The bartender was really nice when he greeted us, and was sure to double check where we parked because apparently they're pretty notorious for ticketing and towing around there. Cute little place in Rice Village. They have a decent happy hour and indoor and outdoor seating. Great place for girlfriends to get together or a cute date spot. Service is great. With a jukebox, group tables, and late night selection, it was perfect for a game night. The fries were pretty amazing and everyone enjoyed their selection of drinks. The staff was friendly but I'm a little disappointed they didn't have lambic. The music selection is dependent on the guests but we managed to get in a few of our songs. Great spot for some wine and pizza also light appetizers. Very friendly wait staff and the patio was so pretty. Don't wear heels, you'll have to walk a block or so to park, valet comes later in the evening. Pizza is a little pricey for the size but very tasty with a nice crispy crust. read more

This place used to be amazing when Kristin was running it. Now service is spotty, prices are way jacked up, and not surprisingly, crowds have thinned out. We had a $17 bottle of happy hour Cabernet which wasn't bad. After 7 pm, I ordered a $52 bottle of 2010 Chateau MyLord Bordeaux. The owner (Simone herself) came out and made a big deal wanting to know who ordered this wine from her "own collection" which she recently put on the menu, all 4 bottles, and I was the first to order it, etc. That got me curious about this particular bottle. Should have looked that one up before ordering. Retailed for $15.99, now sold in secondary wine shops for $12.99. I totally understand markup in restaurants/bars, usually something like 2.5 x wholesale pricing. Even based on retail pricing, the bottle should max out at $40. Sorry I didn't look this one up before I ordered it. It was a decent bottle, just don't like being taken. I probably would not have given that much thought if it weren't for the fact that pricing on EVERYTHING here has nearly doubled since the last time I was there. Steak night used to be a great value, now a rip off. After nobody came outside to get our order when we first arrived and grabbed an outside table on the front patio, I went inside to ask whose section is out front. "Nobody has that section. Just flag someone down, or you can come on in to order at the bar." Bartender dude was clueless about their food, wine, drinks, pretty much everything. I love Simone on Sunset. I think of it as a best kept secret in this part of town. The atmosphere is amazing, the jukebox is great and the service is great, too. I have hosted several happy hours there and the staff knows me and my friends. The food is also great, including the Man Pizza in the colder months. They have a happy hour menu that is easy on the pocket book. The only draw back is the parking situation. If you park in an empty parking lot of a business that is CLOSED you get towed. They seem to be working more on the parking every time I go. read more

Parking is definitely tricky, but it's worth the hassle - we went for steak night (Thursday) and I got the bacon-wrapped filet. For $20 I got a 6oz bacon-wrapped filet, a mixed greens salad (topped with beets, which was fun!) and mashed potatoes. The filet definitely seemed larger than 6oz to me and was cooked perfectly, the salad was good, and the potatoes looked unappetizing but tasted creamy and delicious. We also had truffle parmesan popcorn which was fantastic also! HH wine was $15/bottle and the cab was fine - not amazing, but hey, it's $15! We sat on the patio and the servers were great! I was sure the tiny place would be packed for such a great steak night, but we had no problem getting a table for our small group. This place is great. Needed a relaxer after the week I just had and a boost for the coming one. I went on a Sunday evening with two girlfriends and the place was absolutely chill. The atmosphere is great, whether for a romantic date or just a light dinner and drinks with friends. Happy Hour was before 8:00, so we shared a bottle of delicious Cab for $15. It was great. This place is such a hidden gem! It's nestled in the Rice Village area and appears to be an old home converted into a wine bar/lounge. For parking you will need to plan to valet or locate street parking. There's a large outdoor patio seating area at the front entrance, and when you walk in there is a small main dining area and another more intimate lounge area/room off to the side. I came on a Thursday night for happy hour; $17 bottles of house wine....you can't beat that! My friend and I shared a bottle and also decided to order steak since it was steak night. We each ordered the 12 oz. ribeye which was seasoned and cooked well. The mixed grilled vegetables and potatoes were amazing. The dessert we ordered and shared (chocolate cake) left a lot to be desired--it tasted store bought and dry. Aside from that we had a great time! pros: * cocktails are pretty good. the cradle of life was strong. the bartender said a couple of those and we'd be on our butts. * inside, very cozy feel to the place. it was dark and only lit by some ambient lighting. the couches and overall decor makes it perfect for a date spot. *good mix of people there. from business people, to hipsters, to locals, to ladies in their workout gear (strangely saw a lot of that) -- and tangent - who does that?? cons: * good luck trying to find the place if you've never been and when you do find it, * good luck finding parking * front patio area was teeny tiny - so if it's a beautiful day (like it has been for the past month) the likelihood of you scoring a table outside is slim to none, unless of course you get there when the doors open. Since we didn't score an outside table, and I personally spent more time scoping the patio to jump at the chance to snag a table when someone left, (Think crow perched on a chair, at a table next to yours when you're eating outside...just waiting for you to get up to steal a french fry - yes, like that) we will be back, perhaps when the doors open. read more

If you feel like hanging out with a glass of wine and nice bar nibbles, amongst ever changing art pieces, then this is your place. I love the patio with it's atmospheric lighting and heaters on a cold night. Employees have it together and are super friendly. The owners are often on the premises making sure everyone is having a good time. So glad it re-opened after a hiatus. Parking is just like anywhere in the Village; you may need to walk a few steps to get there but they have arranged for parking at neighboring businesses after hours. My husband and I made a new year's resolution while we were on vacation on the east coast that the first Thursday we were back, we were going to Simone's for steak night. (We had only been for drinks before.) The steak dishes, $18 each, were fabulous! Our meat was perfectly cooked as were the vegetables. We will be back for steak night! We had a couple of old fashioners and then tried some wine. the wines by the glass can be a little pricey if you want a higher quality wine, but the prices by the bottle are pretty reasonable. A comfortable and cozy neighborhood spot! Parking can be a challenge but it is worth it. Thursday steak night is delicious....we had filets with grilled veggies and mashed potatoes. The prosciutto wrapped asparagus is a great for an appetizer. The beverage menu is interesting and creative . The "Simone Old Fashioned" is a modern version of a classic drink. Went for the first (and last) time Saturday night. Had the makings of a great little find. I liked the look and feel of the place. When the drinks turned out to be disappointing, I was willing to stick it out and keep trying other drinks until I could find something that worked for me. When we put some music on the jukebox and got told that "that kind of music" is not allowed, I gave up on the place. The song my wife had picked was Biggie Smalls and being told that those kinds of songs "didn't attract the kind of clientele" the owner wanted in his place made me disgusted. Had I been there with any of our friends that look like the "wrong clientele", I would have felt ashamed for bringing them to this place. The owners need to wake up and take a look around. This is not 1962 anymore. There are many better places in Houston. This place is middle-of-the-road and ass-backwards. Don't go here. read more
