She layered my hair and constantly checked in with me making sure I was happy with the look. She was able to cut my hair so that it framed my face nicely. My hair looks healthy again. So I recently moved here to Milpitas from San Jose. I came here about two months ago and got a cut and color from Trang. She did an awesome job and I was really happy with it. So, today, I came in for another cut and color and I was so blown away with how Ahhh-MAZING my hair turned out! I'm a tad North of 50, so (IYKYK) its really hard getting your hair to look and feel good. I think I really love the fact that I can sum up in a few words what I want and Trang knows EXACTLY what to do and she does it so well! Not only does it look good, it feels good. I have been going here for 7 years now (since I was 15 years old). As someone who is particular about their hair, there is no one I trust more to cut my hair than Holly and Vy to color my hair. Over the course of the years, Simple Hair has been an extension of my family. They have cut my hair for some of the biggest milestones in my life (prom, hs graduation, moving to college). I've only been here once. They took me in last minute. There are several stylists available. Unless, you have an appointment with a specific stylist, you walk in write your name on a list then they'll call you when the next stylist is available. I waited for maybe 10 minutes. I had a picture of how I wanted my haircut and the stylist I think her name was Hanna did just fine. I didn't leave upset, crying, or unhappy--you know haircuts can be so traumatic. Vy fixed my hair not once but twice. First I came in with a very orangey brown bleach job that she made so pretty, dimensional and ASHY. Today she revived my entire look but fixing my horribly overgrown roots (my bad) and gave me a haircut and bleached some of my black hair to platinum IN ONE SESSION. And my hair is so soft and most importantly- not melting off my head. You can tell Vy cares a great deal about her work and her craft. She explains what she's doing during the bleaching process, carefully highlights certain pieces of hair and not others, and she also checks in to see if what she plans to do works for you. We came in as a walk-in and they took us in 15minutes, maybe even less. Unfortunately, the haircut ended up a bit uneven. She curled my hair, so I couldn't tell earlier, but after washing it, I can see that one side is quite a bit longer. :( read more

Extremely rude behavior. The staff consistently display rude behavior and treat customers differently based on race. There's always confusion with appointments, and they never offer a simple apology for their mistakes. Despite having an appointment, I was made to wait unnecessarily during my treatments while they tried to serve multiple clients at once. Please understand -- customers are paying for a service, not asking for a favor. As a regular customer, I've overlooked their behavior several times, assuming it was just a busy day or a one-off issue. But there's a limit. Came in the day before thanksgiving, highly recommend making appointment the day before. I'm glad I did, only waited for five minutes. My first time at this salon, so they assigned me to Ha. She washed my hair, dry, straight , cut. Took her time and very carefully, asked me if she can trim certain lengths. I was very happy with my haircut. Kim no longer works here apparently, but glad other stylists also do a good job. I was in desperate need of a haircut -- I haven't had a proper one in over a year! I had gone to Simple Hair before for cuts, so I know they're good and efficient. This time, I decided to bite the bullet and do some color, too. I sent a message through Yelp and was able to get an appointment within a few days. Vy took such good care of me -- she explained everything that she was doing and always made sure that I was okay with it. My hair had grown quite long and I wanted a good chunk chopped off. Vy reminded me that I could donate my hair -- to which I agreed -- and she skillfully pulled the hair together into smaller ponytails and packed it up for me to take home. So sweet! For color, I wanted a subtle brown balayage. I brought in reference photos, and she talked through her ideas and what she thought would work best with my hair without extensively damaging it. Vy was always super clear about what she was going to do, and she knew all the right questions to ask. Her experience definitely shows, and I felt a lot more comfortable leaving my virgin hair in her hands. Super happy with my cut and color! I've been meaning to update this review for so long, but I'm not as active on Yelp anymore. I used to see Crystal but I heard she moved out of state, so I've been seeing Kim since the pandemic and I'm so glad she's my stylist! I get a lot of compliments on my hair! In fact, I love the way my hair grows out. It always grows out nicely - which just shows you, she's a master in craft!! I really believe that the quality of the haircut shows in how well the hair grows out. Kim has also done highlights for me in the fall/winter and they came out beautiful. I'll add some pics. I went to this place on Thursday afternoon and walked out with the ugliest haircut of my life. Someone who looked like the owner was rude. she didn't bother to say hi or check my appointment. After waiting for a while, I told her my appointment was at 2:30 and tried to ask how much longer I'd need to wait. She just said 'I know' without looking at me or asking my name. A guy walked around asking everyone's name. About 10 minutes later, he came back and asked me to sit in the second chair. While I was waiting, I noticed other people getting nice haircuts when they paid, but I had no idea I was about to experience a disaster. First, the barber shampooed my hair, and the water was cold the entire time. I didn't say anything - my mistake! Then she asked how I wanted my hair cut, so I showed her a picture. The haircut was done really quickly, just like my hair length. Now I look 30 years older and like a man. The guy tried to say something to me when I paid, but I couldn't hear him. I was so mad and embarrassed, I just wanted to go home. I couldn't stay there another minute. Without thinking, I left a 20% tip and rushed out. I cried as soon as I got home and knew I'd regret this for the next three months until my hair grows back. I'm also mad at myself for not speaking up and telling them how bad the haircut was. Overall liked the vibes of this place, it was very easy to get an appointment for haircuts. I have very fine Asian hair, so layered looks tend to be a hit or miss depending on who cuts my hair. Here the person cutting my hair helped give suggestions of looks that would work best with my hair type. They also do a good job at men's haircuts and can replicate past looks you might have liked. I'm not sure why this place has so many high reviews. I had a very bad experience at this establishment and nothing of what I am about to say is an attack on anyone's character, I would never go as far as to say that anyone maliciously sabotaged my hair. But I have a few main complaints. 1. The stylists don't have pictures or refuse to provide samples of their work. This made getting my haircut especially stressful because I had no idea what they would be doing to my hair. The stylist actually told me to search a hairstyle on google images, pointed vaguely at the results, and said she could do that. 2. The stylists main language is not English. So if you don't speak Vietnamese, you're going to have a lot of trouble communicating expectations. I wasn't sure what hairstyle I wanted exactly but I said I wanted to try bangs and I was willing to trust my stylist to make it look pretty. Well that was kind of a mistake, the end result was messy bangs that run down to my nose, like completely covering my eyes. My eyes feel extremely irritated, and I can barely see. That's not how bangs are supposed to look, but the stylist assured me it looks really good when in reality it just looks like a mess. I wasn't ecstatic about the result but didn't want to make a scene or anything. The receptionist tells me if I don't like it they will fix it for me, but how can I trust someone to fix my hair if they ruined it? The end result looked nothing like any of the images she pointed to earlier. I feel really bad writing this because the person who cut my hair was a nice person so I'm sorry, but this was my experience. read more

Great experience! I badly needed a haircut after probably close to 3 years. I initially wanted it shorter, like slightly above the shoulder, but my stylist recommended I do a little longer probably so I didn't regret it. I think she was also worried I might get post-cut regret from cutting off so much hair but I was very ready to part from all my damage and split ends. I wish she took a little more time to ask me questions and confirm the style I wanted because I got the vibe that she had something she thought I would want and just kinda went for it. Like other reviews said, they're super fast here. I was probably in there for 40 minutes max with a cut, wash, blowdry, and straightening. With my long hair, the final price came out to $45. I was a little surprised at first since most other people said it was $35 and I don't see why there should be that much of a difference since she cut off all the excess length in the beginning anyway. I also felt like she could have taken more time to perfect everything, but overall I'm still happy and will probably be back for "simple hair"cut needs. read more

I've been coming here for around 2-3 years, and I've never been disappointed! I always requested Kim since I first started coming, and she's never let me down once in the many times that I've gone to Simple Hair. The salon itself is pretty big and always has a lot of stylists working. They always have music playing in the background to create a comfy vibe for all clients coming in. When you first walk in, you are asked to put your name and phone number on a sign-in sheet regardless of an appointment. I recommend making an appointment over the phone beforehand because it gets pretty busy on random days! I have thick, medium-course hair, so my main goal is to get it trimmed and thinned out each time I go. My hair tends to get frizzy when it gets too thick, and it grows fast enough for me to go to Simple Hair around 3-4 times a year. Kim has always been so friendly and chatty while she cuts my hair, and she always does a great job! Every visit, I ask for her input on how short I should trim my curtain bangs or how much I should trim my hair length before it gets too short, and she always seems to know what look I'm going for. Since I've been going for so long, she knows that I'm pretty consistent in the style that I want. I've heard that some hair stylists like to curl their clients' hair to hide some of the mistakes they might have made in the haircut, but Kim actually straightens my hair at the end of the appointment so she could fix any unevenness in my hair. The owner of this salon has chosen the perfect name for the salon "simple hair." This place can only give you simple hair cut or trimming. Good place to literally kids haircut, trimming or layering/styling females. But if you want anything fancy done to your hair go somewhere else. Took my teenager son for a haircut. He grew his hair out so he can get a nice haircut with longer bangs. We got assigned to a random lady who did not understand what we wanted. She also did not seem to be very knowledgeable or patient with us. My son clearly told her to slightly trim the bangs. And he wanted her to texture his backside. However she didn't know what texturing was. That should have been a red flag for us to get out of there. In the end my son is so upset he doesn't want to go out in public because she messed it up badly. She chopped off like 4-5 inches of the back and 2-3 inches off the front. They did offer to not take the money but I paid anyway. However they can't undo the terrible mistake on my son's hair. Don't take your teenagers here or don't go here if you want a particular haircut/style. Go somewhere and pay the bigger bucks. Haircut starts at $18 and they will jack your hair up. read more

Getting an appointment here was very easy to book and straightforward. Trang was my stylist and she was super fun to work with! I had come in here to color my hair back to my natural color, as well as get a trim to cut off dead ends, and Trang did what I asked for perfectly.
