On this stretch of Lawrence there are a few taquerias that serve a decent rendering of Mexican street style al pastor or "Trompo" style. Trompo is the (rotating) spit with meats covered in marinade and topped with a rind of pineapple. Anything else is not the same. Flacos doesn't put theirs on the spit any longer, the meat is marinated in a vat and then slivers of pineapple are mixed in. I'm curious to whether they're using a canned fruit due to the excessive sweetness. In some bites, the juice can be tasted. I teeter between 3-4 stars. Pre-pandemic solid 4, now just a three star kinda taq. Their al pastor is close to the quality of neighboring Su Nueva Casa (El Gallo Bravo) further east on Lawrence. The major difference is that Gallo Bravo has theirs on the spit with a large rind of pineapple atop. A different preparation that yields more flavor. As far as Flacos prep, it's decent. I've had burritos, entrees and tacos which satisfy for an affordable cost. In the past, I tried their lengua (cow tongue) which was moist but sorely missing the basic in seasoning which made the taste boring. Lengua has since dropped off their menus since the pandemic. Pre-pandemic, Flacos had a solid following. Early evenings and late nights, you would find locals and cops dining inside regularly. It's a lot more relaxed these days and a number of menu options have dropped off. Though they are still here and kicking. In cold weather, dress appropriately it can be hella cold in there. read more

I use to head over to Taqueria El Asadero to get my torta de carne asada fix. Not realizing Albany Park had a gem a few blocks from me. The tortas de carne asada are on point. I went to that other joint a few days ago just to reaffirm that in fact this is true. I just wish they had better salsa and tacos al pastor. I usually come here every few weeks & order Three tacos of steak (asada) with Cilantro and onion. These come with a generous amount of meat compared to restaurants nearby, The Horchata offered there isn't too sweet nor too watery, although this would depend on personal opinion, but as someone who watches over my health, I would say so. The service is exceptional, with staff coming to give you a menu within seconds of seating & I've never having an issue with my order being given to the wrong table or someone else. The interior of the restaurant isn't extravagant but it is comfortable with tv's mounted on the corners & tables being cleared off, there isn't a lot of people at a time, at most a large party or some people eating out. The staff here speak Spanish & English. Would recommend it 9/10. read more

Since every Tuesday is now unofficially (or is it officially now??) Taco Tuesday, I had a hankering for some tacos on my way home this evening. This stretch of Lawrence Avenue in Albany Park is lined with many taquerias, so I decided to give Taqueria Los Flacos a try. The front part of the interior consists of spartan tables and bare colored walls, other than a few well-placed Cubs signs and TV's. The back part is where the pleasant staff congregate, and there are a couple of diner-style counters that work well for solo eaters. I ordered the taco dinner to go, and it was served to me in only a few minutes. You get three tacos plus rice and beans for $9. I opted to get three different tacos. By far the most flavorful taco was the al pastor version, while the steak taco was ok. The chicken taco was blah. All three tacos were filled to the rim with meat, as well as cilantro and onion. Both the green and orange cups of sauces were on the hotter side for me. I would say stick with the al pastor tacos next time. read more

I can only speak for the carne asada tacos but omg.. so freaking good! Cilantro and cebolla are definitely the way to go. Just squeeze some lime and bam! Deliciousness . I'd say out of the 3 salsas they give you the best one is the green one and the red then again I never care much for mild salsas. Also do yourself a favor and get an horchata cuz it's got the perfect amount of milkiness and sweetness. Certainly my favorite taco place on the northside of the city. I used to live a block away from los flacos and I might have eaten there three times a week. Now that I have moved closer to the city, I still like to make my way over if I am craving tacos. We usually get the pollo soup (which my son loves), guac, tacos, and flautas. Meh food, good service! It's ok if your out at 3am and crave a taco. And maybe it's because it was late but the steak tacos were very dry. I don't even use lime on my tacos ever but I did to try and juice them up after adding both of their sauces. The wings were not good but it's a taco restaurant so what should I have expected really. This establishment hasn't been opening for that long and it's less than one-block away from our apartment. My husband and I decided to give it a try and we were impressed by how clean the restaurant was. The cooks were friendly and provided good service. The portions were generous for the values. They do accept credit cards but the minimum purchase has to be $10. I ordered from the Mexican breakfast menu (two over-easy eggs with green sauce) and my husband ordered the tortas. Not to mention that the chips and salsa were fantastic. There were three choices of salsa for the chips and all of them were full of flavors and not blend. We also received complementary chicken soup for dining in which was good, too. Overall, we definitely recommend this place when we want Mexican anytime (open 24 hours)! read more

We had food ordered from here through Grubhub. The food here is just not good. I ordered the steak nacho and 2 steak tacos. My wife had a cheese quesadilla with a side of beans and rice. The beans my wife got tasted 2 days old and reheated. She also didn't care for the quesadilla. My steak nacho would have been OK if I didn't have to keep pulling out hard and fatty pieces of steak from my mouth! I HATE when the steak used isn't properly trimmed and free of fat. It's lazy. The nacho chips tasted like old cigarettes. They probably were expired. They weren't even crunchy. The veggies weren't that fresh. They gave us 4 sauces (2 green and 2 red) and only 1 one fork even though my nacho is meant to be eaten with a fork. Delivery time was pretty average. No complaints there. Portions are generous but when it's crappy food, it's hard to care about that. Jefferson Park and the surrounding area struggle with good restaurants. This place is one of the reasons why. If I could only give "0" 's, I would. Placed an order for (3) steak tacos and a drink for lunch. Unfortunately, work got extremely busy and I had to skip. It was never my intent to order and not pick up. Called to apologize, and explain the situation. More than willing to pay extra for the loss/waste, reorder and pick up after work on my way home. That did not happen. I called (3 x's). The first time, the host/wait staff didn't understand me and hung up. The second time, the same thing. Third and last I had my Spanish speaking coworker call and tell them the situation. She did so, and regret to inform me that they were angry that I had not picked up, and we're willing to "hold" the cooked food that I ordered for lunch and give that to me when I would pick up later.
