I really wanted to love this place. My family and I chose to come here for Easter because it's dog-friendly -- which felt like the perfect combination for us. They even have a dog menu, and the patio setup is honestly beautiful. The ambiance is warm, inviting, and aesthetically on point. The staff greets you right away, and first impressions were genuinely great. We chose to sit outside on the balcony so my puppy could join us, and that space alone is worth noting -- fire pits going, cozy atmosphere, just really well done. Unfortunately, everything went downhill from there. We ordered food for all of us, including my daughter and my puppy. My food and my puppy's food came out fairly quickly, but my daughter's meal never arrived. After waiting quite a while, I had to flag down the waiter, only to be told -- after the fact -- that they didn't even have what she ordered. At no point before that did anyone communicate this. So now she has to reorder, and we're waiting all over again while the rest of us are already eating. When her food finally arrives, there's no silverware. Just... dropped off with no thought to the fact that she actually needed utensils to eat. We also ordered lemonade, which was great -- but when the waiter offered to bring more after the issues, it never came. To try and make up for things, they brought out a dessert that looked beautiful, but when we asked what was in it (due to food sensitivities), the waiter had no idea. He eventually came back with an allergy sheet, which felt like an afterthought rather than informed service. At that point, I asked to speak with a manager. Instead, the waiter told me, "I just got out of trouble -- what can I do to make this right?" That response alone was incredibly off-putting and unprofessional. We ultimately just had my daughter's meal removed from the bill and decided to move on. Even my puppy's waffles -- which was one of the things we were most excited about -- came out slightly burnt. Overall, the lack of communication, poor follow-through, and disorganized service completely overshadowed what could have been a great experience. This place is interesting because they have essentially three different menus along with a bakery that I believe is open all day with a variety of interesting baked goods. They have a breakfast/brunch menu, a daytime/lunch menu, and an evening menu and you can watch them preparing items in the kitchen. You can either eat inside or outside on the patio, and they have heaters for the cooler days. We came here to get some baked goods mid-afternoon and they still had a good selection. The bear claw was large and tasty with an enjoyable cinnamon flavor and the lemon meringue croissant was unique and enjoyable as I'd never had a croissant with lemon meringue filing. They weren't cheap but they were tasty and enjoyable. I did want to mention they have parking but it's hit or miss on getting a spot since it can get crowded so walking might be easiest if you live nearby. Have come to this bakery a number of times. Overall, the interior is well-decorated and cozy. There are elevated fire pits outside, a real fireplace indoors, large windows, and upstairs seating with couches. The pastries both taste and look good! They cycle through desserts every season and it's fun to stop by and grab a treat. The mocha is decadent, the richest I've found locally with house-made chocolate ganache. As for the food, it's just okay. I've gotten their sandwiches and breakfast bowl, it tasted fine but didn't stand out to me and wasn't worth the price. Main thing that prevents me from visiting more is the internet policy. You only get 1 hr, then you have to pay for internet which is a bit wild to me. There are also only a few outlets so it's really not friendly for studying or working from home. Parking varies. There's a small lot connected that can easily be filled up on busy evenings or weekends. If that's the case there's parking across the street about a block away, but it is a bit of a inconvenience. I was in the area having dinner with some friends, and we decided to stop into Godfrey's Bakery and Cafe afterwards for coffee and desserts. This place is co-located with the Meeting House hotel (https://www.yelp.com/biz/meeting-house-falls-church-2?osq=Meeting+House), so just be aware that parking is extremely limited as both businesses share the small surface lot. As you walk up to Godfrey's, the first thing you notice is the outdoor back patio for outdoor seating. It is quite nice and well appointed; it's more of the formal "sit down" portion of Godfrey's, as opposed to the bakery portion of the restaurant. There is also a small outdoor seating area towards the front of Godfrey's, but the constant traffic along Rt. 7 didn't appeal to us, so we opted to sit indoors. And the interior is quite stunning. Hardwood floors, display racks of breads and baked goods, and plentiful seating (couches and tables) - and a fireplace, which sadly was not lit while we were there. I ordered a matcha latte and it was...fine. Nothing special, just fine. After ordering, you're given a number and the beverage is brought to your table upon completion. The oat milk ($1 upcharge) was creamy enough, but the matcha flavor was too subtle. The foam art leaf was a nice touch. TBH, the drink was tepid, bordering on lukewarm. I made this comment to one of the servers when they were delivering food/drink to the others at the table, and they just remarked, "we prepare all our drinks to a certain temperature. On your next visit, you can ask for it to be 'extra hot.'" Noted. Another detraction is that Godfrey's prides itself on baking all of its items in-house, but my group found those items to be quite average. You pass by the open window kitchen on the way to the restrooms. You can observe staff kneading dough, forming loaves of bread, and other pastries. I forgot to take a pic of my croissant, but it was dry and tasted like it had been sitting out for a while. Granted, this was 6:30pm, so who knows when that item was "really" baked, but I was assured all pastries are "fresh." Nonetheless, we had an enjoyable time chatting and relaxing as we sipped our beverages and nibbled on our small bites. And that's how one should really view Godfrey's: as a cool place to hang out. I also think prices are on the higher side for the quality of the food. My latte and croissant was about $14-ish dollars (with tax and tip). I dunno if I'd return, since there is fierce competition in the bakery/cafe game in NOVA these days. read more

While the price was $25, which felt high initially, when we saw the amount of food, we thought the price was relatively appropriate. Pro tip: there are multiple areas to sit in. The front outside has a good amount of street noise. The back area is large and is a bit quieter. But, people do not "self bus" so you will have to be prepared for the birds that will be around picking through un eaten food left on tables. Lastly, inside is relatively large and has moderate noise based on the group of people inside. Pro tip: the internet is free for the first hour and then $35 an hour after that. Inside, the eggs were a runny mess, and the few slices of partially melted cheese were tasteless. In fact, the only thing that contributed any flavor was the two strips of bacon that were in there with the egg juice. The chai latte was equally unimpressive. It was mostly warmed milk with the barest hint of chai flavoring. As I said up top, this is a great place to sit and chat. That's especially true if you can score a seat on the sofa. Many varieties of coffees and teas for everyone's tastes, then an even tastier variety of brunch fare for everyone. I made a lunch reservation for indoors upstairs the night before. When I arrived they said the room was closed. For us, dining outside in 95 degrees was not an option, even on their lovely patio. The host checked and said since we had a reservation, they would seat us upstairs. We were the only ones in the room which was great for my companion's hearing aids. They couldn't have been more gracious or accommodating and provided prompt service and attention. The food was wonderful. Best avocado toast ever, thanks to their delicious bread and blending feta into the topping - more protein plus a nice salty note. The ham and cheese croissant and iced coffee was also great. We split the pistachio cream dessert, very yummy. We wanted to stay longer to plan a trip and asked if we could hang out for a while, and they were happy to accommodate that too. I normally wouldn't go out of my way to do this, but for people's health and safety I feel obligated. I have been coming to this cafe for a couple years now. I have asked different employees regarding allergens in their pastries and desserts and have been told they do not contain gelatin (excluding the items labeled gelatin). Today, I saw a new pastry and asked if it contained gelatin and since it was new, the employee informed me it wasn't on the list and she would go and ask the chef. I asked to take a picture of the list which she allowed and noted that many of the desserts I have previously been told do not contain gelatin actually do. One of the items was actually labeled gelatin free on the name tag but listed as containing gelatin. This is very dangerous as it is a misrepresented allergen. While the other items didn't explicitly say they were gelatin free, the employees had previously told me they were and some gelatin containing items are labeled as containing it. This would lead anyone to believe that any item not listed as containing gelatin as safe. Additionally, the tiramisu is listed to contain coffee but actually has alcohol in it but not listed in their description, also misleading people. The employee called the manager when I called these items out. He did his best to address my questions however the item labeled as gelatin free that contains gelatin did not have the label removed as a corrective action. This is literally so dangerous, especially when it is actively misleading everyone regarding its safety. This is so disappointing to see from somewhere that is usually full of muslims, jews, and people with this allergy who are unknowingly eating pork gelatin because they are being mislead. See photos attached: Arabica is listed as being gelatin free while the allergen list has it as containing gelatin. Some of the items containing gelatin are listed as containing it while others are not, leading people to believe they are safe. I only received confirmation that everything except the 2 cheesecakes and the tiramisu (tiramisu does have unlisted alcohol) don't contain gelatin after the manager went back and discussed with the chef. He also confirmed it is pork gelatin. read more

Godfrey's is a beautiful establishment with food and drinks that are just okay. I arrived at Godfrey's on a Summer Saturday right after the brunch rush, ~1pm. The place was packed with one open table inside and barely a line to order. Their pastry display was smaller than I expected but everything looked yummy & fresh! The entry walkway was lined with grab-n-go loaves of bread and other larger baked goods. I ordered a Choripan sandwich (sausage & chimichurri sauce), a blueberry lemon pastry, and a caffe mocha (which I ordered later). I waited as they packaged my pastry and tart to-go and then quickly placed my number on the sole empty table as I waited for my sandwich. The place has clean lines and a minimal aesthetic with great lighting. It gives upscale, modern country house vibes. I appreciate the self-serve water station where they have both sparkling (!!) and still on tap. Additional utensils, coffee fixings, and napkins are also available for patrons to help themselves. My sandwich was brought over to my table after 10ish mins and came with a small salad on the side. It was very greasy and oily ehich is to be expected, but it felt like it was missing something. It left much to be desired. The bread was really good! I contemplated buying a loaf to eat later. The blueberry pastry was okay. The texture of the pastry wasn't my preference as I like it flakier, butterier. The lemon custurd and blueberries were fantasic on it. The Yuzu Tart was also good but not great. The shell was quite soggy and the foam on top was... interesting. It didnt really add anything worth mentioning. The caffe mocha was quite good. I would ask for a little less chocolate next time as it became too sweet after 2 sips. The quality of the chocolate was superb and the coffer taste really shined through. Overall, I can see why so many people love Godfrey's but it's not an absolute must for me. Probably closer to 3.5 stars, but unfortunately Yelp doesn't let me. Big fan of Godfrey's before they changed the laptop policy. Definitely on the expensive end of cafes in the area, but everything they sell is superb. They're matchas are actually good (we're talking GRASS GREEN) and their espresso drinks are also well made. Godfrey's really is everything I could've wanted in a cafe. The interior is warm and welcoming and they have tons of comfortable seating both inside and out. Great service. Delicious food. The ambiance is lovely. Large spacious seating inside and out. We had Sunday brunch there and the food was served quickly and everything was fresh and hot. The only thing I'd have to say was that it was a little loud so it made having conversation a little difficult. I had hoped to try the almond croissant that everyone was talking about and unfortunately missed out. They were out so I guess I'll have to make my way back there. Great for small and large groups but I'd encourage a reservation if you're heading there with a large group. I look forward to going back again read more
