Went to Rick's for a 2nd time as this shop was my backup place when my regular place in Gardena was unavailable and super busy for a few hours. Had a synthetic oil change at Rick's figuring I would be in and out of the shop since they did not have a lot of cars at the moment. (Weekday afternoon) My vehicle has low miles and is well maintained for the most part. No problem with the price of the oil change. However the mechanic suggested additional two items potentially $360 that I declined. Lesson learned and will plan ahead with my regular shop and get regular shop's feedback on what was suggested. read more

I needed a smog check and was in the area so I came to Rick's on a Thursday afternoon. They had other cars but they managed to get me in and out with my certificate in hand -- took roughly 18 mins. Smog check! This place offers smog check for $34.75 (+$8.25 smog certification + 3.00 electronic transmission fee + 2.5% credit/debit card fee). In the end i paid $46. When I dropped my car off, they said it'll take 20 minutes. So I walked to the nearby starbucks and walked a lap around Wilson Park. Then when I came back, they said they're still working on it. In the end, it took about 30-35 min. Overall very good service. Inside is small but offers several seats and some cables attached to the table to charge your device. I saw keurig machine next to front desk, assuming it's free for customers. They also charge 2.5% if you use credit/debit card. Really good service at a really low price. read more

Just as advertised. Came to Rick's Lube and showed them the SMOG coupon I received in the mail and was in and out within 15 mins. Coupon advertised $34.75 + SMOG cert ($8.25) + electronic Transmission fee ($3.00), total came out to $46 out the door. FYI they only do regular SMOG only, so not a STAR station. We took our car to have the water pump replaced. We inquired about this 7 months prior so we can have an idea of the cost. The repair was good. The manager though direct is not friendly. 2 incidents: 1) When we went to pick up the car we asked him to please describe again what was the work done. He got defensive and reminded us that this situation happens when we wait too long. Our intention was a request for honest information, not to chastise. 2) When paying, right after swiping the credit card, we noticed an increase in the original amount, when asked, the manager told us that if we would've paid with either debit card or cash we wouldn't have paid the extra 3% cost of credit card fees, which in our case it amounted to almost $60 more. Our main issue is that we were NOT given the opportunity at any moment to pay either with debit card or cash. Thank you. read more

After brake service by Rick's Lube, one of the tire studs was damaged by a technician. This problem was discovered by an independent AAA approved repair shop. The damaged stud / repairs was brought to the attention of the owner, Rick Nickel. Despite being a customer since 2017, Rick refused to reimburse the $193 fee charged by the AAA approved repair shop. The repair fees were within normal guidelines, however, Rick claimed the repairs were too high for the work and would not take responsibility for the damaged tire stud. In early March I went there for an oil change because it was nearing time and my low tire pressure warning AND low wiper fluid warning lights were both on. I confirmed with the manager that they check air in tires as part of the oil change. When I got back in the car to leave, the tire pressure light was still on so I asked a worker what was up and he said it would reset after I drive for a bit. After about 350 miles it was still on (the same front left tire showing especially low), even thought it had gone off a few times for several miles upon freeway driving. My 2019 car has had a lot of glitches and I read online that it could take time to reset or that the sensor could be broken. A few weeks later I went back to say my tire pressure light was still on so they actually put air in them. The warning light was immediately off and has stayed off since. So...they never checked/put air in my tires despite the warning light being on while they serviced it AND my asking specifically if that was part of the oil change. It was dangerous for me to be driving on that tire for so long! And this oversight made me wonder if they really even did an oil change, but I checked the dipstick and they had. However, I'll never go back there again. read more

Very honest and quick to respond. I went in to check my car for a leak and the tech told me my car was "bone dry" - nothing wrong with it. I was at my lunch break, so the timing was perfect - about 10 minutes. He didn't charge me a thing. Told me I didn't need a 50K service, just wait until I hit 60K. The only reason I am giving this place one star is because the owner has been gracious to me over the years! Rick is THAT guy but his employees? More specifically, the "manager" at this location is a piece of work. I went in two weeks ago for a full brake work up. Thank God, I received direct instruction/ feedback from Rick, the owner. Rick affirmed me that all was well with my brakes and that I would not need to change my brake pads. He did recommend that I change my wheel bearings and offered a deal on getting them all replaced that day. After driving around with this terrible squeak for weeks, I was open to doing all what needed to be done. I paid about $491 after taxes for this service and parts; driving off with full confidence in the job they've done. Needless to say, the squeak came back about a week. Today, making it two weeks to the day since my last visit, I decided to take my car back to Rick's with hopes of seeing the owner to get to the root of this issue. As soon as I pulled up, the manager came out and I told him that I had been here two weeks ago and I'm still hearing the same noise from the initial visit. I took a test drive with him so that he could hear the noise. After the drive, I asked how long it would be because I had just finished a 12 hour shift and didn't want to wait a long time. even tols him that I'd come back another day. The manager told me the wait for the diagnostic would be less than 30 minutes to see what the issue was. This was the first issue, I waited almost an hour and a half before he let me know that my brake pads needed to be replaced. He said that the metal clip was missing from it and because they don't sell that part separate from the padding itself, I'd need to replace the break pad altogether for an additional $200. Now, this would have been fine if Rick hadn't affirmed me that the brake pads were fine 2 weeks ago. The manager continues to tell me that while the brake pads are in still "good shape" -- I'd need to pay for them to be replaced because the little metal part that's missing from the top of the brake pads is what is rubbing against my rotors making the scratching/ squeaking noise. I've never been more disappointed in all my years of going to Ricks. This is completely unreasonable and the manager refused to let me speak to Rick about this issue as he did not want to "interrupt Rick's vacation". Again, I know Rick would have been taken care of this issue free of charge because this was a mistake on their end. And if he didn't waive it entirely, the least I would've had to pay is a service fee of about 75 bucks. The piece had to have been missing from the initial visit because I have not received brake care from anyone else since then, yet and still I'm down $491 dollars with my car still sounding like a dying bird. I left and plan to go back on Friday to speak with Rick directly. I hope to come back here with an entirely new tone. As of right now, avoid this place at all cost. read more

As soon as I walked and even parked my car, I was greeted by the employee and asked me what I needed. I told him I was here for an oil change and filter change. He immediately told me that it was available and it would only take 15 minutes. I handed him the keys and if he went. This place was very clean and organized. There was a couple people waiting like two or three people waiting for their car. One evening; I noticed my mom's tail lights on her Honda Civic would not turn off. Since it was a fairly older car (model 2000); I knew there had to be something wrong as it was not an automatic turn off. I tried turning on the car and off but alas the tail lights simply would not turn off. Since it was late in the evening; there were no options to bring it in for service and had to sadly wait till the next morning. In the meantime I did a little bit of research and learned that the possible cause was the brake light switch could still be engaged. I read how many cars have plastic stopper at the top of the brake pedal that disengages the switch when the brake pedal is stationary. Sometimes this plastic stopper breaks and thus leaves the switch engaged and keeps the brake lights on. I went back to my mom's car and indeed saw a small plastic part on the floor. This 99% confirmed the cause and I also read the piece itself was fairly cheap (less than $10). Since I had brought my mom's car before for oil change at Rick's; I decided to check to see if they could fix the tail light issue. Since I had done my research; I knew the fix should be fairly quick and easy. I asked for an estimate and was surprised when the guy said $180! A whopping $180 for less than 30 minute fix with a less than $10 part. I'm not sure if he thought being a female; I'd fall for such a ridiculous price repair....but there was no way I was paying that amount. It goes without saying I decided not to go to Rick's and don't think I'll be back for oil change here either! (Side note I went to another place and they only charged me $40! Yes, $40 versus the $180 Rick's quoted. After being a loyal customer who used to come here for oil change; I don't think I will be back here in the future!) read more

Very Disappointing Experience---Rick has gone over to the dark side!! Won't Go Back! I had a coupon for a discount off any service (no restrictions at all), and I tried to use it for a standard oil change. But I was told the oil change was a special price, so Rick wouldn't accept the coupon. Turns out the special price has been the actual price for the past two years (kind of like those guys who have fake "going out of business" sales for years). Rick also currently has a $5 off oil change coupon---it's specifically for an oil change---on his website. Again, he wouldn't accept this coupon either, for the same bogus reason. So if you can't trust Rick to honor his coupon promises, how can you trust his advice or even that he's done the work he promised to do? If he's willing to squeeze an extra $5 or $10 out of you in a dishonest manner, what do you think is going to happen if he has the opportunity to wrongfully get an extra $100, $200 or even more from you? Time for me to look elsewhere. I'm no longer comfortable doing business with Rick. read more

I can't say enough good things about Rick's Lube Complete Auto care, Torrance. Last night, I heard the annoying screeching sound of brakes going bad. I took the car in this morning and they replaced the rear brakes pads and rotors. It was time for an oil change and I needed a smog test, too. BAM! Definitely our new one-stop-shop for car repair. Let me start off by saying this is only in regards to the torrance location , Carson location is good, I've never had an issue there. About two months ago my husband stopped at Rick's Lube in Torrance to service my Honda Civic (oil change). We noticed the car smelled like oil, following the service, but didn't think much of it because we trusted Rick's Lube, we've never had a problem. About a month passed and we noticed the oil smell got stronger, and now something was dripping from the car. My husband checks under the hood and noticed the oil cap is missing. We took it back to Torrance Rick's Lube and told them what we observed, in hopes of getting our oil cap back and possibly a redo oil change. We spoke to Chris, it appeared he had an issue that we were coming a month later (I get it, but can you also understand that I was unaware your shop forgot to put my oil cap back?). He also made excuses that the cap was probably loose and fell off, again clearly an oversight in whoever changed my oil but I don't think that's what happened. Chris eventually offered to top off all the spilled oil, he said it didn't need a redo oil change, it was about a quart or more short. He also informed us he "had a spare Honda oil cap" to replace the lost one ( probably the one they failed to put back on following the oil change). Chris assured me no additional damage was caused to the engine as a result of the oil spill. Chris offered a certificate for a free oil change . Chris also offered to get my engine washed because apparently it was a huge mess. He told us to wait for a call from someone at the car wash across the street (76) to get it done ... ( we waited about 4 hours no call, we decided to go to the car wash and ask , they didn't know anything about our comped engine wash but agreed to help). I was satisfied , the oil smell sort of decreased. About two weeks passed and I start hearing a squeak in the engine. About another week passes and the check engine light turns on (unrelated). We take it to Carson Ricks Lube to get it repaired. The mechanics at Carson Ricks Lube tell us the squeak is due to oil damage on the belt and belt component and advised us to return to ricks in torrance. (unsolicited information that we were grateful to get, that mechanic was VERY honest). We go to Ricks Lube in Torrance and my husband is helped by Chris again. My husband explains what he was told in Carson, and Chris offers to replace the belt for free but says the belt tensioner needs to be replaced and noted that it was not damaged by the oil ... it's about a $300 repair. I go and talk to Chris , because I'm not understanding the contradiction in the Carson mechanics assessment and Torrance's assessment. Chris is firm and brings up that it's been 2 months ( yea I know, but time has not undone the major mistake your shop made the day my oil was changed )... We decided not to accept the "free" belt (it wasn't free). I got a second opinion. We have a friend that is a very skilled but busy mechanic. Turns out the tensioner is splattered with oil, which was causing it to squeak... I was told the tensioner is not worn and simply needed to be cleaned with a degreaser. He said the belt should be changed. I'm upset. Not so much because of the initial mistake (missing oil cap) but the run around we got and the apparent dishonesty . To add insult to injury , when my husband arrived to the Torrance Ricks Lube, he requested to speak to Rick and was told he was not in. I'm looking through the pictures and found one of Rick, he was the guy I saw moving my car from the garage to the parking lot ... I don't think I'll be getting any oil changes at either Ricks, the convenience isn't worth it, and it's nothing against Carson they're really cool there, but I don't appreciate that experience . All for what? To cover your mechanics ass for forgetting to replace an oil cap and not wanting to have a loss of parts and labor charges for the shop? That could've been worked out differently . What a shame. If you go to Ricks in Torrance check your oil cap! ! And get a second opinion, not sure how skilled the mechanics are there tbh... read more

I had a leveling kit installed on my 2013 Toyota Tundra and they gave me what I thought was a great deal with pricing. I ended up paying for it in the end. One of the technicians did NOT tighten my rear struts causing one to come loose and bang around under the chassis and grinding on my aluminum wheel. The passenger rear strut was hand tight making a metal clanking noise. After all of this I went to align my front end and found they installed my sway bar end links backwards causing grinding and terrible camber. I have only ever had the Toyota dealership service this truck and the first time I buy aftermarket parts and take it to my local auto shop. Everything that could go wrong, did go wrong. read more

False advertising! Just came back from there. I told the man I needed an oil change; I have a coupon. He said, " We'll take care of it." When they finished, another guy told me my car was done and was ringing me up. I asked if he needed my coupon. He said, "No, everyday low price." When the total came out to $39.00, I asked how come the coupon said $27 ($26.99) and you're charging me $39? He answered, "because there's disposal fee, taxes and $1." Since they did the job, I paid the man. But when I reviewed the breakdown of the bill: Oil=$13.46; Filter=$2.98; disposal fee=$4; Ca Business Fee= $1, Tax=$1.56; Labor= $16. Basically, they charged me too much for labor. It should've been $26.99 (coupon price) + $4 (disposal) +$1.56 (taxes) + $1 (Ca business fee?)=$33.55 not $39! It's not a lot of money, but they lack integrity. If I can't trust them with the small job, definitely can't trust them with a bigger job. Last time going there! read more
