What a nice surprise! I grew up in McMinn County and had no idea this restaurant existed. A close friend from Chattanooga suggested Silver Springs for lunch, as it's roughly midway between our homes in Knoxville and Chattanooga. We sampled several wines and were pleasantly surprised at how good they were. My friend chose the Moussaka for her meal, while I selected the Lemon Grilled Chicken. Both were excellent! We were a little confused initially because you order both food & wine at the counter, then food is delivered to your table. It was a little congested with people not understanding the process. The food is pretty good and the atmosphere is nice, although there are better, less expensive Greek restaurants in the area. The customer service here can be atrocious! I've heard several people talk about having issues with the owner, and tonight it was our turn. My parents had to wait over an hour for their food, long after my wife, kids, and I had finished ours. When we complained that we should get some sort discount, the owner told us he wouldn't do anything for us, and we can just choose to never come back. This place is quite different from what I was expecting. The actual winery building is not open, just the converted pavilion that houses the restaurant. It is more unique in that you seat yourself "at a table fitting your party size," order at the register and pay in advance, take a number back to your table, and wait for your meal to be brought out type of setup. We ordered the fish and shrimp special and two Hank's orange cream sodas. The fish and shrimp was good and came with tartar and cocktail sauces, ketchup, and coleslaw. Potato wedges were also included but could have been better. The interior is interesting but nice. Not sure how it would do in really hot or cold temperatures but we were comfortable during our visit. The exterior and surroundings kind of made me question if they were even still open once we had arrived and if someone had not of gotten our attention when we were walking up to the main building we would not have know to go in the other building. They also keep German shepherds with the vines--possibly to guard them--but they bark a lot when you arrive and, honestly, I said a little prayer the fence held because as beautiful as they were...they didn't look the most friendly. As a local raised in the small rural community for 37+years I've seen businesses come and go many times over here. I have traveled all over the globe and always look to support any small business/local mom-and pop fare over chained restaurants any day. However, I have given this restaurant multiple opportunities to reposition my outlook on their business and needless to say I will not return or recommend to others furthermore, until their business model has changed dramatically. * Prices are steep-- family of 4, 3 brunch plates, 3 sodas, 1 mimosa, and $78 later... * FIFO is a far fetched concept-- watched 4 other tables with larger parties get not only their drinks first, but their plates as well before we even got our basket of bread we had to ask for that came out refrigerator cold. * Our 10 year old found a hair follicle on his French toast. * 20 minutes from initial order time to get my mimosa they forgot about. * 53 minutes to get 1 deluxe French toast and bacon, 3 eggs with corned beef hash potatoes and bacon, not to mention 8 more minutes for our son to get his single order of hairy French toast. Would not have gave no where near the amount of tip I did after ordering, had I known the service, quality, and experience was going to be inexcusable as it was. We will never recommend this restaurant/venue to anyone!!! We made reservations with George, the owner 3 months in advance for our daughters wedding rehearsal dinner. Now just days before the event, George I cancelled our reservation. Three months ago he said no problem serving a private party of 20 people on a day that he is normally closed. He said as long as we choose just two items from their normal menu he could accommodate or party. Now George is denying that we ever had a reservation and that it was a miscommunication. We specifically scheduled the reservation for Monday the 15th of May when they are usually closed but he assured us that it would be no problem. It is very disappointing since we were looking forward to holding the event at this venue. However, since George is not being honest with us and has caused us to have to scramble last minute to find an alternative venue, I am sure we will never give George our business again and will recommend the same to everyone we know. Another fun stop if you are road tripping for the day! We stumbled upon the place but were delighted to find they had refreshments in house both in tasting and full glass size!! Mother's Day - Disaster Anticipating an amazing Mother's Day with the family can be a stressful event all within itself. Coordinating calendars, sending out texts and trying to "herd cats" is easier than gathering adults to spend time with their mom. Our only contextual way to reduce the stress is to pick a known restaurant that will help alleviate additional stress of hosting a family event yourself. Enter Silver Springs Vineyards. Having frequented the place prior, knowing the outcome of standing in line to order, yes that's right. You must stand in line like a taco truck on the corner to order $20 plates of food. Once you find a place to park, you're welcomed into a barn like atmosphere. Oddly enough, the barn feeling isn't that bad, and you quickly understand that this place is slightly better than a fast-food restaurant, but not much more then that. The food is average, the building is average, the seating is less than desirable and the service. Well, that brings us to our disaster. The person taking the orders was completely untenable, rude, and unaccommodating. Let's quote some of her words just for fun, "sorry, but we can't make changes to our dishes, its Mother's Day and with the orders coming in, we can't change the ingredients". Let's assume that no one in our party is allergic to mushrooms, tomatoes, or onions. Try ordering an omelet. She basically said, just pick out the ingredients and hope that you don't get sick. You've just paid $20 for an omelet that you can't eat or have decided to spend a few more minutes of mothers' days picking out the mushrooms and onions. Not only that, but the chaos of the line and rudeness of the staff being frustrated that its "Mother's Day" is apparent on everyone's face. They truly were regretting the day before it began. Read through the YELP reviews calling out the poor service and rude personnel are replete throughout this restaurant's reputation. Let's summarize. Rude, expensive, barn like atmosphere, can't customize a $20 omelet and must be willing to modify your order once you receive it. I'm going to just go to "Burger King" at least they let me "have it my way". Although I've personally have been here twice before and others more than five times, we always come away with a similar experience. However, after Sunday's disappointment, we've decided that there are other restaurants with a better attitude, a focus on customer service is just as important as the food they serve. I'm going to withhold any recommendations for this place going forward and I'm starting here. I hope that Silver Springs will take heed to the one outstanding remark "POOR SERVICE" and "RUDE PERSONNEL" and make some changes to better serve their customers. read more

Always delish! I had the Mousaska for the first time and it was amazing! Fresh pita bread and a lovely Greek salad accompanied it. The wine is perfect-no additives in George's products! The grandeur of this place demands your attention the minute you see it. The craftsmanship of this location is something to truly appreciate. Once inside, the staff is so friendly and helpful. They treat you like you're family or a good friend. The wine is delicious and full of flavor. You can do a wine tasting with several flavors and a complimentary glass for around $5 and you will definitely want to grab a few bottles to go for yourself and gifts. The Greek Cafe on site is an excellent spot to grab a casual lunch or a romantic dinner. The food is authentic Greek food. The owner and his son do not skimp on ingredients and quality, and are eager to recommend a special dish and pair it with the perfect wine. The portions are generous and full of flavor! I've attended events here and they all go off without a hitch and are super fun! Yoga and Wine on Tuesday nights is a must too! This location is easy to find, convenient to I-75 and Athens. What a beautiful place! The owner is so sweet and welcoming, and his cafe "Parthenon Pavilion" has the best Greek food you'll taste. All of his ingredients are organic, some locally grown, some imported straight from Greece. My husband and I will definitely frequent here when passing through, we are in love with it. I'm sorry but this place needs alot of work. It looks great on the outside but 50 dollars for watery pasta and food from what seemed like yesterdays lunch is not ok. Even some actual plates would have been nice. My girlfriend basically just threw her plate away. Its no wonder they have you pay upfront. I watched this place being built, and kept wondering what it was going to be. The wood work captivated me! We stopped going that route to see it's completion, but I did know a winery was coming and that was it. Just last week my husband was back in that area and saw there was a Greek Cafe'. He came home excited, and told me what the final place had become. We went tonight, and it was superb! The wine tasting was very hard to make a decision, but I decided on the Blackberry/Blueberry Blend and hubby had Malee (we think that's what it was called). He had the vegetarian trio...Yum! We visited here to enjoy a diner because we heard such great things about the place. The food was good, my wife had Moussaka and I had Fish and shrimp. The breading on the fish and shrimp was not as heavy as I expected, almost like a tempura and it allowed the flavor of the shrimp and fish to come through. The Moussaka was very good as I had spent 3 months working in Greece, it tasted authentic. So why 3 stars, either the chairs were very low or the tables very high, no too comfortable. This is one of our most favorite places to go! The food is AMAZING and reasonably priced. I have never had anything that I didn't think was awesome from appetizers to dessert. We really like the wine as there is no added sugar. Get there early because it can be very crowded. You can pick up food or eat outside on these lovely evenings. We try and never miss the band that plays monthly. We get there early to eat and then take chairs for the band. It's not a bad drive to Riceville and well worth it!
