If you are looking to let out a little steam after a long day or week, this is a decent place to go. $1 drafts after work and fun scene. I always end up drinking way more than I planned on when I come here so I don't know if that's a good or a bad thing. The downstairs is kind of small and it's awkward to stand in most places. The upstairs can be fun for dancing, if you're in the hip hop mood. The food isn't that great, so I wouldn't come for that. read more

Sissy K's is definitely a must stop for the 25 and under crowd with its dive bar appeal and cheap beer specials. The dollar drafts aren't the best quality but they will do the trick in making you lose all inhibitions and have a good time. This bar is great for drinking all night, and then still having enough money to afford a cab home, plus you will still have enough left for a bottle of advil to cure the next day hangover and headache that is guaranteed. read more

Not a fan of this place. The bartender took my order and then took her sweet time making it. She went over and hung out with the coat check girl for awhile before she made my drink. When I didn't leave her a tip for the drink, she insulted me and then lunged across the bar to try and take it back. The coat check girl wouldn't fork over my coat until I forked over some extra cash. The last time I checked a tip is something you earn...and when is the last time a bartender tried to steal your drink! read more

I don't understand why this place has so few stars. It is a hole in the wall dive-y bar. That is what it is supposed to be and that is what it is, but, it is better than just your average dive-y bar. I was told, I was not allowed in this bar and Wild Rover, due to an Article i wrote on Yelp, from the Night Manager. This is my first time ever on Yelp. I explained to the Manager that you have the wrong person. He said I was there on the Mayweather fight, which was August 26th. I told him I was not, that I was in Thailand at that time. Next week i went there with my passport and showed the day Manager, that I left the country on August 22nd and returned August 31st, he said he will look into it, and call or text me, so far no call or text. I went there last night to see if they resolved the issue, nobody even has looked into it , nor do they even care about accusing me of something that I never did. I have decided never to go there again, after 20 years of going there and never an issue, I could not even get the respect of a civil conversation, to resolve the problem, I am disappointed in the management of this issue, and its sad that Managers can simple bar you for no reason, especially accusing me of something I never did. Maybe the person who had the issue the night of the Mayweather fight, will read this, if so maybe this will give you a laugh, even whatever you wrote, that is your wright, and you should not be barred either. read more

Came here after a comedy show on a Wednesday night after the Sox had won. The place was busy but awesome. We shared a table with some guys and did karaoke and hung out. Draft beer was $1.00 which is probably why we ended up missing our ride home. Later in the evening we found out that they have a dance floor upstairs. They played some good music and it was a nice balance for all my friends who wanted to dance and those who wanted to relax. No cover charge...maybe on weekends but not on Wednesdays. all in all, a great place! read more

honestly, this place can get you piss drunk enough that you think overcrowding and disgusting bathrooms are okay. it's cheap to get in and cheap to stay. it's close to pretty much every MBTA option available so it's okay to buy two too many cheapie drinks. the music downstairs is always really good and, when you're shitfaced, the music upstairs is always really good, too. like i said, it gets super crowded here on a weekend night but you never wait super long for a drink. always a pretty good time. read more

So I was here on Wednesday, July 25th, along with my Nikon D810 with 50mm f/1.4G lens, a setup worth in excess of $3000... I had my backpack with me as well, not as important, but a bag I had had since my time in the Marines, so it had nostalgia to me... So I'm at the main bar downstairs most the time, ordering Bud Light drafts from Samantha... eventually a different girl came in and I was ordering the same from her as well... eventually I ventured upstairs, cut up the rug, sang some karaoke, it was an enjoyable evening mostly... I consumed far more beverages than I should have, and eventually I get asked to leave... I wasn't causing issues, nor was I engaging in any activities that might have been frowned upon by such an establishment, but I made my exit, no questions asked... one of the employees had brought my camera to me from upstairs, I paid my tab, and don't ever recall leaving with my camera and backpack... from the moment I left, to the moment I get woken up (from a Boston Police Sgt and ambulance staff), on a bench in Mckinley Sq, everything is a complete blur, almost as if it didn't happen... when I got woken up around 3am, my belongings were nowhere to be found... two things could have happened... one, I could have accidentally left my belongings within the confines of Sissy Ks and some scumbag made off with 'em, or two, I had 'em with me and some scumbag thief stole 'em when I was out of it... So I returned to Sissy Ks at 11:30 Thursday morning, hopeful my items had been found and put aside... unfortunately they had not, and when I spoke with the GM, asking if there's surveillance footage I can review, I was met with "our cameras don't actually record"... well that sucks! So what happens if someone else is over-served, eventually leaves and gets hit and killed by a car? well, since there's no record of it I guess it never happened... I'm not expecting the bartenders to be babysitting, but they should know to shut someone off if they believe that individual has had too much to drink, perhaps even offer to call an uber or lyft if they feel that person might get hurt (or robbed) from the intoxicated state they are in... what happens if a girl gets sexually assaulted within Sissy Ks? again, I guess it never happened... I plan on filing a police report with the Boston Police the next time I can make it into the city... I am a single dad, a Marine Corps OEF veteran, a Boston native, and some lowlife has the audacity to steal one of the few things I own... I can't believe what this world is coming to : / read more

I had the worst experience out at a bar in my life attending sissy k's last night. People working at the door either don't know what they are doing or they are just jerks. I arrived there for my girlfriends birthday party around 9 and we were have $1.50 drafts and it was all good. Live music was good, the waitresses came right to me and asked for my order. Unfortunately, I am a smoker and around 11pm things were picking up and I went out for a smoke. Like most bars they stamped my hand letting them know I am going out momentarily and coming right back in. The first time everything was fine and I went back in to enjoy my time with my friends. At midnight I went out for a cigarette and they would not let me back in after and told me I had to go wait in a massive line stretching down the street. This is while my tab is still open in their bar. The obnoxious, smart-ass manager of the bar told me to piss off when I explained that I was there for my girlfriends birthday party and that they were all still in the bar waiting for me to come back in. Ultimately, I had one of the door guys go in and close my tab for me. They didn't get tipped and I will NEVER GO BACK TO $#!TTY SISSY K'S! read more

This place is a total hole in the wall but in the best way. It's perfect for a sloppy night out. The downstairs is the main bar with plenty of seating and upstairs is a sticky dance floor as well as another bar. I went with my girlfriends and had a great time. It attracts a young, college aged crowd but it was a pretty good time. Decently priced drinks. I didn't try the food but the drinks were pretty good. read more

There is a lot that I can say about Sissy K's, but I will keep it simple. Sissy K's is an awesome place to eat and drink, and the prices will not break the bank. The bartenders and servers are very beautiful, friendly and outgoing; therefore, their customer services is what keeps me and my friends going back for more. There is Karaoke 7 nights a week, and karaoke contest 2 nights out of the week. There is an upstairs bar and dancehall, with a DJ, that spins all the hot and current music tunes. The security staff check all ID's for compliance, and keeps all trouble makers out; therefore, the place is relatively safe and guaranteed for a good time. Lastly, Sissy K's is a place where you can easily socialize and meet new people. read more

So I went to this place for my friends 21st bday. When we got there we immediately went upstairs to the dance floor. DJ was awesome, he played every song I requested & tons of dance music. I went here yesterday with my boyfriend for lunch. We have never been here before so we asked our waitress what she recommended. She was very helpful and suggested the crab cakes and lobster roll. Good crowd, good time. Energetic and friendly staff....very creative. Ask for the "Surfer on Acid" shot...delicious, fun and gets ya tipsy! This place is entirely way too small for all of the big fuss that it makes. The dollar draft special usually runs out within the first two hours and the downstairs is too crowded. I went there once about a year ago - not a fun experience. I agree with another reviewer - The place did smell horrible, almost like sewage. It was crowded and the tables downstairs are entirely too big, and there is hardly room to sit at them because they are so close together. I ordered a margarita and the bartender said they would be right back and they didnt reapper for about 10 minutes...Upstairs was grody...maybe if I wanted to get felt up I would have enjoyed it more. read more

Don't listen to the nay sayers. I ended up in here after ducking from a cop who smelled my weed. I hung out a few hours and found the crowd young and inspiring and the bar tenders hot and chatty. Of course being on a business/vacation trip I had the camera and an expense account, so everyone was my friend. The two chicks whose apartment I wound up at were especially friendly. Sissy K's or by it's proper name, Sissy Kelly's is quite possibly one the most consistent bars in Boston that one can frequent any night of the week. The Karaoke, held 5 nights a week is bar none the best in the entire Commonwealth, putting all competitors to shame. The atmosphere of a neighborhood bar, mixed with a trendy college scene gives a laid back environment that is hard to find. The Karaoke DJ runs one of the most organized, efficient services I have ever seen. His witty banter between singers accent the evening and the catalog of song is large enough to break a small mule's spine. The karaoke definitely makes the bar as good as it is. This said, although you are always bound to find a good time there, the upstairs leaves much to be desired. A club environment playing music that Not many enjoy and becomes monotonous. In the end this place has everything you want. read more

I visited this establishment 2 Saturdays ago (08/16) and was ROBBED by the bartender. I came here with my 2 brothers for a night out. Before we entered, I withdrew $100 from the nearby BoA atm. Upon entry I paid for my brother and I's cover $10 EACH. So I had $ 80 left. I proceeded to the first floor bar, ordered a Budweiser from a bartender named Christine (as later identified by her coworker). "$4.50", she announced as she handed me the beer. I handed her one of my $20, ONLY bills in my wallet. She proceeded to her cash register which was a fair distance and out of sight from where I was standing ....... about 15 feet away. And after what seemed like eternity to me she walked back slapped some change on the counter and vanished out of sight. I counted it, it was only $5.50! WTF. I quickly caught up to her and asked to get the rest of what I was owed. In a very rude tone she barked at me that I had only handed her a $10 bill and then walked away despite my continued protests. I immediately realized that I needed higher authority intervention. I was directed to the manager on duty (Mike) who was right outside the building by another employee along with the name of culprit who had just cheated me. I proceeded to the exit to find Mike. The bouncer obviously wouldn't let me exit with my beer however he agreed to keep an eye on it at a table near where he was standing. After explaining my situation to Mike, who was more reasonable than the crooked bartender, he walked me back into building and handed me a $10 bill from the register. Finally, this nightmare is over, so I thought. When I went back to bouncer to retrieve my drink, he was like " umm ......... I stepped away for a sec and when I got back it was gone" ughhh!!!! At this point I was so DISGUSTED with this place that I immediately gathered my party and headed for the exit. We had only been there for no more than 18 minutes, however there was no way I was going to spend a second more there. When I really thought about it though, it all started with a crooked employee. My only piece of advice to anybody thinking of visiting this establishment and purchasing drinks with cash, have a plenty of eye witnesses on the cash handed to the bartenders. I don't believe the organization as a whole is in on it, I just think they have at the very least 1 bad apple, the individual that I deal with. Either she is incompetent or just a thief, idk but my feeling is, its the latter. read more

Imagine the worst dive bar you've ever imagined, and you have a pretty good picture of Sissy K's. There was a five-dollar cover on a Saturday night. Now, usually a cover means your either getting cheap drink inside, a good scene, or good live music. Instead, patrons on the bottom floor are accosted by the sounds of a bad guitarist screeching cover songs into a microphone at a far too high volume. I would characterize the crowd as stereotypical college: state school frat boy types in "club wear" and urban street clothes, and girls in tacky and revealing outfits. The scene was rowdy and full of people looking for short-term companionship. Overall it was a very collegiate atmosphere. They also hold your ID for ransom if you open a tab, which is something I've never encountered before and just compounded the issues here. I could forgive all this however, if it were not for the place's worst offense. Decent beer costs six dollars each. For all that, they don't even serve proper pints, but rather pathetically small servings in dinky plastic cups. Now I can understand paying that much for something obscure, exotic, and with a high abv, but six dollars for two-thirds of a pint of Bass? Seriously? I'd suggest avoiding this establishment at all costs. read more

I have been disappointed by sissy ks. I have gone a few times for a night of dancing and drinks with friends. The dance floor can get quite cramped but the music and vibe is nice. The problem i had was with a waitress when i went in for dinner with coworkers. She kept disappearing and taking forever to come back with drinks. At one point she was too busy flirting with a guy then watching her tables. So she finally brought our food out and forgot my coworkers meal. Like forgot to put the order in. She had to sit there and watch us eat and her food came out when we were done eating. The burger was too rare and again we couldn't find the waitress so we brought it to the bartender to bring back to kitchen. Thr burger never came back out. We asked the waitress and she wa oblivious and came back to say the kitchen was now closed. We left to go somewhere else because my poor friend was starving. Awful experience so hire new staff!!!! read more
