I came in for a routine engine oil service. During the visit, I was told that my timing belt needed to be replaced, and I was given a quote for the repair. However, I had my timing belt replaced just two and half years ago and have driven only about 22,000 miles since then, so I felt something wasn't right. To get a second opinion, I took my car to a shop in Torrance. After inspecting the vehicle, they told me there was no clicking noise coming from the front of the engine, no visible cracks or other signs of wear on the timing belt, the timing belt did not need to be replaced. They also explained that the timing belt typically needs replacement every 60,000 miles, with inspections recommended every 30,000 miles. The only reason I went to Silver Spur Arco was because it is conveniently located next to my home. Based on my experience, I am concerned that they may have tried to sell me an unnecessary repair, possibly assuming that I was an older woman who would not know much about cars. My advice to others is to be cautious whenever you are quoted for a repair. If possible, always get a second opinion before approving expensive work. Don't ever get a car wash here it was so disrespectful and how they just ripped you off take 25 bucks splash some water on your car. I think they even rubbed dirt on my paint. Areas of my interior were obviously not wiped down at all. Two of my wheels were still dirty. Oh my gosh thought it'd be better to just leave this review then deal with these guys. I really think that they should break the three separate entities that are housed in this business up into different categories: namely, the gas station, the car wash and the mechanics. But, since they are all bundled up into one, I'm going to write my review about the overall experience of each, with a focus on my recent experience with their mechanics. First of all, I've come to this Arco for decades to get gas. I have never had a problem, and I continue to come back. In terms of their car wash, I've never had my car washed here, but my wife goes here quite frequently. The trick is, what you need to do is go to the local Ralph's, and on the back of the receipt you will get from them, after you buy your groceries, you will see a discount coupon for the car wash. That's what my wife grabs, and she's never had a problem with the car wash. They do a very good job. In terms of their mechanics, they're great. They do an excellent job with whatever they do. We've had our smog checks done here, oil changes, or mechanical work. Never had any problem. The way it works, on the mechanic side of this business, is that they work off of a first come first serve basis. Meaning, who's there first, is the first that they will take care of. That seems pretty logical. They don't make appointments, so if you want to get your car done on the same day, bring it in early. They open at 8 AM. For my most recent experience, I brought in my car at 8 AM, just as the manager of the shop was getting to work. He happily wrote down my information, I told him what I needed to have done, he told me it would be done by the early afternoon. And, in the early afternoon it was done. Great job! Done for a very fair price. Overall, this is a great place to get your gas, your car wash, or your work on your car done. It's as simple as that. read more

First off, the reviews should be separated by service station, car wash, and gas/convenience store. It seems wrong to give the whole place 1 star because you didn't like the price of cookies. That said, this review is for the service station. I've been coming here for about 2 years now. I'm always happy with the work done. Alberto and the crew seem to really know their stuff and are always nice as can be. They do a great job explaining and itemizing the work that needs to be done. This last trip I had some suspension work done. It was done in a day and works great. I've pretty much used all the other mechanics within a few miles radius. They either try to gouge you and not itemize their work, or they just don't know what they're doing. Save yourself the agony and just go here!!! I'm writing this review to warn others about my experience with the car wash/detail service at this gas station. I brought my truck in for what was supposed to be a simple exterior cleaning. My truck is in great condition and I take really good care of it. Before bringing it in, the paint was clean with no noticeable scratches on the panel that ended up being damaged. After the wash, I noticed multiple long scratches and swirl marks on the paint that absolutely were not there before. The scratches are especially visible on dark paint and appear to be from something abrasive being dragged across the surface. Based on the pattern, it looks very similar to damage caused by a dirty wash brush. The most frustrating part is that this was supposed to be a basic cleaning service, yet I left with paint damage that now needs professional correction. Anyone who cares about their vehicle's paint knows that scratches like this usually require polishing or paint correction to fix, which costs far more than the wash itself. So far they haven't helped me or done anything, completely unbelievable. read more

Rip-off I have a coupon for a car wash for $17.95 that expires 10/31/23. I went there today (10/30/23) and presented it. I have an SUV, which normally adds a few dollars to the cost. They told me that the price went up and now the wash is $24.95 with the coupon. Although the coupon was still valid, they had no intention of honoring it. While the difference was probably only a few dollars, I didn't want to deal with them at all and I left, never to return. I wouldn't trust them to do a good job. My tire randomly went flat and I decided to roll on by and ask if they patched up tires(I had my service scheduled for two days after so I was just going to get a new one then). They showed me that the tread was coming off and so they used my spare. Their prices were awesome so I decided to get two new tires from them. Sam was the one who put on my spare and he was so nice. He genuinely cared about me driving with my kids and safety. Mike called me as soon as they were there and I headed over. They gave me great advice and were super friendly and helpful. If it weren't for the fact that it is the closest gas station to where I live, I would avoid this place like the plague. The staff, and especially the cashiers, are usually rude and could not care less about their customers. Most often than not, there are issues with the card payment so you have to go inside to pay. I got sidetracked, and left without filling up. When I realized my mistake 5 minutes down the road, I pulled back around. I didn't know much about car service on the hill. It just so happens that I had a fuel pump failure a few months ago, and the tow truck driver asked if I wanted to be brought to the Arco station on Silver Spur and Hawthorne. I asked him to bring my car home, where I would order and change out the pump myself, but in the drive to my house, I asked him about this particular station and he said that they were honest and reasonable. So now just recently, my car had started to misfire, and checking my OBDII scanner had a fault code. Checking the internet, it could be a number of things, but the engine coil(s) was the likely culprit. I was able to put my car to the shop, and met Alberto. I saw the positive reviews with his name in the reviews, and I mentioned my problem. He immediately knew what it likely was (coils), but he would check it out and call me back. I put myself into a mindset that the repair would be very costly, and maybe it was time to buy a new car...but after him checking out the car, it was fast (within a few hours), very affordable, and with me knowing my stuff, was done well. They also have a car wash as you can see, and although I went there to get my car fixed, it came back washed and vacuumed as well. it was a nice icing on the cake, being that in all my years of getting Nissan service at a dealership, to get a washed car back was hit or miss. Not only will I not drive down the hill anymore, I will begin to bring my regular service here as well. I needed an oil change and my father had a coupon here for $29.99 plus $1.99 disposal fee and free car wash. So I came today at 1:15 pm on a Saturday and was told it would take about an hour. I dropped off my keys at the front desk and then went out to lunch and grocery shopping with my parents. Came back at 3:30 pm, and my car was still being worked on. The guy said 10 more minutes. They finished in about 10 minutes and then proceeded to wash my car. The oil change coupon only included 4 quarts of oil, so I needed to pay more for any additional oil. They finished washing my car at about 4 pm. The total cost for the oil change ended up being $34.01, which I think is quite reasonable. But be prepared for a long wait if you come here. I WILL NEVER GO THIS CAR WASH!! The guy that runs the car wash is a total jerk. I called them and they said they weren't busy when in fact, they actually were. Not to mention when I asked about the cost of a car wash coupon that I had they chose to raise it three extra dollars for just the regular wash And I thought that was a little crazy being that most places were only two dollars but OK. Con: 1. Really bad service. The people who work there just stare you down until you pay or you leave. I feel so uncomfortable going there without a gang of people around. 2. Their gas isn't even that cheap. I go off the hill to get gas all the time or even goto Cheveron because their 89 octane is cheaper than this place. 3. People who work there. Yes, they're super-fast (we're talking less than 10 minutes from pulling up to driving off). However, they break two cardinal rules of carwashes: 1) Do not allow your coffee station to be neglected. Twice I've tried to snag a cup of joe to find no cups. What, do you want I pour scalding hot coffee in my hands, and drink it like I'm sort of tribesman drinking from a delicious cappuccino river? NO! 2) This should be tattooed on the foreheads of anyone working at ANY car wash: ***NEVER EVER EVER USE A RAG THAT CLEANED BRAKE DUST OFF THE RIMS TO WIPE DOWN THE REST OF THE CAR*** This is like "car washing 101," people. Nothing scrapes up clearcoat faster than a dirty rag filled with brake dust. When I saw them do this to my 3-week old car, I was pretty much unable to do anything but stand there and make some sort of awkward choking noise like, "HNnnnnnngghhflkfkanggghh." I figured yelling at them would only make me look like a dick and not fix anything, so I am taking the highbrow, passive-aggressive route of bashing the crap out of them on Yelp. Go here for filling up on Gas, they have good service and the best prices. Never had any issue while filing up gas here. For mechanical problems or car washes, I suggest not going here. I've had my car washes done here numerous times, but they always seem very lazy about it and miss spots all the time. read more

I don't really fill up with Arco due to the dirty gas, but the perks about this location is that they have FREE AIR! Yes if you go to other places it's only free if you fill up gas (according to California law) or you have to pay 75 cents. They also have a shop in the back so they do oil changes and your typical basic car stuff. One time the free air pump was broken that the employees told me to drive to the back so they can pump air in my tires. (SWEET!) - GOOD SERVICE :) They also have an outdoor hand car wash. ($10 for your basic wash and so on for more additions). I've had my car washed there. If you want something detailed don't think about going here. This is just for something you want as a maintenance clean if you're a super neat freak with your car. So I just go here once in a while because they do a decent job. Overall, I'm just here for the air for my tires and the occasional car wash. read more

Horrible customer service, if you have a coupon they will try to up charge you depending on the size of your car. The Persian employee made me go back and forth in order to get a new receipt when he could've easily just written me a new one. He was also incredibly rude towards his co workers.
