Avoid Castro Auto Repair Service. Don't be fooled by the 5-star reviews--they may only reflect minor repairs. This mechanic overcharges for both parts and labor and does not honor the warranty. I brought my car in for a suspension noise and was charged $2,240 for repairs, including a left lower control arm, inner tie rod, bushings, valve cover gasket, and an alignment. Four days later, the exact same noise returned. When I brought the car back, instead of honoring their work, the mechanic claimed it was "something else" and demanded another $800 plus an additional alignment--even though I had already paid over $2,000. When I asked about the warranty, they said it only applies to the specific parts replaced, not whether the problem was actually fixed. Paying thousands of dollars and having the same issue return in less than a week is completely unacceptable. I kept the repair order and documentation, and if this is not resolved, I will be filing a complaint with the California Bureau of Automotive Repair. Please get a second opinion before spending money here. He is a scam. See my invoice. Additionally, the invoice states the oil change was "free." Really? My future brother-in-law, who's been a regular customer here, recommended this shop and assured me I'd be in good hands--not overcharged or taken advantage of. Unfortunately, that wasn't the case. I've called around before, and most shops quoted me around $150 for a basic inspection. This shop charged me $230--and all I was told was that the car was in great shape and just needed new spark plugs. A few things that really rubbed me the wrong way: * A. I was referred by a loyal customer, and still paid way more than average for a basic inspection. * B. You'd think a referred customer would be treated with a little more fairness--not quoted 50% more than other local shops. * C. I was handed a clipboard to sign before being told anything about the cost. There was no breakdown, no heads-up--just "sign this" and then a surprise total at the end. It felt like I was cornered into agreeing without being properly informed. * D. Yes, I could've asked for the price--but it should be basic customer service to provide a quote or cost estimate before work is started. The inspection took less than 30 minutes. $230 for that and a brief "spark plugs need replacing" feels excessive. Honestly, it left a bad taste. I didn't give a 1-star review because technically, they did the inspection. But this experience felt rushed, overpriced, and lacking transparency. Ongoing starting problems: After they replaced the transmission and battery, the car struggled to start and showed warning lights. Repeated "fixes" that didn't work: Multiple times they insisted it was fixed but it wasn't. Never identified the issue. Toyota's quick diagnosis: A 1-hour visit to a Toyota dealer (Midtronics test) confirmed it was a battery issue. Refusal to share records: When I asked for the required repair documentation, the staff told me "it's our business, we don't have to give you anything." After pointing out invoice discrepancies, it escalated to the point where I was physically pushed. I have an El Monte police report filed on April 30, 2025. Yelp moderators are welcome to contact me for police report evidence. They declined to correct the battery problem under the conditition of reimbursing the Toyota diagnostic fee (fee incurred because of their error), even after acknowledging the battery was faulty. Needed state mediation: Ultimately, the Bureau of Automotive Repair (BAR) needed to get involved to obtain cooperation. Based on persistent issues, lack of transparency, and refusal to honor basic consumer protections, I cannot recommend this shop. read more

They charged 180 for an inspection and told me exactly what I told them needed to be fixed when I got there. They said they would inspect everything else to tell me what wasn't working and they did not. The daughter was rude and had an attitude every time she spoke to me. I just let it go because she honestly sounds like a kid working at her dad's store. When I arrived, I was greeted by Gio and Juan. I advised them of my situation. After Juan examined my truck, he said that I didn't have any leaks and asked if I have ever had my A/C serviced before because my system was very low on freon. I had not. He advised me that a complete A/C service would include freon and would improve the quality of cool airflow in my truck. I use to go to this place in Rosemead but they suddenly closed down! (Important to this I promise) So I was looking and looking, for a place to get an oil change(it was so last min)... Only after picking up, with the same issues still present - and being told they were in my head, did I learn boss (who knew what he was doing) was on vacation and walked two trainees through the repair for which I paid top dollar.
