I go to the co op very frequently and spend lots of money there. Today, I went in to pickup lunch for my family and ordered two smoothies. The lady working in the kitchen area put both drinks UNCOVERED in an extremely flimsy carrier. When I turned to go finish shopping, both smoothies dropped on the floor from the carrier and exploded everywhere. It got on an employee, an older couple ordering food, my BRAND NEW shoes, my sweatshirt, pants & white socks and stained them all. Not once did any of the 5 employees offer to help or apologize, except one. He says "What kind of smoothies were they" I proceeded to say that I will pass, as I didn't want to wait another 20 minutes for someone to make them for them to spill again. I hope someone from co op sees this and can make things right. read more

Love this place! It's unique. Reminds me of a smaller (yes smaller) and more local Trader Joe's / Whole Foods. I find some gems here but it is select with certain things. I really enjoy coming into the co-op from time to time--it's always fun to explore the aisles and discover unique, high-quality products I can't find elsewhere. The selection is impressive, and I truly value having a store like this in the community. That said, I have to be honest: every time I visit, I can't shake a strange, uninviting vibe. It's subtle, but enough to make me feel a little out of place--almost like if you're not a regular, you're not entirely welcome. It's disappointing, because I want to love shopping here, but the atmosphere sometimes makes me hesitant to come in, even though I still do for certain items I can only find here. I hope this is something that can shift over time, because this store really has so much potential to be not only a great place to shop, but a warm and inclusive one too. read more

My family and I are long time shoppers and love the location. However, since they implemented the new hot bar situation in the last year, our visits have dropped off from several times a week to maybe once a month. The issues both myself, and my wife have are as follows: The buffet style, hot bar self serve is pretty gross. People do not practice good hygiene practices like washing their hands before reaching over, into, and around the food, and touching the utensils. The other issue is that it looks unappetizing and unappealing. The hot bar food used to look wonderful... Now it looks sad, dried, crusty, and abandoned -- every time I am in the store. With the present setup, we would never buy anything from the hot bar unless we were there when you were putting it out fresh for the day. A year ago, we regularly spent $200+ per month on hot bar food and meals. The whole thing is just sad and it actually stops us from visiting the coop an buying other things. We would often drop by just to see what was in the hot bar, and we would make other purchases, even if we didn't order anything from the hot bar. Please go back to the way things were before your self-service style hot bar was implemented-- even if you have to charge a few more bucks for the kitchen staff to handle the food. Thanks read more

Great co-op grocery with beautiful decor and displays, high quality products and a very delicious deli! I'm a fan of co-ops and was not disappointed here! Great vegan sandwiches- I had the beyond sausage melt. (Ask for them to be made vegan, the helpful counter person told me the default hoagie had milk in it. vegan comes on a very yummy ciabatta) Tasty affordable cold brew and yummy vegan frosted cookies!!! Stopped by here for groceries on our way to Badlands, and it was a great decision! They have a huge selection of all kinds of bulk foods, even spices, vanilla extract, local honey and maple syrup, etc. Amazing place for a pair of vegetarian zero-wasters to roll through. And, the staff members were all wearing masks (one incorrectly, but other than that, all great!) and hand sanitizer was provided. Great, responsible grocery with fantastic selection, good quality produce, and even good prices for what they were offering! Wish we could come back to stock up again. read more

What a great little market! We had spent the night in Sioux Falls on our way to the Badlands and stopped here on our way out of town. With a daughter with a dairy allergy this was a perfect fit and we found items for her that we hadnt been able to find in more traditional markets. I was interviewed by a TV station while in the Sioux Falls Food Co-Op. The TV station was asking about the store's new mask policy. I told the TV crew my honest opinion. Then I kept shopping in the store. About 15 minutes later, I made it over to the cheese and hot bar section with a cart full of groceries. While shopping in that corner, I overhead 3 guys behind the hot bar making fun of my interview. "Yeah, she's a scientist... Everyone thinks they are a scientist these days.... Hahaha." (I am actually a PhD scientist / engineer) Their ridicule went on from there. I just couldn't listen anymore, and told them they could at least wait until I exited the store to make fun of me. I explained that they may not agree with my views, but their laughter and words right in front of me were disrespectful. They said "Oh, I didn't realize you were standing there." Then one of the guys apologized. While checking out, I asked to file a complaint. They gave me two email addresses, Patrick and Kimberly. When I was outside loading my car, the TV guy called me back and I told him what had happened. He was shocked because he said the manager / owner was in the store. They gave me email addresses when it turns out the manager was in the store. Then an employee heard me talking to the TV station, ran into the store, and came out with this manager named Patrick. Patrick was one of the three laughing and making fun of me! Patrick comes out and denies that he was laughing or participating in the making-fun session. He blamed it all on his employees and said he wasn't participating. He said he was inside writing them up for their behavior. I asked to see the write-up. He refused to show it to me. Beyond disappointed with the disrespect and dishonesty of the staff at Sioux Falls Food Co-Op. read more

I love grocery stores, and have the Yelp reviews to prove it! My first stop in any community I visit is usually a grocer, and I can never quite feel at home someplace until I have assurances that I know where the good grub can be found. The Dakotah co-op sneaked under my radar over the course of several years of family visits to the midwest. This year, though, we found it! Located just across the parking lot from the best bread baker in town, the co-op is a true bright spot for Sioux Falls. Fantastic selection, good prices, great employees. I'm impressed. Hubs and I had quite the list as we approached the co-op, with items ranging from bulk olive oil to bay leaf; chocolate to yogurt. We happily found all that we were looking for, AND got to taste wine for free while we shopped. As we perused the aisles, we could overhear snippets of other conversations--customers searching for almond butter, probiotics, vitamins, and vino. There seemed to be at least 1 employee for every 2 customers, and more variety of product than I've seen at some places in Oregon. As I made chicken soup for the family later that night, I was super-impressed with the quality and freshness of the co-op ingredients. As soon as the olive oil hit the pan, I was hit with the smell of fresh citrus and juniper. The salad greens held up well in the fridge over the course of our visit, and the snacks were a huge hit with the rest of the family (who think organic food is, "weird."). The only true weakness in selection that I saw was in the meat department but, to be fair, I didn't run my question by an employee to see if there was either another hideout or other ordering options for my carnivorous fancies. In terms of rating, there's no other option for me BUT a five. This co-op is a true community service, and a place that I will visit as an out-of-towner for years to come. read more

I hope this place gets shut down, this has got to be the worst store in SD. The workers are rude and unprofessional. I was visiting from out of town and was aggressively approached by one of the workers while shopping without a face nappy, I was told it was store policy. I explained that their store policy violates federal laws, my civil rights and religion. My legal right to enter, shop and be served at this establishment without covering my face or showing proof of vaccination, is protected by State and Federal Law . The clerk just looked at me stupefied and kept repeating the store mantra policy, I felt like I was talking to a door-nob, I left the shopping cart full of items to make my point that I will not compromise with evil. If you care AT ALL about what you eat, you need to be shopping at the co-op. Whether you have special dietary needs (gluten-free, vegan, etc.), or just want to buy organic and/or local produce, eggs, and meat, the co-op is the place to go. They have anything you could possibly need, and if they don't, they'll gladly order it for you. The staff is cheerful and knowledgeable, and quickly gets to know you by name. Oh, and it doesn't have that terrible patchouli smell of so many natural food stores. It just smells like awesomeness, because that's what it's made of. Clearly. read more

If you "get" CO-OP stores, this one rocks. If you're new to CO-OP stores, then realize you'll be served by people who are more interested in the quality/zen of the products they represent than by achieving some sort of "brand experience." You might be served by someone who's wearing wild earrings or a "free the squirrels" t-shirt. That may not be your taste...but realize that no one works at the CO-OP because it's a 'job.' You might be surprised at the level of expertise, experience and objective knowledge that the staff has. The CO-OP is spotless, well-organized and everything marketed has been intentionally offered for good reason. Start shopping there and you will never look at the big-chain grocery stores in the same light. read more

I've been shopping here for years! both my children use a lot of products from here. I lived in San Francisco for a few years, spent a majority of my shopping at co-ops there, came back here, and I still enjoy the same knowledge and experience I received out west.
