I visited one day...the post says 2021 near the Walgreen's on Irving...I found out about the AMI jukebox app...decided to go to Silver Spur to use the app and the pool table...it's $1.50(6 quarters)...but the priority is the new AMI app...I thought it would be a good backdrop for my favorite songs to play...UK classic rock and Los Angeles Hollywood style from the 1970s..they seem a bit disturbed..friendly or disturbed...it's a small old bar on Irving near the Chinese cafes and groceries..different people and bartender...it's called "Shock Rock" so you might ask AMI why I keep popping in and not buying beer for $10 in SF...and want to restart my billiards table practice...because I moved with my parents and RIP! Come here if you like a cheap Midori Sour! I'm all about value and this is the bar to go to if you're in the neighborhood. They also have a backside parking lot which is nice. Vibes here are great, and as such I highly recommend respectfully! read more

After dinner, we were looking for a bar. Walked by Silver Spur on the way to the car and decided to check it out. My group of four stopped by on Wednesday, January 2nd around 8:30pm. I believe we got two jamesons and two wines. One red and maybe one rose? The pours were good (at least for the whiskey) and our total ended up being $28.25 with tax, but not including tip. Not bad for 4 drinks. This is definitely a dive like bar. Dark, a little dirty, but the bartender was fun and so were the patrons. One had a really sweet dog. The four of us had a good time for the hour or so we were here. We were able to talk and just shoot the sh!t. Also, they gave us peanuts in case you need a little snack. Common dive bar that is never crowded the times I've been there. Good when want to chill and get drinks served quickly, or play pool. The drinks are cheaper than at many bars, including cocktails and wines - quite a value considering this is in SF. Close to 19th Ave so it's easy to get to, and it opens at 6AM in case ever pulling an all-nighter bender and wanted to continue drinking. I cannot confirm or deny ever doing that. I wouldn't even given this place half a star. I visited this place for the first time with my friends, the bar tender was loud and offensive since the minute we entered and I am not exaggerating. We were not presented with a menu but on top of it asking the bar tender for drink options felt like a crime since she would scream at you as if it were a crime to ask for drink options. I quietly agreed to whatever my friends suggested to be safe and not face embarrassment from the bar tender as we were all out for a good time at the end of the day. Eventually as the evening passed by the bar tender started getting involved in our conversation and was making jokes with us. We were laughing back and playing along until she started abusing one of my friends for no apparent reason. Our entire evening was spoilt by this experience leaving my friend being insulted for no mistake of his. Another thing interesting about this place is that some of the guests were also pretty offensive as if they owned the bar, they lacked basic manners as they kept banging my restroom door loudly while I was in there. There are many great bar options in the city who care about their customers and bussiness, visiting here was a sheer mistake and if you want an offensive dive bar experience please do visit here, you will be welcomed by a loud and drunk bar tender abusing you at the end of the night, very very unprofessional !!!!! read more

Low light 70's paneling lines the wall with premium seating in front of three big screens, a small pool table and internet jukebox are entertaining. I only had a chance to drink at the Spur once in 2015, and the only reason I had to go there was to visit my dear friend Amy Pierce, who was a bartender there. Amy just passed away last Sunday of cancer, and I will miss her terribly, but she was the kind of down to earth person who attracted people to this place. An intimate unassuming dive bar which has been in the hood since the 40's, Silver Spur makes for a decent spot to catch up with someone over a stiff drink. It's narrow and the crowd consists of regulars. Most of the patrons are mellow with slightly glassed over eyes, while some patrons wandered in later with wide eyes and a party spirit. The bartender was friendly enough, but being that I'm a water drinker and my accomplice wasn't a big drinker either - she seemed a little confused as to what we were doing at Silver Spur. I much prefer Durty Nelly's down the way - as far as ambiance and crowd, but Silver Spur was still an exciting find in the hood, and it sounds like their jukebox has some real winners on it. Lots of bars in SF get called dives, but if you exclude Irish pubs, strictly ironic dives (Doc's Clock), non-ironic dives that still attract ironic patrons (Murio's), bars for when the irony crowd is burned out on irony and just wants to hang out (Broken Record), and bars that are really just for people too lazy to leave their damn neighborhood (Miraloma Club, Philosopher's Club), you don't end up with much left. Skip's Tavern, maybe, if you're talking Chicago-style dive. But for a Northwesterner like me, Silver Spur is the closest thing to a textbook dive I've yet encountered. Low ceilings, wood paneling, Alice in Chains on the jukebox (remember: grunge now counts as classic rock), and honest-to-god plaid 'n' flannel patrons. Just like Washington, beyond the Microsoft-Starbucks green zone. One of these days I really oughtta ask what these people are doing living in SF; I bet I'd hear some interesting stories. No beers on tap, so either get a bottle or (my preference) Canadian whiskey. Stiff and dirt-cheap. read more

So I walk into this bar, and there's a Pit Bull sitting on a stool. I know immediately that this is going to be an amazing experience. (BTW, the Pit Bull is named Sasha, and she belongs to the owners. She's very wiggly and was kind enough to snuggle with me a little bit before I ordered a drink.) I ordered a Bloody Mary, and then another Bloody Mary, because they were the best Bloody Marys I've had ... maybe ever. Perfectly spicy, not too boozey ... to die for. The bartender, Brian D., said that it's one of drinks he truly prides himself on, and I can see why. This place is cash only, but it's so reasonably priced and such a fun atmosphere, I don't mind making an ATM run. I only wish I lived closer so I could go there on the regular! read more

If you've not been here in a couple of years you owe it to yourself to give the Spur another try. Julie, the new owner, is awesome and has taken this bar a long way. Now don't get me wrong, it's still a proper dive with many of the same old regulars, but now there's also a younger crowd hanging out here, beers on tap, and some of the best bar staff in town. A great place to catch a Giants game, or unwind after a long day of work. Also of note, The Silver Spur has been serving drinks to thirsty citizens of the Sunset since 1955. read more

This is one step up from a dive bar: cleaner and modernized a bit but still retains a bit of its diviness. It's a cool and chilled place to hang out if you want a place to actually converse with some friends or grab a drink by yourself. It's a bit more quieter than some of the other bars around, and the jukebox is loud enough where you can still talk without screaming your orders. The patrons consist of mostly an older male crowd who seem like regulars. The bartenders are fine: friendly enough who help get your alcohol, tend to each patron, and go about their business. The pricing is a bit rare for other bars where it's not whole charges, but an additional .25 or .75 cents. Can't complain as it's cheaper than most places around that neighborhood. Nothing else that stands out, but I'd go back here again. read more

I've lived in the neighborhood for over 7 years. Ever since this place renovated, they tacked on the costs for the renovations onto the customer via drink prices as I saw them increase dramatically. That's preposterous and rude! The service is mediocre and environment, boring. I no longer bring them business. I can take my super cheap friends here and they won't bitch about the prices or conveniently go to the restroom when its their turn to buy a round. That is how reasonably priced the booze is. They serve it up with a smile, too. They only serve it up in bottles though, no draft beers here, and they only serve it up for cold hard cash so come prepared. Sometimes the guy sitting next to you smiles, too, though you may not notice for the lack of teeth. If this scares you there is a back entrance, right past the pool table, where you can slyly slip out, provided you do not get stuck to the duct tape on your stool or have to stop and projectile vomit from an overdose of cheesy metal blaring from the jukebox. All in all a fine "almost" dive that disguises it self nicely as a neighborhood bar. Worth stopping in if you are out that way but I wouldn't make a special trip. read more

Last bar within decent walking distance from my igloo ie cheap, cold apartment. This is, was, one of three in the radius of options. Out of the three one I am banned from and the other a depressing hipster toilet parked between here and a low level alternate plane from leftover Tijuana hipsters tourist trash hell in a negative dimension. Oh I was asked to leave once, but my friend was the wobbly one. We tested them later and no problem! My poor friend, he can't conceal his buzz well. It's an art kiddies. Try the apple moonshine. Will you stumble after five? I didn't. They wanted to check my pulse. Quite an ego boost, are you suggesting I am immortal, child? It's a bit of a playground here, for an old rock like me. Small, but plenty of walking space because it's rarely crowded. I can feed reserved notes into the digital jukebox and play any song I desire from yesteryears. No one groans or complains. Not even in silence because body language is relaxed all around. It's a bit peaceful here. It's a bit magical. I hesitate now; this is my last local sanctuary and don't want to attract a crowd. A crowd doesn't fit here. A misanthrope does. I'll trust the socialites won't bombard this hideout regularly, it doesn't meet their superficial level of being. Silver Spur is unpretentious. I'm almost hesitant to review this bar as I would hate for it to be spoiled by an influx of newbs. But it is in the Sunset, where few Mission and Marina folk dare to tread, so I guess it will be safe for now. This is the kind of bar you make friends at the first time you go. It's dingy, dark, smelly, and loud, but everyone who goes here is a buddy-buddy local. No drama, no hipsters, no fancy beers on tap - just an awesome jukebox, a pool table, and decent hardworking folks having a drink. Do not go on a weeknight unless you're okay working hungover. It's got filthy carpet, a supremely random jukebox and clientele that is as colorful as the bottles of liquor behind the counter. No beer on tap, no credit cards accepted, no trendy hipsters trying to look cool. Just locals, young and old, bellied up for a taste of delicious, affordable booze. My personal favorite local is Tom, a middle-aged guy who comes in three times a week. He sits at the bar, nose in a book, and will gladly argue the finer points of literature, looking up words in the dusty dictionary procured from behind the counter.
