*** The Good *** Walton's took less than a day to do diagnostics on my car and charged only $75 to do that. They have great communication skills and exhibit no reason for me to doubt their honesty. *** The Bad *** Walton's could only take care of 1 of the 3 issues with my car (oil & fluid checks). For the other two issues (a catalytic converter replacement and a defective brake light socket) they gave me recommendations for other 3rd-party repair shops. This was disappointing (I was hoping for turnkey repair service), but I would rather have honesty (and schlep the car to 2 other places) than deception (and have them fumble their way to a poor repair that they weren't qualified for). This outcome could also have been due to my car being old (1998). Those of you with younger cars might still get the turnkey service I could not get. read more

Wow - great honest people here. I brought my Honda HRV into Waltons to get a quote for a dented bumper. Jose was responsive and came to look right away - within minutes he had offered to try quickly popping the bumper out himself. He was on the ground and popped the dent out within minutes, then gave me some really solid advice on how to fix the scratches and very minor dent that was leftover, along with thoughtful comments on how to navigate any issues. They get the job done but they're very overpriced. I called around to get my smog checked and 2 other places said it would take 15 minutes, one said it would be $49, and one said $55. I went to Waltons on accident thinking it was one of the places I called (that part is clearly my mistake) but it took an hour and a half and was $90, and they tried telling me that price was standard, even though it's clearly not based on other local shops. ALSO, I drove here because it was the closest mechanic to me around 2 years ago when my car battery died. so I went to buy a new battery from O'Reilly's and then went straight to Walton's to have it screwed in. They charged me $25 just to screw my new battery into my car. As a woman, I'm used to mechanics trying to charge me more thank it should be to work on my car. But throwing in remarks about it being standard when I've done my research and know that's incorrect is enough to compel me to write this review. read more

They scam people. Had an issue with my coolant system a few months ago. They said I needed my water pump changed, along with other minor things. They wanted to charge me about $1000. I decided to not let them work on my car because it seemed super expensive . I took it to my mechanic in Compton, and it turned out to be a simple pipe that needed to be replaced, not my water pump. My Compton mechanic charged me $250. read more

Have been to them several times over the years, with in general good results for basic repairs - they're especially good for tires, basic repairs like alternators, etc - with a friendly staff as well - very recommendable In the past. But I may have pushed my luck too far - my 2017 Porsche Boxster had (what I thought) were 3 relatively straightforward items - a burned out headlight bulb, a cooling system warning message, and a faulty window control switch. And after two days and over $500, I was 0-for-3 - the new bulb has a noticeably bluer cast, their remedy for the coolant system was to just top it off and see if that worked (later two Porsche garages each diagnosed it in 5 minutes on the rack that the water pump was leaking) - and they could not locate a new window switch. A disappointing experience, and I had to start again on all items. read more

To determine why my maintenance light went on and to fix a squeak when I backed the car up (caused during a prior visit to this shop), I brought my car in to Walton's Riviera Village, R.B., on 2/18/22. My prior experiences (plural) with this shop were good when Val Bugilan was managing; this time Craig Walton was up front. My convertible was taken on a joy ride. Further, I believe I was sold unnecessary products and services, along with the most expensive fixes instead of the less expensive ones I'm now hearing that I should have been offered. I was repeatedly offered products that I had already declined. Convertible Joy Ride: First, Mr. Walton or his workers took my convertible on a joy ride, all the way to Harbor City he said and for a total of 11 miles (let alone the waste of gas), not knowing that I had first written down the mileage. His excuse, when I called him on it, sounded made-up on the spot and was given after some hesitation--that it was necessary to see if my brakes for ok. Absolutely untrue. Further, this a breach of any client's trust, and in my opinion, of the law: breach of bailment. This is especially true since, as I first told Mr. Walton and Jose, the squeak only happened when I backed up. After backing it up, there was no need to take it more than around the block a few times. Since, after they'd had it for a day, the noise was worse and occurred now when the car went forward as well as backward, I even let it sit there overnight to see if cold was a problem. I don't know when the car was used for someone's fun: night-time or day. Also, Mr. Walton repeatedly tried to sell me services and products I didn't need, like 4 tires on the 2d day instead of the 2 he said I needed on the first, this instead of offering the less expensive option of rotating tires front to back due to the uneven wear. He pressured me, both days, a total of 5 times, over and over asking if I wanted tires, which I continued to decline. He repeatedly and at times successfully tried to get me to buy what I now think are unnecessary and higher-priced services and products, saying that I "probably" needed them: changing transmission fluid (around $144) but later acknowledging that the maintenance light only said an oil change was needed. Ditto with cabin and air filter (around $111). Also, instead of offering me the less expensive work on the current disc brakes pads, or new brakes, to tame the squeak, he at first only offered me the more expensive service of machine-turning the "rotors" to smooth them out. I fell for some of it and after requesting so, was not required to pay the $25 to rotate the tires. Mr. Walton tried to convince me that his buying and installing new brake pads for free was the benefit I got (a service costing around $290 I think he said). However, that's less that the $340 he charged me for the rotor machining that didn't work. So no, he gave me no financial benefit. At the end, Mr. Walton demanded to know why I was asking questions about my car and what was done so much. He started to get flustered and raised his voice. Then, saying he thought I was going to sue him, he loudly and rudely talked over me, saying he didn't have to listen to me now. What he wasn't hearing was me saying that I had no such intention--I had even recommended a friend to the shop. But maybe I should take him up on his suggestion; I'm a former consumer fraud civil prosecutor and I don't like the feeling I'm being strong-armed or taken advantage of. read more

I have gone to several mechanics. Each told me that the van was supposed to ride bumpy. I finally went Walton's after passing the shop daily. They drove it and pulled it in the stall. They put oil on all the rubber components of the suspension. Jose is the manager, told me to drive it for awhile to see how much better it drives. It drives so much better.
