The good is the atmosphere,the service and food generally very good. Since ownership changed Caesar salad is forgettable. They used to have an exceptional product now it's a meh. I'm glad my group decided to stop in on our way to another spot on our road trip itinerary of NE area. This place is pretty cool lots to do! It's a restaurant, it has a seperate bar, it's a glassware store - so you can shop very nice designs, and the basement is where they do the actual glass blowing, you can watch them at work! The restaurant was actually closed at the time. That was ok. And I didn't order anything at there seperate cutsey bar either- there was no time. But I enjoyed perusing the store, really nice pieces. Great place to find a wedding gift for a happy couple. And watching the glass blowers make the pieces was really cool. My fav part. We've haven't been to Simon Pearce is sometime but it's as good as always. We had the sesame chicken and salad that was very good. Our server was very attentive and pleasant. But the thing that really stands out is how beautiful the dinning room is. Overlooking a waterfall and river it screams New England at its best. Hubs and I were so taken by the setting of this fine restaurant and hand blown glass store. The interior is peaceful, warm and inviting. Our table overlooked the river and mill waterfall. We had a cheese sampler with honey and almonds, and shared a salad. Hubs had the halibut. Our server was very professional, attentive and friendly. Against my better judgment, I ordered a pavlova even though I was full. This dessert was most impressive. It was peach flavored baked meringue topped with whipped cream, garnished with diced peaches and pineapple. To further enhance our dining experience, we were entertained by a balloonist carting his grandkids literally on the river surface, then gently lifted over the waterfall and above the covered bridge! read more

Stopped by just before lunch to inquire about reservation for the evening for myself (was attending a class at King Arthur). Was told no reservation possible but stop by and they might squeeze me in or I could be seated in the bar area. Arrived around 5:40. Despite several open tables in the dining room, I was told I could not be seated. Okay. Went to the bar. The dinner menu from the restaurant is not available at the bar. This, horseradish-encrusted cod could not be served. Now, I dined there 3 nights per week every 6 weeks for nearly 2 years. Had the cod every time. Shall never return. Apparently a Thai restaurant in Lebanon does the same recipe. A recipe, I might add, the Chef at Simon Pearce gave me. read more

We enjoyed a late lunch at the Simon Pearce restaurant today. The service and hospitality were fantastic. We were greeted cordially at the hostess station, our server was incredibly personable and attentive. All of the other staff we encountered were pleasantly engaging. We sat outside on the screened-in porch and enjoyed watching a group of young people jumping, flipping and diving into the river from the covered bridge and large stone structures. On to the food, we shared the green green salad which was very well composed and tasty. Hubs had the special Poke bowl, I had the ricotta gnocchi - both dishes were delicious. And, oysters deserve special mention - yum. I thought our server, although efficient, seemed ambivalent and not overly welcoming (but maybe was having a bad day). On the other hand, the fellow that greeted us on arrival and took us to our table was full of positive energy and quite enthusiastic regarding the restaurant's romantic setting. We wanted to come for the falling water view but when we made the reservations, it stated that we could not request where to sit. So we took our chance that a late afternoon lunch would afford such a chance. Alas, no. Our reservation at 2:30 had us sitting by a window that just overlooked a stream. Maybe I should have asked. Anyway, the service and food were excellent. I had the lamb shoulder which just melted in my mouth. The meat was so soft. Steak frites with fries also great. We had such a fantastic meal at Simon Pearce! Well worth the drive to Quechee. Our meal was significantly better thanks to our fantastic server, Suzanne. She was so friendly and kind, and genuinely seemed invested in every single table enjoying what they had ordered. We took her excellent recommendations but just really appreciated her being so nice and attentive! This restaurant has the kind of menu that makes it difficult to choose because everything sounds so good (plus there were seasonal specials we had to take advantage of, too!). The cocktails were excellent- the passionfruit Aperol spritz special was so good that I honestly stuck with it throughout my meal- and the wine list is solid, too. Of course, one of the advantages is getting to enjoy your drinks in some gorgeous Simon Pearce glassware. You will probably be tempted to take home a souvenir! Our food was also outstanding, honestly even better than we expected. We started with the cheese soup (which was incredible) and the Vermont cheeseboard, which was one of the most interesting cheese boards I've ordered at a restaurant. The accoutrements were made in house, including the most unique fennel chutney and some mini scones. The cheese selection was great, and Suzanne was able to advise us on our cheeses based on our preferences. I had the ricotta gnocchi as a main and really enjoyed it, although it definitely felt like more of a spring dish than late summer. You can tell the gnocchi is homemade- it wasn't all quite the same size- and the pasta was light and fluffy. My partner had the braised lamb shoulder, which was tender and flavorful. We split the green salad- even something as simple as a side salad became delicious here. For dessert, we decided to order the caramelized lemon tart, which was an incredible special. It was so perfectly tart that my mouth is watering thinking about it! The crust almost felt and tasted like crème brûlée. Honestly, I hope this is added to the main menu because it was outstanding. We didn't have a view of the falls, but the view from the other room is still lovely. However, it was very, very loud in the room (we had two extremely loud tables, which of course isn't in the restaurant's control)- some sound muffling panels might help with the overall atmosphere. Absolutely loved this spot! Not only was it a gorgeous setting but the food was phenomenal. It was super cool to watch the glassblowing and a great perk with having our toddler in tow--he made quite a few visits throughout dinner! There was even a little deck to watch the mill and waterfall. The food was also delicious; nothing was disappointing and they accommodated a gluten and dairy allergy beautifully. Our server also brought me a gf df dinner roll that was probably the best I've ever had? I asked for more! The only thing I will say is that, although she was professional and did a great job as a server, she was not particularly warm or friendly. She was an older woman and seemed irritated with us and with the fact we had our toddler there, even though he was extremely well behaved. We were on a family trip and had no other option than to bring him, and he sits through dinners rather well and we walked him around the store if he seemed antsy. So I wasn't sure what the coldness towards him was for--she literally wouldn't even acknowledge his presence. I am not asking for everyone to fawn over my child at all, and I get not everyone likes kids--that's fine! But she literally ignored him completely and wouldn't even look at him. I did not feel like we were welcome there because of it, even though he did great. Only bummer of the experience. Would still come back and highly recommend to anyone visiting the area! read more

I have loved this place for years. I use to go every year for my birthday but haven't been there in over 10 years. They have changed a bit but overall it is still as beautiful as I remember. Walking in you can see the glass that is blown right downstairs. It feels upscale but not pretentious. I didn't feel out of place in normal clothes. We started with the cheddar soup, which is one of the reasons I came. It was good but it wasn't as smooth as i remembered. The bread they serve is delightful dipped into the soup. My ultimate favorite thing is no longer on the menu. It was a lamb burger and it was Devine. So I had to go with something new. I got the sesame chicken with noodle salad. It was very good. It is fresh and flavorful without being overly sweet. Friend 1 got the burger and fries. She couldn't stop eating it. She said it was the best burger she ever had. Friend 2 had the garlic chicken with orzo salad. She loved it as well. The salad wasn't heavy. Overall great. The view is amazing. Do not miss going downsides and seeing the glass blowing in person. One friend was in a wheel chair and was able to get it and down to the glass blowing and then out to see the view which is nice. I already knew the prices were on the higher side and the food is quality so we didn't care. The 1 disappointment was the local soda. It was really delicious but came In at $8 per bottle when at the store in town they are well under $3. This is a must if you are in the area. read more

We had high expectations as we had been recommended this place. So I booked a lunch there for my Mom's 75th B'day. The check in process was a bit of a mess. I had asked for a nice table as it was my Mom's B'day. They put us by a window which I was thankful for. When the waitress arrived she was not very friendly (did not look happy to be there & just wanted to get the process over with). My veggie Shepards pie was so dry & flavorless. I could have made a better one at home. The top almost seemed burnt . Every one was underwhelmed with their meal. The waitress didn't mention my Mom's birthday once. So the only real pro of the meal was the view. Just very disappointed for this caliber restaurant, especially considering the occasion. read more

This is such a lovely place for a special event, though many people may just go for a gourmet dinner out. Always make a reservation as far in advance as possible, because this diamond is always busy. The food is fresh, local and organic to the degree possible, creatively prepared, and artistically presented. The ambiance is exceptionally elegant with warm, rustic woods, wrought iron, and gleaming glass undoubtedly made onsite. The views from the windows are stunning regardless of the time of day or year with views of the Ottauquechee River and the Quechee covered bridge that spans across it. The dining room service is top notch. We didn't use the bar as we spent our pre-dinner time browsing the enclosed store admiring the handmade glass that (during the day) you can watch being made right downstairs. If you like fine glass wear, you need to explore this place and the town Woodstock only 13 minutes away. We came up from Boston which is about a 2 hour trip. We stopped here first because we didn't have reservations to eat at Simon Pierce. Guys..., if you like Whistle Pig Bourbon, next door is the Parker Tasting room. Guys you can sip and the girls can shop. Simon Pieces has a great shop, and they also have an area that sells some seconds. You must go down to the basement and watch them blow some glass. When we were there 4 guys were blowing, cool to watch! I ended up purchasing 2 Old Fashioned glasses, they are SOLID! I also bought one of the molds they used, great piece to use in my man cave! They wrapped up the glasses very well so that you can pack in your suitcase. Everyone there was very nice and helpful. This is a Cool day road trip coming from Boston! read more

I was given a beautiful tall, heart shaped bud vase some years ago.(Highgate Heart Bud Vase). It was perfect for single buds and made my heart sing every time I looked at it. Sadly I recently bumped it while in the sink and it broke. I looked online and they had some seconds available but, only through their retail stores. I called the store in Vermont to order and the woman who answered took my order. She was so helpful and lovely. Not only can you eat here but there is also a store with their glass creations and an area downstairs to watch the glassblowers at work. The restaurant itself is very nice and the service is always great. Their quiche is fluffy and delicious, the salmon is cooked perfectly and the specials are a nice touch (this time it was the shrimp fried rice - yum!). Came on a Saturday around 5. They were busy, but the bartender Brendan let us peek at the menu while we waited. He was honest that they got sat all at once and asked if we could hang for a minute while they caught up. We happily waited and it was definitely worth the wait. Simon Pearce is the home base of all the Simon Pearce Glass stores. They create amazing glass pieces at this factory. In addition to their glass factory they also have an amazing restaurant as well. We are at the restaurant and had the most amazing meal. For starters we had the parsnip soup which was so velvety good. For our entrees my girlfriend had the horseradish cod fish and I had the Angus NY sirloin which was cooked perfectly, served with mushrooms and fingerling potatoes. It was cooked perfectly and tasted even better. For dessert we had the Pavlova which was delicious. The service was top notch, everything perfectly served. Excellent attention to detail. The table we were given was with the view of the beautiful waterfall. The setting was very romantic. read more

What a disappointment. My wife and I have been eating here periodically over the last 30 years. The food was always fresh and creative. We started with an old favorite: their cheddar soup. It was lumpy and not particularly cheesy...too much flour in the roux? My wife had their quiche: it was warmed over and dried out. I had fish and chips. I was served two large deep fried fish (haddock?) put on top of old, barely warm French fries. Inedible. The bill for three people was over two hundred dollars (including tip). Absolutely not worth it. Whoever is managing the food service should look hard at the quality and appeal of their product. read more

Genuinely awful experience. My friends and I had a reservation for 8pm to celebrate a birthday. This was a few days after a severe snowstorm that left the roads icy, and, in many places, unplowed. Anticipating the delay that this might cause, we called ahead to warn that we would be late. The man on the phone informed us of their strict 15 minute grace window. We told them that the GPS anticipated our arrival at 8:15, and we would do our best to hurry. But just as we reached the host, the clock ticked 8:16. He informed us that he could not honor our reservation, even though we had exceeded the grace period by only one minute. We pleaded--citing the snow, the ice--but he did not budge. Instead, he offered one piece of advice: had we considered Chili's or Applebee's in West Leb? Frankly, I find this suggestion silly at best and offensive at worst. There are a number of similar-caliber restaurants in the Upper Valley that he could have suggested, if he felt the need to suggest one at all. Instead of taking his advice, we went to Carpenter and Main in Norwich. If you're reading this, I highly suggest you take your business there, too. read more

My family and I had a wonderful experience celebrating my dad's birthday at Simon Pearce. Such a cool spot! We had reservations for a late lunch and were seated by a window when it was our time. Beautiful views of the river, and just beautiful atmosphere overall. The silverware they use is of course by Simon Pearce, and it was cool to know it was made there! For food I had the sesame chicken with noodles. The chicken was tender and the flavor was delicious. I especially enjoyed the noodles~ they were light and complimentary to the chicken. My fiancé had the beef stew and said it was nice and hearty for a cold day. He just wished there was a side of rice or bread to go with it, but that was just his personal preference. My mom and sister got the salmon and they both raved about it. Finally, my dad got the steak and of course really enjoyed that~ it was cooked to his liking and the sides were delicious. Overall we really enjoyed our food and overall experience and will 100% be coming back! Not to mention the glass blowing downstairs is such an awesome attraction/thing to do before or after the meal. I have been to Simon Pearce, in Quechee, Vt, 3 times I think but apparently never wrote a review. It is a lovely place though recently suffered some severe damage in a hurricane/ flood. The interior is all repaired but the waterfall had damaged so much around, outside, it is barely recognizable. The Bridge over the river there had to be rebuilt. The rocks under the waterfall are all exposed, the sandy bottom sculpted into waves. Eventually it should be back to normal outside but at least it is already back to normal inside. We were visiting recently, again able to still see the glass blowers working as that level of the historic building had been under water. The displays of glassware, whether useful serving pieces or art decor are always beautiful. For the first time, I did not purchase anything during my visit, but I nearly did. My house has plenty of decor, several pieces from here and maybe now, that is enough. These are not trinkets, this is art glass. But I was truly tempted. The one sad thing we discovered was that there was no way possible for us to have our lunch in their wonderful restaurant where I have eaten twice before. It was full, and full for the whole day, no waitlist even available. I do not know how far in advance you need to get reservations these, but you clearly do need them. The gnocchi were disappointing.. the sauce aside from an orange peel accent was bland and the whole dish felt lifeless. My husband 70 $ steak arrived cold. A 70$ steak should be perfect. The staff was cold and not welcoming. I see from other reviewers that I am not the only person saying that. High end restaurants take pride in their service and people are willing to pay top dollar for their whole experience not just the food. From walking in the door to paying the bill, nothing disappointed. We were there to celebrate our 29th anniversary and, taking note without prompting, the general manager Nick managed to secure a table for us by the window looking out on the river. Our server Megan was efficient and cheerful, and had excellent suggestions. Everything from the Vermont cheddar soup to the mussels in an incredible sauce with a generous portion of challah for soaking up the sauce, to the lamb shepherd's pie that actually tasted like lamb, to the crème brûlée that rivaled the one my husband had in Paris, all were exceptional. Delicious food and drinks served in/on Simon Pearce glassware. The ambiance is incredible, as this restaurant sits right along the Quechee River. Few things are more peaceful to me than watching flowing water. During the busy season you do need to make a reservation a few weeks in advance if you'd like to get dinner. We got a lunch spot since that's all they had available 1 week prior. Once in, the service is great. The staff is very accommodating to allergies and don't make you feel like an inconvenience for making special requests.
