I came in here with the longest nails I've ever had only to leave with extremely short, thick, bumpy, uneven nails. The person who cut my nails cut my middle finger on my right hand so short that when the woman who actually did my nails came over she asked if I wanted to even them all out, and I let her know that someone here cut them that way. I will say the woman who did my nails took her time which I appreciate, but I cannot believe how short my nails are now. The actual shape of my nails are extremely bulbous and thick at the base, bumpy, and round with a weird sharp point at the end. I asked for pointy almond. These nails are so unflattering they make my hands look short and stubby. I have been getting dip for 2 years now and have never been this disappointed before. I've been living in Astoria for about a year and had been testing out lots of different nail salons before finally finding Silvia's. The other places were fine, but my gel manicure would chip after only one week (or less). I've been to Silvia's several times now, and each time I swear my gel manicure lasts about four weeks. The women who work there are hardworking, and put effort and care into what they're doing. Especially love that they don't skimp out on the pedicure massage. The salon is clean and comfortable. Come to Silvias if you want a FAST mani pedi. I had an appointment at 4pm and was out in 45min. I got a regular pedicure ($20) and powder gel manicure ($40). My pedi was 10-15min, no one else was waiting and it just did not seem worth the price. Unfortunately I did not feel relaxed, I felt like I was getting rushed out the door. I believe Silvia was my nail tech. They get a star for cleanliness which is super important right now. Temp check. Appointments only. They get another star for the color selection. So many options to choose from! I just really wished she didn't rush me. I wanted to enjoy a relaxing afternoon but instead I was constantly moving my feet and hands since she was moving fast. I started coming to Silvia's when I lived in Astoria last year. Because of the amazing quality, care, and level of service here, I make the trip every two weeks from Midtown Manhattan. Not only is Silvia and her team attentive and caring, but they really will take your requests and do the best job. I have come in here with broken nails and toenails and no matter what I walk out looking normal again (my nails are frail so they break easily). I always feel comfortable and like my hands and feet will be well taken care of. The prices are amazing and Silvia even offers a reward after ten visits (free manicure). You really can't beat this! I've been searching for a nail salon in Astoria since I moved here in July. I was super excited to try Silivias after reading through all of the positive reviews here on Yelp. Unfortunately, I did not have the same experience as everyone else. I came in for just a dip powder (no pedicure) and it took an hour and forty minutes. Remind you - there was nobody else there, I was not waiting to be helped - the actual service took an hour and forty minutes! Since I was already late to work, I had to leave the salon with one unfinished nail. The nail technician kept touching my one nail to see if it was "dry" and continuously kept smudging it. Unfortunately, I could not wait any longer for them to fix this nail so I had to leave. I was still charged $50 for the service. I did return later at night for them to fix the nail at no cost, but I still would not come back. It was clear that whoever was doing my nails had no clue what they were doing. I also think it's crazy that they still charged me $50 despite the fact that I left with an unfished nail. read more

I've lived in Astoria for 5 years and never knew this place existed. Although a big pricey, it's worth it. I have the mini spa pedicure and had some serious side calluses that needed to be filed away. Maria took care of me - although she didn't speak much, she did a good job. I felt a little rushed when it came to the massage because someone walked in and wanted a mani and she had to take that person. The mini spa pedi was $30 and took 30 mins. I've been coming here for about a year to get powder gel manicures. Silvia's does the best manicure in Astoria and it lasts so long - about a month. I've been to other salons and their powder manicures last less than 2 weeks. All of the technicians are great and very friendly. read more

I wanted to give this place a higher review, but my nails tell the truth. 2.5/3 is the highest I will go. The problem is that the ladies rush too much and the quality is lacking. A typical powder dip would usually last me 2 weeks, but their dip lasted me 3 days before cracking, 5 days before peeling off my nails and 7 days before most of them were off. What a waste of money. My nails should've been worked on more so the dip would've stayed on longer. But no, 3 days later and the cracking started and the peeling started right after that. Their regular pedicure was decent, but I had to go back the next day because I needed another coat on each nail. They were nice about that but should've checked and asked if I wanted an extra coat. My toes were spotty and the extra coat was much needed. I don't think I would return because of the rushed job and low quality. You can see the progression of my nails as they fell off. read more

UPDATE: 2 hours after leaving I took a shower and the clear nail polish has COMPLETELY PEELED OFF!! I WISH I COULD GIVE THIS PLACE ZERO STARS!!! Dingy, disgusting, just the worst!! I could not stand to see what mess she would make out of colored polish, so I gave up and settled for clear. They added a silk wrap on my broken toe nail, which I DID NOT ASK FOR! The girl with the 'Evelyn' bird tattoo on her forearm gave me such an awful manicure; my nails are completely uneven and she made me bleed. The other nail tech, with the glasses, was very sweet and tried to help me, but it's not enough to save this s***hole. This is what I get for cheating on my usual nail technician ... If I could give this place a zero I would. The first time I went they were amazing. Good quality and service. But it all went downhill from there. The second time a went the nail tech did a horrible job on my nails. They all peeled and broke the next day (this was my real nail by the way). I recently went hoping that the last experience was just a one time thing and it'll be better. I was wrong. My pedicure was absolutely disgusting; different layers of nail polish could be seen and the nail was cut too short. My manicure was even worse. The nail tech cut my cuticles to the point where there was blood on multiple fingers and it got to the point where THREE separate ladies were doing my manicure. I went yesterday around 6:30pm for a powder gel manicure and a regular pedicure. I had hard gel on my nails and gel on my toes and I made sure I said that over the phone. First off, I was charged for removing the hard gel on my nails, which most salons don't do if you aren't doing a regular manicure. I feel like my powder gel is too bulky and uneven, the woman doing my nails didn't use the efile, but she just used a regular nail file to rush so that she can get me out of there by 8. Because she was using a regular file, she really bruised up my skin around my cuticles. The shape of my nails is also really weird, they're all different shapes. I absolutely hate my nails and will not be returning to this salon. read more

I have since returned to Silvia after many attempts to find another nail salon of equal quality and service. Precovid, Silvia would give you the best massage of your life while waiting for your nails to dry. Currently, Silvia observes safety precautions diligently (ex: temp checks, tracking sheet, and PPE) which makes me feel very safe. I really hesitated to write this review because I have had so many positive experiences at this business but my experience yesterday was one of the worst I have ever had. I have gone here for almost two years to get my eyebrows waxed and they have always done a great job and been super professional. However, yesterday when I went in the stylist who served me was talking on her cell phone and ended up waxing off a large chunk of my eyebrow. In an effort to correct her mistake, she trimmed the rest of the brow hair way down so the edges are much shorter and more blunt. I am someone who has thick and wispy eyebrows and have maintained them like that for years so to see them like this has been pretty jarring to myself and other people who know me. I like to think this was just a one time mistake since they have done great work for me in the past. However given the unprofessionalism of a stylist being on their phone and how poor this result is, I am truly unsure if I will ever be going back. They always do a great job on manicures and pedicures though, so please don't let this review dissuade you from those services. But I would definitely be cautious when it comes to the waxing. read more

I went to Silvia for the first time, on a random Thursday afternoon because the top rated place in the area was a disappointment(acrylic peeled within 5 days; uneven lengths). Silvia is so sweet and extraordinarily attentive. She made it clear that if I had any issues, she would be happy for me to come back and have it fixed. She was very patient when I added more requests to my session. I really admire her work ethic (she is a great business woman!) I have gone to a couple different nail salons in Astoria over the past 2 years and stumbled into this one about 2 months ago because of the convenience - it's about 2 blocks from my apartment. I started getting regular manicures and pedicures and was pretty impressed. The pedicure was great, wasn't rushed, they do a great job with the polish. Seems like something I shouldn't have to point out, but I've definitely had some hack job paint jobs at other salons. The pedicures last well over 3-4 weeks without chipping. The regular manicures last the usual week or so. I started getting gel manicures the last 2 times and couldn't be happier. Gorgeous colors, great polish job, and lasts awhile. Pricing is great! $25 for a regular mani/pedi and $40 for a gel mani/regular pedi. Really can't beat those prices! read more

Worst service I've ever received in a nail salon. First off I get my nails done every week. Just moved to Astoria and was looking for a new salon and based on reviews and the fact it's so close to my house, I decided to come here. Came in for a mani pedi. My pedi was fine and I decided to get dip after a brief conversation with one of the women there who's name I don't know. Martha was very nice and started doing my dip. After the first dip I was already not liking it and the other woman who u had spoke to earlier said it would be fine after being completed. Side note I'm the type of person who shows all of my emotions on my face so I know they both knew I wasn't happy. As she was finishing up, the other woman made a comment in Spanish to Martha to see if I was liking my nails and they giggled and Martha told her she would ask me once she finished. I understand and speak Spanish.... When she asked me if I liked it I told her no and I was really sorry but I wasn't happy. She asked if I wanted her to remove them and I told her yes and that I understood she took a lot of time but I truly didn't like how they came out. The other lady in Spanish told her that she would have to charge me an additional $10 to remove them. I quickly responded and said that it would be cheaper for me to keep them. Anyways I decided to remove them and get just a plain color. Ended up being the worst and most expensive mani I've ever received. I would have tipped Martha regardless and she would have been taken care of. What really upset me was the fact that they spoke Spanish about me as I was sitting there and wanted to charge me MORE for something I was very unhappy with. That's not customer service. I moved to Astoria recently and needed a nail spot. I happened to stumble upon this place on yelp and saw that it was very easy to make appointments on their website. The first time I went I just needed a pedicure, I like to get regular mani/pedis a lot over the summer but other than that I don't get them aside from my birthday, Christmas, or a big occasion. I decided to try out their color gel before going on vacation upstate this summer and after that I was hooked. I've been here 5 times now. The OPI color gel will last me up to 3 weeks (the other one they have will last a full 2). I'm pretty tough on my hands, I cook and wash dishes at home a lot and I work in healthcare so I'm constantly washing my hands. I was so impressed by how long the color gel lasts and looks that I now am getting color gel regularly without any special occasion or reason. Another plus is that I feel safe going here with the COVID precautions they are taking. The only down side to this salon is that I wish they had more OPI gel colors to choose from. read more
