My friends and I came here for the first time not too long ago, and we had a pretty good experience. Thankfully, the weather was beautiful when we came, so we asked to sit outside on their small patio. Sadly, our table was sticky and very dirty when they initially sat us down, so we had to ask the waitress to wipe it down for us. She did without hesitation, but it was offputting that she would sit us at such a dirty table in the first place. As you can probably tell, we did have good service all night, too. When looking at the menu, there are many options to choose from: tacos, fajitas, enchiladas... you know, the normal Mexican restaurant stuff. However, they do have some unique options that many do not offer, such as birria beef grillers and fried ice cream. My friends and I all ordered drinks, and I enjoyed my regular-sized classic lime margarita with a tajin rim ($14). One of my friends ordered a medium-sized hibiscus margarita ($20) and didn't like it very much, but my other friend who ordered a Mariposa ($12) which was "passion fruit, mineral water, vodka, simple syrup, and berries", and she enjoyed hers a lot. For a little appetizer, my friends and I all ordered elote ($5 each). We all agreed that it was the best-tasting elote we have ever had. The corn was cooked perfectly, not too soft and not too hard, and there was a perfect measurement of lime, mayo, and cheese. It was amazing. We also shared chips and guac ($12). This was good and chunky but was missing flavor. It tasted fresh and you can tell it was made in-house, but all it tasted like was avocado with cilantro and onion. There was no pico on it even though the menu claimed it came on top, and it didn't taste seasoned or taste like any lime was in the ingredients. For dinner, I ordered a steak original burrito ($12). When I got my burrito, my first thought was that it was small and not filled very much. The steak was delicious and everything mixed well together, but there wasn't much in there to make it worthwhile. I must admit, the prices aren't too high, and $12 for a burrito isn't bad at all, especially because normally steak is a more expensive meat option. However, when I think about being able to get a HUGE burrito elsewhere, and I get half the amount of filling here, it's a bit disappointing. I have a picture of how I received the burrito attached to this review so you can see for yourself. One of my friends ordered the birria taco plate ($16) and she loved them; my other friend ordered a fish taco ($5) and an al pastor taco ($5), both of which she thought were pretty good. Overall, this wouldn't be my first choice of Mexican cuisine, but I would like to order something else from their menu one day, so I am sure I will return sooner or later. read more

This is gem spot. I felt like we unlocked a new level of goodness in the city. Charming, out in the open, in plain sight. All of us loved. 13 year old, 9 year old (mainly because she was allowed to have chalk and color on the chalk board walls-- so cool and fun), I loved it and she loved it (mom) Not very big but our service was so great and the flavors here are so good. Easily goes right to the top for my favorite taco spots in the city! It's a small spot and the service may take some time. So if you're in a hurry idk. Simply the best tacos in Chicago and I can honestly say I've eaten at some of the best in town, Southside, East, West, and Northside.

They keep raising the price. $8.79 for a single taco is insane. The food is good but let's be forreal! It's not $35 for four tacos good.

Chips stale. Good portion though.b it charges $10 when they are free everywhere else. Service was fine. $7.00 for a jarritos. That's unbelievable for a bottle of pop. I would expect that price for an alcohol drink. $1.00 open food charge. What is that? Oh just googled. Sour cream for my tacos. Steak taco $6. It was ok. The tortillas are weird. So $30 for two tacos drink and chips n salsa. Then total is more if you pay with a card. $1.33 more. Weird amount. The music was very loud I couldn't hear my waitress . There was only one other person in there and I think she told me I had to leave because I was there an hour. I'm not sure I could understand her. I didn't think I was there an hour but I might have been. I was taking my time. She was nice about it though. read more

If I were in the position to give Tatas Tacos a Michelin star, I would place one at Tatas Tacos. It is off the charts! Tatas Tacos stands out from the crowd with its unique blend of traditional Mexican flavors and innovative culinary techniques. I'm not sure why they only have three stars. These are some of the best Tacos I have ever had! She gives Rick Bayless at Cruise Blanca a run for his money, which is also a favorite of mine. Marci's food is addicting, not because of chemicals (Like in fast food) but because of the freshness, amazing flavors, and sauces, all made from scratch, including her signature homemade tortilla's. I am salivating just thinking about it. Marci and Ismael make a great team. Marci is a superb, underrated chef and operator with an energy and focus that is rare. Ismael is a great operator. It started with Marci's mother in Mexico, creating authentic recipes with all fresh food made-to-order, including hand-made tortillas, done perfectly, using her mother's original, authentic recipes from Mexico. Her mother is a century old and still alive and well. Marci started in Pilsen and successfully ran one of the original Chicago food trucks. Then, she opened in Lakeview, had a great run, and closed it down. Now, it has two locations near Six Corners, one being fast/casual and where you can order online and cater. It's a small and quaint restaurant with a cozy bar. The tap list is quality, and she serves a handful of special drinks that are also freshly made and pair well with her food, both alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages. The tacos are packed with various flavors, homemade sauces, and flowing juices. The empanadas are lightly fried and bursting with flavors. Anyone with a quality food palette will appreciate this Taco joint! read more

Came here on a Friday afternoon to grab a small lunch. Julieta, my server, appeared to be the only person working beside the cook in the kitchen. Super slow day and she was incredibly nice and attentive. She allowed me to chose my seat and provided a menu and water. I chose the tacos as this was my first visit and the reviews are split if the price matches the quality and taste of the tacos. I chose to order a mole taco, tata taco which is fish and the triton which is their idea of surf and turf in a taco. The triton is listed as a top favorite of the customers. In all this is about $17 for three tacos. Let's hope it's worth it... The mole - different to offer sesame seeds on the tacos but I can get with it. The chicken should've been shredded and not cubed but it was still juicy and a lot of meat was provided. The rice and beans added didn't do much more than help with filling rather than flavor. The mole itself was alright but I've had better. The Tata - top taco to me and it's only $5 where as the other two are $6-7 apiece for speciality tacos. It was juicy and blackened and the slaw was a nice crisp cool touch. The triton - Surf and turf. That's what you get. Nice good piece of steak but one shrimp was insulting. The added random potatoes could've been subbed for another shrimp or two and added a little more chimmichuri sauce. This review gets three stars because there were also items off the menu missing and it was only 12:45 pm in the afternoon. (They open at 11:00). The empanadas, fried ice cream and flan were out for the day. They had none. That's insane to me. There are three locations. Two of which are less than a mile away from one another. The business owners should know they things ought to be stocked. I'd like to return to try the missing items as I had my eye on those. read more

Awful, just plain awful and it's a shame. My wife and I went for a late dinner during the June heatwave because online it said they were open till 11. We get there just after nine and the place is completely empty - that should have been sign one to leave. They also had the AC off, so it was broken or they had it off to encourage customers to leave. It was warmer in the restaurant than outside. We asked if the kitchen was still open and they said yes and waved us in, but we quickly realized that wasn't a good thing, they were already one foot out the door. The server was nice enough but he was rarely present. Even worse was so much of what came out was bad, even stuff that had no business being bad. The beer was somehow both cold and tasted skunked, the 20 dollar margarita tasted like there was barely any alcohol. The guac was so bland we needed to ask for salt and pepper. My steak burrito looked great when it came out but I realized partway through that there was barely any meat in it. Yes we were there late but that's no excuse to make bad food, or skimp on the portions. When my wife asked for flan for dessert they kindly took her order, then came back out a few minutes later and said they were out of flan and the kitchen was closed. If we asked before sitting down if the kitchen was open and they said yes, we figured it meant we'd be able to get a full meal. We weren't exactly eating slowly. They just wanted to leave and figured they'd get a nice tip on a $70 bill at the end of the night they could sleepwalk through. Tasteless, rude, not worth it. Skip this place. read more

Pretty sure they're running a ghost kitchen called "Empanada heaven" that's on GH. First of all yall are wrong for charging almost $5 PER empanada that's child size. $27 for 4 empanadas? Second, I ordered a street corn one that tasted like it was filled with corn from a can and that's it. The description said mayo and chili but it's straight up plain corn in there. I'll for sure be telling people not to order from there bc that was just rude. read more

I couldn't love Tata's more! My husband and I just came to this location for the first time this week. We have been to the other location many times. came for the first time last week and we can't wait to go back! There is also a cute rooftop deck upstairs and a room that can be rented out for parties. We got the empanadas which were devine. I can't decide what flavor was my favorite. Tinga, picadillo, chorizo and potato, & cheese and potato-all devine with the most delicious chimichurri dipping sauce. The chips and salsa were so tasty. For dinner we we for burritos. We made them wet-i had the red sauce and my husband had green. So yummy! We also had a side of elote. The servers were so quick, friendly and attentive. Also the owner Marci is amazing! Premium prices for skimpy portions of below average Mexican food. Cleaner interior than most small family run Mexican restaurants in this area. They do offer outdoor seating that might make them a decent choice for lunch in the summer... but have tempered expectations about the food. Ordered a chorizo, carne asada and chicken taco.... At $5 each, I'd expect something unique. Instead I found they skimped on the meat but added cubed potatoes. Probably because it's an inexpensive filler. An order of beans & rice is another $5...and again, tiny serving and nothing special. Rice & beans come mixed together in a container I would use for extra salsa. The beans aren't refried. With 3 restaurants... I would expect a bit more from Tatas. The other taco options in the area have them beat by a mile. After hearing nice reviews... I was very disappointed. read more

When I walked in, the servers were very friendly. Live music was about to begin too and it was sounding great! The food, however, was lacking in flavor. The guacamole needed salt, and they should serve a bit more chips with it. I ordered a Burrito Sucia and didn't like it one bit. Not the sort of mole I'm accustomed to, it was really bland in flavor and a hint spicy. The burrito is small but the tortilla is really big and it was folded so much that I had mouthfuls of tortilla more than filling. I asked the server for two tacos de asada to eat after only taking two bites.
