Ok these guys are wild but honestly the best dentist I've ever had. Before Dr. Flamm i used to have persistently bleeding gums for years after brushing and thought it was just normal but after I started coming here they went away, I think he's just much more detailed and thorough than other dentists. You just kind of have to roll with it; you will hear and learn a lot of interesting things when you are in the chair. I think I learned more than I thought could be known about pretenders to various eastern European thrones. But when I changed my insurance and Dr. Flamm wasn't covered anymore, I still came back here to have a root canal done and paid out of pocket because I knew he wouldn't screw it up, it was worth the peace of mind. read more

Dr. Flamm and Steve gave me the best dental experience I've had in my life! I laughed so deeply and the experience was so wholesome I feel like my day was made - and this was an 8am appointment. My teeth feel great and Dr. Flamm is also the first dentist to explain to me the importance of flossing properly so as to maintain ligament health around the tooth. He showed me where in my gums there was evidence that I should improve my flossing technique. I don't know why my previous dentists missed this, but I'm grateful for it now. Flamm is a Sham! Listen, I understand why there are good reviews here. Dr. Flamm and Steve have an entertaining schtick and back and forth. That doesn't make up for bad dentistry. I got several filling from Dr. Flamm and on day one a filling cracked, shifted my bite, and sent stabbing pain into my cheek. Several of the other fillings were too tight to floss so I had to come back. Dr. Flamm "fixed" them, but cracked several in the process and I had to have the fillings replaced. Not six weeks later I had a filling from Flamm fall out and needed to come back to have it replaced. And just last week another one came out--so far I've had at least three fillings fail on me, and it's barely been six weeks! At this point I didn't trust Dr. Flamm's manner any more, and I went to another dentist who kindly comped my X-rays and confirmed that my fillings were over filled and the broken one would need replacing. It cost me an arm and a leg, but I would gladly pay it again to not repeat this disaster of treatment. On the recommendation of my new dentist, I informed Dr. Flamm's office that I would be leaving the practice and would like my dental records to review with my insurance. Dr. Flamm's response was dismissive, belittling and hostile, no surprise to me. The man is unprofessional and from my experience, in the wrong field. I had such a great experience today with Dr. Flamm and his partner, Steve. They were both hilarious and Dr. Flamm told me great stories to help me relax during my annual cleaning. He was very gentile and stopped a few times to ask if I wanted to take a break - which I didn't because the cleaning was painless! They really care about their patients and I ended up chatting with them for about 15 minutes after my appointment about traveling, the neighborhood, and food. Their tiny dog was there too (I didn't realize until the end because she was so quiet and good) and she was as much of a sweetheart as her dads are. I feel extremely lucky to have found Dr. Flamm. He is very professional & I appreciate the unique & attentive care he brings to dentistry. Do not believe the reviews. I can see that some have been removed. The negative ones! I do not write yelp reviews but this person seems dangerously unstable. I have reported him to my provider and will be reporting him to the American Dental Association. This is by far the worst dentist I've ever experienced. He is aggressive, hostile, and a con artist. The man took 14 xrays of my teeth. When I asked if everything was ok he flew into a rage. I was genuinely afraid of this man. He then started screaming and his lovely assistant came running and tried to calm him. Nothing would stop him. I left with him continuing to scream at me until I was literally out the door and on the street. In addition to this madness. He had already shown me the previous patient's xrays and chart (whom I had met). Wildly unprofessional. And ranted about other people who work for my company- using swear words, derogatory racial statements, and negative body remarks. This person exposed me to an extreme amount of radiation with no respect for me. A single question garnered a disproportionate and aggressive response. The insurance provider stated that no one should ever perform more than 10 x rays and that's if you're having dental surgery. I was getting a basic cleaning. He said he still had 4 left to do. I am now finding a new dentist and will have my xrays completed by a calm professional. Steer clear. Beware! read more

I just want to start off with the fact that up until now, I have been terrified of the dentist. It wasn't until I started coming to Dr. Flamm that my fear disappeared. I have been a patient now for roughly two years and plan to remain one indefinitely. Dr. Flamm is a wonderful dentist. He explains everything, every step of the way, which helps to inform me of what is happening. He has a wonderful bedside manner and is a pleasure to be around. He is very gentle and doesn't rush through any work I have needed to have done. He is truly wonderful. Steve, the office manager, is an extremely kind and friendly person. He knows me by name and also remembers details of my life that I have shared in the occasional chat while waiting for my appointment. I moved to the US 7 years ago and have never found a good dentist in NYC - until I found Dr Flamm. He made what would have been a painful and drawn out experience elsewhere (3 crowns - yes I have English teeth), well, enjoyable. OK, the procedure is uncomfortable by nature but I am a nervous patient and would usually have been climbing the walls. He looked after me so well and immediately made me feel at ease. His assistant extraordinaire Steve works closely with him and patients, explaining what they are doing throughout, something other dentists do not tend to do here. Dr Flamm is also technically very good - I am very impressed with the work he has done on my teeth. I highly recommend a visit to see Dr Flamm - one of NYC's best dentists. I don't think I've ever received such poor customer service in my life. I will say that Steve was excellent - very friendly and personable. I felt very comfortable in speaking with him to schedule the appointment and as he took me back in the office to prepare for the appointment. Now, fast forward to when Simon (the dentist) arrived. He was extremely talkative and at first I thought it was his way of making me comfortable as a new patient, but it got to the point where it was incessant and unsettling. For example, I'm not sure how he started talking about a dog groomer cutting off a dog's ear and gluing it back on, or how he and Steve were discriminated against abroad while returning their Jaguar rental because he is Romanian and Steve is Syrian. But nonetheless, the appointment continued. Simon continued rambling, at times incoherent, while taking x-rays. At times the equipment he inserted into my mouth was uncomfortable (several times I said ouch or wait while he was placing the equipment in my mouth) and the equipment shifted when he stepped away to take the x-rays. Well, not surprisingly, some of the x-rays did not turn out well. At this point, Simon starts yelling at Steve that if he (Simon) didn't have to act as dentist and assistant, this wouldn't have happened. Then he yells at me that if I stay still, the x-rays would come out properly, to which I responded, "I'm sorry, the equipment poked me, but I'll try to do better with the next round." And that was when Simon lost it. He began screaming at me, "DO NOT SAY THAT I POKED YOU! I DID NOT POKE YOU! LET'S SPEAK ENGLISH HERE!" I responded that I didn't say he stabbed or injured me or drew blood, and I asked if he was upset and if we would be okay to continue this appointment. He just kept yelling "I DID NOT POKE YOU!" at which point I told him I didn't feel comfortable continuing the appointment and would like to have my things and leave. Simon then began yelling that he knew that I did not feel comfortable with him working in my mouth and he could sense hostility from the beginning of the appointment - um, I guess that's why he was telling me about his personal experiences with discrimination abroad, because of the hostility he sensed? During this entire ordeal Simon, who is a very large man, is standing over me yelling and sweating with his glasses steaming up, and essentially blocking me from leaving the office (whether or not intentional). I said again that I felt very uncomfortable and I was also beginning to feel afraid, and would like to have my things and leave. Steve then intervened to help me get my things and get to the front of the office, while Simon remained in the back of the office slamming things and yelling. Steve quickly confirmed my contact information, said he would be happy to send the x-rays that did turn out well to the dentist of my choosing and that he was sorry things did not work out differently. I said I'm sorry I used the word poke, at which time Simon came storming from the back of the office yelling that he was a human being and had feelings. Of course I tried to immediately leave the office, but the door was locked from within and I had to be buzzed out - just in the nick of time when Simon was within inches of me. I was seriously afraid (considering I was alone and locked in an office with two individuals, one of whom was yelling at me and extremely upset) and am thankful Steve was friendly and able to diffuse the situation, even if only temporarily. I couldn't make this up, even if I tried. And, there are several cameras throughout the office if there is any attempt to refute anything I have conveyed. I say all of this to say, steer clear of this office if you value your safety and peace of mind. read more

Not only are they hilarious (which is a bonus in my book), but they run a super-tight ship as far as hygiene is concerned (which is SUPER important to me!) - keeping everything SPOTLESS and making sure that it stays that way. When it comes to the level of care I have received it can be characterized as nothing short of STELLAR!!! I am a pretty easy patient - no major work, no fillings or the like, but I do, like many, have a fear of dentists and needles and Dr. Flamm has ALWAYS put me at ease and done a great job keeping my teeth and gums in tip-top shape. Steve (office manager & assistant to Dr. Flamm) is also a gem - working WITH you and not AGAINST you when it comes to fees and insurance. I am writing this because people should know how great they are...recently, I had dental work done in Beverly Hills from a well-to-do dentist and he did more damage than helped. I went to Dr Flamm because he was my dentist in New York NOT only did Dr. Flamm fix the problem he saved me from a lot of pain. Update: apparently the dentist decided this morning to write his own "novel" today after this review has been up for years. He has waited until he's had a memory lapse I see. I wholeheartedly feel like a victim from this experience, in which I still feel pain from this dentists mistake everyday in the "incisor." If you read the dentists new comment below, you can see just how nasty his attitude and personality is. I surely hope yelp does not allow victim shaming on its platform. What a horrible horrible response to someone who had a horrible experience in his chair that he apparently cannot even remember. I am creditable, I don't review much now a days because I like to keep my good places to myself. But, please, listen to me when I write about this particular dentist. I am afraid of dentists, but the "new equipment" and cleanliness (which is top notch) of the offices and rooms attracted me. Simon did work on my teeth, he proceeded to fill some of my molars on the upper right side. Fine. Things going well, it's quiet. There was no official dentist assistant and Simon called the front desk man to the back to help assist (ok, so maybe he was in dentist school). The dentist, Simon, yelled at this man and put him SO much that spit dropped into my mouth. Disgusted I cringed. Simon is so busy yelling, he drills into the MOST FRONTAL molar and hits MY NERVE. He packs up my tooth and told me to go see another dentist. WHAT? 2 months later, I have constant ache and my nerve is now infected. I have to have a root canal. BECAUSE of this dentist. I have no insurance; I pay 1700 for a root canal, this does not include the 300 start, 400 after; 600 after again and another 1000 for the actual porcelain cap which i could not afford until a year after the root canal. Ugh. I get the tooth, still pain. Why? I imagine its because my nerve wasn't ready to die or be taken out or etc. It's been 2.5 years, and just January I am now mostly*** pain free but with blackness surrounding the affected tooth (which, if you remember from the beginning of this review, was just suppose to be a filling) Why haven't I sued for malpractice you ask? I would. Needless to say, this office called me 5-7 months after the fact looking for the last bit of payment. about 70/100 dollars, they were told "you know what you did was wrong" They've never called back. Staggeringly Unprofessional - Well the good news is that I did not make it past the appointment phase. After a few e-mails back and forth with Steve (Dr. Flamm's assistant?), I called him. The first words he spoke with an attitude were, "we are starting off on the wrong foot". He continued to speak to me with an abrasive and condescending tone. I understand people have bad days but his approach was out of line. I blew it off at first and finally at the end of the phone call, I told him I did not appreciate the attitude and would take my business elsewhere. I then e-mailed Dr. Flamm. I own a small business myself and thought he should know what a potential new client experiences as a first impression of his business. His response was extremely defensive and the story twisted. I responded to his email explaining that I was trying to help him as a business owner by making him aware of an offensive employee and I would be writing a review about my experience. He then told me he was going to contact his attorney about being threatened and harassed! Is this place insane??? After reading several other reviews of this place I realize that the dentist and his longtime buddy, Steve, are unstable and very unprofessional. I am just glad this happened before I got into his chair. I am writing this review to hopefully alert potential new clients to do a little more research before trying them out. I went for my first visit at this dental office today and i had told them i needed a deep cleaning and it was stated that everything was covered by my insurance. I requested if i had any extra money left for fill in's to be done as well. The dentist numbed my mouth and right before he started the cleaning his assistant came in and said i had to first pay 500$ i asked for what he stated the fill in i said i did not have the money on hand then i was told to "get the fuck out" i started crying asking why couldn't i just get the teeth cleaning they accused me of being hostile because i asked why an estimate was not given to me before the numbing. They both blocked my entry way and harassed me when i was trying to leave i had to pull out a phone camera for a clear way to get out. I was in debate of calling the police but i was also in a rush to work i contact my dental provider and had to post a claim because the Dentist still took all the funds as if he provided service when he did not.The insurance provider also stated that they over price all work at that office.
