A new boba shop in Ann Arbor, with the owner making and mixing his own syrups for all his concoction? Yes please. We walked in on a rainy Sunday and was immediately greeted by the exceptionally friendly owner. As usual, we went in to try the black milk tea and branched off from there. Classic Black Milk Tea, 16oz, Less Sweet, Almond Milk w/ Boba ($6) - The owner told me that Sip uses a house made brown sugar mix to sweeten their milk teas rather than the typical fructose machine that most boba shops use. He didn't recommend reducing the sweetness, but I figured that it was easier to add more sweetener if I found it to not be sweet enough. Well, at the end of the day, it turns out that whatever ratio he used was just fine, creating a drink that is sweet without overwhelming the almond milk and black tea flavors. The drink overall is well balanced, with a bit of the tea fragrance and astringency coming through. I regret to say that the boba is on the hard side, with very little chew. Drink Rating: 4/5 Boba Rating: 2/5 Ube Milk, 16oz, Oat Milk ($6.25) - I went back to order a second drink after savoring the flavors of the first. The Ube Milk has a fantastically rich ube flavor which is fragrant, earthy, and delicious. The owner mentioned that he takes ube concentrate and infuses it with his house-made simple syrup. The ratio is perfect, so that the sweetness is an undercurrent to the drink and the ube flavor is front and center. (4/5) It is interesting to note that the cups have the sippy lid design, which are not normally used to accommodate the boba straw and is a departure from other boba places. While I wouldn't return to get boba as topping, I would try their other drinks. The offerings here are high quality and thoughtfully composed. Bathrooms - Single unisex room in the back. Overall rating of the drinks this visit: 3.5/5

Sip has very quickly become a frequent go to! The shop has a cute minimal, but welcoming vibe and it's pretty spacious. The owner is super friendly and customer service is always great! The quality and flavor of their tea is impressive! I've gotten the plain iced jasmine tea and it was delicious. They make their own syrups and they always feel well balanced with the tea and milk. I do usually ask for half or less sweetness and that is perfect. Everything seems super customizable so you can't go wrong! The boba's texture was also perfect! I tend to like more classic milk tea drinks so I haven't ventured into their more creative menu items yet. I did try the supermoon milk my partner got and it was really good! Definitely a welcome addition to the growing boba-landscape in Ann Arbor!

They have a lot of different drinks here -- I like that you can customize or choose from their premium drinks. The inside is pretty big and was great for chatting with friends. Our drinks were brought out pretty fast too. Super nice place!

Honestly, I was a bit overwhelmed when I came in. There's a tea bar area, the loose leaf tea wall, pastries and other desserts, swag, a tasting area, and apparently it was trivia night tonight. I experienced all of this in just the first minute or two of entering. And it was packed! I really appreciate the time taken to explain the shop to me and walk me through many of the teas. Although they were busy, I didn't feel rushed (there were 2-3 people working the registers) and it felt very personal chatting. I was able to smell a bunch, and could really tell the differences in them. I ended up getting 3 50g bags and 2 sample bags, plus some stickers and pins. Really excited to try these out. They are selling really cute tea ornaments and they have other things like tea pots and cards with funny phrases like "It was you Oolong." They don't have a physical menu because the flavors constantly change. You can look online but for the most part, have to stand behind the counter in diff areas to see alll the flavors! I spotted Almond Milk Tea and she let me smell it and I was sold! It smelled wonderful! When it was actually brewed, it was ok though. It doesn't really have milk in it either :0p My MIL got the Hisbiscus (a tad too sour) and my husband got the Japanese Cherry green tea (that was good and has a mild flavor if you like that sort of thing). They have signs on the table that there is no Wifi because they encourage unplugged conversations and connections.

The case of macarons was beautiful , multicolored rows of well labelled flavors. We each made some selections and ordered some drinks. Our hosts ordered a large French press pot to share. I had time to speak with staff about the last k of space for baking and how they arrived at so many flavors. They do not bake onsite but receive frozen shipments from the main bakery in Grand Rapids as handiest the Holland, Michigan store. They defrost enough each for each day so they never run out of flavors. They were some of best I have ever had. Nothing like what you might find in the bakery section of a grocer. This is an historic residential building retrofit with a nice conversion to retail without losing its charming brickwork. I will definitely return when next in Ann Arbor.

It's so appealing. The macarons displayed in the case were equally appealing. I don't recall all the flavors, but I had a tough time picking out flavors for my friend and, of course, something for me. I chose three macarons to enjoy at the shop: blueberry, coconut, and strawberry cheesecake. I liked the delicate crack of the macaron shells and the creamy, flavorful centers. Each sported a design to distinguish itself from the others further. I also had a piping hot Earl Gray tea along with these treats. Espresso, French and Italian sodas, and lattes are also available. Customers stopped in throughout my visit for a quick purchase or to savor their macarons at nearby tables. Service was disappointing.

I'm also confused by the macaron flavors, as they aren't tea-inspired. I would go to TeaHaus over this extension, as their tea is good and they have seating. Gelato - very dense and milky. A medium (2 scoops) is $4. I tried the strawberry green tea and an earl gray with lavender shortbread, and both mostly just tasted like milk - the flavors are accurate, but they're very weak and difficult to detect. The caramel and black tea with sea salt had a mild caramel taste but no salt. They do offer samples. Macarons ($2.25 each) - flavors are good but shells need work. They're really big (about 2.5" in diameter), and the rotating flavors are often fun and creative. Le Bon Macaron has better shell quality, but the flavors here are better. Compared to when I first tried them 3 or 4 years ago the macarons have improved, but out of the ones I tried recently only one (chocolate malt in July) was decent. Quality is really hit or miss depending on the batch you happen to get. -raspberry key lime (August) - really sugary with a weak lime flavor -bubblegum (July) - tasted very much like bubblegum but the shells were very crunchy and overbaked, and there were huge air pockets -superman (July) - too chewy and soft -brown butter pecan (July) - good flavor but shells were dry and too crunchy, and the buttercream was very stiff and buttery

Most recently I came here for a meeting, ordering a vanilla latte and a sweet potato hand pie to nibble on since I hadn't eaten yet. The description of the latter sounded so good, sweet potatoes with black beans and a few other veggies, wrapped up in flaky pie dough. The filling, however, was mostly pureed, giving it more of a baby food consistency which I didn't love. The flavor was good though but I couldn't get over the mushy texture. The black beans weren't pureed in but were few and far between (I think I maybe counted 2 or 3?). In addition to my hand pie I also ordered a piece of the billionaire's shortbread but they didn't ring it up/prepare it. By the time I realized it (I had to wait for my hand pie to be heated up) it was only a few minutes before close so I didn't bother going back up to the counter to reorder. IDK if they were just in a hurry to close or genuinely didn't hear my order but it was a bummer since it did look great. The vanilla latte, however, was quite good. And for a coffee shop that's most important. And what they lacked in substantial food options they did make up for in fun, seasonal drink specials and a few sweet treats like cookies and the aforementioned shortbread. The space is very cute, as well, and made for a really comfortable meeting location. So overall I did like my visit here. I just won't be rushing back here if I'm feeling peckish. But for a caffeinated pick me up and a nice place to meet or chill, this definitely fits the bill.

They do that thing where they just yell out the name of the drink rather than taking your name, but I loved everything else about this place. The cardamom fig latte was unique and definitely tasted of both cardamom and fig. They have bagels and some pastries.
