I felt like I was dropped off in the middle of Brooklyn or perhaps even Tokyo at this very trendy vinyl listening bar with great cocktails. It also felt like a third space of sorts, because I was hanging out with a well connected friend, and everyone who came in was a who's who of the Houston restaurant/nightlife scene, and gathered for what turned out to be an unplanned hang out. They were hosting a vinyl swap night, so folks were coming in to peruse the many boxes of vinyls, and a DJ spun classic r&b tunes. I hear that on some nights they make space for a dance floor so people can show off their best two step in the space. The drinks were great and well priced but the wine selection is what got me. I was told they were inspired by Japan's many vinyl listening bars-- having been to many across Japan as well as many NYC imitators, this place actually impressively comes close. Regarding the food, the Frisée Salad was pretty good, well dressed and flavorful. The chicken sandwich was okay. The batter was crispy and flaky but it had no flavor. What made it a lot better was the coleslaw that brought a great deal of tang and moisture. The steak was not quite for me. It came on a bed of sauce that was flavorful with fresh veggies but it did not go well with the steak. Perhaps chicken would've suited better. The steak itself was dry and quite chewy. For dessert we had the carrot cake tres leches which was decent. The carrot cake flavor was there but the moisture from the cake was not fully spread in the cake. Overall nothing here was bad but with the plethora of restaurants in the Houston area I can't justify recommending or returning. read more

With a casual neighborhood vibe that extends from the afternoon until the evening, the cocktails, coffee, and drinks are all equally great. Their chicken sandwich is a must try and has gotten well deserved accolades. Perfectly breaded, toasted bun, and very juicy. We paired it with the churro French toast, an almost cloyingly sweet (but perfectly cooked) dish that definitely needed a savory balance. Their bacon is delicious, super thick with a slightly herby flavor. The evening hours can get loud between the crowds and the DJ, but the vibe is still really cool and chill. The only unfortunate part of my experience was that the two of us at my table got the same dish - biscuits and gravy. The biscuit was dense but softened under the rich and savory gravy, and I got my eggs over easy to get the yolk mixed in. I also added some of their house-made habanero curry hot sauce, which is absolutely delicious. I'll definitely have to try a few other dishes next time! Visited 93' Til for a friend's birthday with a group of 12+ people. The burger was good, and everyone ordered food and drinks, but the service was disappointing. I asked for hot sauce and was charged for it. The server also brought a mayo-based sauce I never requested and charged me for that too. There was no mention that sauces cost extra. To top it off, they brought the birthday guest a tiny slice of cake and charged him $10 for it. After bringing in a large group that spent hundreds of dollars, it seemed like a poor way to treat customers. I previously came to 93' Til for an exclusive Yelp event and was so in love with the vibe and the drinks that I decided to return on a solo dinner date. I was a little confused about the seating because there was outdoor seating and reserved indoor tables. One of the staff came and clarified for me so I chose to sit outside since it wasn't too hot. A server offered me water and then I waited a while for my actual server to come by. I was a little disappointed that they didn't have the Hamachi Collar to try but I'll keep my eyes peeled for future daily specials. My drink order was taken and then later my food order was taken. I ordered a Lychee 75, Fingerling Potatoes and Lamb Shoulder. It was so delicious and the ambiance with the vinyls playing through the speaker made it all the more better. I really enjoyed myself and the food and drinks were really immaculate. The only downside was the amount of time I waited. I waited about 30 min in total from when I got my water, placed my drink order (and then was re-prompted for a drink order to which I reminded my server that I already ordered) and then received my first drink. I also went almost half of the dinner before I got a water refill. I don't know if I was sitting in a inconspicuous spot (behind the front door, outside) but I felt slightly forgotten about. The food came out in a decent amount of time but it was still about 40-45 min from ordering. Truthfully, the food was so delicious that I kind of didn't care about the wait time after the fact. I genuinely have mixed feelings about this establishment and about my experience. I really wanted to give it 5 stars but there are a few reasons why I can't. I'll start with the positives: As soon as we walked in, the vibes were immaculate, they were playing one of my favorite songs. For some reason I thought the records would have just been a prop but they were playing great music all night and switching out the records. I was able to hear some of my favorite artists/songs. I think this is a great environment for those who want to experience night life without going anywhere that is too rowdy. It was a very chill and laid back environment. Secondly, the drink menu is pretty nice. My friend and I both had the lychee 75. It was good but honestly, it tasted almost identical to a lemon drop to me. On to the not so positives: the food menu is very strange and specific. There were only about 2 items on the menu that I would have been okay with trying if I was in the mood for a chicken sandwich or fish. Other than that, not even an appetizer looked appealing to me. We were both hungry but the menu was not appealing enough for us to order food so my friend decided to get the tres leches carrot cake.. two desserts that I despise, combined in one. She offered me some so I took a few bites but she ate most of it. After finishing our drinks and talking for awhile, we got our checks and for some odd reason the waiter decided to split the dessert on both of our checks. I thought it was very strange that he didn't even ask if we wanted to split it, considering that my friend stated that SHE would be ordering the dessert for herself. The setup feels intentional and relaxed, with a definite Austin vibe that makes it feel both artsy and inviting. I found out they used to be downtown and moved to this location about six months ago. The coffee was carefully crafted and strong--just how I like it. You can tell they care about what they're serving. The barista was super friendly and easy to talk to, which made the experience even better. The space itself was quiet in the morning, with plenty of tables that make it a great spot to study or get some work done. Since 93' Til is also a bar and restaurant, the place has a dynamic energy that I'd love to check out during lunch or dinner. I've heard great things about the food, so I'm definitely planning a return trip. Unfortunately, I found the brunch menu to be quite limited. I ordered a latte and the hangover burrito. The latte was fantastic, but the burrito was underwhelming. For $14, it came with no sides and was only about half the size of what you'd get at Chipotle. Service was lackluster--similar to what you'd find at a local coffee shop. The staff took our order and brought our food and check, but that was about it. To top it off, they automatically added a 20% tip for our group, which felt excessive given the service quality. I've been eyeing this spot for a while and I'm glad I got to finally try it! First off, this place is a vibe- great music, decorations, and people just randomly dancing and having fun. It's a fantastic spot for some drinks and/or a fun date night! My boyfriend and I were a little bit confused at first when we walked in because there wasn't a server telling us where to be seated but here, you just sit down and someone will take care of you while you look at the menu through the QR code on the table. For starters we got the chicken liver mousse. At first I was a little intimidated by the dish but honestly, it ended up becoming my favorite. The red wine flavor really compliments the mousse and it's perfect as a spread for the bread. The only thing I wished was different is the bread- it's pretty dry/crumbly and gets everywhere. For the main dish, my boyfriend and I ordered the chicken sandwich and hanger steak. The chicken sandwich was fantastic! The chicken was crispy and juicy and the cabbage/kale slaw added that extra crunch. As for the steak, unfortunately this was a miss. I wasn't exactly a fan of the flavor overall and it was the most expensive thing we ordered so it was a little disappointing. Yeah, this is how we chill from 93' Til!! If I had to tally my most frequented bars/restaurants in the neighborhood, 93'Til is easily in my top 3. I'm not going to lie in that I was SO bummed when Night Heron closed, but am glad that 93'Til opened in its place - even though it's a different concept, I love they retained a lot of the aspects of the previous tenant. The vibes here are always great - although just a heads up, the vibe definitely changes from the beginning towards the end of the week. Once you get to Thursday - Saturday, it's definitely much more of a bumping atmosphere with larger crowds and louder music, while earlier in the week it's much more quiet and chill. This place is reminiscent of the listening record bars that were popularized in Japan, migrating to NYC, and now exploding all over the country. Walls are lined with their vinyl collection, and many a night you'll hear a live DJ spinning beats. Definitely a hip hop bent (not surprising given its homage to the Souls of Mischief classic as its business name). Regardless you're guaranteed some great music whenever you're here. They have great happy hour specials, although I admit I wish they extended the hours longer to 7pm. They have specials throughout the week, and my favorites are Wednesdays when they have half off bottles of wine, and a great burger night. I still dream about their burger patty - so juicy and flavorful. Food is absolutely underrated here. The menu has so many hits - my favorite (as in I tend to order a lot) are the grilled cucumbers (the touch of flame/fire is so good) and the chicken sandwich (arguably one of the best chicken sandwiches in the city, juicy dark meat with perfect chicken:bun ratio), and the brussels sprouts are delish. Wine list is thoughtfully curated, and the staff (who are so affable and attentive) can definitely help you select the right bottle(s) for the vibe you're looking for that day or the food you're eating. They have a great outdoor space when the weather is nice with umbrellas, as well as a comfy interior with couches and tables - depending on the vibe you need or the size of your group. Anyhow, I feel like this place doesn't need any more positive reviews, as it always seems packed in the latter half the week. They have a parking lot, but relatively small compared to the capacity of the restaurant - street parking is plentiful though. If you live in Montrose or in the surrounding area, I am sure we have crossed paths here. However if you are visiting the neighborhood, '93 Til is definitely a great place to add to your bookmark list for guaranteed great drinks, great bites, and always a chill vibe. read more

Vibes. I knew it was going to be a cool place when I walked up and saw the marquee sign say "Can I kick it? Yes, you can." When I walked inside it continued with the loads of vinyl records and music playing. It was at a good volume which allowed our group to speak at a reasonable volume as we discussed some intimate subjects. We grabbed a table in the corner which gave us a great view of the entire restaurant. I was grateful for the table because at my height and my companions, some of the other options felt a little too low. We ordered the wings and the popcorn. Unfortunately I originally ordered the popcorn with no salt but they kitchen forgot so I didn't get to taste it-I opted to just try the wings. The chef apparently has a batch of hot sauce that he makes and our server, Aaron, who was great, said it would be too hot but I was able to dip my wings and enjoy their flavor and the flavor of the hot sauce without issue. My first night barhopping in Houston and we started at 93' Til. It's definitely got some chill, lounge vibes and great cocktails but also seems like that have a great food menu to check out as well. My party got here fairly early as we wanted to check out various things happening around town and check out the Montrose area as well. It was pretty chill around 8pm on a Saturday and looked like a mix of dinner crowd and just chilling at the bar. The server was super nice and welcomed us, being new to Houston and to 93' Til, he even warned us to avoid a certain bar. I got the ube milk tea drink which was great, alcoholic milk tea? Yes please! This is definitely a spot I enjoyed and plan to return to, especially to try some of the food! It's also close to some other spots in Montrose so it was a nice starting point to explore. read more

We ordered right away as we were just stopping in for a quick bite for dinner. I found the place as it was just a two minute walk where we were staying not far from Rice University. We ordered the mussels, grilled cucumbers, and crispy chicken sandwich. The chicken sandwich was absolute awesome-super crispy and hot through and through, with a tangy and crunchy kale/cabbage slaw, nice brioche type bun. I thought Grilled Cucumbers? I gotta try this. Never had anything like it before, but now it's a dish I've got to recreate. Probably large english cucumbers though they did have a hint of a pickle type cucumber, served hot off the grill over a spread of whipped feta, then whisps of dill and pine nuts sprinkled abundantly on top. What a great way to eat your veggies. Then the mussels-very generous portion of at least 2 dozen mussels, bits of sausage throughout the broth, and green apple dice. Another fantastic dish. Came here for a quick cocktail with friends. I arrived after them on a Friday night and the place was pretty busy but didn't feel too crowded because of how spacious the place feels. Parking isn't that great. The lot is tiny and hard for cars to maneuver in. I opted to find some parking along the street in front. Customer service was excellent. Everyone just had this cool, laid back vibe. Music was good but slightly too loud to have a conversation without raising our voices. My friend had some light bites and really enjoyed it.
