Avoid!!! I brought my car to SRS auto in need of electrical issue which ended up being a relay. Also had oil, trans fluid done when all said and done I paid $1,400-1,500 . In 3 weeks my car was down again I brought it back to them and they said a spark plug popped out of my cylinder and they said $2000 to try and fix and if that didn't work I need to replace engine. Well they were the last to diagnose my car and someone "forgot" to put the spark plug back correctly. Those spark plugs were 28k miles in no prior issues passed smog. I had someone fix it right on the side of there shop for $250 and drove away. Saved myself from being played be careful I trusted these people and this is how they treat someone who brings in business. BEWARE!!! read more

Excellent quality prompt service... Took my girlfriend daughter's car in for an oil change. They were able to service the car without much wait. Afterwards they notified me of the damaged motor mounts and were able to offer me a reasonable price for the repair. The end result is positive. The car is running better than before and the report is that it does not tremble anymore now that the motor mounts have been replaced... Mechanic work was good, but this business is NOT honest. I brought my car in after an auto accident and made a deal with James to replace the power steering pump. After assuring me that it would only cost a few hundred dollars (on top of what insurance was paying for the accident), I was met with a bill $715 more than what I expected. Every time I called to request the final invoice, James was very dodgy on the price and kept saying that it would be a few hundred dollars. After paying the due amount and telling James that the work cost a lot more than previously discussed, he became very agitated and started raising his voice through the phone. James is realistic, no upsell or selling at all. He'll tell you what you can skim on, what's nice, and what's not worth skimming on. If you don't take his most affordable solution, then he either tries to figure out another option for you, or just let you know the safety concerns/risks (no scare tactic, no judgement, just being real). Ex. He said I really should change my old tires out.....butttt I can push on for maybe another 4mths max. From weird to normal maintenance, James will try his best in figuring it out. He also gives you the reality check of how much you can get away with....example, how many more mths until he thinks I really really should change my old tires (safety/winter rainy season) haha And what I can ignore for awhile longer to save up on. James can try to figure anything out for your car from weird alarm issues to AC issues to stolen converters, tires, oil change, windows, smog check, etc. Price: He'll offer you the most reasonable affordable solutions. We drive 20 miles there, 20 miles = 40miles to get the work done only by SRS. We don't trust anyone else. We are willing to wait to get our car worked on here. The place is busy but worth it. Wait Time: I am lucky to come on weekdays. This place is busy, and I want them to take their time on checking everything/or even doing an oil change because they'll do regular check for you too. I usually give 1-3hrs, go to lunch, wifi there or a cafe nearby (uber or have friend pick me up). read more

James is the most honest and hard working mechanic I know. I've been a client here from decades he's serviced previous cars to my present two Acura TL's and ML350. My 2004 TL was having issues with its clutch, so I brought it into James who flushed the master clutch cylinder and thought it would correct the issue. Unfortunately the problem arrived again within two days, so I left my vehicle for a couple days for James to personally drive and find out what the exact issue was. Long story shortened James ended up replacing the clutch master cylinder and another part which fix the problem. I didn't need a new clutch which the Acura dealer wanted $2,400.00 On top of James saving me money he also issued credit for the first repair of flushing the clutch lines out since that didn't correct the problem. I really wanted to be able to leave a 5 star review for SRS but.... I called SRS on the recommendation of the So. Cal. rep. for Pro-Cut brake rotor lathe company. Mr. Robert Oldfield, who knows the shop owner and services their Pro-Cut lathe. I called Mr. James Lim (shop owner) and described exactly what I needed done and the exact parts and car I was bringing in. I explained I was driving a considerable distance and would like to wait while the rotors were 'turned'. He was kind enough to give me an appointment for a day later and quoted me $85 for the job which was considerably less than another shop had quoted me. When I got there for my appointment, Mr. Lim looked at my car and said the price would be $125, not $85. Since this was still less than the other shop and I'd already driven down, I agreed. Once they got the wheels off and attempted to resurface the rotors, the tech couldn't get the adaptor to sit flush. They tried a few things and eventually had to give up. After I left, I called the Pro-Cut rep., Mr. Oldfield and explained what happened. He called me back and assured me that they Pro-Cut machine SRS has can do the job. Mr. Oldfield then went the extra mile and offered to meet me back at SRS the next day to sort things out...which he did. It turned out that the tech. didn't remove a spacer from the hub to allow the adaptor to fit flush. Obviously, they'd not worked on a 370Z or StopTech 2 pc. slotted rotors in the past or they should've figured it out. Thankfully, Mr. Oldfield knew what to do and got it all dialed in. He even supplied the tech with brand new cutting heads to make sure my rotors came out perfectly...which they did! Curiously, Mr. Lim was not at the shop this morning but, let his folks know I was coming back in...today, the price was $110 so, less than the $125 but, still more than the $85 I was originally quoted. I don't think I'd return to SRS unless it was specifically to have them turn rotors again but, it'll be a longtine before I'll need that again. Mr. Oldfield, you're the best! read more

No thanks. Came here for service for my car and absolutely will most definitely not come back. They seem to care about satisfying their long term customers over anybody else. We parked our car aside and proceeded to walk to the office to explain what repairs we needed. A gentlemen walked toward us and I will assume he was the boss of the place. I explained to him my car situation and gave him the paper for the service needed. He just asked if I can leave the car here and I was ok with it. And so I asked how long it will take. He wasn't able to give me a definite answer but will let me know as he will check. So we decided to just sit by the office and wait for him to get back to us. But didn't expect him to make us wait about 30 mins just to check and to tell us how much more additional time needed. Minutes, ticked on. We watched him went back to assist another customer that was before us, that is fair. We waited and waited. Another car pull up into the center and asked for his car to be service and the boss lady quickly tried to help him, and this is a customer that came after us... Then another car pulls up, a mom and daughter and the boss guy quickly went to them, the first customer was left to the side, waiting....He immediately tended to the mom and daughter and started servicing their car....that is not good...They chit chatted a lot too, so I guess they are long term patrons. We were worried at this point, as there seems to be no line or order system here. As of now, we felt a bit neglected. At this point t I was ready to go, because two customers that came after us already got serviced and one happily went on their way, while we are left..waiting... I felt he didn't have the time to help us check and I was afraid he forgot and left my paperwork in another customers car. So I just walked up and politely asked if he still has my paperwork. He shuffled around trying to figure out where he put it and mention it could be in the office. I just told him is it ok I get it back? and he shuffled around again and realize he kept it in his pocket. I took it and just headed to my car and left. We waited at least 30 min and no one helped us or even gave us any info on wait time... I work at a local school no more than a mile from SRS and a close family friend gave James and SRS a recommendation. I stopped by one day after work and James checked out my car. We took a short scenic drive around El Monte and he told me my brakes, despite the noise, were still fine for at least another 5k miles. I appreciated his honesty and told him to go ahead and fix the brakes anyway. A short time later the job was done and I went home a happy customer. Back then, their location was a small area located on Rosemead Blvd. The thing I love about this place is that they're honest unlike other auto shops. He's upfront about everything that you need, not what you don't need and say that your car will die without it. Though it's a far drive to South El Monte from where I'm at, my family still are loyal customers of James. Don't we all wish car repair was just a bit cheaper? Yes, and that's why I'm going with 4 stars instead of 5. Otherwise, I'm really happy with my mechanic who has been taking care of my Honda for 10 years now. The owner, James Lim, used to work for my dad in the restaurant biz so I'd like to believe that he treats me all right because of that (even if he says my name funny- it's a cross between Shauna and Sandra; Shaundra?). He's funny too, he always thinks I'm in school. Which is why I'd like to believe he charges me less too. Anyway, my little baby hit 150K a couple of weeks ago and I knew it was time to take it in. I called before hand to get a quote which was $200 for the service. I dropped off the car. A few hours later, as expected, James calls to say he's found "this and that" wrong and the bill would be...brace yourself...another $600. Combined with my broken tail light I was having him fix, the bill would be close to a grand. Oh geez. Okay, I expected that and told him to try to fix whatever he can and I'll go back (hopefully soon with an increased credit line) to take care of the rest. I picked up the car and the thing drove like a dream. It was like new. Hell, it was better than new. I could have sworn my car was purring. Or probably cursing me for not even taking it in for a super cheap oil change ($17). I'm sorry baby, we'll bring you back in 3K miles. Oh, and I guess we'll fix your valve cap covers and leaking coolant problem then too. Can you just make it to Vegas for me? Okay, we good? I would like to say this was a great shop. And no they don't offer a 10% discount for a positive review. I went in yesterday and was greeted by Billy and he asked what was I in for. I needed new brakes and he let me know that they didn't have my model as they specialize in imports but that he can still order them. Luckily there is an AutoZone right across the street so I just bought them then and there. I come back and he gets right to it. He explained that they also offer drum resurfacing and I honestly did not know if I needed that so he checked and said they're fine. I liked the fact that he didn't lie and say I was in dire need to get them resufaced just to make more money. As I was waiting he pointed out that my windshield wipers are bad and if I would like them replaced and I agreed. Then I had forgotten that my brake light was out and they also took care of that issue. This shop is an honest shop that won't take advantage of your hard earned money. I took my Mercedes to him several times to hope he can help me fix my car, He connected it to the computer and said it was a bad throttle body when it was not, so i changed it myself and he said he could not find the problem and said it might need an engine wiring harness, Basically he was totally clueless, and DID not want to work on my car, i practically had to beg him to work on it. i left the car there for two days and he did not even begin to look at it..... i thought this was a trust worthy place.... But he will still charge without doing anything to the car... I decided to take the car out of his shop and the Bumper had a chunk of paint missing from they way they park the cars, no care what so ever... I ended up taking the car to Jeff's auto repair in santa monica and they found the problem in one day. and it was a simple replacement of an Over Voltage Protection Relay. something so simple. and SRS automotive could not figure that out... I do not recommend this place to anyone... Rude and VERY unhelpful and would rather play a guessing game. Im so glad i took out my car, Jeff's auto fixed my car for $200. If i would have left it at SRS Automotive i would've spent more than the cars worth in just playing guessing games... I Practically gave away $120 to SRS Automotive for them to just look at it and still be no help.... Thanks for nothing, and Thank you for the paint damage to my Bumper on my car... Wow make sure you have an appointment, because these guys are busy! There's a very good reason why they're so busy. They're awesome! I'm a non-Chinese speaker, but they still helped out as best as possible. I went in for a simple oil change (they're a good $20-$40 cheaper than other places for synthetic oil changes), and spotted an issue with my tires (uneven wear). They NEVER tried to sell me anything. I knew what I had to do, and I actually wanted to have them change my tires, but I didn't have time and I don't live in area. Anyways, the work was done quickly, and despite a slight language barrier, they were still able to communicate across what was done, and what needed to be done (without forcing anything). I now have a go-to place for LA to have stuff done. (I live in SD). read more

The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is that they aren't always quick with getting things done. They're popular, so they're busy, so if you have a repair or even just need a smog check, bring a book. That said, I've been going here for 6 years and have had good experiences. James is helpful and honest. There have been multiple times where he discovered things things that needed to be fixed and when I asked him about the urgency, he was frank and didn't at all try to pressure me into making expensive repairs that weren't immediately needed. You can ask real questions and get real answers. Two weeks ago I had a substantial coolant leak, but I HAD to go to work that week. I asked him how I could get around the repair for two days and he was frank about what to do if my car overheated or the coolant all poured out and what I could expect. In general if I ever need to delay repairs, he's clear about the consequences. I have a VW, so more often than not my repairs require him to order a part and I either have to wait till the afternoon or come back. This may be common anywhere, but I'm just putting that out there that if you have a foreign car there may be an issue with having to order parts. You can also get a cheap, honest smog check here. I know there are lots of test stations everywhere, but after being heavily ripped off by two other places ($60 for the test and they charge you for the retest versus $32 with James and a free retest) this is the only place I'm going for my smog test from now on. The place itself is nice. There's plenty of space, you can sit inside or outside, it's quiet and not off a major street, they have outlets if you need to plug in your electronics AND THEY HAVE FREE WIFI. Like I said, the wait is sometimes longer than I like, but at least I can stream Netflix. read more

Ask for James! He does wonders! I've taken my car here for an alignment, major service, oil change, and rear brake light problems. I saved so much money since my BMW warranty is up!
