I loved the energy and set up of this bar/restaurant. We went for my friend's birthday and the bartenders were very welcoming and accommodating. We reserved a few tables and were able to bring our own cake to celebrate! There's also a pool table in the bar and a Mexican restaurant connected to it. It's been almost a solid decade since I've been back to Chug Pub, and it's good to see some things don't change. It still has that vibe of SF sports bar without pretension, but alas some things do have to change. I like that the pandemic has turned this place into more of a locals bar instead of a frat bro hangout (no more beer towers). Casa Barajas is an okay addition, but honestly, the food used to be better. And, for more of a locals bar, the overhead music overpowers everything. The bartender was a really cool guy, he was super helpful with drinks and TV stuff. The lady that takes the food orders was really kind as well. The food here is SO good. One of my favorite bars in San Francisco! Such a great place to watch any and all sports games (they have so many TVs and are willing to change the channel if you ask politely). Everyone that comes here is super nice and gets along well, there is such a community feel here! Also with relatively cheap happy hour specials, how could you go wrong here! I love to take my friends that are visiting here to watch a game after showing them golden gate park and ocean beach! And after if you're hungry, the Taco Shop at Underdogs is perfect for some drunk food and just a short walk away! read more

On my favorites places to go when I was a student at SF State. I just so happened to stop by this past week to meet up with friends and was reminded of why this was always an ideal spot to go to on Friday and Saturday nights. I was here this past Thursday and it was the best timing and day to be there. It was not crowded at all and my group had plenty of space to roam around without bumping into other patrons. The beers on tap were only $3 as well which was awesome. I believe there were only 2 bartenders working at the time or maybe they had just switched shifts, not sure. The pool table was open and available as well which was nice. The other games I saw that they provide here are Jenga and a home arcade basketball game. This is my friends' newest hangout spot. I finally decided to grace my presence upon them this past weekend. Haha. =P We got the beer tower. $30 for 3 liters of beer. Kinda pricey. But it includes a free appetizer per tower. The garlic fries and nachos are pretty good. Well, I read that this pub's food is better than expected, but I was pleasantly surprised nonetheless. The slight char (not burn!) on the tortilla takes the burrito to the next level even though the ingredients inside are average or just below. The house chips are excellent. We checked out the outdoor seating at Chug Pub yesterday, and really enjoyed the experience. It seems like a really fun bar, and they were bumpin some cool music. They have about 8 or so tables outside (we were able to snag one of the last two open tables at about 7), and they're currently requiring folks to order food from Casa Barajas, which is inside of the bar, in order to be seated outside. Their beers are pretty reasonably priced, and the bartender was incredibly fast and friendly! He was attentive to all of the tables, running out and checking on everyone often. We'll probably be back during quarantine, and we can't wait to come back once operations are fully back to normal in the future. read more

"I'm getting ultimate fires at Chug Pub" is just about the sketchiest-sounding statement you could make about plans in the Sunset. It doesn't help that Chug Pub looks dark and stormy, there is a smoking room, the crowd is not the hip twentysomethings of SoMA, and overall ambiance reminds me of Moe's from the Simpsons. But once you get over the apparent sketchiness and appreciate it instead as divey, Chug Pub is a neat place: (+) Decent selection of beer on tap, and happy hour is $3 select pints until 6pm. We actually got there a little after 6 and the bartender didn't notice, but she still gave us HH on our first drinks. Cocktails are hit-or-miss and somewhat inconsistent in terms of strength. (+) Pool table and Pacman arcade games. Fee-for-service, but these games are entertaining in themselves and ridiculously amusing after a few dranks. (+) Many TV's. The extent to which I follow sports is mostly limited to what I passively absorb on my Facebook newsfeed, but for all normal people out there who watch sports, I like how there are plenty of TV's so you don't have to turn around and sit at weird angles. (+) The food is pretty amazing. Unlike overpriced generic burgers and fries you find at most bars (or worse, no food), Chug Pub gets creative and has used psychoanalytic optimization to concoct the best drunchies food of your imagination. We stopped by for drinks one night and saw some people eating what essentially looked like In-N-Out animal fries on steroids, so we made it a point to go back. The ultimate fries are indeed the ultimatum of bar food: a basket of waffle fries bigger than your face, generously slathered with cole slaw (yes, veggies!), pulled pork, bacon, BBQ sauce, jalapenos, and topped with a RUNNY fried egg and DINO CHICKEN NUGGETS. I know the exaggeration looks funny in a review, but it exactly illustrates my excitement :D Although the ingredients were mostly canned/frozen/bottled, everything together was delicious. Also, the portion was large enough to feed two hungry people for dinner (and probably more for post-prandial late-night drunchies). (?) Parking? I went here to for my 21st birthday with some friends and my boyfriend and we had a great time. The interior was typical pub fair, but what I first noticed was the Pringles dispenser near the door. Genius! The bartender was very nice and she told me a happy birthday, which I appreciated. Our group settled in the smoking room, which is a little section of room open to the side walk. My bf ordered the "Beer Tower" which, in my opinion, was absolutely beautiful, haha. As the night went on we had more drinks and just had a chill time. When we arrived at the pub there was hardly anyone there (we went on a Saturday night) but after a while more people came in, even a group of guys in fake moustaches and beards! I wanted to know what the reason for the fake facial hair was (and to ask for one myself, haha) but they left before I got a chance to. Oh well. The food was ok. I ordered a burger and fries and they weren't anything special, but my bf did say the food can be pretty good but it varies. What I didn't really like was that there were no toilet seat covers in the bathrooms, but nothing like setting some toilet paper down can fix. Came here for the pats vs steelers game on Sunday and had a blast. Sat at the bar and the bartender, Nicki, was very attentive to all the patrons there for game night.Major props to her since she was the only bartender the entire night. This pub is perfect to come watch any sporting events. There's food and good drinks and there are like 8 tvs here!! There's also a pool table and a basketball arcade game. So whats not to like?!? Crowds do get rowdy during game time but that's normal for a sports bar. We ordered 2 beers and the garlic fries, Bill came out to be about 23 dollars...not bad for a 3 hrs stay at th3 bar.
