This is an issue with this location and also SimonMed in general: why is there no direct phone number to this physical location. I called what appeared to be the local location but it was actually some kind of main headquarters that was unable to answer my question of how to get my MRI to a different provider. Oddly the main line was l not able to even connect me with the Encinitas office via phone but advised me to drive to the physical location to ask for my records to be released to a different doctor. So I drive there, and proceed to wait for 20+ min while the front desk person was "on a break" (even tho their lunch break was just 90 min prior according to the sign at their front desk). The website makes it sound so easy to share your results but I wasn't able to click any buttons to share the results, calling did nothing. So here I am waiting in line for 20 min now while the line behind me grows....this has been an insane headache and ridiculously inefficient. read more

Today we had a very bad experience with SimonMed Imaging. We had two appointments scheduled at 9:00 AM, but we were never given the address. When they called to schedule the appointments, they said all the information would be sent by text message. However, the text only included the date and time -- no address. When we searched online, we found two SimonMed locations in Encinitas: one on N El Camino Real and another on Saxony Rd, which was very confusing. We tried calling the number that originally contacted us, but it was only an automated system directing us to the website. We decided to go to the N El Camino Real location first, but there was a sign on the door saying "No X-Ray Today." Because of that, we thought the location was closed, so we drove another 3 miles to the Saxony Rd location. By then, we were about 8 minutes late. The lady at the Saxony Rd office was very kind and helpful. After hearing our situation, she called the first location and told us they could still see us if we came back right away. However, when we returned to the first location, the man at check-in showed no understanding or apology. He told us they would only see one person and the second person would need to reschedule for another day. We are very busy, and this situation was not our fault. We wasted a lot of time and effort driving back and forth between two locations because of unclear communication from SimonMed. Instead of apologizing for the inconvenience, they acted like it was our problem. We decided to cancel both appointments. When we said we wanted to cancel, he even asked, "Are you sure?" First, I had an appointment with Jesus and the rest of the staff on Friday and this lovely man said you know we're running way behind so maybe you should reschedule. So I did and I went today and met the equally lovely Laura at the front desk who took such good care of me and I got in maybe 10 minutes late but still pretty good, and the guys in the back Jason and maybe Raamon took such good care of me with two shoulder MRIs it's completely different than other people have had and I was really glad to have the experience that I had. All the poor reviews are true. At the very last minute my appointment at the Encinitas/Carlsbad branch for an MRI was cancelled. Three different staffers gave me three different excuses as to why it was cancelled: no staff available, no contrast dye at site, no insurance authorization (which was total BS as authorization was not required as per the insurance co.) So which was true? Who knows?! Then when I was rescheduled to the La Jolla branch the receptionist there overcharged me for the service by about $300!! When I complained she gave me the billing office number and the accountant there said it would take 7-10 before they could even address my request for a refund. I can't believe my cardiologist even recommended this company. Never again! read more

I just want to share I had a remarkably positive experience here today. I had some potentially scary news. My doctor wanted me to get an a MRI ASAP, and I thought it was scheduled today. I completely misread my calendar and it was scheduled for the soonest available two weeks from now. Jesus at the Front Desk went out out of his way multiple times to move patients around and found a way to get me in today for my MRI. I've never had that level of customer service and depth of caring at a health facility before. And the team in the back, Jared and Alondra, were wonderful. They walked me through everything and made me feel safe and reassured even though I had to spend 45 minutes deep in that MRI tube. Highly recommended. read more

I didn't even step foot in this place and I can tell it's ripe with "training issues" as Reeham has stated. I received a referral to SimonMed for dual shoulder MRI's with contrast. I actually had a referral somewhere else, but it was out a month and a half. My insurance called other providers before redirecting the referral, to make sure that they; 1. Provide the services needed and 2. Had availability sooner than what I had scheduled. Great. They had availability "as soon as today or tomorrow if (they) had the orders". Wait the 2 days for it to be redirected. I call (June 30th) and speak to someone who books me an appointment by LOOKING UP MY AUTHORIZATION. I am scheduled for July 11th at 10:15am. I then receive a text message on July 2nd saying that they hadn't received the order and would need to reschedule unless I got it to them. So, I call my insurance the fax it over and it is confirmed as received. I get another text message confirming my appointment and providing me with a link to fill out forms. Fast forward to July 9th. I receive another text message that says they cancelled my appointment because they don't have the order. I spend an hour and 45 minutes with my insurance on the phone as well as SimonMed on the line with my insurance. Appointment is moved to July 16th. They have the order at least... So I called SimonMed Imaging and they tell me that there's an issue with the order and that I need an MRI with contrast and without. Because they won't be able to compare. Ok... kinda makes sense. THEN...I get a text message this morning saying that they don't have my order for my appointment and that they will need to reschedule. So, I do what? I call again. I file a grievance with SimonMed Imaging. 45 minutes later. I learn that we are at an impasse. BUT I get a text with a link for forms for the appointment. Just got of the phone with Reeham (spelling?), who called me, and said that they don't do the service I need and that I will have to have my referral sent elsewhere. I ask how this happened. I was told it was a training issue. I seriously questioned that considering that between my insurance and myself, I spoke to 5 different people. This is a foundational issue. How would I even be able to trust any of their radiologists to even read the images? Sounds like a company that expanded too quickly, has a high rate of turnover and an abysmal management. Do yourself and spare yourself the headache and anger, go somewhere else. Clownish behavior. This is a laughable attempt at being a medical provider. read more

Today March 24,2026 I drove down from Palm Desert ( over a 2.5 hour drive one way) since this imaging place is the only one and closest for what my doctor wanted to see with my heart. I came in for a Coronary CTA cleerly. Shannon was my technician and she could not have been more helpful in explaining everything to me to the tee. She showed her expertise and knowledge in her field which made the procedure go smooth as glass. A++ for her today. Jesus was the gentleman that checked me in and was helpful and engaging with answers to my questions. They had pre approval for my MRI. Still billed me an 'estimate due' at time of service of $297. They said they would bill my insurance. They did incorrectly. I had to call many times before I saw it pending in my Anthem account. Finally processed and I was owed a refund of $197. They do not automatically send you your refund! Be careful with this SimonMed: I went in for an MRI I was told was $280. I intentionally didn't want to claim insurance, or get a Dr reading, to keep the costs low. Without my consent SimonMed claimed my insurance, billing an extra $590 for the facility and $1190 for an MRI reading. I am currently disputing the claim with SimonMed and with my health insurance and if that doesn't work I plan to file a small claims lawsuit. As far as I can tell this was a scam! read more

I had an appointment in a reasonable amount of time, everyone was polite, the receptionist was delightful, I was handed a disk of my images when I left, and there were no billing issues. I had an appointment scheduled for X-rays through a VA referral, but the experience was absolutely frustrating. After waiting 45 minutes in the lobby, I was told by the receptionist--who was very polite, at least--that there was no guarantee I would be seen within the two hours I had set aside for this appointment. Beware of SimonMed Imaging. They are an unreliable business if you have scheduled a surgery already. They called me to cancel my appointment twice and gave four (!) different reasons for it. I finally got my MRI with contrast done on Friday and my surgery will be on Wednesday. It's tight and keep in mind that you may experience side effects from contrast. About their team in Encinitas. I wasn't able to update my initial review, wish I could. As it ended up, emailing SimonMed was fairly quick in getting a refund processed related to my insurance coverage (a few days rather than 25-45 business days for a refund on the phone!). And I received a check without waiting too long. I don't know why their phone support said I'd have to wait so long, so I'd definitely recommend using their email support (RCM@simonmed.com) if a refund is needed. Maybe it's better support overall? So here's a crazy thing. The cash price SimonMed offers is well below my insurance co-pay. So I suggest anyone using SimonMed ask about a cash price and considers not using insurance, depending on your deductible. I found this out after my MRI and I was offered a cash price (I would have saved $100 if I hadn't used insurance), and now I see the difference in price is even more dramatic for a CT scan ($99 w/o insurance vs. $350 co-pay if I use my insurance). It's definitely worth doing your research before you decide which way you want to go. Anyway, because they can actually save you a lot of money compared to going through insurance, I decided to really bump up my rating. So while I felt SimonMed was a huge scam at first, I've changed my mind. I never thought I'd be going back after my first experience, but my insurance company didn't list any other facilities as being covered in my area. Which is funny, since I'm not going to use my insurance this time because it's so much cheaper to pay SimonMed's cash price. 2/13/24 EDIT: I just had a CT scan was at the SimonMed Carlsbad location, which is not far from the Encinitas location, and it went very smoothly. I was able to get my CT scan appointment in Carlsbad in just one day rather than waiting 3 weeks to get it at the Encinitas location. I paid $99 instead of going through my insurance and paying a $350 deductible. Oh, and in case you don't see my initial review, I think this is important to know. From everything I can tell, SimonMed only has a receptionist and maybe a couple of techs at each location. No managers, billing departments, etc. All phone calls for any SimonMed location go to a central location. My take is appointments are handled by a U.S. call center and everything else is handled by an offshore call center. And it seems if you have any issues the receptionists can't handle, they have to call or message a central location too, to be told what to do. This is based both on my own experience and also reading reviews for 4 different SimonMed locations in California. read more

I'm so angry right now, SimonMed did not even read the MRI for my husband that was done 10 days ago. His appointment with the doctor was today for the follow up, which had to be rescheduled once already because they had no one to read the MRI at SimonMed. I've been on the phone with them for well over two hours, I called yet again and got the runaround because the dr still doesn't have report so will have to reschedule the doctor for a second time for follow up. I have since lodged a complaint with their corporate compliance office who have promised me they will expedite it, they have given me a reference number for the complaint, not sure if it'll do any good! Second, I've tried to schedule a CT CCTA Cleerly scan at the Encinitas location. I know it's offered there. I have tried scheduling through the call center. Impossible. Be aware of billing scams. I had a heart CT scan at this facility on 11/16/20. I was told I would have to pay a cash price of $71 for the service, which I paid in full. I received good service and have no complaints about their facility/equipment/CT tech. However, shortly after my visit bills began showing up in the mail. On 11/23, after about an hour on hold with the billing department, I was told that the additional sum would be waived. But the bills kept coming. On 2/15/21, they threatened to transfer the case to a collection agency. I paid the additional amount just to avoid the hassle of dealing with them. They did not reply to emails that I sent to their billing and general email boxes. I wanted to share my story so others are aware that the price that you are given is not the final price you are going to be charged. read more

I dont usually write reviews but felt compelled to do this one because the issues are systemic not specific to my instance. I hope someone at SimonMed reads this and convinces the owners to fix it. Knowing how upset they get when you're 5 mins late, I arrived a few minutes before my 9:30am appointment. No point to that, as I was left hanging 45 mins in the waiting room. How can you be this backed up this early in the am?! Anyway, I had to leave for a meeting, so told them I have to leave. I had to pay ahead of any service, meaning, as soon as I walked in the door. (The grossness of this aside, I also pass along this note that in my instance at least, personal pay was somehow cheaper than my CO-PAY. I know its a well-trodden private equity move to gouge insurance companies and I dont know if this is happening here or not but it sure sounded odd to me). When I asked for a refund or to cancel the charge as I was trying to leave, the front desk had no idea how to do this and was lets say, "not that into" figuring out how to return my money. After a couple minutes of trying, I told them I'll just dispute the charge on my cc, as that seemed easier for everyone. While I was waiting for that to get sorted out, the technician came out, called my name and then proceeded to talk about my specific scans and medical issues, in a public waiting room, which is a blatant HIPAA violation. Now, I accept this may be an isolated incident but I doubt it. Others in the waiting room were also left hanging around at least 40 mins. There were a number of wheezing, sneezing people with no masks in the waiting room. The HIPAA violation is just bad protocol training. Scheduling was difficult. This definitely feels like a place that prioritizes cash flow over patients, and has changed priorities since it was bought by a private equity firm. Awful! I filled out all of their forms online and arrived for my MRI scan on time. I waited at an unmanned front desk for the better part of 30 minutes. When the attendant finally arrived, I didn't get an apology, nothing. From that point onwards, I dealt with one inept person after another. These guys are poorly managed and need help. In contrast, I've always had great experiences with Imaging Healthcare Specialists and that's where I'll be getting my MRIs, x-rays, etc., done going forward. Even in healthcare standards, this place is a logistical nightmare. First, they screwed up on the doctor's order saying that it was an X ray when it's supposed to be an MRI. After several calls from the doctor, they finally fixed it. And then they screwed up on the appointment and directed me to the wrong time and require a reschedule after admitting that they screwed up. The "site manager" is not even on site to address issues. To top it off I was confirming my appointment with one of their call center Associates and then he said his screen blacked out. He put me on hold for five minutes then when he finally came back, he said he couldn't do anything and that he would transfer me. He transferred me to their IT department. I injured myself pretty bad on Sunday and I got into Simon Med immediately on Monday. I was greeted and checked in. I literally waited less than 10 minutes and the technician Letty was so helpful and went above and beyond. My doctor received my results in less than an half hour and told me my results. The front desk receptionist was caring and I received top notch service. This will be my only referral for my patients when getting radiology. BTW I didn't name drop or tell anyone what I did as a profession and was treated with the best care and treatment. read more

Beware. This facility does provide proper ear protection. For whatever benefit you receive from imaging you will lose in hearing. Very unfair, unprofessional and definitely damaging.
