I came to 520 Grill with my parents on a week getaway in Aspen. I have to say that despite these reviews on yelp, I found 520 Grill to not have a menu that was inspiring and was a bit overpriced. Upon walking in, order at the counter, grab your utensils behind you, and then walk over to the tables to the left. FOOD: 520 Regular burger. Nothing extraordinary of the burger, but it was standard burger. Overall, a better option in Aspen if you are looking for something faster. read more

520 Grill is probably the most underrated restaurant in Aspen. It has glowing reviews, but I never hear it mentioned by anyone, local or non-local. And when you look at the pics and realize it's in the basement of an office building with zero ambiance, it kind of takes the excitement out of it and you sort of question the reviews. Well, let me tell you, the 4.5-star average review is Right on Point! We LOVED this place and we found it by accident for dinner. Wasn't like anyone told us about it or we had heard about it, or did an extensive Yelp search or were highly anticipating coming here. In fact, we still had our ski clothes on and wanted something casual, and when we walked by the sign on Cooper Street, my brother's kids got excited by the burger pics. So I looked it up on Yelp, saw the 4.5-stars but was skeptical, but went in anyway....and were more than pleasantly surprised! Here's all you need to know...Bison B+B Burger!! Let me say that again...the BISON B+B BURGER!!! They chop up bacon and mix it in with the bison meat and then make a patty out of it. I wasn't sure if it would be that good, but it was better than good, it was Great! As Bison meat is pretty lean and somewhat dry, the bacon evens it out and adds flavor. I don't think it would be as good with a regular (cow) beef patty though as it might be too fatty. But with the Bison meat, it works fantastically well! The fries (both Regular and Sweet Potato) were very good, and I'm not even a huge potato guy. And surprisingly, the chips & salsa were great as well as the homemade potato chips. Oh, and the hot dog! But the chicken tacos and the pulled pork sandwich were just Ok, in my opinion. So, stick with the BISON B+B BURGER and you'll be happy! And do come here, it's very casual, very inexpensive, and I think you'll be pleasantly surprised!! read more

My parents and I were in Aspen exploring after a day of hiking at Maroon Bells, so we were pretty hungry. I came across this restaurant and we decided to go due to its high ratings. We wanted somewhere casual but with good food that would fill us up. I'm so glad we came here; it was one of the best meals of our trip! 520 Grill is located on the lower level of an office building off East Cooper Street. There are only a handful of tables here, as well as an outdoor patio. You order and pay at the counter, they'll call out your number, and you pick up your food. Simple, fast, casual. After perusing their menu, I knew I just had to get the bison burger ($9.60). It's served on a toasted bun with lettuce, tomato, onions, pickles, cheese, and house sauce. My dad got the same thing as me, and my mom ordered the kale and quinoa salad ($8.92) and the soup of the day (chicken tortilla). It was my first time trying bison, and I have to say it was really good. It's very lean and nicely marbled. The flavor is just as satisfying as a beef burger, but it's lighter and slightly sweet. Great texture and wonderful flavors. The chicken tortilla soup was also really good, perfect for the rainy afternoon. Staff is friendly and efficient. Prices are very reasonable. This is a great, casual place to go in Aspen. read more

When you are staavin and love burgers, sometimes the stars line up. What a great burger. I don't know if I have ever had a Bison Burger, but I won't forget this time. Juicy, meaty and covered in sharp cheddar, its more than a handful. With leaf lettuce, red onion, firmly ripe tomatoes and loaded with mustard, ketchup and mayo..... fresh cut from potatoes fries, crispy, beautifully battered onion rings.....all piping hot. And presented in a basket. Yep. Its good. Quality ingredients and lots of it - the portions are huge. I could barely finish my burger, let alone the fries. After a day spent rubbing shoulders and skis with the obscenely wealthy in Aspen, it's nice to settle into the chill and mellow (n affordable) vibe of this place. The portions here err in favor of filling you so come here if you're hungry! (which you might be if you hit up the conveniently located neighboring dispensary). I have a newly established cardinal rule for all burger joints (yes even though 520 serves tacos and salads it's a burger joint) if they offer bison don't settle for cattle. I couldn't tell the difference between my delicious!/juicy!/smoky!/sinful!/heavenly!/meaty!/vegan(jk) bison burger and a common cattle burger but I'm sure it was *infinitely* superior to its mundane counterpart. The accompanying fries were of a perfectly crunchy yet malleable consistency with a flavor both savory and tame. If you're a controlling person who needs transparency in all aspects of your life dw the kitchen is barely separated from the dining space so you can covetously watch your meal in its formative stages. The millennial staff is a far cry from electrifying but I blame society not them, my only real complaint is the wait time for carry-out orders, we ordered it at the same time as the rest of our food and we had to wait 15 minutes after eating before it was ready (there were lots of free condiments though :)) read more

Sometimes, am grateful that I get to travel for work. Being away from home so much often forces me to find good eats and every once in a while, I really do get lucky. 520 Grill is absolutely one of those rare finds. I stumbled on them purely by accident. Once I walked in, the place smelled so good, I just had to try it. I ordered the pulled pork sandwich platter with fries. Simple right? You have no idea! Imagine the freshest pulled pork you ever tasted, slow cooked to perfection. Then put that on top of 2 garlic toasted (I think) hot dog buns, add the sweetest homemade Cole slaw you ever tasted and then top it off with caramelized onions! Heaven! I ordered the sweet potato fries but the guys recommended the hand cut seasoned fries instead. I was not disappointed. Next time, I try the sweet potato's. I know 520 is known for their burgers, so if the pulled pork was any indication of how good the burger will be, look out. My only negative is the hours. After my first experience there, I must have told a half a dozen people about the place. But every time I tried to take them there after work, the place was closed. I think they would really do some major business if they stayed open later in the evenings. If you work till 6pm in Snowmass or surrounding areas and try to make it to downtown Aspen by 7pm, you can forget it due to seasonal traffic! read more

My favorite burger joint in the valley. The food is wholesome, healthy, and locally sourced. The cooks are masters at consistent execution; everything we have had has been consistently great. The service, well, it's kinda self-serv - they call your number when your food is ready. What we usually get: a pretty good vegi-burger and the best fries I have ever had. My son says the Bison burger is the best burger ever. Sher says the seared salmon sandwich has no equal. The place is simple, below street level, with the kitchen line visible to most of the seating. Outdoor seating is available when weather permits. You could probably cram about 40 people in here. Reasonable prices, great food, relaxed atmosphere - this is really one of my favorite places to go. read more

Please call for hours..off season hours are different..and last i checked they were open till10pm This place is amazinnnn and another wonderful pick for average joe eating in Aspen. I have truly never had such a wonderful chicken sandwich. We had to drive down to Basalt for our hotel and just wanted to pick something up in case we were hungry later on in the night cause we would be staying up. They took our orders on the phone and everything was accurate. We did not check our food till later on that night maybe 3 hours later and it tasted wonderfulllll even microwaved. The chicken breast was juice, the red onion was fresh and big chunks if you are a red onion fan and the cheese and sauce was greatttt. Definitely recommend this for dinner. The sandwich was 7 50 max and completely worth it. It was also packed very nicely for the 30 minute drive. I am glad Aspen has now opened up more average joe restaurants in the last 5 years otherwise it was all fine dining this and fine dining that.. Good Job Aspen! Absolutely recommend it! read more

520 Grill was my first dining experience after landing in Aspen for a road trip with the bros. A friend suggested we come here, so I was curious to see what the locals consider one of their top notch burgers. I got the 520 Bison Burger, which comes with a cheese, lettuce, onion, tomato, and pickles for $10. It's a burger at its simplest, but made with all fresh ingredients. The bison meat didn't impress at all. The patty was small and flavorless, just like a typical American burger. I'm a big fan of bison meat when it's done right, but here it was just OK. Not too much to rave about. I'm sure there's better burger places, even in such a small town as Aspen. For $10, it's not worth it, but that may be considered dirt cheap out there. Aspen is insanely expensive. Thankfully, 520 is not. It is the only place in Aspen that serves good food at normal people prices. While this might be expected other places, in a place like Aspen, it's five star worthy. 520 is tucked away, under the street level at the address noted. While it might look small from the street, they have a good bit of indoor and outdoor seating. You walk in, order and pay at the counter, and take a seat. They have a surprisingly extensive menu of hot sandwiches, burgers, quesadillas/tacos, and salads, featuring freshly grilled meats, seafood, and veggies. The quality is fantastic, and the flavor combinations are just innovative enough to make this something special. The organic bison burger I ordered was a large enough portion that I didn't miss having a side. If I win the lottery, I look forward to trying some other places in the Aspen dining scene the next time I return. Since this is unlikely, I also look forward to returning to 520. read more

We were operating under a strict timeline and chose 520 Grill since I thought it would be quick. Mistake! First, no one bothered to greet us when we walked in. When I finally asked if we could order, the kid behind the counter (he seemed to be somewhere between 12-14) told us to sit and he's help us. After 15 minutes of sitting, I went back to the counter. Turns out that the counter is where you order. Okay. Order placed. I can see that our orders (bison burger with fries and a chicken sandwich) are done and sitting waiting to be delivered. But the kid keeps getting interrupted by takeout order phone calls. Finally, someone else brings the order to the table. My bison burger was fine. It's pricy at $17, but that's about par for the course in Aspen. My wife's chicken sandwich? Dry as a bone. About halfway through our meal, a group of 3 or 4 kids (elementary school age) comes running in screaming and jumping. Based on their interaction with one of the workers, at least 1 was his child. This is the quintessential low-key, post-skiing burger joint. It's located on the lower-level of a building, is clean, well lit, and when we visited, staffed by friendly, helpful people. After a day of skiing, a buddy and I shared onion rings and fresh cut fries, and we had a Rayburn Burger (w/bison burger) and Philly cheesesteak. Both sandwiches were awesome and--relative to what you would expect to pay in Aspen--pretty reasonable. Although they offer the main-stay hamburgers and hot dogs, I also love the kale and quinoa salad, the veg-head sandwich and the sweet potato fries.
