Unfortunately this place isn't of great quality. I appreciate the non-toxic products and really wanted to love it here. The dazzle dry manicure I received started chipping after only two days. It also looks messy around my cuticles with some uneven lines. I will likely just take it off soon and it hasn't even been a week. Overall treatment could've been better too. When I went to soak my nails in the bowl of water, it was cold. I asked if they could warm it up a bit and they brought back scalding hot water. It hurt when I put my hand in it. Then when they fixed the temperature, the nail tech just dipped my fingers in the bowl and immediately brought them back out. No soaking time at all. She also wasn't very careful with cutting around my nails and there are still some rough spots. The hand massage part was basically her putting lotion on me very quickly - no real massage. Online booking through their website was super easy. Note that they accept cash and Venmo. I came in for a men's mani/pedi and it felt unlike your typical nail salon -- in a good way. It's small, so it doesn't feel busy or crowded. The vibes are chill; no Celine Dion and Whitney Houston here. It's a very minimalist experience and the aestheticians take their time to do a really nice job. I also felt that the products they used were much nicer; no resonance of harsh chemicals. This is a hole in the wall salon in the UES specializing in vegan based nail polish. I got the essential mani and pedi. They don't use acetone to take off nail polish as acetone dries the skin and nails. Instead they use an oil based solution which takes longer but perhaps beneficial? The pedicure is a 3/5 as they don't have actual chairs with running water. Instead they pour the water in a basin and doesn't cover your whole feet. So they don't really wash your feet or calves. She only used soap for one foot and didn't replenish for the second. I paid $10 extra for the dazzle nail polish which is their vegan equivalent of gel without the UV light. It's day 2 and no chip so far. Will I come back? Maybe for a mani but not a pedi. read more

Very disappointed. I asked ahead of time the price for a regular manicure which was $26. The appointment went great, until I went to pay and it was $37. I asked why and she explained I had quick dry. I explained that I didn't ask for quick dry and wasn't ever told about quick dry. She still charged me the $37. I really didn't find that fair, and I feel tricked. It was set to 67' I was really cold and asked if it could be turned up a little to which the lady said that she's hot. Um ok? Then I decided to switch to regular polish and another lady went to get it saying in Spanish "She didn't wanna pay extra $10?" in a sarcastic manner to which my lady laughed. She didn't realize I understand Spanish. It was a very inappropriate comment, especially in front of me. The pedicure itself was below average doesn't worth $80+$10removal+tip. The massage was not relaxing at all, felt like she was just going up and down with no pressure. For the callus treatment she didn't try to do a good job, barely scrubbing even after I asked to do it harder. The water in the basin was cold the entire time. While the woman doing my nails was very kind, the mani pedi I got was terrible. I paid $80 including tip for a basic mani pedi and already less than 24 hours its chipped and dry and clunky. both the mani and the pedi but especially the mani. I love that it doesn't smell like nail polish there and that it's vegan but it's a very small place, there is no running water in the basins and the products that use droppers are used on everyone and don't seem to be sanitized. Overall I would say a below average experience. It pains Me to say it because I wanted to love it- I got this mani pedi in preparation for labor and wanted to treat myself to something nice that ended up being subpar. read more

I do not recommend this nail salon. Today I had a walk-in appointment. My experience and manicure were overall below average and not a good experience. One reason I will not be returning to this nail salon is because of how poorly my manicure turned out. See the picture below. Secondly, I didn't like how I was treated compared to the white customers. ONLY I was asked in the middle of my manicure before she put the polish on to pay. Never in my life have I been asked to pay in the middle of my service. Which I was very taken aback by and had to reach into my bag after my fingers had just been filed, cleaned, etc. Although I thought it was strange, I just assumed that was procedure at this nail salon. Happy there is a non-toxic nail salon in the neighborhood. Have been here a few times. Decent selection on non-toxic nail polishes. Not happy with the pricing of my last experience today. I was charged more for my toes because I chose the dazzle dry nail polish. I was not told until after I paid that it was extra. When I picked a color I asked if it was new and they responded yes. I am unhappy I was forced to pay more for my already expensive pedicure. I am happy to pay more in general for a non-toxic salon, but putting this nail polish with the regular nail polish and not notifying me that is was more prior to putting it on my toes is not ok. The service was good until that happened, I tipped on the full amount I know it's important to do so, but they should not have charged me for the dazzle dry nail polish. The place is clean and I hope they make their customers feel more welcome then I have felt. I have one particular place in the area a few blocks away where I generally get a monthly pedicure. Unfortunately while I love it at the other place it's getting a little too expensive and too busy. 60-70 for a spa pedicure down the street - so I decided to try a new place today I found this place on yelp and walked by a few times. What drew me in was the simple decor, the yelp reviews and the fact that they use eco friendly non toxic products and nail polish. It was a very small but inviting space with wicker chairs and individual lamps for each customer . To give you perspective of how small, this place could fit no more than 6-8 clients at a time. There was no wait on a Thursday at 615 when I went. It was interesting to me that they didn't have a faucet with a jet for the pedicure stations but rather a "bowl" of water for each customer where you would soak your feet. It was different as there was not a lot of water but it was sufficient to cover my feet. The techs would take the bowl at the end of the session and scrub them in a back room. ( I heard someone scrubbing one since it's a very small place) I felt bad they had to carry the bowl of water which has a cover away once the pedicure was over as it looked cumbersome but not necessary heavy . I got the spa pedicure for 42 dollars which I thoroughly enjoyed. It came with a 10 min foot massage, callus remover and thorough scrub. All the products felt very luxurious and were fragrant but pleasant, not overpowering . The tech applied the nail polish well and really cleaned my nails. She took her time and overall I was there for an hour and a half. They do have something called an nyc manicure which is much faster . My only complaint would be to have stronger fans for drying ( I could barely feel the air) One thing that I've noticed from other places is that every time I get my nails done, I get a headache from the nail polish and my husband complains of the chemical smell as soon as I get home from the salon. The only exception is a place that uses zoya nail polish. I did not have any headache after visiting Takunya. I chose the Aila nail polish but they also have smith and cult which I looked up and is apparently a high end eco friendly non toxic nail polish . I definitely plan on returning soon. read more

The people that work here are super friendly and attentive, but I am definitely disappointed. To start, they charge $12 to remove gel polish even if you are getting a manicure. I have never been to a nail salon that charges for removal if you are getting another service done and wasn't told I would be charged for it either. She scheduled me for an appointment, but I was there for over an hour because there were not enough technicians for the amount of appointments. I decided to get the manicure with the "gel topcoat" that they claim lasts two weeks without chipping which is an extra $8, so now my nails cost $38. I got these done yesterday and multiple nails have already chipped significantly. I feel like I was ripped off. $38 for a manicure that didn't even last overnight. I get my nails done maybe twice a year and wanted these to look nice for my first job out of college, but I would have been better off doing it myself. read more

12/13 Update: Returned for mani/pedi and had a much better experience with a different nail tech who was gentle on my cuticles and delivered exactly what I wanted on my nails. Definitely my new go to nail salon. Very pleased. 11/20 Update: Unfortunately I was right about my nail tech having a very heavy hand as I've found cuts on the cuticles of my toes and they are sensitive to touch making it very uncomfortable to wear socks/shoes. I will definitely return once my cuticles have healed but will not sit with the same tech even if she's the only one available :( Just had a mani pedi today and I plan on being a repeat customer. Very clean, relaxing space. No strong odors. Love the 5-8 free polish (only carry non toxic brands) as I am transitioning to non toxic products/lifestyle. I took off a star only because the positioning of the foot bath for painting is a bit awkward but not terrible and my nail tech had a very heavy hand which is a bit uncomfortable around my cuticles but otherwise she was VERY sweet and accommodating. Was so excited to see this beautiful nail salon in my neighborhood, I booked an appointment right away for that same day. While booking, it requires a pre payment of the service (no tip can be added, so I learned that you have to bring cash as well... which makes this odd, as well as seem slightly strange in a business...); so I paid and booked and prepared cash. I showed up at my appointment time, 5 minutes early. The ladies looked so busy, so I just said hello and they told me to wait. Then 2 minutes after I walk in, another lady with no appointment "just wants a polish change" (which turned into 20 minutes of her changing her mind), they took her immediately... which I didn't understand, I said I had an appointment. Finally, I sit in the chair and wait while the "just a quick" lady next to me is trying on her 5th color, and the staff says "oh you still need to wait". So after, I waited a total of 30 minutes, they started doing a regular pedicure when i booked and paid for a spa one... I lost it at that point: - I had BOOKED THIS APPOINTMENT - I had PREPAID FOR THIS APPOINTMENT - I SHOWED UP ON TIME AND EVEN SPOKE TO THE STAFF IN SPANISH Finally, after speaking Spanish, they told me: - owner isn't really here, on holiday most days - staff doesn't speak any English - staff doesn't check appointments or honors them only on a first come first service basis. I finally had to show them my confirmation email and receipt before they would do anything. I sat there and did the pedicure, as I couldn't even bear the process of trying to ask for a refund, but I am just so appalled at this. I wish they had multiple locations in the city and Brooklyn. Their polish and polish remover are eco friendly and non-toxic. I arrived 5 minutes early for my appointment for my standard Ancient Love mani+pedi and found 6 patrons in the small studio with only 3 nail techs. I was told to wait outside. I waited for 30 minutes for my appointment to start. At the time that my pedi should have ended, the woman next to me who has just had her service completed stated that she needed to settle up because she has NOT booked an appointment and was a walk-in. They gave a walk-in my appointment slot even with me being 5 minutes early. To make matters worse, the woman giving me my service had never done an Ancient Love mani+pedi, and was referencing the menu to figure out what needed to be done, and even then I needed to point out that I had paid for a hand scrub. I booked an appointment through Regi and came early to my appointment; they were ready to service me instantly. Just not as many options as other salons with real gel, dip, etc. but they stand by their natural products and have a very aesthetically pleasing space. The technician was very sweet and did her best to be gentle with my nails (I came in with terribly bitten ones). I would say 4-stars because my nail technician left in the middle of my drying process after dropping some oil & adding a shine coat--granted it just past closing time and her co-worker was staying behind with another client, she was all dressed and ready to go before mentioning anything. My "gel-like" manicure also incurred the typical slight smudge/tiny dents of a regular manicure even after 20 minutes of drying so I'm curious to see how long this lasts. read more
