Tried Simon tacos at the recommendation of a friend. It was very clean, and we loved the walls and restaurant set up. The workers were friendly and personable. The Torta Al pastor may have been the best I've ever had! Great, fresh, tasty ingredients. I was only able to finish half. My husband didn't love his burrito, he didn't realize it only came with cilantro and onions, he would have liked it better with beans, cheese, lettuce and tomatoes instead. Overall, it was a good visit. We would go back to try more and order the burrito the way he likes it. read more

Was visiting Chicago and we had just landed and weren't trying to travel far for some eats. We happened upon this place and it reminded me of a mom and pop shop back home. The menu was expansive and reasonably priced. I opted for the burrito dinner with shrimp and that burrito was the size of my head and hefty. It was served with rice and refried beans and I managed to split it over three meals. The nachos were so dense, the chips were freshly fried and soaked up all the delicious toppings. My fiancé got the three taco dinner with al pastor, chorizo and carne asada. The chorizo was quite greasy as expected, the carne was a bit dry and chewy but the al pastor had amazing flavor. He also got rice and refried beans. We also got a hibiscus drink to share which was amazing. Their homemade salsas had so much heat behind them but it was a good pairing. Wish we had one of these closer to home. The service was amazing, there were two cooks and one cashier who worked exceptionally well. Service was ok from the order taker, but the dude that was with her looked like the manager or owner was rude. Yelling at me to take my tray of chips and salsa on the counter. I dined in and ordered the steak burrito. Burrito was dripping so much from underneath that when I was almost finished I discovered a pool of grease on my plate. A few min after it caked up into a lard looking substance. Also the steak was very salty and room temperature when I received it. I also order a steak taco with cebolla y cilantro and it seemed like they used a diffrent type of steak for the taco compared to the burrito; because it wasnt so salty and greasy like the steak used in the burrito. Also it was a lighter color compared to the darker one in the burrito. I dont recommend the place especially for first timers. I'm praying i dont get sick tonight from all that grease. Outstanding carne asada! The beans and rice were great too, very savory/flavorful dishes. The steak was nicely charred and had some charred onions in it too. I like that they chopped it into stripes to make assembly into tacos easier. It came with guacamole and a scoop of sour cream too. Had a bad experience ordering from them this weekend and I called to give the restaurant feedback. I was told a manager would contact me and they have yet to respond. I found this place when I dropped off food from my side hustle at a business close by. I walked in and noticed that the place was really clean. Murals on the walls were colorful and showed lots of love for Chicago. The guy behind the counter was friendly and greeted me. I ordered the Super Burrito dinner. It came with rice and beans and a super packed and tasty carne asada burrito. You can choose your own protein. I was offered chips and salsa while my food was being made. It was a great way to taste the red and green salsa. The salsa were on the creamy side. The red salsa is my favorite with a little smoky flavor. The rice had flavor, where many other places are not as flavorful. The bean were creamy and rich almost buttery like. Yum!! The burrito had guacamole, onions, lettuce, cilantro, sour cream, beans, and tomatoes. I might be missing something. The burrito was made perfectly, I was able to get all the items in one bite. My benchmark for a taco place is how good their Lengua is. It's a difficult meat to cook correctly - Simon's was excellent. Soft and tender - not chewy at all. Chips are fresh, sauces had just the right amount of spice. Prices are good for quantity of food as well. You get a 4 - 5 dollar taco worth of meat for sure. read more

I went there for the first time tonight I ordered 2, 3 taco platters and told them I wanted no onions. Every taco was coated in onions. I also ordered a burrito and told them I just wanted meat and cheese and it was so skinny. I will not be returning to this location because it feels like a waste of my money. read more

I must say this place was a pleasant surprise! The food was amazing, hot and delicious! I thought I would just give it a shot for a neighborhood taco place, and I hit the jackpot! Downgrading previous reviews due to the amount of oil used on the taco shells during the last few visits. I expect a little oil, but not puddles of it on my plate or having my hands coated in grease. The meat the last time I was in tasted like splinters of char that stuck to the grill. it was dripping with oil and burnt. There were no decent bite size pieces of meat. Last two times I dined here I had an upset stomach because of the excessive amount of oil. Sadly, I won't be coming back in. read more

I've been to this restaurant several times. They are actually my preferred go-to for tacos. I mostly get the shrimp tacos, but the chicken tacos are also good. The guacamole hits the spot. At some point, I will try some of the other menu items. read more

In my humble opinion, Simon Tacos are the best in the area. Cilantro, onion, meat, done deal! I've been eating here since it was La Palapita...the delicious but now defunct taco hut that was the dump of all dumps. I believe the smaller Palapita on Elston has recently closed as well. Im glad the new owners decided to keep the same vibe (complimentary oily chips, same menu and quality products) but cleaned it up. I no longer need an H1N1 booster when dining here compared to its predecessor! lol. The tacos are fire! The tortas are legit! The service is quick. The space is clean! Love that it's family owned and how everyone takes pride in the space. It's really a 5-star joint! But I dinged them a star because it's a tad pricey. The other day I picked up 4 tacos, carne asada with cheese to bring to my parents and the bill before tip was just shy of $20. Can't really blame them in today's overpriced society. But $20 for just 4 (albeit amazing) tacos is just too much to make me a regular. Moreso, I'll remain an ever-so-often indulger. Lastly, I'm not particularly fond of the tip feature on their POS machine. I preferred the tin can beside the register to give change or a buck or two. It's not table-side service, and it's family owned...no need to have 25 percent tip as an option for dining in or heaven forbid...taking out! Otherwise, 5 stars without chipping a nail! If you are a local native, you'll know ST use to be La Palipita. Not sure if the owners are still the same but I wouldn't be surprised from the taste of their tacos. Rice and beans are on point! Steak tacos come individually wrapped within the same container so your tortillas/tacos don't get soggy and bunched up/stuck together. Ingenious. My only complaint is it's a little steep on pricing. Still, worth it for what you're getting. Horchatas are perfectly seasoned and tasty. Steak tacos tasted just like the old Pita. Not overly seasoned and very tender. This was our second visit to Simon tacos. The first was many years ago, relatively soon after they opened. But recently, at least I think recently, there was a remodel to the exterior which enticed me to go back in. Wow, what a nice surprise it was this visit. fFrst and foremost the staff was unbelievably friendly and kind and helpful. I ordered a three taco plate and mixed my selections to the shrimp, chorizo and El Pastor. I am not sure what order I went in when eating my three tacos, but it seemed it went from savory all the way up to spicy and enough where I had to order a second Horchata to cool my pallet. The flavors were outstanding and the spice level was just perfect although as per before mentioned, I did need to get some cooling with a second drink, but that's because my gringo tastebuds are very immature to the flavors and spices of Mexican cuisine. I ordered the 3 Taco dinner and chose steak, pastor and shrimp. Damn! Should have ordered the 6 Taco Dinner! Steak was great! Juicy, with some caramelization on the edges. The Pastor was Fantastic. No lie. I'm not even a fan. Like I do Pastor for the Gram! seriously tho, It's Legit! The Shrimp was really good too. But I should have had it first, since I was already expecting much more from the previous 2 tacos. Beans were really good, rice was mediocre. But who cares?!? This place used to be decent, what happened?! Prices go up & the food and service gets worse?! Amazing. Carne asada and picadillo meats are incredibly bland. The stale corn tortillas for the tacos don't help. And could the guys at the counter be a little more unfriendly? I don't think it's possible unless they literally told me to F off. 2nd time getting takeout for 4. Taco dinner just ok. Tostadas carne asada & picadillo really bad. Very salty, no visible cheese, tiny bit of beans and very non generous on meat. Pretty much a large tortilla chip. Two sopes, barely any meat and not tasty. 1 quesadilla barbacoa but was just a pile of grease, not edible. Been coming here for awhile not sure why I haven't reviewed it. Usually get the shrimp tacos. Placed the order for pickup, I was told fifteen minutes. 11 minutes later I walk in, was asked to pay, and of course the machine is going to ask for tip. My food wasn't out and I'm already trippin if I don't tip that my food might not come out on time, but me being me, I'm not leaving a tip after I just drove in traffic to get my food. Dining in would obviously be a different story. I also chose a printed receipt but the cashier just took it out and ripped it up right in front of me. I $h#t you not, I waited almost 25 minutes more after the initial 11 minutes. People that came after me got their orders before me. When I get to my car and open the box the shrimp were charcoal black, almost no sauce and the tortillas hard around the edges. The asada tacos were slightly better but nowhere near what it was the last time I came here. Tortillas hard, and a dash of cilantro and onion, and bland meat. WOW! I don't even know where to start with this place, but I was so pleasantly surprised. We did not eat here, but my boyfriend and I really wanted tacos, so we decided to give this place a try because of the high reviews and I am so fricken happy we did. I have never had this good of tacos in my life. We decided to order through Uber Eats, and we got literally EVERY.SINGLE.THING we asked for in our order... even an extra taco we didn't order! Altogether, we ordered 3 steak tacos, another steak taco with different ingredients inside (on Uber Eats, you can choose your toppings), 2 beef tacos, one chicken quesadilla, and a side of rice. I asked for salsa verde on the side, as well. Well, they gave us this all correct, which was so nice because we were literally saying that we would be surprised if they got it all right, since we know how ordering things on apps are sometimes, but no, they did wonderful! Every ingredient was correct, they put multiple salsa containers on the side, and they even gave us napkins, forks, and a side of sour cream. It was also amazing because they literally labeled the tacos. They labeled which ones were ground beef and which one was the steak with different ingredients than the others. I have never been to a place that cared so much about their delivery orders, but I was ecstatic. Taking a bite into each of my tacos was heavenly. The meat was absolutely fresh and marinated to perfection, and I honestly have never had steak tacos taste like these did. The meat had such a distinct taste, and it wasn't even fatty at all. My beef was also cooked well, some parts seemed a little burnt, but the flavors of all of the ingredients made up for it and they overall tasted like heaven. The rice was also wonderful and not even a tad hard. PERFECT. I was not too much of a fan of the quesadilla because it was super greasy, but this was my boyfriend's anyway and he absolutely loved it. Though, I can vouch for the chicken inside of the quesadilla because it was delicious. Honestly, I will order here again! Prices are totally reasonable (about $3 for tacos with any meat and the taco dinners with rice and beans are $9.99 for any meat). I had gone to Simmons tacos in the past and had a pretty good meal. This last time I went I ordered the steak fajitas. They were the worst tasting fajitas I have ever had in my entire life. I am not even sure what the chef was thinking to put out That grade of meat. I'm not even sure if it was steak. It was all gristle and very poorly seasoned to the point where it tasted like a very gamy liver. I really wanted to like Simón Tacos... but Simon says to keep it real. I was uber-excited to check out this place from all the good reviews from my fellow Yelpers. This place has a private parking lot, which is absolutely unheard of in Chicago, but that's awesome! They also have a pretty cool looking outdoor seating area, if you want to eat some tacos while enjoying the outdoor Chicago summer weather. Simón Tacos is a casual dining spot. You go to the front, order your food, they give you a number, you pick a seat, and eventually your number gets called and you pick up your order. They have a fridge stocked with different flavors of Jaritos, pop, or if you want agua, they have a water dispenser near the front entrance of the place. I went ahead and ordered some tacos: Steak -- was OK, but I thought it was rather bland Chicken -- dry, and somewhat bland Lengua -- probably the star of the show. I also tried the guacamole and it was A-OK. It was flavorful, but I did wish it was chunkier. But overall, decent. All tacos came with onions and cilantro. I asked if they had them pickled hot peppers, and they were able to dig some up for me! Sadly I was looking forward to elotes, but Simón did not have any. Overall, the staff were nice, the place was nice, but the food was A-OK. BATHROOM REVIEW: There is a mens and womens single person bathroom. Inside, the bathroom was kind of small, but it got the job done. Although there is a sink outside of the bathroom, there are also a sink in the men's bathroom as well. Sit or squat? Squat. read more

We live in Jefferson Park and have been looking for a good taco spot for over a year. We ordered Simon last night after driving by and noticing their cute patio. It was delicious! I got the enchiladas and my husband tried four different tacos. Everything was very flavorful and it came piping hot. This was my first time here since it was La Palapita years ago, and I'm so glad that I went. This is super close to work, and we decided to go check it out for lunch. We were all really happy that we did. It's a very cool place inside and out, and the colors and wall art inside are vivid and it has this great vibe about it. It was a beautiful day so we enjoyed their outside dining space as well. The food was amazing too! The menu is pretty extensive so it was hard to choose, but I went with the al pastor burrito. When I tell you I was happy I went with the regular and not the super I mean as big as the regular was I have no idea how anyone can put away the super. I had a hard time with that and I can eat, but I couldn't stop eating because it was so delicious! We got two orders of chops and salsa on the house with two different salsas, both good but the roja had some real kick to it. Two others had the sopes and said they were very good and piled high, and the others had a torta and nachos also huge portions. The guy at the counter was very friendly and was quick with the ordering and our food came out quick and hot. Another employee came outside and helped us put two tables together so we had extra room.
