I was traveling through the area and came across this corner stall in Pike Place Seattle. The prices are decent, the women selling the products were friendly and helpful with any questions. They offer samples if you are unsure if you would like a certain product. I haven't tasted many dried fruits or vegetables so I was interested in sampling a few. I did end up purchasing Dried Okra, Dried Green Beans, and Dried Granny Smith Apples. I would recommend them all but my two favorites were Okra and Granny Smith. I even found a small piece of a Dried Granny Smith apple shaped like a heart in my bag! Depending on the item, the bag sizes vary. Most I have seen in person and online are around 4-6 Oz and 2.2 lbs. I've been buying from "Simply the Best" since they first opened in its current spot at the Pike Place Market. I discovered crispy vegetable chips here before they became common in the bulk food sections in the grocery stores. They buy the majority of their products. BUT the must have, when it is in season, is their house made honeycrisp apple 'crisp'. They aren't exactly chip crisp, but super delish good-for-you dried apple rings. They have awesome dried basically nearly all produce items. They used to offer samples on everything, but it's more complicated now with COVID. During this visit, they have some pre-bagged garlic chips. Hey, I like garlic, sure, why not? It's fantastic! It has the garlic taste but not that sharpness. Long story short, I bought one. My other favorites is the okra, no slime involved. Some of their seasonal fruits are very good too. Pro-tip: Be sure to ask how each is dried. Things like strawberries have added sugar and oil. Others are more straight forward like air drying, which the garlic was. Another Pro-tip is if you LOVE something, they have big ~5lb bags that they are willing to sell for select items. Came during an Eat Seattle food tour and got to try the honeycrisp apples, the Peruvian corn, beet chips, and Glad corn. The apples were sweet but not very crisp. The Peruvian corn was like extra large corn nuts which honestly was not my favorite. The beet chips were AMAZING! And lastly for the Glad corn....I for some reason or another heard "crack corn" when my tour guide passed it out and let me tell you...this stuff is like crack. If corn nuts and popcorn had a child, it would be this Glad corn. They look like partially popped kernels and were crispy without being hard on the teeth. After our tour we came back specifically for the beet chips and Glad corn but also left with a few bags of green beans and honeycrisp apples after sampling a bunch of items. The lady behind the counter was also very nice and allowed us to peruse all the choice and go back and forth as we sorted out just how much we wanted to buy. Simply The Best sells a great array of dried fruits and vegetables that make for some tasty snacks to eat on the go. Generally speaking, 6 oz bags are $5 (tax included) and 12 oz bags are $10 (yep, tax included). The reason why my husband and I came here was because of the free samples we had during our free walking tour, as this vendor was one of the handful of places we visited on the tour. We were also told that those on the tour will also receive a 10% discount on the total purchase. So after our tour, we came back here and ended up getting: 12 oz Dried Cantaloupe, $10 (tax included)- An incredibly sweet piece of cantaloupe, one of favorite fruits that we bought. In general, fruits that are dried will taste sweeter than when it is fresh because of the concentrated natural sugars that you will taste (as the water was drained during the dehydration process). But this cantaloupe is even sweeter with the added cane sugar (still sugar people). 12 oz Crystallized Ginger, $10 (tax included)- I am not a fan of crystallized ginger but my husband really enjoyed it. My mom and a friend of ours tried some and also enjoyed it. 6 oz Dried Strawberries, $5 (tax included)- I have never tried drying strawberries and so I was surprised this place sold this. I really liked the dried strawberries and am surprised that it is still able to retain it's shape so well during the drying process. ----------------------------- (Total= $25 but came out to $22.50 after our 10% tour discount) When we first came over to Simply The Best during our walking tour, the friendly person working this place was saying that they sell "all natural" treats and that "no sugar is added". But I do need to mention that cane sugar is added to the fruits, which is well, sugar. So do not make the misconception that this is a real healthy treat. Especially when people tend to eat out of the bag and in a larger amount than what is considered 1 serving size (yep the dietitian in me ruined it for you). But anyways, there are some really great snacks here that is worth trying. Just ask the employees and they will give you a sample of everything they are selling. Great dried fruit and veggie vendor in Pike Place Market. You can't miss it. It's at the entrance of the market, right opposite of the fish vendor that does the fish throw show. I was actually recommended to come here after having tried their products from another localmy produced food sourcer a few weeks ago. There I had a chance to try their dried apples, okra and at the market this time I also got to try their dried green beans. Seriously, their selection is huge...be it fruit or veggies. There are just so many and they dont mind you trying. The small bags are 4oz and cost $5 (including tips). But since I tried their apples, okra and green beans and liked their Okra best, I opted for a 2 lb bag of okra and it cost $30 including taxes (you get better deal than getting small bags..but you also are stuck with larger portion and just a single selection of fruit/veggie of choice). For me, it wasn't a problem. I loved their okra chips, and planned to make baked brie appetizers to go with them...so I think I have a way to get rid of that huge bag I got in a timely manner. The young lady at the market was nice as well. She offered information, let me try whatever samples I wanted...and I was impressed with the quality of their products for sure. The name says it all. I'm a huge fan of dried fruits, and this one does not disappoint. My major complaints with most dried fruits are the way they tend to have too much added sugar, or are dried in a way that leaves them a little soggy. Simply the Best overcomes those common letdowns and delivers a great level of dryness and natural sweetness with no additives or preservatives. The reason I love this place so much is their variety of fruits. Whereas in most places you'll only find your standby peaches, mangos, pineapples, raisins, and apricots. It was here that I tried my first bite of Dried Strawberry, Dried Blueberry, and Dried Sour Cherry. And my goodness, they're delicious. The The Dried Fig is also great, but only after you hydrate the outer layer a little with your saliva. Simply the Best doesn't have the widest variety of dried fruits out there, but they have a solid selection of about two dozen fruits. They also have a good selection of granola, oatmeal, and dried vegetables that I have yet to try. My only request is that they finally get around to getting some dried kiwi. That's my absolute favorite kind of dried fruit, and I'd love to see what it tastes like dried over their alternative heat wood powered furnace. The price can feel a little high, but it's definitely worth it. You won't get dried fruit that's produced with this level of care from many places. The service is also great, with a friendly person always waiting to give out samples of any of the fruits. I love dry fruit and when I got to sample their apple chips, I immediately bought 4 bags for about $10. I got 4 different kinds since I figure that's the best way to really gauge just how good they are. They don't add any additional sugar and Simple the Best just left it as it was originally. I loved the granny smith apple chips. It's a little bit tart but its oddly addicting. As for the honey crisp, it's sweet, and the slight crunch to the chips make it an absolute joy to snack on. Definitely a healthier alternative to potato chips! However, the other two were a disappoint. For golden delicious, it seems like it wasn't completely dried. It didn't have the crunch that the granny smith had, or it could be that's it's old. The fuji apple was good, very sweet but the chips but lack the crunch the other had. Maybe it's because I ate the fuji lost so it got a little old or maybe it's the type of apples but I did expect consistency. There's a lot of other dried fruits there and I was really hoping for guava but I guess it is too exotic :P I wouldn't mind coming back next time just to give the other fruits a try but for now, if you want apple chips, make sure to eat them fast before it gets old. read more

And other than accepting a piece of dried apple from them on occasion, I never really gave Simply the Best a lot of thought. However, a couple times a year, I embark on an exercise and eating challenge with my gym for 60 days. Tons of whole foods, no sugar, no artificial anything, no soy...it's a giant list of "no's". Dried fruit is a good treat in lieu of a macaron--especially when you're 20 days in to the challenge and anything that is not a roasted yam is like ambrosia. Some of their dried fruit has cane sugar: cantaloupe, kiwi and a couple of other things. But the apples, pears, coconut, cranberries and many other options are not only sugar-free, but they are SUPER inexpensive. Once you do the math about what you spend at a regular store versus them, you'll kick yourself. They also have the best whole vegetable chips ever. Squash, green beans, carrots, taro. Just the vegetable, some oil and salt. Awesome. You can order stuff online from them too; I'm sure they offer even more items than what you see at the stand. I was visiting Seattle from Toronto, and bought 4 small bags of dried fruit for $10. They are the perfect airport/plane snack -- light, tasty, unsmushable, and don't need refrigeration. The staff are very jolly and happy to provide samples or suggestions. I got the pineapple, mango, rasberry banana, and pear. I think the pear is my favourite, although the pineapple, a close 2nd, was also really sweet and refreshing. Everything is bursting with fruity goodness without any additives or artificial flavouring. It's all in the name! This was the highlight of visiting the Pike's market. I mean the salmon throwing was cool, but nothing beats free samples of fruits dried fresh that are top notch to begin with. Some of the juicier fruits have sugar added as part of the drying process (kiwi, strawberry, pineapple), but they are all natural and most have only one ingredients. The favorites among us were the Granny Smith apples, the cherries, mango and strawberries. These tasty snacks were a great start to our road trip to San Diego. read more

The staff is helpful and always willing to hand out samples so you can figure out what you like. They're a local business and do deliver, but for the cost of delivery, it's better to just pick up a bag if you're in pike place area. Been getting dried apples and beets here for years. Our favorite of the apples are the cinnamon dusted. It's tempting to eat way too many in a sitting, it's easy to convince yourself it's a healthy candy... There are many other choices of apples, apricots, beets, kiwi... so many things. They're right at the main entrance to the market, across from the guys that throw fish and the pig. I was really glad the Chelan fires didn't put them out of business for long. The very friendly woman who worked there offered him dried blueberries and he was in heaven. It's a lie! There are no preservatives, but the berries and more DO have sugar added!!! Some of the labels say 'no additives' but have an oil coating & cane sugar added. The vegetables have dextrose, even though it's not on the list of ingredients, and they're imported from Vietnam. I worked there, & hopefully no diabetics, or pesticide-sensitive people were made sick before I found out the truth about what i was selling. Once I became aware of the true nature of the products, I made some changes & attempts to let the customer know exactly what they were getting.
