One of…read morethe things that's pretty tricky being on the go is finding a good gym to get a quality workout in. I can say that I had a good lifting experience here at New Image, and I'm a fan. Now, it's not the latest, state of the art type of place. In fact, the equipment may have a bit of wear and tear, if not the walls themselves, etc. as well. But that's why I like this place. It's not pristine, it's gritty. It's more what comes to mind when you tell a lifter that a gym is "hardcore." Good solid equipment, that while it may not be the newest and shiniest, it does the job well. The upstairs has some cardio equipment, Hammer Strength and other machines, some free weight dumbbells with some sizeable weight, and a dedicated cage area. Downstairs, it is more dedicated to powerlifting type lifting and more free weight area including more dumbbells also. The steady crash of someone pounding out deadlifts can be heard from down there usually (at least my couple of visits). Iron plates...man I love a gym that uses iron plates instead of the rubber type replacements you see most places now. It's not super cooled AC filled, in fact you'll work up a good sweat there while one or two industrial floor fans help circulate the air. Good solid workout environment. The people in New Image were great, both staff and fellow lifters. The staff I encountered were friendly, helpful, and positive. A good number of the other lifters said a friendly hello or even asked where I was from (I guess my accent gives it away, of course). It felt like a good camaraderie existed there, another plus in my book. Bottom line: If you are looking for hardcore gym environment and a good all-around great place to get your workout in, New Image can provide it. While it's not a shiny day spa-like gym, it's got what it takes in both equipment and atmosphere as well as interaction to make your lifting experience there a good one. I believe the times I had come the classes were pretty full with 25 or so people. I took a Yin Yoga class on Thursday evening, an alignment class on Friday morning, and an acroyoga workshop that same afternoon. The instructors were extremely knowledgeable and safe. The kids have to spend a lot of time waiting because of the nature of the activities. All of the kids do the same activity at the same time so they're always waiting for kids in front of them to finish on the rope swing, the trampoline, the obstacle course, etc. The most recent party we attended made me think I won't go back. Toward the end of the party, they made all of the kids sit on a white line and face a giant rope-type swing. They buckled the birthday boy in and told him to run, when he did then they hoisted him in the air and he swung back and forth. It looked like a blast. Everyone was cheering and clapping. When they lower him down, the other kids start to jump up thinking they are going to get to go next. Then they tell the other kids, "It's just for the birthday boy." Who does that to a group of five year olds? Either do it before or after the party or while the rest of the kids are doing other activities, but certainly don't make the other kids sit and watch. My daughter pretended not to be upset so I didn't bring it up but in the car on the way home she mentioned it. "Mommy, I was kind of sad when I didn't get to do the flying thing." I tried to turn the conversation to the fun she DID have but I could tell she was still a little disappointed. They should think twice about this policy in the future. Other than that, the place is pretty clean, the party area is kind of small, and some of the kids working there act like they have somewhere better to be.

I showed up to my appointment a half an hour early and filled out the initial paperwork within that…read moretime. After the paperwork was completed and turned in I had to wait 16 minutes after my appointed time. When I met Lisa she was very abrupt with me and acted very bizarre and not very welcoming. I had initially told body works / Lisa that I was in a wheelchair. When she met me and I had stated I was in a wheelchair, she asked me how did I transfer out of the chair normally I told her I use a sit to stand in my home and I had brought my aid with me to help if I needed assistance out of this chair during my appointment. She stated in a very abrupt manner,.. what is a sit to stand., as she stood in front of me intimidatingly. Although her manner was abrupt I followed her into her gym and she proceeded to ask me questions in a very clipped manner, I began to feel uncomfortable. She continued to ask me questions about my condition and I patiently responded, at one point she needed to go get her stand and stool that I assume she normally uses. While she was gone I made myself comfortable by one of her mats in the gym. When she came back she seemed unnerved that I had apparently sat in the spot that she normally inhabits. I quickly stated that I could move but she emphatically stated back to me no that's not necessary as she continued to look unnerved. I simply moved and she quickly took the spot that I had been in. And appeared to be more comfortable at that time,.. but she continued to question me about the sit the stand that I had mentioned. I was at that point becoming very uncomfortable but wanted to have a good experience from my initial therapy with body works. We eventually or I should say she eventually pulled up on her laptop what I said the stand was and proceeded to say, nice you have one of these. She even stated the amount at the time,.. since she was so curious about it I offered to bring it in for my sessions and she said how would you be able to do that and I stated that I had a wheelchair van that would be able to bring it. She proceeded to say wow that's very nice for you. At this time I'm not quite sure where all of this was leading. During part of our conversation she asked me if my legs moved and I stated that they did not and she bizarrely said to me that you really can't move your legs. I can go on but I'm not really sure what her problem was but eventually I asked if they was anyone else that I could work with and she stated yes.. which I intern said that would probably be a good idea. A young lady came out from the back her behavior was appropriate and she seemed to have a better demeanor then Lisa whom had told me that she was the owner. No matter what it seemed I was going to have to be evaluated by Lisa initially by this time I was over it. I wasn't feeling very welcomed and I promptly told Lisa that it probably was not going to be a good fit. I recently had abdominal surgery June 6th of this year and I have been looking forward to going to body works. I was looking forward to strengthening my muscles after the surgery. I don't know if Lisa was off put by me being disabled in a wheelchair and my limbs not working to full capacity., but I know that I wasn't made to feel comfortable and welcomed. I will say the receptionist that greeted us was nice before I met the owner.
