My friend brought me to this establishment on October 11th in the hopes that I would be over the moon thrilled with a restaurant that has the namesake of the country I once resided in. Well, not so much... I'm not sure where to start. The service, well, it started off rocky. I was walking into the establishment from my car, and the hostess'/cashier's boyfriend/baby daddy nearly ran me over in his vehicle. When I got into the establishment, the driver/boyfriend was walking back and forth through the establishment trying to wrangle his two daughters who were running about throughout the establishment. The rough start aside, I stayed at the establishment because, as previously noted, my friend really wanted me to give this place a try. This child care/ wrangling also took most of the attention of the one hostess'/cashier who was the only person aside from the boyfriend who was working in the front of the house. *Please note, this review is not just based upon the fact that I lived in Singapore for 4 years and have been to Vietnam, but also based upon the fact that I know authentic Chinese food when I taste it. Pu pu platter A typical pu pu platter, as found in American Chinese cuisine, includes appetizers such as egg rolls, spare ribs, chicken wings, chicken fingers, beef teriyaki, skewered beef, fried wontons, fried shrimp, or crab rangoons. Again, I make note that this is not a traditional dish found in Singapore. Reluctantly, I ordered it as my friend wanted to try the dish. The ribs for the dish were mostly fat and wouldn't be something that I'd order if I had seen the caliber of meat beforehand. The eggrolls and ribs were both dripping with grease. Unfortunately, the fatty ribs coupled with grease on the dish made this a 'miss'. Salt & Pepper Shrimp The pepper element used most in traditional Chinese cuisine is generally Sichuan peppercorns, which these shrimp did not have. Instead, these shrimp were loaded with a hefty amount of salt. This shrimp had so much salt that the meal was inedible. Hot & Sour Soup This is usually a fan favorite as it's a great combination of spicy and savory, made with pork, mushrooms (depending upon the region in which it is made), bamboo shoots, tofu, and eggs in a savory seasoned broth with soy sauce and vinegar. But, this soup was not that. This soup was neither hot nor sour. This was a soup with tofu, sure, but that is where the similarities of this recognizable soup come to an end. The food and service provided by this establishment were less than stellar, and a two-star rating is generous. You've been warned. read more

Ordered the pork fried rice and eggroll through DoorDash. I got the large portion for a $2 upcharge from the regular size (see picture) and it could feed 3-4 people, or just two if both are really hungry. It was good, not the best I have ever had but typical, with the classic ingredients and not the carrot and peas some places put. read more

This was our go-to takeout place for years. Their food was good, service was quick and friendly and prices reasonable. But they had some change in management and it's been awful ever since then. Once we got home to realize we were missing half the order, and recently they forgot to check for online orders so we ended up waiting close to an hour to get our takeout with the "ten more minutes" excuse throughout. And no offer to compensate us for the ridiculous situation (we paid online so couldn't just walk out). And even the food quality is down -- it's now bland at best. We ordered two dinner specials which come with egg roll, rangoon, soup rice and entree for $9.95. I ordered the General Cho chicken with fried rice and wonton soup. My hunny ordered Hunan beef with fried rice and hot sour soup. I enjoyed the egg roll and rangoon, very fresh and tasty. Wonton soup broth delicious, the wonton was quickly moved to the side after tasting it. Hunny enjoy his soup, says it was spicy and different with the carrots. The fried rice was underwhelming, lacked flavor super basic. The Hunan beef was tasty, meat very tender, veggies were delish. The General Cho was ok. Meat was fresh tasting and very tender. Very large pieces. Definitely not the same as General Tso, so don't get it twisted. It was more like fried chicken thigh in a nice batter with hot sweet and sour sauce poured over it. Our food came out very hot. Staff was nice, made sure our drinks stayed full and made sure we enjoyed our meal. Chicken pieces were a little large for me and the rice needs some work. New management is HORRIBLE. Especially the girl up front. Every time our order is wrong or stuff missing, or both. When we went to ask about our missing items, she was incredibly rude, and blamed US?? Even implying we were lying and claiming she'd check the cameras to prove she was right and we were wrong. Food is still decent, not quite as good as it used to be but definitely not worth dealing with the horrible staff, horrible service, and wrong orders every single time. Been going here for years. I hate to say it, but that this place just seems like it makes no effort. Upon waking in I saw no masks at all. I have asthma and so I really appreciate it when they wear masks. I wear mine as well. Still, that's not the major issue here. I ordered and sat while they made my order. In the kitchen I hear a horrible and repeating hacking cough. Who is that coughing? A cook? Someone preparing my to go order? Come on, if an employee is hacking that bad, send them home! And then I got my food and looked at it. The fried rice had literally three little pieces of carrots in it. And then I tried the dish. Tofu with vegetables. Absolutely tasteless. I have made Chinese at home better than this. So my husband's birthday was yesterday. He used to order from this restaurant all the time and bring me some whenever he got out of work at the airport. It was always good and the portions were great! It's been a few years now and he got nostalgic. We decided to go and get some dinner from here for his birthday. We got there around 8:45pm. The place looked a little messy and there was only one server who was behind the counter taking a phone order. We placed our order and waiting in the corner of the restaurant on 2 little chairs that were presumably for take out orders. We waited 40 mins for 2 plates, a soup and some rangoons. We were trying to open the bag to check the order but we were told everything was in there and the server assured us because she checked herself. We had been patient and saw others come and go but I didn't want to ruin his birthday so I stayed quiet. We got home and realized they'd not given us rice. My "Walnut Shrimp" was covered in a white sauce that was off putting. It was coated in it and there was pecans, not walnuts. They were not flavored as advertised either. My husband was okay with his chicken but it was not as good as he remembered and it was lacking without the rice on both plates. I tried to call the restaurant and was put on hold for 15 mins and by hold, I mean the phone was put down and I could hear where people were laughing in the background. So 55 minutes of waiting total for this restaurant not including a 40 min ride to and back. So 95 minutes technically. I called the restaurant to talk to them today and all they could tell me was that when I go back next time, they will give me rice. That's it. No other compensation, no apology. I will NEVER go back here and I suggest if you are new and thinking of going here, don't. Save your money and try something else. This is not what it was and not worth what it is now. read more

The food is pretty good and I looked up their heath inspection records and they are all in the high 90s, with minor violations. My only issue is the amount of hoarding in the dining area. Today my husband and I went to this restaurant for lunch it's actually pretty close to his job so we wanted to have some Chinese. I really did enjoy this place on first look it's a pretty good size, it was pretty clean and the prices were reasonable. I ordered the egg foo yong and my husband ordered the beef and garlic sauce. The appetizers were not good to me. However the main course was really delicious. Normally when I've gotten the egg foo young, all the meat is inside the egg foo young and then a sauce to pour on top of it, in this instance the sauce actually came with all the ingredients and the beef on the side as you can see on the plate in the picture the egg foo yong was by itself with rice it still was very delicious. I was in the area around 9:00 on a Friday night so I gave this place a shot, and I was so happy I did! The restaurant was pretty empty but very clean. Friendly service. We tried egg rolls, crab rangoon, sesame chicken, egg drop soup, and wonton soup. I haven't had sesame chicken with that much crunch and flavor in a long time. The crab Rangoon was perfect. They provided a basket of crispy wontons and dipping sauce as an appetizer for free. All in all, it was $23 for the two of us to eat. Not bad! The only thing I wasn't crazy about was the wonton soup. Came in for takeout dinner. No wait, it was pretty quiet on Thursday evening. The gentleman helping me was nice and friendly. Ordered the Cantonese style seafood noodle which is a crispy egg noodle. Tasted very good and had snow peas, broccoli, shrimp, imitation crab, and squid. Took about 10-15 minute wait. He noticed I had a lot of items on hand so opened the door for me. Will return and try their other food items! Cost was around $10-12 per entree. Dinner specials were cheaper, but of course are the less authentic Chinese items. Can't complain about the service, it is on par with most Chinese restaurants. I am pointing this out since it would be unfair to do cross culture comparisons. :) And, it's really more a casual Chinese diner than a fancy restaurant. read more

I have failed every single time I've ordered from here to take a picture before diving into my food. My dad actually found this gem (THANK YOU!) and as crazy as it may be, we have eaten only one dish from Singapore - again, and again, and again. The reason for this is because my entire family is OBSESSED with this one particular dish - Puerto Rican Fried Rice. My mouth is watering just preparing to speak about it. It's a fried rice dish with chicken, beef, pork & shrimp mixed in the rice and a slab of sliced chicken on top. It is probably my favorite dish from any restaurant I've eaten at in San Antonio. Soak that in for a second. The portion is absolutely massive, it's always served hot & fresh, and for the price, it is a steal! The sesame chicken was chewy, slightly transparent, and seemed a little undercooked (even for being dark meat),the fried rice was bland, I don't eat seafood and the "server" told me that it's okay to eat the crab Rangoon's because it's imitation crab, the server is unaware of what imitation crab meat is made of (usually white fish)...and he sat in the dinning room watching TV, we were the only ones in the restaurant. The ambiance was ok. My chicken and vegetables was bland. The beef and vegetables was decent. The fried rice was abundant but didn't have anything in it, and was not very tasty. I don't expect the waiter to ask me if I'm mad at him or why I'm in a mood, and is it perhaps because he has tattoos...on his face ?!? Then, proceed to take a chair and plop himself at our table to " chat " I don't go eat out with my husband so that I can advise him on how to deal with his plight on homelessness and other life related challenges... I should not have to explain to a waiter the reasons for my not " friendly mood " I was accused of. It was uncalled for, because I was in a lot of pain due to a fracture and a cast, and shouldn't have to take 45 minutes out of my dinner and life to help someone figure their life out. This is the first time we've eaten here and we ordered takeout last night and was given a time to pick up the order. We got there about 10 min after that time and the order wasn't ready so we waited in the side corner on a couple of chairs. I had to go back to the counter one time to make sure they had us in the system because we waited about 30-35 more minutes. The restaurant wasn't packed. The area we waited at looked very messy with a table with about 100 random old dusty magazines flopped and piled on it as if a hoarder lived here. There was a little girl that was an owner/worker's daughter running all about through the restaurant barefoot and the owner/worker having to follow after her so she wouldn't destroy anything. When we received our food the counter attendant was nice and apologized. We had ordered two pad thai's and egg rolls. On the drive home I thought the food had a weird smell as if the seasonings didn't smell like pad thai, but hoped for the best. What we got was an enormous amount of noodles with some meat and vegetables in a sauce but it was not pad thai by any means. Not sure what it was. I don't know if they need to find an actual recipe for pad thai but it was not. It didn't even taste like what lo mein would taste like. It was awful. The eggroll tasted fine. We ended up not eating it as it was very off-putting and ordered pizza. Sad. read more

Got a menu in our mailbox earlier this week and so we thought we would scope them out for dinner. I was definitely feeling the Vietnamese side of the menu. So I ordered the pork ban mi. Somehow my order got confused and I ended up getting the pork and shrimp rice vermicelli. It was a happy accident as the man (who I assume was the owner) that is better and I'll just charge you for the sandwich. He was right! It was excellent! The hot and sour soup I ordered was also very good as was the coconut shrimp appetizer that we started with. My wife got one of the dinner combos of sweet and sour pork and for our little boy we got him the sweet and sour shrimp. All the food we ordered was delicious, their prices are very reasonable too. I would pass on the crab ragoon in the future, because it didn't taste like crab at all. My absolute girst choice when craving asian food. They've got practically anything you could want and the portions are INSANE for the price. the lunch portion of fried rice is enough to fill you up and you can still take half of it home, the whole portion will fill the to-go box practically to the brim. So my friend went in there to see what they have and supposedly he was being very rude to her because she had a question like some thing and he was like no it's this and that like no it's not this I can only make it this way not that and he was just being rude and I was like you know what now so we didn't get food. Her question was can you get the walnuts and shrimp with a different noodle and he was saying no and it was just rude we didn't want to eat there so yeah that's my review probably just going to be learning how to make Chinese on my own because I don't think stinky feet is the way. read more
