Do NOT take your car here for repairs, unless you want it to be worse than before you brought it here. I am so disappointed because I was really hoping this place would be my go to auto repair shop. The management seemed friendly and knowledgeable the first time I took the car in, but after taking it back a second and third time, and over $1,000 later within a month, the car is dying a slow and painful death. The problem is that the mechanics do not know what they are doing. I would have been better off trying to fix it myself. They are either incompetent, careless, and/or purposefully breaking other parts of the car, but denying it. Afterwards, I found out they have complaints with the BBB (Better Business Bureau), but again, they don't care, so don't take your car here. In the end, they didn't repair anything. read more

I have taken my car here religiously ever since I bought it 3 years ago, and had my oil pan gasket replaced here 2 years ago. While getting an oil change today, tecs informed me that my oil pan gasket is leaking again due to a faulty repair. These guys are lovely people, but in the area they operate in I don't believe they're do lasting quality work for everyone anymore. read more

We've taken our cars here for as long as I can remember. They are great for basic work like getting brakes replaced or batteries. If you need diagnostic work you might look elsewhere. Intermittently, our car would not start. Walton's said we needed a new fuel pump. We asked how confident they were that was the problem. They said 99%. $1200 later the problem was not fixed. Then they said it was a sensor. $275 later the problem was not fixed. They recommended we go to another shop that had better diagnostic equipment. They said it was the battery. Walton's was gracious and put the battery in at cost. Car still was not fixed. We moved our business to a Mercedes specialist. read more

BEWARE! That is the number one thing I will suggest to you if you bring your car to Walton's to be repaired. To tell my story... My car was having an intermittent overheating issue. I brought my car in and within an hour or so they came back at me with a solution: a water pump and a new timing belt. Seemed reasonable. $692.50 later I had my car repaired and returned that same day. I was very happy with the service. But then, the problems began. As I was driving a few days later, my car began to lose power and overheat. It had never lost power while driving before. I brought it back to the shop. It was suggested that a new thermostat be put in. I explained that my thermostat was only about a year old but they told me it would fix the problem. Price tag $250.95. I drove away but the same problem occurred. I again took the car back to the shop. I had been told I needed new front breaks the first time I went to the shop. I thought I would have those done in association with them AGAIN repairing the NEW problem that continued to occur. They told me they gave me a deal. Price tag $225.70 for the front breaks. But, the problem was, the manger kept feeding me different solutions to the power loss/overheating problem. This one would cost me $300.00. Another one would cost $200.00. But, they were all maybes. He could not tell me what would finally fix my car. Remember, I never had a power loss problem when I first brought my car in to them. That is just not right! To charge somebody a lot of money -- by this point over a thousand dollars and not be able to repair what is wrong with a car. An auto shop should have a definite answer! Plus, they should honor their original diagnosis and if they were wrong (as they were with my car) they should not continue to charge the customer new fees attempting to fix the original problem. In any case, I went to pay for my breaks and pick up my car. I started it up but it only drove to the end of their lot. There it died. Now, I have had some shoddy work done by mechanics in the past but I have never NOT been able to drive my car off of the lot. This was a first. Moreover, I was on my way to a very important meeting which this whole fiasco caused me to miss as my car was undriveable and I had to walk home. BAD, BAD, BAD! They did get my car to run by putting in, what I am told, was a new sensor. But, the fact is, I drove my car for approximately twenty miles and my engine light came on. Telling me that they created some new problem in my engine. My engine light was not on prior to taking it into Walton's! Moreover, a few miles more and my car began to make this terrible rattling metal sound when it was idling. It never did that before! So, they installed something incorrectly or broke something. Now what I am suppose to do with my car? Pay another shop a lot of money to fix problems that Walton's didn't fix and new ones that they created. This is just not right! All I know for sure is that they charged me a lot of money to NOT fix the problem I brought my car in for and created new problems that were not originally present. Where is Walton's honor and honesty? That's just the wrong way for an auto shop to do business! Of course, like most businesses do when they are given a negative review, they left a comment at the end of this review. But, it's meaningless! If they truly wanted to contact me and say sorry for the mix up and let us fix the problem, they could have called me. But, they did not! I paid them more than a $1,000.00 and now I have a car I can't drive. That's the story. Follow Up: For the record, I filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau against Walton's (Complaint ID#: 588334). They did not even respond to the Better Business Bureau. This is a good example of how Walton's treats their customers when they mess up. Be Warned! read more

Based on my experience explained below, they are not a good choice for good quality service. If they try to convince you that they did " this or that" or did not do "this or that" to save you money, they are probably doing that to cover-up their poor service quality. I hit a road hazard while driving in my neighborhood. This resulted in two blown out tires on the passenger side and a bent rim on the front passenger side. Walton's auto shop was nearby. So, I drove my car there. The manager told me that he will replace all four tires with low-cost tires and replace the damaged rim with a good used rim. I also asked him to check the brakes. He told me that the rear brakes required replacement. I agreed. Four days later the manager called me stating that the car was ready to go. The invoice for the above work was $1800. This car has Tire Pressure Monitors (TPMs) on all four wheels. As soon as I got home, I noticed that the TPM warning light was ON which is indicative of low tire pressure. So, I drove back to Walton's and showed the manager the TPM warning light. He checked to make sure that the tire pressures were correct and tried to rest the warning indicator, but he could not do so. He told me that one (or more) TPMs has to be replaced and the cost to fix that would around $200+. Alternately, to save money, I could do the "old fashioned" way - walk around the car to ensure the tire pressures are OK before I take the car out. When I questioned him further why he did not see the TPM warning light on the dash board, he tried to convince me that he was trying to save money! Here is my take on this conversation: 1. The manger (and the mechanic) did not know that the car had TPMs. 2. They did not check that the new rim had the TPM. If they did, they have could have used the TPM from the old rim. 3. They did not check for any warning lights on the dash board. If they did, they could not have missed it. 4. They did not know about TPM warning light till showed them read more

Dont take your car to this place. I dealt with Dave. it was a disaster. i find this place to be totally dishonest. i took my radiator and 3 gallons of coolant because we thought that we needed a new radiator. Dave calls me back and says the radiator has to be changed, so i agreed, then he calls me back and he says that there is nothing wrong with the radiator. how did it go from needing a radiator to NOT needing a radiator! and now he presses me that i have to pay not only for inspection but also extra for the labor. seems to me you have to inspect to determine if the repair is needed or not. then he tells me that he had to use a little bit of my coolant which i was okay with. when we go back to pick up the car and i ask for my coolant(I had paid over $50). he says that he had to use all of it! you used all of my coolant and YET, YOU did not have to change the radiator!! you ripped me off. and when I try inquire why, you get all defensive and act as though that you have done us a favor and tell me that i can go somewhewe else! you are very unprofessional and unfriendly and i will make sure that every on knows read more

I had a great experience at Walton's. My 57 Chevy Truck broke down with a bad fuel pump. Walton's was quick and responsive. While I was having the fuel pump replaced, I also asked them to repair/rebuild my transfer steering unit. They did a great job. When I picked up the truck it ran excellently. When I noticed a small leak, I returned and Walton's repaired it without question or charge. When I picked up the truck, it didn't seem to be running as well, even though all they had worked on was the steering transfer case. I returned it and together we decided it might need a carb rebuild. Eventually, we decided it was the distributor. Thought I needed a new one. But before we could replace it , they took a careful look to find it was just a lose wire on the distributor. They crimped and tightened the connection and she runs like a champ. They easily could have charged me for a new distributor or even a new carb and I wouldn't have known any better. But they are honest and helpful. They found the easy fix, fixed it in 5 minutes and did the right thing. They won a customer for life and great appreciation. They are honest, fair and do great work. I GOT SCREWED OVER BY THIS SHOP. I brought my 2008 BMW 335I in for a clutch replacement. They made me order the parts to avoid any liability. Once I spent my time providing the parts, they stated that they "don't know how to install" the OEM PARTS. The mechanic nor the owner took the time to google search the installation procedure. They installed the clutch improperly and destroyed it. I then had to PURCHASE ANOTHER CLUTCH KIT ON MY OWN WALLET. They even told me I had to show them how to install it and made me install it myself to avoid any liabilities. I WATCHED the mechanic install my clutch with no torque specs, no loctite, not even a clutch centering tool (I had to provide it our of concern for my own car). The shop gave me a $50 discount. For a $400 part that they wrecklessly destroyed. Avoid this shop AT ALL COSTS. They will prioritize their bottom like over being fair with you and satisfying their customer. I will continue to dismiss this shop until they make this situation right. read more

Came to the shop with a small problem, the person at front desk Jimmy his name - could not care less. He told me that they charge $140 dollars per hour ( really?, Audi of Pacific is charging about the same)and he can't give me an estimate of how long the job will take.He refuse to lift the car and just look how simple it is, instead he told me that it my take two or more hours to do and recommended to me to leave the car at shop so he can decide and call me latter. Really Jimmy? You don't leave your car at the place you haven't decide to business with. I went to Big Q Auto Repair and they did the job for $60 dollars in 20 min! What a difference! Jimmy you don't treat locals that way because we are the reason you have business here in the first place. Will never come back and never recommend. read more

Dave started off all smiles till I asked why the price of an inspection doubled. He then basically told me im lucky they didn't just scam me and tell me I needed a new radiator like the last place we visited, I didn't know that being honest warranted the noble peace price. Didn't like the pissy attitude coupled with the mentality of "hey at least we didn't scam you", to top it off they "used" a few gallons of coolant we bought them as they said they "needed a little" when all they did was an inspection.... Not sure how all that coolant was used (store said it was a concentrate that would last a few different full replenishments)when nothing was replaced. Dave again got defensive and pissy when questioned on this. This place doesn't like being called out for shady practices and stealing, the first words out there mouth will be, "you can take your business elsewhere" which we will gladly do. read more

My son's 2001 Nissan , that he had just bought so he could make his 40 mile (each way) commute to work, just stopped dead in the road in Redondo Beach and the mechanic he could get it to at that time, couldn't figure it out and recommending getting rid of it. This was devastating to my son. Got this referral from a friend to call Jose over at Walton's. What a Godsend! Jose figured out the problem and fixed it for a very reasonable fee. Elder exploitation. Those words got their attention. My elderly mother took her car in, as she has done in the past, simply to have her tires inflated and get a basic oil change. Instead (supposedly, I haven't checked yet), they changed both of the 'air filters', rotated her tires, 'topped off' all of the fluids, in addition to the oil change and inflation, none of which was necessary or requested. My mother drives that car less than 20 miles a week and they knew it. As a matter of fact, Walton's had installed 4 brand new tires on this same vehicle just three months ago, so why would they 'rotate the tires' and do all of this unnecessary work? To milk my mother out of money, that's why. My mother even told them that the tires were brand new and didn't need to be rotated, but they did the rotation anyway and charged her for it. Hearing this crap, I went there as her advocate and told them, in no uncertain terms, that she would not be paying for the tire rotation and asked if they had a database at their disposal since they had just installed 4 new ones just three months prior. Their answer? "It's standard procedure with an oil change." Never mind that the tires were patently brand new and the mileage had changed less than 400 miles since they were installed. They knew my mother but still took advantage of her, an elderly woman, and had no issue taking her money for unneeded services -- $370.00 worth they were going to charge her, for 'services rendered' over and above a tire inflation and oil change, which should have cost well below $100.00. After I showed up hotter than a swatted hornet, they gave me an earful for questioning their decision. In the end, they took the 'tire rotation' charge off her bill once I made my case clear that she would not be paying for it since they should have known better to begin with, but they did charge her for everything else, to the tune of $315.00. They should be ashamed of themselves for exploiting an 86-year-old woman. Avoid this place unless you enjoy paying for unnecessary services. read more

Since I was referred to Walton's, 15 - 20 years ago, I have not taken any of my cars to any other mechanic even while living out of state for a few months. I've had a number of different cars over the years, some clunkers and some brand new. Maybe you can relate: a mechanic that you can trust, that consistently does excellent work, and who is always more than fair with the pricing is a rare find. Whether taking in a new car for its regular maintenance or needing a major repair on an older vehicle, Walton's is the only choice. I've been ripped off at dealerships so many times that I won't even take in a new car for a free oil change and car wash. It has ended up costing me much more to replace the parts that were stolen during the short visit. Instead, I am greeted with Jimmy's contagious bright mood that manages to dissipate any foul frustrations resulting from car problems. Jimmy, Craig, and the mechanics at Walton's are not just a bunch of super kind guys, they have repeatedly proven to be trustworthy and to perform outstanding work. Been dealing with Walton's at this location since they used to sell Shell Gas here. Over 20 years now. As in any business the employees turn over, but one great mechanic, Franco, is still there. And the others hired since seem to be competent when dealing with the diverse cars people drive up on this Hill. And the ownership has not changed except for the fact that Craig Walton, son, has taken over the day to day operations. And he is a very fair man. He also has a license to sell "used vehicles" and those he's purchased at auction (including a few I've purchased myself) Have been a Godsend to many young first time buyers and others on the Hill. The current manager, Jimmy (an Irish immigrant) ,is a great guy who will go out of his way to accommodate your needs and won't rip you off. As in any other business they need to make profit and mechanic hourly costs are what they are, but you won't be overcharged. They are also well connected and more than willing to steer you in the right direction if your automotive issue is one that can't remedy at their shop. read more

Update on my current situation- 1-- 9/17/18- 9/18/18 I drove my car to Walton's, I had the AAA tow truck driver follow me to make sure that one, nothing happened on the way there and two, that I got it to a mechanic. AAA pinged my tank to get my car started I wrote on the key drop off envelope exactly what the AAA guy had told me- Fuel pump is faulty. The check engine light was not on when I drove it in and dropped it off. 2-- It is on my invoice that the P453 Evap code popped up after it had been worked on, that the check engine light came on and that it was fine to be driven. I was all set to go. The code would only be an issue for when I get my car smogged. 3-- I had talked to two other mechanics in the area, told them about my situation and what has come of it and both said that they would not let me have my car back with the check engine light coming on. They would check to see if they had caused it, checking their work and if it wasn't caused by the work they had just completed they would want to figure out what the cause was.
