I popped in to The Local with one of my friends for a much needed happy hour and we were both in consensus we had to come back to try some other menu items and specials. $7 for the house Sangria and a mule of the day, was a great start to the evening and quite tasty. We both dined on the burger and fries and enjoyed the dish. I would've like a bit of seasoning on the burger patties and maybe a cheddar or American cheese, but that's my personal preference. I asked for the black truffle aioli on the side and that was definitely the way to go to really be able to taste the black truffle. And might I say the aioli was delicious. The place is packed -making money hand over fist- but why only one wait person in a big room packed with people. Made for some really long wait times. On the plus side my family enjoyed the ribs and crab balls. On the negative side, the fish in my fish and chips was painfully thin and small. Normally you get a nice chunky piece of fish when you get fish and chips. Not only that, l've never had fish and chips where the skin was on the fish. I left most of the skin behind, but ate some of it because the portion was so small. I had to eat something. Please have the chef look up what fish and chips is supposed to look like. Despite being the only server, our wait person was outstanding - it wasn't their fault that they had to handle the entire dining room. . Also appreciated the carafe of water on the table - but why no ice -had to drink lukewarm water. Meatloaf 10/10: does it look like a meatloaf? Not really. But it was so tasty and warm. Uneek Royale 11/10: this burger is messy. The sunny side egg was a perfect addition although again, the yolk bursting makes everything messy. I think that's to be expected. The bacon jam added some sweetness to the experience. I came here expecting a great experience after seeing it rated as one of the best spots in White Marsh but unfortunately, it didn't live up to that at all. The atmosphere was nice and the music was genuinely a highlight...I really appreciated the vibe the band created. The manager was also very kind and professional, which stood out. But the food and service missed the mark. I asked the bartender for appetizer recommendations and was told the steak & cheese egg rolls were the most popular. They were packed with filling, but completely lacking flavor but otherwise very plain. The steamed shrimp were also just that plain shrimp with some seasoning. Just ok For my entrée, I ordered the salmon with squash and pineapple, along with the extra sides of street corn and whipped potatoes. The potatoes came out cool to the touch, the salmon was blackened but under-seasoned, and the sides were underwhelming... the salmon ... an extremely small piece with just a few slices of squash and some pineapple cubes. For a $30+ dish, it felt overpriced and poorly executed. I ended up not eating the street corn .... that was taken off my bill. On top of that, the bartender never came back to check back in, I needed salt and pepper ; wanted to order a Diet Coke despite there being plenty of staff behind the bar. To add to the frustration, an automatic 18% gratuity was applied to the bill ...even including the item I didn't eat. Overall, aside from the manager and the music, this experience fell short. I have eaten at the local in Bel-Air. I would recommend that place all the time. This is not that place. I've tried coming here three times in hopes that I just had a one off bad experience, but that was not the case today for my third and final time I ordered the carnivore platter which tasted like it had a whole jar of barbecue sauce dipped on everything. Couldn't tell you if the meat was seasoned well all I could tell you is that all the barbecue sauce was on this plate. What was hilarious is, the last time I got the brisket there, it was hard as a rock so maybe this was their way to compensate. My wife's meal was bland, and my son's ok. Certainly not worth the inflated price. Overall, the service was slow. The waitress was weird, asking questions like... did we all want our dinner at the same time. Honestly, not sure how I was supposed to answer that or why anyone would ask. They automatically charged us an 18% tip. I generally never tip that low, but it seemed generous for the service we received. If you're in the White Marsh area, there are better places to eat... The Local at the Avenue has a new chef!!! It's worth a try back to this gem on the avenue. Last time I visited, I happened to see a familiar face and I couldn't place him and then I remembered... I saw this man on my TV. He is an award-winning chef who has won various local competitions, and I am just amazed by the new and innovative offerings on the menu. For something special, look for items with UNEEK in the name as that's his handle, if you really wanna get a feel for his culinary flair. Wow, the new chicken sandwich is fantastic and very innovative. The chicken is perfectly juicy, well seasoned and the slaw that accompanies it just sets your taste buds off. French fries were pipping hot, crispy and tasty. My only complaint was they had a little too much salt for my liking. The bartenders like Jamie and Jay provide craft cocktail service with tasty temptations and if they're not too busy, a nice side of pleasant conversation. Every time we've visited this location it's been super clean, so clean you could eat off the floor, even in the bathroom, but why would you when there are high top chairs and booth and table seatings which are comfortable for people of all heights and sizes. No detail was left unattended to...there are purse hangers, and charging stations at the bar. The bathrooms are easy to get to, clean, well lit and the floor is perfect for people who might need a little extra help or have canes or walkers. There's a fantastic private room which you can book for parties. The price is a little steep and out of my budget, but if you've got a special event coming up, check them out. As with all other businesses on the avenue, sometimes parking can be challenging, but if you snag a spot in front, you're good to go. I have to say I was a bit surprised to walk into the restaurant on a Sunday morning to a dj blaring music but it was a vibe. For $52 it should've been so much better. It was dry, lacked flavor and the crab tasted old. Cmon, you're in Maryland! However, the biggest disappointment was dessert. They make some in house and some they outsource from a local bakery. They had a Oreo cream pie from the bakery so I jumped at that (love me some Oreos). My Wife and I stopped in for lunch. Since the menu had M/P for the crab cake sandwich, I asked our waiter what was the market price? He told us $32.00. We each ordered the crab cake sandwich. When the food came, I asked the waiter in the future are there options instead of French fries, since my wife don't eat fries. He said yes there was.
