I loved everything about this place. A little bit of a drive for us but definitely worth it. The owner worked the cash register and helped us decide on the perfect breakfast and coffee. I got the burrito bowl which was expensive but had avocado, salsa and the right amount of cheese. I chose turkey sausage and it kept me full through a busy day of sports. My husband and son got the breakfast sandwich on a croissant (their go to; not on the menu, but they accommodated). They said it was just okay. As a neighborhood spot, I can see how this place is super popular. The surrounding areas are all houses, so when people are trying to get their coffee I can see that this place is one of the top spots just because of convenience. The coffee was good, and the sandwich was alright as well. I wouldn't say I have spectacular comments, but I thought it was decent for what it was. I enjoyed both of the items I got, but I do think I should probably order something different to see if there's something else that is better than what I got. I got the pesto chicken sandwich. I preferred the spinach avocado salad to the simply's house salad because I felt the former was a lot more unique and the strawberries balanced out the salad a lot. I have meetings across the county for work, so I'm always paying attention for local coffee shops because I don't go to the green mermaid lady shop. I've seen simply social before while in this area but it was before I became a regular coffee drinker (I.e. before having a baby). Simply Social is simply the best! I started visiting during the pandemic when I was pregnant with my second child and looking to break up the days with a nice sweet treat. Now my baby is three years old and we ALL love going to Simply Social together. The drive-through is an absolute godsend on busy days. The baristas are always so sweet, so quick, and always on top of everything they do. My go-to is an oat milk latte but their seasonal specials are always so fun to try. My favorite is their summertime iced lattes with Vietnamese coffee jelly cubes. They serve some of the best pastries in the area (I dream about their croissants) and my daughters' love their bacon, egg, and cheese breakfast sandwiches on busy mornings. They give a free quarter of a pizzelle cookie with every drink order and this just makes my kids' day. Woman-owned, minority-owned, locally-owned. I was craving a latte and saw that Simply Social Coffee wasn't too far from where I was. There's plenty of parking, and the interior is cozy with a good amount of seating. If I came here earlier (instead of 10 minutes before closing), it would've been a great spot to get some work done. The menu has an extensive selection of coffee and tea, along with small bites like pastries and breakfast sandwiches and "lunch" options like sandwiches and salads. Since the seasonal coffee menu still features holiday drinks, I got a PEPPERMINT MOCHA (dark chocolate mocha by default). The barista told me the drink wasn't too sweet, which was perfect. The drink came out pretty well, but I would've preferred a strong espresso flavor (looks like they use Counter Culture's Gradient beans, based on a a sign I saw). Overall, 4.5/5, but will bump it up to a 5/5 for what the cafe offers. In the future, I'd definitely come back to Simply Social to catch up with friends in the area or get some work done. I've stopped by Simply Social Coffee a few times while in the area and usually go for their seasonal drinks. While the drinks are spot on when made well, sometimes it can be slightly watered down or just lukewarm when specifically requesting it as 'extra hot' - it's a consistency issue. I've also tried their almond croissants, which isn't the greatest if you get it later in the morning/afternoon, as it tends to get dry and chewy. The few times I did order the Spicy Black Bean Wrap was delicious, which is a tortilla filled with a black bean patty, baby spinach, pepper jack cheese, avocado mix, tomatoes, and a chipotle sauce - however, there are times in which the tortilla isn't warmed and is dry, they leave out the pepper jack cheese, or there's hardly any of the chipotle sauce in there - when you do request for some extra sauce, they charge you. I guess it's just a gamble on the staff or the barista who makes your food/drinks on your visit. There are some seating indoors as well as their own little patio. They also have a drive-thru, too. Very good coffee shop that fulfills that itch of wanting to get caffeinated in the afternoon. The space is very spacious with numerous amounts of tables inside and outside to sit down at. There's even a section where they have a fireplace as well if you wanted to lounge too. The place is decorated and it's cute too. For my coffee, I got their Seasonal Lavender Vanilla Latte with Whole Milk. It was very good and it was not very strong but not too bitter either. Perfect temperature and they even brought it out to the table I sat down too. The almond croissant was amazing too, I was even asked if I'd like it warm and also they brought it out to me. I had a deeply upsetting experience at this coffee shop that I feel obligated to share--not just for myself, but for others who've faced the same treatment. And judging by the other reviews, I am not the only one. If you check the reviews, you'll see that many people have had similar issues with the owner . Her rudeness and unprofessionalism are a pattern, not a one-time incident. Here's what happened: I had a lot of work to do and needed a quiet place to focus. I first stopped by a different café to get a sandwich, but their coffee machine was broken. So, I took my sandwich and went to this coffee shop to get a drink and sit down to work. I did not come in without buying something--I ordered water, then a coffee, and I sat down quietly to work. Yes, I had a sandwich from somewhere else, and I understand that it's not ideal to bring outside food--but I was trying to finish urgent work and didn't expect what happened next. The owner came up to me and immediately started speaking to me in a rude and condescending way, saying it's not okay to bring outside food and I'm "showing other brands" in her café. I politely told her I didn't know and that I was sorry. I even offered to leave right away if that's what she wanted. She said, "No, I'll let you stay this time, but don't do it again." I thanked her and tried to go back to my work, thinking that was the end of it. But it wasn't. She kept talking at me !making gestures with her hands and repeating that what I did was "not acceptable" and asking me, "You understand, right? You understand?" over and over again. At this point, I felt humiliated and uncomfortable. So, I stood up calmly, packed my sandwich, and told her, "Actually, I'll just leave." She continued to insist that I was wrong, her tone and body language full of attitude and disrespect. I told her I didn't need the coffee anymore, and she refunded me--but with more unnecessary rudeness. I left feeling shaken and humiliated. I later called the store to speak to her privately and explained that I've been going through a very difficult time. I recently lost my sister and had a miscarriage. This was the first day I pushed myself to go outside. I told her that kindness is free and that I had been nothing but polite to her. Her response? "I'm sorry for your loss, but I'm going to hang up now." And she did. This is not how you treat people. This is not how you speak to paying customers--especially when they are being respectful. The way she embarrassed me in front of others, the coldness she showed even after hearing about my pain, and the complete lack of empathy or professionalism was shocking. Again, I urge anyone reading this to check the other reviews--so many customers have complained about this owner's attitude. It's honestly unbelievable this continues to happen. People in Virginia are known for being warm and respectful, and this experience was the opposite of that. And what I noticed is the owner never accepts any negative reviews with humility. Instead of simply saying "sorry" and acknowledging the issue, she always gets defensive. Every time someone leaves constructive criticism or shares a bad experience, she responds by justifying herself rather than listening. Second, during brief lulls in morning rush, numerous staff grab their phones and heads down texting or FaceTiming someone with no earbuds. Seems like there would always be something to do (cleaning, organizing, restocking, bathroom checks, resetting tables and chairs, etc). I pointed out the other car parked the same way; she insisted he was "facing the right way" and kept escalating. I told her she was, "Doing too much." Which triggered her even more. She then said, " what did you say!?" "I'll just give you a refund!!"and she walked inside. I quickly turned my car around to park the way she told me to--no big deal. She brought my food out and started lecturing me again about "safety hazards" (which was ridiculous, as it affected no one). As I was trying to explain to her that she could've handled that situation better and that this will be my last time here, she reached into my car window, waving at the food, and aggressively offered a refund again, even though I never asked for one. It felt invasive and threatening--I genuinely felt unsafe with her hand in my vehicle--so I rolled up my window and asked, "What is wrong with you?" That's when she threw her arms up dramatically and yelled, "Don't come back!" (I even have video of that part.) This was the most over-the-top, disrespectful experience I've ever had at a coffee shop. I was just trying to pick up my order and support a local spot--I'd ordered plenty of food--but the attitude was hostile from start to finish. Zero professionalism. Their sandwiches are good and I did enjoy the Dirty Matcha which is a matcha latte with two shots of espresso. I don't like how their matcha has no sugar free version but they make up for it by offering dairy alternatives like almond and soy milk. I come here once every other week as my mom enjoys having brunch there with our dogs and there aren't that many options in the area with clean outdoor seating. I prefer the seating arrangement in the other Fairfax location. What I AM dinging them on is their unwillingness to accommodate. I asked for hot water so I can mix the coffee up- my mom sometimes likes her coffee watered down but she doesn't know how much until she tries it. They said I'd have to pay- for HOT WATER? Never been asked this. Sounds petty but it's that type of neighborly service that I expect of coffee shops. I also don't like them asking for tip- this is a self service place. This goes for all self service shops. I feel pressured to pay at least 10% bc they stare intently at you as you fill that out when you pay. This is my local coffee shop and I love to shop local and support small business owners. Unfortunately, this will be my last time going to this establishment. They literally lost my business over a cup of ice. I purchased a drink in their open air cabinet, discovered that it wasnt cold, and asked for a cup of ice. The owner (I believe) told me that they charge for cups because it's an inventory item. Frankly I don't care if cups are an inventory item. I care that my overpriced beverage was warm on a very hot day and that the person in charge didn't care enough to give me a cup of ice. I have been visiting this place on an off since it opened and have been underwhelmed by the wrong drinks, undertrained staff, and high priced food. The food inspires me to cook at home because I can do better for less money. Seriously, either make sure your drinks cold or give people ice.
