If you want your shower to be WORSE than when they started. by all means use these guys…read more We have a less than 2 year old home and have been unhappy with the grout in one of the showers since new. We hired The Grout Doctor to remove and re-grout our tub surround and remove and re-caulk the tub to tile intersection. In the process Matt (the owner) showed his new worker how to use a Dremel type tool to remove the grout from the joints. It was clear that he used our shower to train a new worker, which is totally fine if you supervise, fix the work and complete the job in a professional manner. While his apprentice was grinding out the grout, he chipped 9 tiles! At the time The Grout Doctor showed us 2 tiles that were severely chipped but did NOT point out the other ones where the edges of the tiles have been ground down. Matt said that he would replace those tiles. Additionally, after the new grout cured the discoloration was worse than when we started. When his worker came back to fix the problems and replace the chipped tiles, he saw the extent of the damage. He promptly left and said this was a bigger job and would have to reschedule. That is the last time we have seen them here. The owner now refuses to come look at the problem and has now told us it is our problem because there must be something wrong with the walls. He needed to call that out at the beginning if he was concerned, which I highly doubt is the case as there is no mold anywhere and no smell. So, a small job is now a $5000 job that we have to pay for!!!!!!!! On top of it, he never called and just sent a text after a week of ignoring my texts to get the work scheduled. My husband then tried to reach him by phone, got his wife, and she essentially said since its so many tiles to replace the integrity of the whole wall is at stake thus we just aren't going to do anything about it it's your problem now you should replace the whole shower and said "good luck with your project" and hung up on him. I am still in shock over this...mistakes happen but reputable companies make good on their promise, problem solve and don't stand behind a "we are not responsible for any damages" clause. I guess they can just come trash the house and they aren't responsible?!?!?!?!

Matt redid the grout in my parent's kitchen on two counters at their house in Manchaca. Worst yet is that if we get the grout wet and rub it with a rag, it starts coming out like wet chalk. My parents called Matt Haeffner, and he said the grout should have sealed itself, and suggested that my parents get sealer from Lowes and apply it ourselves. They've called him again, left a message asking that he come back out and see the problem with the grout he installed, and they're waiting for a call back from him. He is a very pleasant guy and did some things well (sealing the walls of our walk in shower). However, the quality control on the two baths/showers was poor. His mom was having issues, and perhaps he was in a hurry. But we shortly began to notice a lot of overpainting. And, now, a couple of months later, as we began to scrape the overpainting off the shower wall tiles with plastic cards, we noticed even more overpainting and a number of grout lines that had major portions with no sealer and a bunch of smaller areas that had gaps. We used leftover sealer to fill in all the gaps he missed. Also, the caulking around the tubs was, simply put, sloppy. Maybe it was due to his having to travel to see his mom in El Paso. Nevertheless, my recommendation for anyone who uses him is to do your own careful quality control checks while he's there. This is not meant to 'dis' him, but to help him succeed.

July 2020: I hired him to clean and seal grout in the master bathroom shower of 3yrd old house I bought. The shower by the way was still in great shape. I just wanted a good cleaning done, and filling of couple of very small spots. I also asked him if he can seal the grout and he said he will and claimed a 15yr guarantee on the grout seal. August 2021: Within a year the shower looks way worse than it did after 3 yrs of ownership. Whatever he used as a sealant seems to have served the exact opposite purpose. I reached out to him with pictures and initially he feigned ignorance of even having worked at my house. And when I finally located and shared the receipt copy with him, he said the earliest he can send someone over to take a look is by December 6th!! Also, when I mentioned the 15 year guarantee on the sealant, he said he will check with the sealant manufacturer!! What the hell? Giovanni it was you who claimed the guarantee when you spoke to me face to face, not the manufacturer! Nor is that mentioned anywhere in the receipt! January 2022: December came and went by, it is January and I'm still texting him, calling him(he won't answer), leaving him voicemail(he won't call back). For all the reviewers who gave him 5 stars, just wait a year...see what happens. I'll pray you don't have to reach out to him for any of his "guarantee" claims. This is my worst experience with any kind of contractor ever.

Sorry this is so long, but this has been going on for 6 months now…read more I hired Andrew to refinish my claw foot tub. He was very friendly and when the job was done let me know if there were any problems to please contact him and he would take care of them. Unfortunately there is over-spray on all of the tile on the walls from about waist down. It looks like that overspray settled in the tub and left the finish in the tub rough as well-like almost sandpaper rough. The tub was refinished in April. Andrew came back at the end of May once when I was not there(door has a code to let contractors in) and said he "removed the nibs and touched up around the drain". The pictures below are after that. Still rough and overspray on the walls. The tub will need to be moved around to get to all the walls and clean the overspray, so I have it on a flat dolly on wheels to make it easy. He said he needs the tub hooked up to water and a drain to wet sand the tub. I told him I can do that in a few minutes, soon as the overspray is cleaned off of the walls. Lot's of phone calls and text messages later he did agree to come out again on September 3rd, but never showed up. He won't answer the phone, return my messages or respond to text messages. The tub is still very rough and will be a nightmare to clean if it's left like this, along with no so comfortable to sit in. The overspray on the walls is heavy, and will not wipe off. There is a small spot I scraped it off with a putty knife in the pictures below. With a buffer and 3m scrub pad I cleaned 1 tile, which took about 2 minutes. 3 tiles per sq foot, about 18 feet of wall, 3 feet high. That's 3 hours or more of buffing and scrubbing. I shouldn't have to do that. I've been very patient, and all I want is Andrew to fix this. I understand sometimes things go wrong. Just honor your word and fix your work. I'm now looking at having to hire another contractor to come fix this. I would still give Andrew a chance if he was willing but he won't communicate with me. This is now holding us up from moving into the house. The plumbers can't come out to install everything until this is resolved. Good luck if you use him and have a problem. He's not going to put any real effort into fixing it.
