    Lamb ceylon

Went for lunch today with my wife and it had been years because we no longer live near it. It was so good. My wife had the lunch buffet and enjoyed it. They brought out fresh garlic naan for her. I ordered the lamb ceylon and it was fit for a king! I also had the onion kulche which was fantastic.

    Empire Dinner For Two

I have to start off by saying this is the most delicious, comforting, and authentic Indian Cuisine I've ever experienced. Simi's has been a traditional treat for my family and I for many years! The owners and our favorite waiter Julio are all very friendly. There has never been a dull moment at this wonderful place. My family and I decided to call in an order of the Empire dinner with the a variety of their signature dishes, including the Saag Paneer & Chicken tandoori to name a few. These dishes never miss and always hit the spot when we're craving authentic Indian food! I highly recommend you give this wonderful place a try. A must try if you're in the Fredericksburg and Crossroads area, you won't regret it!

Lunch buffet. Vegetarian options and a little side of chicken tikka masala

This was my first time dining here and it was a positive experience. 5/5 - Customer Service. A hearty welcome, a friendly smile and the attentiveness of the waiter left a big impact. 5/5 - Atmosphere. About six coworkers, and I ate here for lunch. Although a busy time of day for a restaurant, we were not rushed. The buffet was very neat and clean, as was the entire dining room overall. 4/5 - I am relatively new to Indian cuisine. However, I experimented and tried some new things. My personal favorites were the chicken curry, creamed, spinach, and freshly baked flatbread.

Here is a review of Simi's, a favorite of many Yelpers on review. The restaurant is found in a retail center, across from a larger mall in Balcones Heights. There is ample parking, and first impression is the aroma of food in preparation as it wafts across the area from the several eateries in the area. I must confess this is my first visit for Indian cuisine ever!! Marjan and my boy Buddy and his beloved Eva are well acquainted with the nuisances of Indian foods, ergo, my initiation to this iteration of comestibles. We entered the restaurant without reservation, immediately greeted by a very agreeable staff and directed to our table. The environ is casual, with images of Indian art and tapestries adorning the walls. The ambience is quiet, allowing easy conversation at our table. We began our adventure with aperitifs. We chose two beers to share, the Himalayan blue, and the Taj Majal. The Blue is a pale lager, smooth on the palate, a flavor that we all found most enjoyable. We also sampled Taj Mahal, another lager, with a bit of malty taste. All agreed both were flavorful, but the edge was given to the Himalayan! We began our exploration of the menu with the vegetable samosa, a staple, the crust light and tasteful, the inner vegetables pleasing in flavor. We all agreed this was a winner of an appetizer. As there were four of us at table, we were unsure of ordering, but our waiter suggested the Empire, a sampler of dishes, that could be prepared for our party. Included: white rice and naan. Excellent suggestion! Included were chicken tandoori, excellently prepared, tender and moist...delightful. Saag paneer, the Simi offering of spinach and cream sauce and cheese, again a favorite for the table. The lamb curry was tender, mild in flavor, just melt in the mouth perfect. The chicken masala was offered in a tomato-based yogurt sauce, again delicious. There was offered a vegetable dish with spices, quite the compliment to the entrees. Marjan, most the experienced in Indian cuisine, thought the spices mild and comfortable for the palate, not the over-the-top spicing that some would enjoy with Indian cuisine. Think, for example, the very spicy Mexican foodstuffs that push the limit of the Scoville scale. Everyone at table considered the entrees most enjoyable, and from the perspective of yours truly, a veritable newcomer to this flavor of cuisine, a hearty thumbs up! Marjan rates this eatery 5 origami boots! We will definitely return and can definitely recommend! Enjoy Yelpers!!

    Ceylon lamb and basmati rice

The food and service are both excellent. They are not currently offering a buffet and the menu is not very descriptive. This may not be the best choice for folks not already familiar with Indian food. None of the meals come with rice or Naan; everything must be ordered a la carte. Lunch for 3, including appetizers and sides was $60. I greatly enjoyed the flavor of the Ceylon lamb, though the meat was quite tough. It was a satisfying portion size when paired with a side of rice, but not enough for leftovers. My friends each ordered the tandoori chicken. Those were very generous portions and they could of easily split one order.

Does anyone know if the Lunch Buffet is back yet? I saw a couple of comments from August of 2022 that said the buffet was good.

The buffet has not come back yet. Watch for any updates on Facebook.

First I feel I should explain that I live in the total opposite area and outside the city so this place is quite a long voyage. Nonetheless, I feel as if I have to say, I love this restaurant. This new building location is way better than the last. No more random pot holes everywhere and no more worry of your entire car getting stuck in the parking lot because you happen to drive over a hole that's somehow three feet wide. I am such a big fan of this place infact when they closed to relocate I got depressed knowing I couldn't have their food for the time being. Now for the actual review. Walking into this restaurant you wouldn't expect much from it. A small buffet stand and a normal seating arrangement. They sat me down quite hastily and the waitress came immediately to pour water for you to quench any thirst you may have had before entering. Before I got my food I took a sip of the water she just poured and instantly the veil of the tandoor palace was lifted and it revealed its true nature. This place is a sanctuary run by the divines, the waitress a goddess. The water was the most refreshing water man could ever have. I felt like I was drinking tears that a god had cried over its subjects that just so happen to also land in the fountain of youth and this waitress is the only inhabitant in the mortal realm that has access to the said fountain. and she blessed you with this holy water by pouring it inside a piece of the holy grail. After experiencing pure ecstasy from the divine hostess I finally walked up to the small buffet to grab the same thing I have always gotten. Rice, with their chicken tiki masala. Shaking from the previous experiences I've had with this divine food I could hardly hold my excitement. Sitting down to finally have a bite, I felt a calling from heaven and the need to pray to god for blessing me with a sanctuary and meal such as this. With the first bite I am instantly face to face with the vision of this chicken I have swirling in my mouth. I've never seen such a chicken. He tells me that even though he has died, he is happy to have ended up in the hands of a chef that personally cooks for the gods on his free time and that the chef treated him such care he didn't even notice himself pass over to the afterlife and to be added to such an exquisite dish such as this and that he is happy to have brought someone like me such a feeling of immense joy. Hearing this from the sacred chicken I begin to cry tears of happiness. Pulses of oxytocin, dopamine, endorphins, and serotonin surge through my body and with every bite I experience pure heaven. I can't explain to you enough how I feel about this food more than what I am typing right now at this very moment. Then finally the Naan shows up, maybe a little late but just in time for me to experience a new joy of just having the chicken tikimasala and rice alone. Placing my fork down, I grab the piping hot naan and notice the slight glisten of butter over the surface of the Naan like a bar of pure gold, with pieces of what seems to be garlic and maybe cilantro and parsley. I continue to use its garlic buttery goodness to scoop the food on my plate and proceed to shove it into my mouth. I full heartedly believe an old man would say, "My stomach is jealous of my mouth for being able to have its way with it first." Plate after plate you would want to devour even if you would taint this holy sanctuary with the sin of gluttony, maybe try to hide your sin under the napkin they provide to you like the French do for ortolan bunting. Slowly I became full and still had some food on my plate. One shouldn't waste food here or more like who would want to. You'd rather sit there for an extra couple minutes so your stomach could settle and let the food get cold because you'd still wish to eat it. At this restaurant if one should find a hair in their food (not saying you will or i did im exaggerating!) you'd take it as a blessing from the divine in the kitchen and still continue to eat it. (Around it of course.) Meat balls were also pretty good.

Best food ever. Here in SATX, for years, I've (begrudgingly) frequented Madurai Mes a few blocks away. You enter the lobby, and it feels like the staff is having a competition over who can ignore you. It's cramped and dingy, and there are AC hoses snaked throughout the place, and I've never been able to eat there for under $30, but they make a pretty good thali. And so in my brain, the best indian food comes from Resturants you don't much want to eat at. Nawabi was huge and well lit and dare I say clean? It felt slightly dated, and culturally a bit off - like maybe it belonged to an Ethiopian restaurant before - but classy. So the food was going to suck. The menu is expansive and seemingly interesting. It was missing my thali. It did have a number of dishes that offered a few things to try. I haven't, as an adult, longed for food served from a bucket - but Biriyani seems like a solid choice with which to fill one. My kid doesn't care for dosas, but does he like chocolate dosa? I don't know, but were fixin' to find out. Some of the weekend-only options had me salivating. I ordered the Plain dosa with mutton curry. This is a novel combination to me, and maybe also to my waiter, who had me point it out on the menu. It was good, the dosa was thin and crispy with the right amount of edges, the sambar was just ok, the chutneys were good, mutton curry was excellent. I skipped dessert, and opted for chai masala. But I should have really gone with some of their kulfi which looked super tempting in its display case. In short, everything was pretty awesome. I have my next visits penciled in to try the lunch buffet, peruse the weekend menu, and track down the AYCE pani puris. The only problem was that this time - on a Monday night - I was the only customer there, which was weird. But the staff was super welcoming, no Deliverance vibes, so I went with it.
