I liked that the owner was personally present much of the time. I talked to a few of his crew and it is obvious that they have a good bit of experience working with wood floors. We are very happy with the finished product. These next comments don't relate to Tony's Floors... but you might find them helpful. We were not prepared for the smell. In retrospect, I wish we had booked a hotel room for about four nights. The house was a mess with sawdust everywhere. Orlando did a good job of taping up plastic and wrapping chandeliers and lights, but over time, some of that tape gave away and opened up. Then the smell of the stain and polyurethane is overwhelming. We stayed in our room, put towels under the door and opened with windows... but not pleasant. Then be prepared, you cannot walk on floors for several days. We were able to build a bridge using a ladder and a 2 x 12 board, but we got lucky. So prepare ahead of time, take everything you will need and book a hotel room. Finally, be ready to clean even after Orlando and crew complete their clean. They did a good job, but no way to easily remove the dust in every area. It's the reality. At the end, our floors look great and it was worth it, but it's not a simple, easy project.

Orlando and his team just finished refinishing the oak floors in our home. They have done an…read moreabsolutely meticulous job from start to finish, repairing damage to the point that it's not visible at all. The flooring, which is likely as old as our 1970 house, looks brand new. Beautiful craftsmanship, reasonable and reliable, I would not hesitate to recommend Tony Romero's Floors to anyone looking to install or repair/refinish wood floors.

I wish we could give this company a zero. We signed a contract to build a new home with Jim…read moreGearing and Westco in 2019. It is now nearly 2025 and we have no home. What we do have is an incomplete home with LIENS from contractors because Jim did not pay them. We know he did not pay for the building permits. We know he did not pay the on site porta potty vendor. We have had items like flooring, cabinets, and appliances in storage for 2 years or more. They could not be installed because Jim could not pay his portion so that completed work would be paid from the construction draw. We terminated his contract (it was already 4 years late on delivery) and are considering legal action. The problem is that we can't get an accounting on what has been done or any response. Believe me we tried. He dodged meetings, he did not respond to phone calls, he did not respond to emails and he just lied about what was being done. It was always, "I'll get it done by Christmas" or "it will be finished in 60 days." Our house will be finished because we had to take over as the main contractor. We had to pay off all the leins Jim left behind (and never bothered to mention). I am happy to go into painstaking detail about how horrible working with Jim Gearing and Westco is. I would not wish this experience on anyone.

Westco has reneged on a signed and notarized punchlist and on a signed and notarized warranty. They…read morehave repeatedly lied to us and have repeatedly broken promises and commitments. Working with them has been a three-year nightmare. Westco made no attempt to keep to a schedule, even though my husband and I were expending money on construction loan interest and rent while they were working. The foreman spent most of his time working on his own house (which appears to use the same type of materials as our house). Jim Gearing, the president of Westco, kept promising to fix things. For instance, he promised for five months to fix the roof of the woodworking shop for my husband. However, he did not keep these promises, and we finally just stopped paying him until work was completed. We refinanced from a construction loan to a regular mortgage in July 2011. We had an agreement signed by Jim Gearing and notarized that he would complete the punchlist and honor the home warranty. However, he has not done either, and he does not return our phone calls or emails. I have waylaid him in his office three times, and he has promised to send someone to fix the problems. However, no one comes. We insisted that Westco fix the badly aligned fireplace backdrop. His workers fixed it but took the fireplace screen, installed the glass backwards, scraped the black paint around the fireplace, and left the tray and screen in disarray. There are many other examples of where "fixes" have resulted in my husband and I having to do even more extensive repairs. In addition to lying and breaking promises on a regular basis, the builder way over-charged and under-delivered. We are now having to redo many of the items at our own expense (e.g., stripping and restaining doors, scrubbing paint and compound off floors, replanting trees, etc.) I have repeatedly asked Jim Gearing for a list of contractors, in case we need to contact them in the future. He says, "You just call me" (except that he doesn't return calls) or "I don't remember."
