. I ended up building my own sundae since I couldn't decide on what I really wanted. The Lemon Chiffon was so delightful and refreshing and the strawberry flavor was such a classic hit. I loved the patio space along with the quaint and like-new developed entertainment area in the heart of downtown. The next time I visit Rapid City, I'll be sure to stop by again. read more

Very good ice cream made fresh on the premises. There were 12 flavors--from the sign I think that's the norm. We had S'mores, chocolate, cotton candy and watermelon-cucumber-lemon sorbet. All of the flavors tasted very good, including the three or four tastes we got before deciding what to order. Portion sizes were decent, and the price was good. Three 1-scoop cups and one 2-scoop cup cost us $13.50 with tax. I'd definitely stop here again if in the area. read more

A great reason to come downtown. We got the "hot chocolate" flavor in place of actual hot chocolate and it was plenty good enough to make it worth the struggle during the cold. Great little spot with wonderful flavors. We stopped during COVID and couldn't go in but enjoyed ordering from the window. The scoops are generous, super tasty and come with little wooden spoons. We really enjoyed this place and would come back for sure. Of the places we have had ice cream in the Black Hills this spot takes first place as the best. If you're looking for unexpected ice cream flavors, I highly recommend this place! They also have the standard flavors as well. They change their flavors often and are always coming up with something creative. I personally got the cantaloupe flavor (delicious!!), my mom got the cucumber, watermelon, and lime sorbet (perfect for a hot summer night!), and my dad got the "Merica" flavor which was blue raspberry, vanilla, and cherry (kind of tasted like cotton candy when mixed!). On a sunny Saturday afternoon, we swung past 'A Taste of South Dakota' in the main square of Rapid City. This small festival promotes local businesses in an afternoon of food and music for the locals. Front and centre of the action was The Silver Lining Creamery, with quite a queue. Despite the fact that we had consumed a rather large Indian Taco only a few hours before, we joined the queue to get our ice cream fix. The creamery makes small batch flavours in an ever-changing selection. That afternoon amongst others there was Loaded PB Cup, Huckleberry, standard Pumpkin, Candy Corn, Maple Bacon, Pina Colada and good old Vanilla. There was also a special Pumpkin Pie flavour with 'a whole piece of pie in every cone'. Hilariously, I had seen a review of Silver Lining, complaining that there were not enough flavours. They may not have 31 flavours but what they lack in quantity they more than make up for with quality. I had the urge to pair vibrant orange Pumpkin with bright purple Huckleberry as an aesthetically pleasing Autumnal tribute, but in the end I matched Pumpkin with Saltie Sailor. The Pumpkin was curious as it was most certainly made from canned pumpkin, given the only fresh pumpkins available were hard, flavourless monsters sold for carving and decoration. I closed my eyes and tried to taste the pumpkin but the cinnamon kept getting in the way. Tasting the non billed cinnamon reminded me of a recent article I had read about pumpkin spice not containing pumpkin. It was tasty enough but perhaps I should have gone the whole hog and opted for the Pumpkin Pie. The Saltie Sailor was a mix of caramel ice cream, graham crackers and pretzels. Delish! and at $3 for 2 scoops - quite a bargain. Finally, an ice cream vendor who takes their responsibilities to the travelling public seriously. read more

This is the place to go on a hot summer's day in Rapid City. The service is incredibly friendly and quick, even when the line is around the corner. They regularly change flavors, so what they have today may be out tomorrow. Good selection of toppings (get the brownie!) and fair prices. Will def return. read more

Cute little ice cream parlor that reportedly makes its own ice cream in small batches. The selection changes daily and there are usually 8 or so to choose from. Traditional flavors such as vanilla, chocolate, and strawberry..... as well as some unique ones like honey comb, turtle sundae, and huckleberry and cream. There are also a whole bunch of candy toppings. The line moves kind of slowly as the people working behind the counter don't seem to have a real system. I wanted a strawberry sundae, but they were out of strawberries. Odd! I wasn't too disappointed when I saw that the whipped cream wasn't real, but rather the stuff that squirts out of a can. I ended up getting a single scoop of cookies and cream. It was fine. Not great. Not terrible. But, honestly no better or worse than the supermarket stuff that I can buy in a half gallon container and scoop at home. Not super creamy. No exceptional cookie bits. Eaten yes. Theee stars because it's made in house. Otherwise... flavors were underwhelming. Blood orange had zero tang (tasted more like a muted dreamsicle), and the vanilla bean was missing the bean. Tasted like DQ vanilla. Nice thought, but the flavors need to be developed more. Nice staff. read more

An overrated ice cream spot. Stopped by during covid season. Ice cream is not rich and starts melting as soon as they hand it to you. Limited flavors and cheap cones. Definitely over priced for ice cream you could easily get at a gas station or grocery store. read more

Absolutely love their homemade waffle cones, but the ice cream is too much sugar, not enough flavor for my taste. I wish I could just buy the cone and put my own ice cream in it! Just a personal preference, I suspect - a lot of people seem to really like it. Another issue I have with Silver Lining is that they don't offer anything smaller than two scoops. Okay, yes, you can get just one, but you still have to pay for two scoops. What if you have a small child, or you're trying to make up for past indulgences by limiting the calories a little bit (story of my life)? They should really let people buy a smaller size. read more

In Rapid City for the night. Took a stroll. The shop is on a Town Square with fountains, a play area, and tables. The fountains were alternating many colors as the water sprayed up into the air. This creamery makes absolutely delicious ice cream, and they have fun flavors such as lavender honey and birthday extreme, as well as classics like chocolate, vanilla, and cookie dough. I got lavender honey, and it tasted exactly like lavender and honey! We could not go inside due to Covid-19, but we ordered from a window and ate it on a bench on the grass next to the shop. This is fresh made ice cream and not very sweet. It's a cute little shop and huge scoops. We ordered a medium with two scoops with hot mango and green tea ice cream. I love that the ice cream is actually creamy. You can sit outside. There's plenty of outdoor seating. Definitely get your dessert fix here after eating in downtown! read more

The cashier said "We are not making shakes," but I think they had just cleaned the machine 20 minutes before closing and didn't want to clean it again. Bad service. I would not go there again. AMAZING ice cream! Such a delight to order from here. Very few complaints. One is that I was a little confused walking in at first as to where the line started and how we were supposed to order. Little overwhelming. Didn't think much of the krusteze bags that were clearly visible. Made me sad since I thought they did homemade comes and bowls however it's still very tasty and I love the variety and you will never be bored. Also, the mustache spoons are a fun quirk to add! Reminds me of when I used to make my own ice cream. The little lady behind the counter told me they use a very high cream mixture to make this and I really believe her! Picked Burch Beer single for my hubby and strawberry/vanilla double for me. Not a single ice crystal in this vanilla for sure. Highly disappointed. Tried this place based on other reviews, but we would not return. They list oodles of ice cream flavors but only offer about 8. None of the available choices were too exciting. I would have loved to have had something with peanut butter or a candy or coffee flavor, but the choices were limited to caramel apple, chocolate, vanilla, cheesecake, strawberry, cotton candy, butter pecan, cookies and cream, and two sorbets. We tried several and did not like most of them. The Cookies and Cream was creamy but only tasted so-so. They do not fill the dishes full either, which was a large disappointment. read more

my boyfriend had this spot in mind for our recent trip to rapid city. it was a wonderful delight. the shop itself is small, and they only have about ten or twelve flavors on rotation at any given time. in addition to the ice cream, there are also a few sorbets, as well as chocolate and vanilla soft serve. tonight, he went with a banana bread sundae topped with hot fudge, while i opted for the bangkok fire with hot fudge and whipped cream. the banana bread was perfect- rich, sweet, and banana-y without being cloying or artificial. the bread flavor (thanks to actual chunks of banana bread) came through really well. my bangkok fire was a coconut base with just a hint of sriracha that i could feel tickle the back of my throat at the end of each bite. this flavor is perfect for those who are adventurous, and looking for something a little different. service was friendly and accommodating. we would definitely come back on another trip in the future. read more

My husband and I stopped in for a sweet and cold treat after dinner. I got two scoops of strawberry ice cream in a waffle cone, and my husband had a scoop of pistachio and a scoop of strawberry. The ice cream was tasty and it was obvious that a lot of time and effort had gone into making it good. I will say my waffle cone was a little stale. This was slightly disappointing, as I enjoy eating it along with the ice cream. However, the facility was clean and nice with colorful walls and great atmosphere and plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. Overall a good dessert experience! read more

AMAZING!!! I know there are a lot of places to get ice cream and really when was the last time you ran into ice cream you didnt like, but really this place is fantastic. We were in Rapid City as many are as our jump off to Mt Rushmore and make special trips to silver lining 2 nights in a row. Made fresh in store daily, silver lining has interesting flavors (hot mango) and classics. I tried the key lime and banana and it's the easily the best of both flavors I've had. Cherry on top, the decor and staff are lovely. How I'll go back I'll never know but I sure am glad I got to go twice. read more

Almost missed this place as it's actually not on Main St but on the west side of the 512 building, off the alley. Excellent hot fudge! But the coffee ice cream could have had more coffee flavor. Very clean place with friendly service. read more
