It's been decades since I've set foot in this place. After you pull into the steep and potholed gravel parking lot, you can step back in time to a building filled with old relics which adds to the charm. I did read through several reviews before coming here, but nobody mentioned that they have absolutely no craft beer or wine, just the usual domestic offerings. Not even Shiner! We started with the sampler platter appetizer which was underwhelming and small. The hush puppies were clearly previously frozen out of a bag and of ver poor quality, skip those nasty nuggets. After 5 PM, you can get the baked potato, but I would definitely skip their salad out of the bag. For the main course, I got shrimp and fish and the wife got hers baked not fried. The beans and slaw were ....meh, fries were ok. I hate to say it, but there's a lot of yelpers slapping down five stars on what is just 2 to 3 star grub. Part of the ambience here is dining on styrofoam plates and cups with a roll of paper towels at the ready. The service was friendly and attentive. The catfish actually wasn't too bad and it was the highlight of the meal, which isn't saying much. For the money, this place is a pass for us. So if you're looking to sit down to some great quality seafood, I would suggest looking elsewhere. If you have little to no expectations and like the vibe, this place is for you. And if this place is for you, they do have some dining areas set aside for private parties, although you may wish to avoid using the bathrooms, especially the women's. When you finally pay the bill with a credit card, you will be charged an additional 3.25%. I used cash. Nine photos included to help you decide. 21/2-3*

Review of Springhill Restaurant in Pflugerville Nestled in the heart of Pflugerville, Springhill Restaurant is a hidden gem offering a delightful selection of Southern comfort food classics. Their catfish fillets and fried shrimp steal the show, expertly fried to a crisp perfection and seasoned to tantalize the taste buds. Accompanied by homemade pinto beans, fries, and hush puppies, each dish adds its own unique flair to the dining experience. The homemade pinto beans are a standout feature, boasting rich flavor and a comforting texture that rivals even the best homemade recipes. Similarly, the hush puppies are a hit, with a perfect balance of crispy exterior and soft, flavorful interior. While my husband encountered a slightly burnt batch on one occasion, a second try confirmed their deliciousness, showcasing consistency in quality. In addition to the main dishes, Springhill impresses with its slaw, offering a refreshing accompaniment that complements the hearty flavors of the meal. However, during peak hours, the staff may appear slightly overwhelmed with pick-up orders, but their positive attitude prevails, ensuring a pleasant dining experience overall. The ambiance at Springhill is charming, with antique items adorning the walls and creating a cozy atmosphere that transports diners to a bygone era. Moreover, the cleanliness of the establishment is commendable, providing a welcoming environment for patrons. In summary, Springhill Restaurant offers a memorable dining experience with its delicious Southern fare and nostalgic ambiance. Despite minor inconsistencies, it remains a top choice for those seeking a taste of authentic Southern hospitality since its establishment in '85. O and you definitely get a sufficient amount of food!

If you are looking for fried comfort food, this is your place. The moment you step inside, you are greeted by relics from the past and good ol' southern hospitality. We went for dinner and it hit the spot for us. Hushpuppies, garden salad, chicken fried steak, baked potato and peach cobbler ala mode and the portion size is large enough that we shared all of this between two people. It's local and home style food. Give it a try!

As a lover of buffets and catfish, I was excited to come try this spot out. It's a very country style, more southern than western type of restaurant. They've got all the foods associated with the south like fried catfish, hush puppies, boiled green beans, carrots, mashed potatoes, and even fried gizzards! I love this type of food and having a buffet of it really satisfied my cravings. Lunch buffet is from 11-2 and costs about $16 with a water and $18 with a fountain drink. I would come again since I like it but I would point out that I love Golden Corral too and they have all the same dishes plus more there for a better price at lunch. But it's worth coming here for a slice of something different.

The selection was extensive, so by the time we finished with the delicious steam table offerings, there was no room left to try the cook-to-order Mongolian Grill. That will be first on our next visit. We were already full when we accidentally found the sushi bar, so couldn't try much. Look for it. Our service needs were limited, but everybody was pleasant, and we appreciated that the finished plates were promptly removed. When asked for a cup to take the remaining soda with us, we were brought a fresh, filled cup instead. It's a bit out of the way for us, but will definitely be returning soon.

China E Buffet, Round Rock Where Quantity Steamrolls Quality…read more Opa used to recommend China E Buffet the way a proud grandfather shows off wallet-photos: "Look at all those choices, and something for everyone!" Sadly, our visit on Saturday, July 19, proved that even the biggest buffet can shrink in stature when the dishes lose their character. We walked in expecting the familiar clatter of plates and that comforting aroma of sizzling woks. Instead, we were greeted by staff who responded to a cheerful "Good morning!" with the enthusiasm of wax statues. If their smiles had been any tighter, they'd have cracked. Speaking of plates, yes, they were clean, but they glistened with leftover rinse water. Nothing says "Welcome, friend!" quite like the fear of cross-contamination before you even reach the Kung Pao. Once at the steam tables, Opa faced three varieties of chicken, honey, Kung Pao, and "spicy". Hmmm, this was tasting so alike he began to suspect a practical joke. Imagine three identical cousins arguing over who's the most interesting. Pleasant enough, but after a few bites you'd prefer just one cousin with a real personality. The beef with broccoli at least looked distinctive, but the broccoli had been stewed into the texture of soggy something. One bite transported Opa to his childhood in the Netherlands, where well-meaning mothers would lovingly overcook vegetables on Saturday night, leave them warming all through Sunday service, and serve them mashed beyond recognition just in time for lunch. Nostalgia shouldn't arrive disguised as baby food. Flavor shortcuts showed up later, too. Halfway home all three passengers in our car experienced that unmistakable abdominal chorus line an MSG tango, if you will. (Next time we'll bring castanets so the cramps can keep rhythm.) Still, children remain blissfully immune to nuance. Ours were delighted by the deep fried selection, golden, crispy, and unapologetically kid-proof. And credit where it's due, the buffet's breadth of choice remains impressive. If you measure value in linear feet of steam table, China E keeps its crown. But a restaurant's reputation isn't built on cubic yards of chafing dishes. It's built on flavor, freshness, and a smile that tells you your presence matters. Until those return, Opa's enthusiasm will remain parked in the lot outside. I'm begrudgingly leaving three stars for sheer variety and the kids' fried food joy, though my taste buds whisper "TWO." Here's hoping the management remembers that quantity should never be an excuse to drown quality, and that a simple "thank you" is cheaper than any bottle of sauce.

The cumin seeds give it that signature earthy, aromatic flavor and you get a slight tingly numbing spice sensation from the chilis and peppercorn. The lamb is not overly gamey, but it still does taste like lamb so if you are not really a lamb fan, I'd choose something else. - Jumping Fish: A very popular dish! Tender white fish fillets that is so soft it melts in your mouth. It is in a flavorful oil and broth that is refreshing from the fresh jalapenos. It is a savory dish, yet still relatively mild. It commes with napa cabbage as well! This was my favorite dish and I loved the flavor combined with the white rice. - Mapo Tofu (Vegetarian): They have one with pork as well, but I got the vegetarian version. Silky soft tofu cubes in that signature mapo tofu sauce and numbing peppercorns. Despite the appearance of all the dishes, none of them were very spicy. Overall, a comforting soft, spicy, savory dish with a slight tingle. - Eggplant in garlic sauce: A deliciously sweet and umami garlic sauce. The eggplants could have been a bit more cooked through in my opinion though since it was still quite firm. I loved it still! Note that all the dishes to me were not spicy just had an underlying subtle spice or tingle (like a finishing flavor note if you will). Also, since it is sichuan the dishes are on the oilier side. You order with the cashier at the front and pay up front as well. Food comes out quickly. It is a small space with three rows of tables (maybe around 12-15 tables give or take), so it does fill up fast. I went at around 5:40 PM on a Thursday and there was no wait, but by the time we finished eating at around 7PM, the restaurant was full.
