I was in town and we picked a spot to meet. The parking lot was pretty full but once inside, it didn't seem that crowded. There are many areas to sit- inside or outside, with bar so perhaps that's why. The service was great. I had a chicken quesadilla with mashed potatoes which was very tasty. It was around 830p with a closing time of 10p. In hindsight I may have asked that they not clean/sweep in the adjacent areas while we were eating. Just a personal preference not to inhale cleaning chemicals/ dust while eating. Absolutely loved the ski lift chairs that were usable and placed at indoor and outdoor tables! Met a friend here for lunch on a Saturday and it was packed! We thankfully got a table at the bar without having to wait. That being said the bartender takes care of the bar and those tables, so it was a little slower but 100% understandable. Service was friendly and our food came out pretty fast. I got a burger and it was a little pricey but very good. The vibe inside is exactly what you'd think. A big wooden lodge with a fire roaring next to the bar. Cozy and casual. Lunch today at Hickory Lodge was extremely disappointing. I had rockfish bites which were good until I got to the worm! Can it happen? Yes and I understand that, however the response from Hickory Lodge was much less than adequate. The waitress apologized and said she would get the manager. I told her I didn't want to pay for the fish. The manager never came out. I worked in the restaurant business before. If I was the manager I would have taken care of the whole check. We only had French onion soup, a burger and the Rockfish bites. No drinks just water. It would have went a long way to make up for me totally losing my appetite and not finishing my meal. We were skeptical based on the 3.5 star review. But noticed there wasnt many overall. This place is excellent, came down this way to vacation for a weekend and this was a rather local spot. Got the fresh chicken tenders w/ fries and glazed salmon. Fries were eh, chicken was awesome. GF loves the salmon, she also got a crab cake and said it was good. Got lava cake and bread pudding banana foster for desert, both great especially the home made bread pudding. Waitress was great, got a seat right away. 0 complaints. Place deserves way better. Well apparently if you say you're not going to be able to finish your mussels because you don't care for them is a federal offense. I thought the customer was always right, but the waitress/bartender seemed to take it personally. She took away the bowl and never said would you like something else or I'm sorry that you didn't like them. Then proceeded to basically ignore us. She didn't ask how my fiancé's food was, never asked if she wanted another beer and we ended up asking another barmaid for our check since ours was ignoring us. This was such a cute restaurant. It's very spacious and decorative. Lots of stuffed animals, it really does look like a lodge. My friend recommended the Black & Bleu Burger so I ordered it. It came with red peppers and I was worried that the flavors would clash but it had the opposite effect. The roasted red peppers really enhanced the Bleu cheese and made it pop. I really enjoyed my burger, this was probably the best black & Bleu burger I've had in a long time. Service was ok. Our waiter was attentive and kind. The only issue I had was that as we were eating our entree he said he would bring the check. It definitely changed the atmosphere because we started feeling rushed. There were plenty of empty tables, so not sure what that was about. I would recommend bringing the check when the customer asks for it or is finished eating, but bringing it over after receiving the order is a bit excessive. Lots of free parking here. read more

Came in on a Tuesday evening. Wasn't that busy-plenty of seats. I was excited to see all the swing tables were open asked if we could sit at one, but the hostess, Audrey, said, "no, need to save these for large groups." I was disappointed, but didn't say anything even though there were plenty of tables open for large groups. A few minutes later,,I noticed them seating a family of four at a swing table and nobody else joined them the entire time we were there. I was very disappointed and didn't appreciate being lied to. 10/10 recommend! We went on a Sunday afternoon and it wasn't too busy. There are several seating areas! We have no complaints. The bartender was very helpful and polite! She actually gave recommendations and she did not fail us. The crabby fries were so delicious I forgot to snap a picture. I always go to the lodge and it's always hit or miss, but this was a major miss. Got charged an extra $4 for my ToGo order, which i was not earned about when placing my order. So my $15 meal, which was just chicken tenders and fries with extra honey mustard, was actually $18. The extra charge was for placing a carry out order and an automatic tip applied. I checked my bag and the honey mustard was missing, so i waited 5 minutes at the bar to get it and received a small container that was only 1/3 full. Back Story: Every year around Christmas I get my team together for a holiday gathering. I usually pay for a portion of the event as a token of my appreciation. This year the ​team decided they wanted to go to the Hickory Lodge in Bel Air MD. So I called and made a reservation for 8 at 12:00 on 18 December. I asked how I could go about paying for a portion of the bill and it was recommended that when I arrive for the gathering that I purchase gift cards. That seemed to be a great suggestion. Experience: Upon arriving at the Hickory Lodge and being seated, I went to the bar and purchased 8 $25.00 gift cards then distributed them to my team. After the meal, each person gave the waiter their gift card and some form of payment to cover their balance. The waiter returned and explained that there was a zero balance on all cards so he went ahead and charged the full price of each meal to each individuals payment apparatus. Unhappy with the situation, I explained that I had just within the hour purchased the gift cards and I had a receipt to show for them. I further explained that I wasn't happy that rather than to question the zero balance, he just proceeded to charge each individual. The waiter asked if I wanted to speak with a manager to which I replied yes. The waiter disappeared for about 15 minutes, then returned without the manager and explaining that he had figured out the situation and that the gift cards were now active. Confused, I explained that he needed to rerun the transaction so the guys didn't have to pay for the majority of their bill. While discussing with the waiter, my team had agreed that it was fine and they would just use the gift cards at a later time​​​. I wasn't happy with that but agreed. The waiter, seemingly perturbed said F**k it, it's all good. Every one of us looked at each other like, what does that mean??? We all hung around for another 5-10 minutes wishing each other happy holidays then all but 3 of us left. The 3 that stayed proceeded to the bar to enjoy a couple of holiday beverages. After one round, we ordered a second. Now probably 20 minutes after the dinner payment debacle I was sitting at the bar enjoying my drink when a man approached from immediately in front of me, looking me in the eye and with a level of hostility says " you had that party of 8 in the back and you walked out on your bill and im calling the cops". No introduction, no calm explanation, no request for resolution​. Rather an immediate accusation of my team being thiefs and the cops are being called. My blood pressure spiked and I responded unprofessionally, with disbelief and anger. I asked, " what are you talking about"? He responded something to the fact that you had the gift card mixup and you left without paying and I'm calling the cops. I responded with some unchoice words explaining that I didn't know what he was talking about, we had all paid and there were receipts to prove it. He said the waiter told you that we refunded the cards and that you needed to pay again. Myself and two other team members (one of which was actually my boss and who I had now demonstrated a level of unprofessionalism in the face of confrontation) all responded that wasn't the case. All the waiter told us was that the gift cards had been activated and the next thing out of his mouth was F@@k it, it's all good. The man, who still hasn't introduced himself nor provided his position of employment then disappeared into the back, moments later returning with the waiter. The waiter proclaimed he told us that our payment had been reimbursed to which me and the other 2 with me called his BS. I explained that there were no receipts provided for the reimbursement to which the man responded "I have it on my computer and I did it myself". I responded that was great but I dont have access to your computer and I hadn't heard from you until this point. The exchange went back and forth with quite a bit of foul language from both sides and ended by me paying for all of the meals in addition to paying for the gift cards. To this moment, I still do not know who the man was nor his position of employment as a representative of the Hickory Lodge but, I can tell you that he and the waiter are completely unprofessional, offered no apology for the misunderstanding and endless mistakes made by him and the waiter. If you are ever in the area of Bel Air MD, I would recommend avoiding this train wreck of an establishment named the Hickory Lodge​. Additionally, in order to submit my review I had to give at least 1 star but in reality I would give the Hickory Lodge in Bel Air MD a negative star rating. read more

Unfortunately this place has gone downhill. A few weeks ago we we were in and was so disappointed with employees, the food, the service really everything. There weren't that many people there but still service was slow. The employees were goofing around, using vulgar language and much busier talking with either friends or regulars to help their other customers. The Rockfish bites have been a go to for us for a long time. This was the second time that they were soggy and had no crispness to them at all. The same thing with the fries. They tasted old. Additionally our food was warm at best, not hot. Such a disappointing visit, it will be quite a while before we come back. read more

I've been here twice now within weeks of each other. Good experiences both times. First time with coworkers for late lunch - second time with parents for dinner. Food/drink: Haven't had anything here I didn't like. I will say that the corn & crab chowder was a touch heavy for me but that's literally just the item haha. I strongly recommend the mixed berry salad. Man does this place do its salads really well!! That goat cheese and pecan combination with the fruit really worked well. And the alpine fries are a must if you want a c l a s s i c. I also loved my summer(berry?) mojito. My family also ordered the mozzarella kabobs (good but I do think the sauce could add a touch more acidity somehow?), rockfish wrap (great) and the chicken Stirfry (I personally don't go for this as much but it's a solid standard.) Service: Good both times. We were seated quickly. The staff was very polite even when they were clearly busy and interrupted. The food came out pretty quickly. Ambiance: You can sit outside, at a table, or on one of those swings. I thought the swings were great. It's a very cute idea that evokes the slopes and aligns to the lodge aesthetics. And of course you can get a regular table if you don't like it too. There are quieter and louder areas of the restaurant. And outdoors the hanging flowers and lights were really lovely at night too. First visit last night with a well connected friend in Harford County. We sat at the bar, ordered adult beverages and ordered rockfish bites and the Lodge's BBQ Lumberjack Burger. Interestingly, my friends bites came out first but I had to wait several minutes until my burger was delivered. The burger and fries were good and I enjoyed a rockfish bite that was very good. After settling the tab, we moved to another building on-site where there was a huge crowd and live music. The Lodge is a fun place with a cozy interior. Locals definitely rule the roost here. If there's one thing I've noticed about this place is their consistency with their food. Meals are made to our liking, always high quality and well presented. Service is always great too. Second time we've come to the Lodge. BOTH times we wanted to sit outside as the days were beautiful. Instructed to go inside, see the hostess, and the host will then see you outside. The two servers outside advised that most likely we would be seated in a particular table. We could choose any one of the numerous outside empty tables. One of us stood by a table, waiting for the second person to return with the hostess to secure our seating. One of the two inside hostesses, told that we would have to wait 10 to 15 minutes for the hostess to leave the inside and would then come seat us at one of numerous open tables outside. I'm not certain why one or the other of the two outside servers were unable to make an educated decision to sit a customer. Likewise, there were two hostesses inside. Why couldn't they have come out to see us? This isn't just one server glitch. This is becoming a customer service nightmare. read more

You ready for a good time and god food well come on in! I have frequented this place due to some boss lunches and it has always been pleasant! The waiters/waitresses are very accomdating and have good personalities! Maybe my second visit I had ordered a meal and when it came out, something I am allergic to I could smell in the dish (normally I tell the waiter/waitress my allergies as soon as they come up but I forgot) and asked the waitress if that item was in the food well it sure was. Without any hesitation the waitress proceed to ask what can she tell the chef to do so I will be pleased with the dish. We spoke about it and the chef even came out and figured out a way to make the dish work! That really has remained in my memory and it was appreciated! They have plenty of drinks and offer happy hours, and events certain nights. There is a night they have the bull which I think is Saturday but I could be wrong. They now have a outback inside bar that you can hang out or have small parties in. I just attended a party there and it was a great area. It was very roomy, pool tables, TVs, plenty of seating options and there were space outside for smokers. They have changed some of their menus options so I am getting use to the changes before I can recommend a dish since I am familiar with the old menu. Atmosphere - Very large lodge style restaurant centered around a bar, we sat indoors but it looked like there was a large heated outdoor area as well. Felt like I was in a big ski lodge. It was decently crowded so if you are being more cautious with Covid maybe not the best place to go. Food- I got the shrimp sandwich and mashed potatoes with blue cheese, very happy with portion size and flavor, especially of the cheesy mashed potatoes. We got a bruschetta appetizer that had an incredible sauce. All of my friends ordered the honeybear wrap which they said is the go to. We really didnt like our lemon drop shots (too herby flavored?) but our crushes and other drinks were great. Service- Our waitress was really nice and patient with us, I think all the checks were correct which was difficult because half of us split checks and the other half shared. Absolutely had a great time! I was so mad that I've been living local for a couple years and missed it. Food: Great, my "go-tos" are rockfish bites, steamed mussels, and double barrelled nachos for appetizers. Grilled salmon with rice and asparagus, bacon wrapped meatloaf, and seafood linguine for entrees. Corn and crab chowder and the French onion soup are a must. Banana Foster bread pudding with a huge scoop of vanilla ice is just wow. Drinks: the Winchester is a close favorite but they have other fancy drinks too! Staff: very nice, friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable about the menu. I have had them surprise order my entire meal without any disappointment ever. Children: I don't have any but the ones I see there seem to enjoy and I know they have a kids menu too. Atmosphere: Love it! Reminds me of a ski lodge out west! Lots of posters and ski-related stuff hanging around. I also liked the wooden sculptures, and paintings. They actually have old ski lift chairs to sit in part of the restaurant. They also have an eating area by the fireplace, and an out door area as well. Parking: plenty of it. Overall: a great place to go whether for a date, with family, or friends. The food is delicious and there's plenty of variety if you want meat, fish, salad, burgers, sandwiches, soup, desert, drinks, they have it all. The lodge used to be a friendly and pleasant dining experience. We have enjoyed the food, drinks, and great service since the day they opened. Sadly, the new management has turned it upside down. The aggressive and intimidating manager acted like a mafia boss scaring both staff and the customers at our last visit. We witnessed a poor woman being told by him to basically "get over it" , it's no big deal" after the waiter accidentally dumped dressing on her clothes and purse. Buyer beware! read more
