The catfish and fried items weren't greasy, rancid, or carrying that old-oil taste that ruins a meal. For a place centered around fried food, that's important. Beyond that, the experience was pretty underwhelming. The food was bland and forgettable, cafeteria-quality at best. The salad bar was sparse with limited choices, and nearly everything being served on Styrofoam makes the entire place feel cheap and dated. Service was adequate but nothing memorable. Nobody was rude, but there wasn't much attention to detail or hospitality either. What really stood out was the condition of the facility. The restroom looked neglected, and the sink was partially detached from the wall. When customers see maintenance issues that obvious, it raises questions about the overall upkeep of the restaurant. I don't expect fine dining from a catfish buffet, but I do expect decent food, a clean facility, and some pride in presentation. Our server was sweet, she was happy to help and attentive. After ordering my daughter had to use the bathroom, "OH MY HEAVENS, what is that smell?" She said. It's been decades since I've set foot in this place. After you pull into the steep and potholed gravel parking lot, you can step back in time to a building filled with old relics which adds to the charm. The beans and slaw were ....meh, fries were ok. I hate to say it, but there's a lot of yelpers slapping down five stars on what is just 2 to 3 star grub. Part of the ambience here is dining on styrofoam plates and cups with a roll of paper towels at the ready. The service was friendly and attentive. The catfish actually wasn't too bad and it was the highlight of the meal, which isn't saying much. For the money, this place is a pass for us. So if you're looking to sit down to some great quality seafood, I would suggest looking elsewhere. If you have little to no expectations and like the vibe, this place is for you. Decide to stop in and do a takeout order after work. Put my order in and waited 20 minutes for it to finish. Took three people to take the order and to bring it to me. When I got home, I realized they overcharged me by three dollars on my meal. I called them and asked them what this was about and they said it's a takeout fee. So basically you drive there use your own gas your own vehicle and you put the order in and then you wait to take it home with you and there's no table service and they still hit you with a three dollar fee. They were too small to reach up and get items so they were reaching as far as they could to get food. Dragging their arms across and scooping up what they could. No hidden fees please! I have ordered take out from this restaurant a couple times. Both times I ordered a 3 piece catfish with fries. The wait was fairly average, about 20 mins. The fries were cold BOTH times. I thought it was a fluke the first time but when I received the order the second time, it was the same. They were skimpy with the tarter sauce. Given the size of the fillets one would assume you would ATLEAST get two sauces. Ultimately the food was decent however, what perturbed me was the "to go charge" that is not openly communicated. I noticed it in the difference in price when I checked out. The first time I did the math in my head and realized I couldn't have gotten to that amount unless the actual price of the dish was incorrect. NOPE, when I ordered the second time and received the check, I asked why there was a price difference. The young girl didn't know so I asked her if there is a charge for "to go" orders. She eventually said yes. I was diligent in looking all over the menu, at the "to go" order station, web site and anywhere else it could be posted but nothing. I'm sad to say that Springhill isn't what it used to be. The fried catfish used to be nice and flaky, but over the last couple of years I have often found it to be very mushy. I take this to mean that they are microwaving the leftovers from the lunch buffet to serve for dinner. If it's not that, it means it's undercooked.
