4 stars for a good study spot. Very cute interior - cozy but tables aren't too crowded. Came on a warm Sunday afternoon and found that it was relatively empty, which is a refreshing find for a cafe in NYC. It's pretty quiet inside, as most people are on their Macbook Airs. There is elevator music playing in the background, which is great for concentrating. You can choose to sit at a table, in the patio, by the window, or near the bar. Baristas are chill. Wifi is excellent. They also have Vietnamese coffee! The major downside was was there was no working AC... only ceiling fans. I saw an AC but it wasn't on... maybe it wasn't working? Will def be a downside in the summer heat. Hopefully they get that fixed! read more

I really want to like Sit and Wonder when I saw that it was opening last Saturday. And so far, there is a lot to like. The decor is comfortable, the music cool and not too loud, there are lots of outlets for laptops, the service is friendly. I guess I just feel there should be more. For instance, there are not many cold drink choices, and the Iced Chai I got was a bit on the small size. They have some pastries, but no bagels, no sandwiches, nothing sustainable. I just wish that they gave me more reasons to come or stay. read more

Came here because my Portland native heart saw Stumptown coffee being advertised in the window. Spacious, quiet cafe with a lovely backyard seating area, although there was some nosy construction going on next door. Really - as good as it gets in New York, IMHO. I just moved back here from Seattle, where coffee places were among my favorite city features. New York just doesn't do this well, and I've tried many. What I like in a coffee place, and what Sit & Wonder has: - coffee flava (shouldn't be so hard to find in a coffee place, but often is) - pleasant physical space - ample seating, with different opportunities depending on mood (feel like staring moodily out the window? chatting in the backyard? working at a table?) - decent pastries, and maybe wraps/baguettes/other light food - music that is pleasant and interesting (more LCD Soundsystem than Sara Bareilles) (for those who want it) but not overpowering (for those who don't) - staff without major attitude, who remember that they're in a customer service business and who might want to encourage repeat visits That last one might make me sound whiny -- but, really, too many places just fail on that score. I was looking to get some work done earlier today, and stopped in at Prospect Perk Cafe on Flatbush for the first time in a year or two. Alas, completely average on each element listed above. I've been going here regularly since they opened. Clearly I'm not the only one who likes this place. It's been hard to find a seat lately if I don't get there early. (It clears out around noon, since they don't search much in the way of lunch food.) But they've been steadily adding seating, and in the last couple of days they significantly expanded their seating options. They've added a new bar rail at in the front window, with stools, and squeezed in several more tables the back. All without making it seem overly packed. Great work, guys. Prices went up slightly, but it's still cheap relative to the competition. read more

The decaf iced-coffee was probably one of the best I've ever had. That's why this place gets three stars. If you're wanting to actually sit down with your coffee and muffin, forget it, it's too packed. I came here in the morning (on a weekday) hoping to get some work done, but alas, it was a sea of MacBooks filled with people crammed in tightly sitting in front of tiny tables. I didn't think that part was so bad, so I sat on the couch. There were four outlets behind the one seater couch, but none on the walls where the tables are. I wondered how long it would take before people would have to start leaving due to their batteries dying. I did a quick looksie, and found that the other outlet strip is in the front, near the window, where it's crazy hot and no one would sit. The back was much cooler, but it was almost too cold at one point. I finally left after a few hours b/c of this incessant crying baby whose hipster parents didn't care their child was screaming its head off. The baby sounded like a dying cat... I've never heard anything like it before. Overall, cool coffee shop, but I think I came on the wrong day or something. read more

You brew delicious Stumptown coffee, and you don't charge eight bazillion bucks for it. Your staff is friendly, fun, and fond of colorful headgear. And you sell this brie and butter thing that I'm sure is a heart attack on a plate, but I can't mind because it makes the part of my brain that only functions on cheese really, really happy. I don't wanna follow the crowd, but alas the coffee here was awesome! Really really good. Stumptown plus an awesome barrista make a good combination! I grabbed a seat at the window, and watched people walk by, sipping on my shot. I know Washington Avenue cause I went to the Dr Who bar here last year called Way Station. There are a ton of restaurants here that I want to try, starting with the Thai place across the street. I'm getting hungry just thinking about it! After finishing my beverage and heading out to unlock the fixed gear, I head back onto Washington, working North West towards the east river. After Atlantic avenue, you enter Clinton Hill. Here you're just one block over from Pratt University. The neighborhood is always breathtaking to me, every time I'm here. It's even more incredible than brooklyn heights, which also makes your heart speed up a little bit. Suddenly gorgeous architecture is all around you, Boston's Back Bay, Beacon Hill, or Buffalo's downtown historic district has that same surprising allure. Some of these buildings were built almost a century ago, when beauty, architecture, and form were as prized as function. Another stop on the tour of cafes in my neighborhood. A friend of mine loves this spot, and as I approached, I could see that this would be a cool place. They brew Stumptown! I can see outlets! Their menu is cute! But...it smelled distinctly like what I can only describe as a veterinary office waiting room. That's okay, I like dogs. This is surely not a deal breaker. The lovely and charming barista was left alone with a line of 3-4 people while her cohort took a quick break, so I had time to take in how goshdarn cute the decor is. Frosted mirrors, knick-knacks, children's drawings, bistro furniture, low bookshelves, and a backyard patio. I ordered an almond milk latte. I did not like the latte. I found it alternately sour, bitter, and just off. Once again, I did not follow my instinct to get drip coffee, and once again I have myself to blame. I like almond milk but this did not work for me. I took a seat to do some work, and had a productive 20 minutes. I must have gotten accustomed to the vet smell, because suddenly, the odor changed to another kind of stinky. This particular odor was more like burnt compost. This also coincided with an influx of children pulling chairs around and zooming by on scooters. I simply had to leave. I am going to give it another shot, stick to the drip coffee, and take it to go. I would love to SIT AND WONDER in this shop, because it's so cute! but I am a bit too sensitive to odors to manage it. read more

Sit and Wonder has Dough Donuts. Every. Day. If that wasn't enough to entice you, they make a good Americano, very similar to Variety coffee in Greenpoint (they both use Stumptown coffee as well). There are a few other Brooklyn made items for sale (Mast Bros. Chocolate bars) as well as sandwiches and pastries which I have not tried. They also have a backyard garden for when the weather is warm. They're pretty strict about the "no outside food" policy, which I can understand, but sometimes a girl just wants to drink a coffee and eat her salad on her lunch break - which they will not let you do. read more

This is a no frills sort of coffee bar where the owners let the flavors speak for themselves. My go to drink is the iced latte and if it wasn't $4.25 I would have given this place 5 stars. This place has a nice ambience, especially when all you want to do is sit & wonder ;-) On the weekends it gets packed fairly quickly with the normal laptop people that just sit around, drink coffee and spend countless hours on their... You guessed it, laptops; which is rather annoying when all you want to do is sit and enjoy a nice cup of chai tea. During the warmer months there's a cute seating area out back which I enjoy since there's always shade. There's also a couch in the back, that if you wanted to, you can hold a small meeting, which I have but I course that's only if you get there before the Laptop People. read more

Was sitting and wondering why my review was no longer showing. Not sure maybe it was because "Tip and Wonder" was upset at the fact that my review was the hardcore realty that their customer service stinks. Rather than work on it they just had my comment removed because it doesn't show them in the greatest light but if u missed it here it is again it was written on May 1, 2013. "I really think they should change their name to "Tip And Wonder." Went there last week to get my regular coffee because my other spot was closed. I was put aside and told by an employee "hey I know you come here a lot o& u see that tip jar its there for a reason. You are supposed to tip me." I'LL keep this short simple and sweet Tips are given for good service not just because you work there. If your pay sucks don't take it out on the customers and try and get them to tip you. The workers at this place never smile, are never polite, but yet they feel the need to ask you to tip them. Here's a tip: work on your customer service "Tip and Wonder...as the employee said to me "not trying to sound mean or malicious and put u out there." I was the first person in the backyard this Spring. Yay! Coffee was yummy-- even without milk-- but I am glad they have soymilk on hand and without a stupid surcharge. I also enjoyed a cup of homemade passion fruit sorbet. Also, they may be getting vegan baked goodies stuff soon, so I will like the place even better. This has easily become one of my go to spots whenever I venture to Brooklyn. Not only is the atmosphere perfect, but they have mastered the art of chai. After hearing about their homemade almond milk, I had to find some way to incorporate it into a coffee drink. I asked if they could make a cortado with it, and they happily obliged, adding something like $.50 or $1 to the cost. Definitely a good choice on my part, with the milk adding a nutty smoothness to the drink, which was based off a well pulled shot of stumptown espresso. Not a good experience. Coffee with almond milk tasted terrible - they might have been using old milk or the coffee was really weak. More than anything the service was unusually rude for NYC. Main person at the register was spaced out and on her phone (left me waiting) when I went back to kindly request another drink. The barista was not happy that I requested another drink instead of being understanding of it. Still gross so I just threw it out and lost $6. Both of them were aloof and out of it, not a welcoming smile for miles - not what you expect to experience at 9am on a Monday morning. I would have stayed longer but the music was also very loud. First of all, why does it say it's located in DUMBO? weird Regardless, I wasn't familiar with Stumptown coffee until a couple years ago when I took a trip to Portland. Apparently, it's just "ok" coffee out there but i was really happy when I went into this new shop and realized they served it. There's been a lot of bad press about Stumptown but to me, coffee is coffee. If it tastes good , I'm going to drink it. As for the actual cafe, it's very cozy, has plenty of seating for the narrow space it's in. Most of the staff is friendly , the bathroom is always kept clean, and all their espresso drinks are double-shot (but they don't charge extra for it) . Their pastries are pretty decent as well. And you can't go wrong if you need a little sugar at 3pm when all the pastries are 50% off! read more

Nothing wrong with this shop. It's the only shop that has a wifi signal that my shitty old computer can pick up. Also they seem to embrace the wifi/computer crowd.... which is more than I can say for most coffee shops. Stumptown coffee is good yet no longer something that I go out of my way to get.
