When you walk into a card and game shop, you expect at least some level of enthusiasm or willingness to help--especially with games like Pokémon, Magic, or Warhammer. Unfortunately, that just wasn't the case here. Customer service makes a big difference, and this experience completely turned me off from coming back.

I'm not a huge Lego enthusiast but if the giant Lego stores were Walmart or Costco, this place felt like a true hobbyist's boutique shop. Not a lot of real estate but packed with unique sets and collectibles. My son was here for birthday party which is hosted in the room in the back. He had a blast making Lego racecars and racing/crashing them down a giant ramp. Each kid got to design and build their own unique mini-figure to take home too! If you do have a party for little kids - their parents or staff will have to make sure they actually stay in the party room. Don't want them to accidentally knocking over anything like the $1000 Millenium Falcon on display.

Toy Trains! Model Kits! And all the other art sets, car tracks, European and Japanese toys and "Stuff." You know how a modern store just has people behind the counter? Hobby Works has staff walking the floor to help you. And they really help. And they know their stuff. And when you're there, it's got that friendly clubhouse atmosphere like you stopped off here while walking home from school in the 6th grade. Sometimes it feels like with online shopping, kids won't ever experience the friendly local stores like we did. Not while Hobby Works is open, it's all modern, but it's a shopping experience that most stores lost over the years- and our kids deserve to experience that friendliness.

The store is so wonderful, located right across the way from Eastern Market on Capitol Hill.
