Good for families. Living in white marsh - your choices for fine dining are limited unless you want to go into the city. For those of you with kids there is no better choice than Silver Spring. So I've been coming to Silver Spring from time to time for quite a few years. Its never been a place that I frequent, but I pop in from time to time for a quick bite. All of that changed on Saturday. This is no longer a place that I'll drop in for a quick bite with my husband, this is a place that I will be frequenting from now on. We saw that the renovations were finished so we stopped in to see how everything looked and grab a drink. One word: AMAZING! They took this neighborhood restaurant and made it into the nicest restaurant in the area. The renovations look fantastic and they've upgraded the quality of the food to match. The service has never been anything to write home about, but I think they must have done something to fix that. We sat at the new bar upstairs (that's actually a real bar now and not that tiny awkward place to sit) and had some of the best service I can remember. The two bartenders were a tall guy with a beard and a shorter guy, I want to say their names were Evan and Kevin but that could easily be Devin and Kevin, or Devin and Evan. It's tough to remember when names are that similar!! But they were both incredibly friendly, knowledgeable, and very funny. The tall guy introduced himself to us and as soon he noticed me looking at the wines that they have on tap(!) he was quick to ask what kind of wine I like. I like wine, but don't really know a lot about it, so he was quick to suggest one for me. It was delicious, he told me that it was from the Francis Ford Coppola winery, but I don't remember exactly what it was. My husband asked about draft beers and he immediately recommended one of the local microbrews on tap, which he told us was his favorite beer that they had on tap. My husband LOVED it, he actually asked him to write down what it was so that he could look for it the next time we went to the liquor store. The menu is pretty different than it used to be, and the reason I gave four stars is because of the prices. The prices have gone up quite a bit, and there are a lot of different things on the menu now, but it seems like the food is a lot higher quality than it used to be. The bartender told us about all of the beef being very high quality because its all no hormone, no steroid type stuff which is good, but neither my husband nor myself are big beef people. We wound up ordering the Asian scallops as an appetizer. Do yourself a favor and order them, they're incredible. I ordered the seafood salad and my husband ordered the Kent narrows chicken at the bartender's recommendation. I loved the seafood salad, but I was more annoyed that I didn't order what my husband ordered. The Kent narrows that my husband ordered opened my eyes to why everything was more expensive than I remember. This place gets 5 stars from my husband and I on service, food, and drink, the prices bring it down to rating it four stars for us, (though we had no problem whatsoever paying what we did for the service we received and the quality of the food and drink!) I think the only issue is that they are still trying to be a "family restaurant." If you want to promote five star food, drink, and service, gear yourself toward people who want to enjoy a nice dinner and cocktail in an upscale atmosphere. I understand the negative reviews of the "new" Silver Spring, but I think those people have just had the wrong people serving them. Silver Spring used to be one of my favorite places to go out to relax, eat, and enjoy myself. My boyfriend and I have been using Silver Spring for our date nights for 2 years. We have always enjoyed the staff, and interacted with some great servers in the past. Several of them would remember our faces and were always happy to see us again. When they closed the upstairs for renovations, we had been looking forward to the re-opening and the addition of the upstairs bar. It seems the renovations have taken quite some time, but after much waiting, I heard they had reopened. We decided to take his mother our for her birthday and chose Silver Spring expecting the same friendly service and good food we typically enjoy. Unfortunately, that was not the case. We were actually in for one of the most disappointing experiences I have ever had in a restaurant. As someone who works as a restaurant manager, I am typically very sympathetic and understanding, especially with so many new changes...however this was an experience I was extremely upset with. We were greeted, and seated pleasantly and quickly. The server, Justin, accepted our drink order and brought them out quickly. He did all of this happily and quickly. My first disappointment came with the new POS/Ordering system they have placed into effect. The severs now take your order on a small cellphone, about the size of an iPhone. I have never experienced a more impersonal method of taking a guests order. You may as well install the self-order POS that WaWa or Royal Farms uses, I would rather place the order myself than watch my server standing at my table squinting at a cell phone. Perhaps if it was an iPad, with a scrolling visual of the specials or something larger, I would be more inclined to appreciate technology at the table. Coming from someone who works in the service industry a manager, this was extremely disappointing and felt very rude. With the new renovations, they changed the layout of the whole floor upstairs, and the kitchen area is no longer around a corner, and is plain view of several tables. The table we happened to be placed at had a direct view into the kitchen. My boyfriend and I watched a line cook eat directly off of a plate that was waiting in the food window to go out to a table. (A big no-no!!) The kitchen was very clearly disorganized and struggling with the new system. We watched our food sit in the window for about 15 minutes before it came to our table. At this point we weren't even sure we wanted to eat it after watching the kitchen staff being so careless with food placement in the window, touching so many things without ever changing their gloves and of course the hungry fellow on the line. It took the server quite a while to come back to the table to see how are food was. I ordered a filet mignon, and was rewarded with the driest, most tasteless steak I have ever eaten. I also did not receive the gravy I ordered with my mashed potatoes until I asked for it. Silver Spring has also always presented the table with the dessert tray when they offer it to you...not the case this time. Instead the server just casually rattled off the choices to us. The kicker--- After reviewing our check, we noticed they charged us $0.89 for the side of gravy, which is supposed to come with the mashed potatoes. My filet entree was $30!!! After mentioning it to the server, he explained that "My general manager told me to charge that." $0.89 is nothing to me. I have that floating around in my cup holder. But the principal of charging for gravy on an item that comes with it and a $30 entree is ridiculous!! This will likely be the last time I will ever return to a restaurant that I have long considered a favorite hangout. read more

I love this place! I recently ate dinner in the newly remodeled dining room, it was simply fabulous. From the minute I walked in the door, everything was perfect. The hostesses were so nice and informed us that our party of 6 would be seated very shortly, which it was. Our server was also great. she was funny and made everyone feel right at home. She told us about the specials which all sounded delicious. We ended up sharing a pitcher of the home made white peach sangria which is amazing! We started out with the steamed muscles, crab pretzel, and asian scallops. The scallops were amazing, the muscles were fresh and delicious and the crab pretzel was great as always! I ended up ordering shrimp scampi. It was amazing! it was cooked with HUGE shrimp instead of just the medium sized shrimp that they used to use. It is very clear that they are using better products now. The rest of my party also loved their meals. My sister got the stuffed prawns which looked AMAZING. A few other people got the sour beef and dumplings which they said was delicious as always. Overall I am so pleased with the atmosphere, new menu, and service! I am so glad they updated. The menu offers a great variety using great products! I am totally willing to spend a little bit more if I will be eating fresh, large shrimp, instead of little mushy ones. Nothing special. Food seems a bit overpriced. Fiancé had bison burger which was good but none of the burgers came with cheese that was all extra which is strange. I had turkey Reubens it was decent. I went there yesterday. The food was good, but the shining star of this place is Yvette the waitress. She is the most amazing server I have EVER had !! Her overall demeanor is perfect. She is a very warm person. She guides you to things that you didn't even know that you wanted or needed. She is what made this visit fabulous. I called for a takeout order. The hostess transferred me to the kitchen and a very rude man answered. I told him I wanted to place an order for takeout. He abruptly told me to call the hostess. I told him did and she must have transferred me to the kitchen. His response was "you are on line 1." Um, ok that doesn't mean anything to me. "Call the hostess." And then he hung up the phone. Haven't been there in years and after having dinner there last night, I remember why. Drinks were weak, portions small and not very clean. The menus had a slimy feel to them as if they were cleaned with the same rag they clean the floors with. The table clothes are plastic, but yet they charge more then other local restaurants. Missy served our table last night , we were a party of ten under reservation harmon . It was me and my brothers birthday. They sang hapoy birthday to us. The food was excellent. Missy was a great server, very kind and courteous. We took the receipt so missy almost lost out on her tip. They called us and we aithorized it over the phone. Can't really say anything bad about this place. They have good food, good service, and you usually don't have to wait long for a table. They have a downstairs bar, which is quaint. Ordered a drink for my wife and myself then ordered our dinner .At 6:15 the waitress came back and told us that the kitchen computer was acting up and our food would be ready shortly.finally at 6:40 after seeing two other tables get their dinner we paid for our drinks and left. I attended dinner last night with some friends, hoping to enjoy a relaxing and satisfying dinner, but let me tell you, that our experience was absolutely terrible!! We sat in the downstairs bar area, being worked by a male and female bartender - her name is on our receipt, but I'll spare her the direct embarrassment. Her service was an absolute joke. After ordering our initial drinks, I never received another water - thankfully we had some extras at the table otherwise I would have never gotten beyond my first water. About 30 minutes after ordering our one appetizer and two soups, our waitress was nowhere to be found. I tracked down the male bartender, who checked on our food, which finally came out about 10 minutes later. The food order then took at least another 40 minutes to arrive - and only included 3 of the 4 meals. When asked if the 4th meal was coming our waitress said 'I'll go check on it' - after that, we never saw her again. When the 4th meal arrived by service of a food runner, we asked her for an extra cup of sour cream - we never saw that food runner again. I had to track down the male bartender again, who could clearly see we were upset, because we were missing a side dish of broccoli and the cup of sour cream. When he brought those items, he offered a 'shot of jack' to make our evening better and apologized for the poor service. I flat out told him the experience was terrible, and he apologized again by stating that the kitchen was really busy because of a fundraiser taking place within the restaurant, and that he was making milkshakes for kids all evening - who were running around and screaming through the bar. After we were done eating, I tracked the male bartender down yet again to get our check. I understand that restaurants get busy from time to time, but it's not my problem nor do I want to hear your excuses about why I sat in a restaurant for over 2 hours for dinner for a party of 4. If you were hosting a fundraiser, then you should have staffed appropriately to accommodate a larger crowd. The service was absolutely terrible. The male bartender clearly recognized that we were dissatisfied and attempted to make a joke about free alcohol to make us feel better. We never saw our waitress after she brought 3 of our 4 meals, the food was cold and overcooked, and 2 of our guests never received the dessert included in their 3-course meal. Horrible service. I sat in the bar downstairs and the bartender was extremely rude and unprofessional. The bar scene was dingy and run down. Over priced food and drinks. I'm pretty sure the bartender was drunk because she was slurring her words. Her name was Ashley. She explained to me that she had worked there for so long the management just lets her do whatever she wants. Obviously this included getting completely wasted. We should have walked out when they told me they were out of Stella on a 3-day weekend. I got over that and ordered a diet coke. Everything went downhill from there. My husband and I ordered burgers, mine rare and his med. rare. We both ordered onion rings. My husband got a large burger that covered the bun and mine sat in the middle like I ordered a child size burger on a big person bun. Both were well done, which I hate. When I pointed it out to the waitress, she made no comment and never returned to the table. The onion rings used to be excellent here, but these were luke-warm, over-cooked and tasted more like grease and the breading than onion. The onion was so mushy it was like they used reconstituted onions. When I returned from the ladies room and walked by the server, she made no comment and wouldn't meet my eyes. So, here's the deal, crappy food, no Stella, bad service and worse, when I pointed out that the burger wasn't cooked correctly, the waitress should have followed up with the manager. We recently visited the bel air location. Food was ok. Services was ok. (kind of slow) for 5:00 on a wednesday. When they brought our check we discovered that we had been over charged. I stayed behind to try to get the issue resolved while my husband took our children out to the car. After arguing with the manager for about 20 minutes, he still did not get it! My husband returned and went over the issue with the check once and suddenly, the manager sees that I was correct all along! Why was it such an issue when he was dealing w/me, a woman? and it took less than 5 minutes to resolve with my husband? The manager asked if we wanted a gift ceritficate for the over charged amount or did we want our money back. I elected to have my money back because I most definately will never return after the way I was treated! Not only was my time wasted that night, now I have to waste more of my time trying to reverse the authorization for the incorrect amount ($95.62) I understand that mistakes do happen but the way the manager handled the issue was all wrong! read more
