I knew very little about nose piercings when I decided to get my nose pierced. My bad for not doing more research first. I chose Silver Safari because it had good reviews and I read how sterile their environment was. I thought I was making an informed choice. Well let me tell you I have gained quite the education and experience (sadly) since then. My nose was pierced at Silver Safari 5 months ago. The first month my nose was so swollen and infected, I ended up in Urgent Care an had to spend one month sleeping upright in bed or my nose would swell so big it would engulf my piercing. I chose to stick it out and wait for it to heal. It was literally my life (cleaning, soaking, protecting - I did everything I was told to do and did it fastidiously) for several months. It would be red and swell up, a bubble would form often leading to blood and puss, and the inside of my nose was swollen. When my nose did calm down, it was for about a day and then it would flare up again. I went into Silver Safari several times to ask for advice. They always said, it's fine, you're probably allergic to the jewelry and they offered to change it out . They also said changing it would cause more irritation, it's better to leave it in if you can. So, yes, there was little clear direction. I felt they were covering their backsides by not having much to say....or they were ignorant. Turns out it was both. Five months after the piercing I was finally beginning to have less flare-ups and not as severe, but my nose was still red and irritated (and swollen) far more than it was not. Over the course of these months I did my research, albeit later than I should have, and made my own conclusions/decisions. I researched jewelry. I was pierced with surgical steel. Sounds safe. Well, a lot of this jewelry is coming from China where standards for 'surgical' are not as high of standards as US surgical steel. This is also true for titanium and gold as well. I'm told S.Safari's piercing studs are from China, which is not uncommon. After finding a jewelry company I trusted (BVLA Body Jewelry) I found a retailer in Spokane. MOM'S TATTOO. Yes, part of my education was learning that tatoo shops (at least reputable ones) can be a far better bet than 'mall piercing stores'. Why? More education. More training. More experience. Note: They need to be certified with APP (Association of American Piercers). Mom's Tatoo is the only certified piercing studio in Spokane area. The peircers have had a minimum of one year of education/training before becoming piercers. I have been told that Silver Safari piercers may have had as little as three months. At Mom's, they also have an autoclave (sterilizer) that your jewelry is run through and then tested for spores right before piercing. The piercing room resembles more of a doctor's office; it's clean, sterile, and very professional. So, what was the real problem with my nose? Why did I have such a reaction that took (and was still taking) so long to heal? It was pierced wrong. When a piercing is done (in the nose), it should be angled to match the shape/angle of the nose which is obviously different on every person. The goal is to pierce through the least amount of flesh. The piercer at Silver Safari pierced directly straight into my nose. The amount of flesh the piercing went through is double what it should have been. THIS was the main reason for my unnecessary suffering. I was also reacting to the cheaper metals. As well as the type of jewelry. A nose screw is not for everyone, the screw was causing irritation on the inside of my nose. I was also told I was pierced with 18 gauge, turns out it was 20 gauge. I now have a U.S. made titanium, a jewelry post that is minimal (a labret post - which Silver Safari does not offer), it's the correct size for a septum (nose) piercing, and my nose is much happier...so am I! After having to be stretched to an 18 gauge and changing out the jewelry, I thought I was in for a big reaction and assumed I would get the bubble again. I didn't. Between proper sterilization, fitting, and quality jewelry, I actually had a NORMAL response. I will always be a bit bothered by the fact that my nose was not pierced at the correct angle but since I only want to wear small gems, I don't need to start over by healing the piercing and eventually repiercing. If I wanted to wear other types of jewelry though, I would have issues with the jewelry laying flat against my nose. I hope that this long review causes you to do your research and make sound decisions so that you do not experience the long, miserable and time-consuming healing process I went through. If you are in the Spokane area, I highly recommend Mom's. That is the only place I will go for now on. If you are out of the area, be sure your piercer is certified through APP. They go beyond state level requirements to offer you the most educated, professional service possible and you'll be much happier with the results! read more

Absolutely fantastic place! I've had my earlobes pierced here as a kid and several other piercings done since, not to mention all the beautiful jewelry I've purchased from them! The people here know what they're doing, they're super friendly, they use modern techniques and safety practices that help better prevent any cross-contamination and send you out with a cleaner piercing overall, and they have private piercing rooms so no matter what kind of piercing you're receiving, it will be in a quiet calm and safe environment. A word of caution though, do *not* get this confused with the Silver Safari in the Northtown Mall which is owned by someone different, the one in Northtown is an overpriced garbage dump full of rude people compared to this one. read more

TERRIBLE!!! These people have no formal training, and as far as the comment above, you did not have to get painfully re-pierced! That is a huge NO-NO on the Piercers part! I used to work in the industry of tattooing and piercing and left to work in the hospital....this place might not look scary....BUT IT IS NOT CLEAN!!!! Beware!!!
