Sunday breakfast at the Great Karoo Marketplace…read more Went for a TPS conference held at the Kalahari Resort. Sunday breakfast at the marketplace was easy to find. No wait at 7:30 AM. The restaurant is on the first floor, almost directly below the check in desk in the lobby. Take the elevator or stairs down a level to access the breakfast buffet. Since the buffet gets busy on the weekends, they will escort you to a table. We sat with a colleague and friend who presented the most amazing lectures at the conference. The buffet itself has a lot of classic and kid friendly foods. So many stations. Cereals. Cut up fruits. Pastries and muffins. Corn. Wedge potatoes. Omelettes. The cook at the Bennie station was so nice. When I asked for a Bennie with no meat, she suggested that I grab some smoked salmon from another station to make a salmon Benedict. My favorite...and what I was planning to do once she gave me my meatless Benedict. So thoughtful. Other yummy options at the buffet included the bread pudding and the cheese grits. So many carbs!! The station with smoothies and fruit juices was a very good option. The pinacolada smoothies and the green juice blends were so yummy. Although I didn't use it, the hot sauce bar was so interesting. So many hot sauces. From mild to hot, hot, hot. Check out the Scoville Scale to gauge if you can handle the heat. Along with pancakes, waffles, scrambled eggs, back , chicken sausage, and much more. It's definitely worth it if you can eat enough to stay full for a day of fun! There can be a rush of people/wait if you go after 9am. We went early one day at 8am and it was empty, so plan accordingly.

Got there right on time, but it seemed they hadn't even started my order yet. As I waited, I was left confused by the interior. The place was completely empty except for one person working the register. There were also employees going back-and-forth yelling at one another pretty regularly. I don't know how they would expect anyone to want to dine in with that atmosphere. I finally received my to go order and made the trek home. There I realized there was no rice for our entrees. I called to see if we could get a partial refund due to the error. They argued with me for 5 minutes - not claiming that they gave me rice, but that it shouldn't matter and that I shouldn't get a refund. Then they said they'd have to ask the manager. They set the phone down and had me listening to yelling for a while. No refund, no accountability. On top of this experience, the food was not great. I won't pretend it was terrible, but nothing special and certainly not worth the experience and errors in putting an order together. The lo mein was bland and a bit dry. The lettuce wraps lacked flavor though the lettuce was fresh. The hot and sour soup also wasn't as flavorful as expected and did not have any heat to it. Ribs were decent, but wings dry and overcooked. I am shocked by the response to what seems like a reasonable request. I paid for something I didn't get and felt I should've gotten a partial refund. During the conversation, I asked if they were interested in trying to retain me as a customer and they weren't. That's fine. Plenty of other places in the area to take my business.

Our hibachi chef, Fernando, was absolutely amazing--funny, entertaining, and genuinely attentive throughout the meal. He had us laughing the entire time, and the food was delicious. The restaurant was also very clean, from the dining area to the tables, plates, and overall presentation. You can tell they take pride in maintaining a welcoming environment. I highly recommend this place, but if you're lucky enough to get Fernando as your chef, it takes the experience from 80% to 100%!

This spot has a very homey vibe and perfect for a Sunday seafood outing alone or with a friend. I wish I had three pieces of fish instead of just two pieces. Next time, I'll order a third piece.
